Kim Cattrall vows never to have plastic surgery

Kim Cattrall has made one hell of a bold public statement, especially for a woman intent on dating younger men. She’s vowed that she won’t ever get plastic surgery, and won’t try to look like she’s twenty. I say right on… but ask me again in fifteen years and I might have a different response.

Kim Cattrall has vowed never to have plastic surgery – because she thinks she’d become unrecognisable.

At 51, the Sex And The City star insists she’s not bothered at losing her looks.

‘I had a great time in my youth and I still feel youthful. But I’ve no desire to look as though I’m in my 20s,’ Kim, who played Samantha in the hit US show, tells the Daily Express.

‘I don’t think I’d try plastic surgery. I’d be too frightened I’d end up not looking like myself. I don’t want to look in the mirror and see The Joker from Batman staring back at me!’

[From NOW Magazine]

Kim is 51, and whenever I see pictures of her I always think how old she looks for her age. It just hit me that that’s not the case at all – she looks great for 51. But we’re so used to seeing actresses donning faces pulled within an inch of their lives, and we get used to that look. It becomes the norm, and an expectation. Kim looks fabulous, and she still looks like herself.

Some friends of mine have a seven-year-old daughter who told me she thought all the women in the movies and on TV were related. We had a long discussion, and apparently she came to that conclusion because so many of them looked the same to her. I thought it was really cute at the time, and just assumed she couldn’t distinguish faces of people she didn’t know well. Totally age appropriate. But when I re-think it, she’s right. So many women get work done, and instead of trying to look like a better version of themselves, they try to all look like each other. And they all come out looking sort of related.

I say to each her own, but bravo to Kim for looking like herself.

Kim Cattrall nixed SATC tv plotline w/ 13 year-old giving fellatio advice

Kim Cattrall, 51, got the $6 million she held up the Sex and The City movie for and isn’t apologetic about negotiating for enough money to secure a comfortable designer-filled retirement. Now that the movie is out and is a big success, she’s not afraid to discuss a major blunder the script writers almost made during the HBO run that was narrowly averted by her outspoken objection. She says they wanted her sex-obsessed character, Samantha, to get fellatio advice from an underage girl who was just 13. Cattrall says the scene was cut after she refused to do it, and advises parents not to let their young daughters watch the television show or the movie due to the very adult themes:

Cattrall, who plays maneater Samantha Jones, insists the age restrictions are there for a reason - as the content in the film is too racy for youngsters.

She says, “This is not a show made for an eight-year-old, they don’t need to know about this stuff… I want to say to women, this is not for all women.

“It’s adult entertainment - it’s an R-rated film”.

And the actress admits that the only time she has vetoed a script was during the TV series, when writers created a storyline that involved her character taking tips on fellatio from a 13-year-old girl. She adds, “I thought, no, stop - this would never happen unless a woman was insane. And I think that’s the only time in the film and TV series that I said, I’m so sorry, but I can’t make that work.’ And they re-wrote it”.

[From Female First via Gossip Rocks]

Can you imagine if this plot would have gone through? It could potentially have derailed the entire television series with the well-deserved objections it would have raised. Maybe the writers were careless because they were writing so much racy material it didn’t occur to them that they were way out of line with that story. It’s a good thing they listened to Cattrall and didn’t use it.

I finally saw the Sex and The City movie last weekend, and can admit that I was fooled by a fake planted spoiler that I won’t discuss here in case there are some who are waiting to see it still. (If you’re a reader and have seen the film, you can easily figure out what I’m talking about.) There were parts where it dragged, and I didn’t like the way it ended and thought it was too label-whorish, but it was a great film overall and well worth seeing. Sarah Jessica Parker has said that there has been no talk about a sequel yet, and that it would “look greedy on our part” to discuss it. Maybe the series has run its course, but it will hopefully open the door for more movies featuring female characters in their late 30s and 40s.

Lauren Hutton says SATC movie was written by male sluts

The new Sex and the City movie is causing a lot of controversy, with people saying it is bad publicity for New York, and that the ladies are too airbrushed in the publicity stills. Lauren Hutton, 64-year-old actress and model, had her own opinion to add.

She said, “It’s written by guys, who happen to be gay, who are sluts. That’s what I think.

“Let’s face it most men are sluts. That’s what testosterone is supposed to do. As a hunter, if you stayed alive after 30, nature wanted your genes out there. Women were just trying to get the best sperm to make a masterpiece.

“You have a bunch a guys who are sluts, writing for women and telling them they are supposed to act like this.”

The Today Show via San Francisco Chronicle

I’m not even going to touch the ‘gay’ remark, or the fact that I don’t think every man on the planet is a slut, but I will point out that Sex and the City had several female writers as well as men, and was based on a book written by a woman. I’m also going to assume that she meant the sperm was going to be used to make a baby, not an actual piece of art.

I found Lauren’s comments interesting because they came on the same day as this article in the New York Daily News, talking about New York women and their number of sex partners.

Everyone has a “number.” But how many is too many and were the “Sex and the City” women oversexed?

Definitely - compared to the average American woman, who has nine sex partners in a lifetime, according to a survey by the Durex brand of condoms. But compared to the average New Yorker, they were right on target.

According to Karyn Bosnak, who researched the topic for her novel “20 Times a Lady” - about a New Yorker who vows to have sex with a maximum of 20 men - the typical New York City woman’s number is twice the national average.

“Women in other parts of the country tend to get married much younger. It’s not a big deal to be single in your 30s in New York,” says Bosnak, “There’s also the anonymity factor. You can date men from different social circles here. If you have 20 sex partners and you live in a small, rural town, that’s not good.

“I stopped counting at 56,” says Christine, 35, a locations director from Bayside who lives in SoHo. “There are so many opportunities to meet men here - bars, restaurants, clubs, walking down the street, the deli. Men are everywhere.”

New York Daily News

FYI, Samantha had 42 partners, Carrie and Charlotte had 18, and Miranda had 17.

I’m not sure why this movie is causing so much controversy, except perhaps that
it features middle-aged women who are being portrayed as sexy, when normally those roles are given to twenty-something actresses. Sarah Jessica Parker herself won’t say no to a sequel, saying that at 43 and with a family, “it’s been the real last year of my life professionally.”

Sarah Jessica Parker is shown outside the Today Show yesterday, 5/29/08. Lauren Hutton is shown at an opening at the Broad Contemporary Art Museum on 2/9/08. Thanks to WENN.

German premiere of Sex and The City

Sarah Jessica Parker looked a bit more refined and less Carrie-esque at the premiere of Sex and The City at Potsdamer Platz in Berlin. She wore a nude-colored strapless gown with subtle ribbon detail at the top that looks familiar. (If a fashion-minded reader can remind me who wore a similar dress, probably in a darker color, I would appreciate it.) Cynthia Nixon stunned with sleek hair and a flowing black v-neck gown. Kristin Davis was in a deep green 40s style dress with a full knee-length skirt and Kim Cattrall wore a orange colored number with an odd patchwork of fabric pieces that didn’t flatter her.

Berlin’s Morgenpost (article is in German) noted that the four actress spent more then an hour on the pink carpet, and each arrived ten minutes apart. They are staying in four suites on different floors at the best hotel in Berlin, The Hotel Adlon, and arrived yesterday in ten white limos.

Thanks to WENN for these photos.

“Sex and The City” London premiere

The stars of the Sex and The City movie were out for the London premiere tonight. People Magazine notes that the eye-catching contraption on Sarah Jessica Parker’s head is a Philip Treacy hat. Treacy is an Irish designer known for his hat sculptures. She is wearing an Alexander McQueen gown that’s a little too prom-looking, and what’s up with those shoes? The outfit might work with neutral shoes that draw the eyes up. She’s not going for subtlety.

I’m not really fond of any of the other dresses. Kim Catrall’s gown is a pretty cut, but the fabric is very thick and I don’t like the way it flares at the bottom. Cynthia Nixon’s gown is lovely but too low cut and Kristin Davis’ dress is a little matronly, but is probably my favorite.

The Sex and The City movie will be out in the US on May 30th.

Kim Cattrall will be appearing nude in the new SATC film

Kim Cattrall is going to appear nude in the upcoming Sex and the City feature film – Sarah Jessica Parker has a ‘no nudity’ clause in her contract, and Kristen Davis refused, so it will be interesting to see just how much sex and nudity will appear. It was a pretty controversial thing for prime time television show to feature, and a big part of the success of the series.

Kim Cattrall, who has written two books about sex where she posed nude on the cover, will be featured in all her 51-year-old glory, and her mother Shane is proud.

She (Shane) says, “Kim is a role model for 50-something women. Much has been made about her nudity in the film, but I think she looks fabulous.”

And proud mum Shane, 79, insists people who criticise Cattrall’s on-screen antics are just jealous of her well-preserved body.

She adds, “Anyone who knocks that is jealous. All this fuss about a bit of nudity is ridiculous.”

Contact Music

I am really looking forward to this film. Like the original series, I think it is going to push boundaries. It isn’t often that older women get shown sexually, and rarely are they shown nude. Probably because even the most confident of us doesn’t want the world to judge their body, even when it is appropriately lighted and digitally enhanced.

The Sex and the City movie will also be premiering in London two days before the ‘official’ world premiere in New York, and the four leading ladies will be asking the audience to please not give the plot away. Like the trailer hasn’t already.

Kim Cattrall is shown in the header at Point Foundation Honors the Arts on 4/7/08, thanks to WENN.

Chris Noth isn’t a fan of Victoria’s Secret, SJP makes light of Kim Cattrall conflict

Before you spend a lot of money on Victoria’s Secret Lingerie to impress a special man, just make sure you think it is going to work for him. Chris Noth reminds us that not all men are turned on by frilly underthings:

He tells WENN, “I’m not into Victoria’s Secret so much. I find it over the top. I like subtlety and I like elegance. I think their things are gaudy and they are really trying too hard. If I could make a fashion statement, I think that Victoria’s Secret looks to me like somebody who is putting on too much make-up. It’s too gaudy, man.

“I mean, come on take it easy, you don’t have to have a f**kin’ bouquet of flowers on your underwear. Sorry Victoria’s Secret; I hope they’re not one of our sponsors!”

StarPulse

Maybe he likes lingerie, but the elegant kind that doesn’t have girly prints or too much lace.

Sarah Jessica Parker is also talking down Kim Cattrall’s comments that she did, absolutely, hold out for more money before she would commit to the film.

Even as they were filming those last scenes in Paris, Parker and her collaborator, writer-director Michael Patrick King, were kicking around a movie concept. King’s original pitch sounds like a palate cleanser intended to follow the hype surrounding the series finale—it was a light, summery, Bob Hope–style road movie, with the girls following separate paths. “Then the deals weren’t happening,” King tells me. “And the money people didn’t believe in it.”

Parker’s co-star Kim Cattrall reportedly scuttled the project, wanting more money and creative control. “If I had thought it was any of my business at the time,” Parker tells me carefully, “what I would have said is, ‘Isn’t it okay for Kim to think that the money wasn’t right?’” (She also drily notes, “Perhaps she was some kind of emotional psychic, because this way we made a better movie.”)

New York Magazine

I’m glad that it has worked out for the best, and since Kim’s stand for more money held off production on the movie, it kind of proves that she was worth it. The movie could not be made without her, so the four main characters should have had very similar salaries. At this point, it seems that Kim was paid $6million, Sarah Jessica Parker made $10million (with an extra $5million for producing the film) and Cynthia Nixon and Kriten Davis were each paid $2million.

Chris Noth is shown kissing Sarah Jessica Parker in a scene from the Sex and The City Movie, filmed on 9/19/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

The Sex and The City women talk to Oprah about their lives & loves

The Sex and The City stars were on Oprah yesterday in front of an audience that had screened the film the day before. There was a lot of screaming and enthusiasm for the cast and Oprah raved about how great the movie is. It’s out in the US on May 30. The studio audience had seen most of the film but were not allowed to see the end because they didn’t want all of the plot to get out. The women answered questions about their lives and their work and Mr. Big Chris Noth even came on and talked about his new baby son. Oprah didn’t ask them the standard question about whether they fought at all, and Kristin Davis wasn’t asked about her nude photos that were leaked earlier this year.

On fans surrounding them as they filmed in NY City, and the “dream sequence” story
Kim Cattrall: “I felt like a Beatle”
SJP: “You can’t be anything other than thrilled that people still care.”
Kristin Davis: “There were people writing down the dialog.”
SJP: “We kept going around saying ‘This is some crazy dream sequence we’re filming.’ We kept repeating this mantra to try and gaslight people a little.”
Oprah: “When you showed up in a wedding gown…”
SJP: “That crazy dream sequence”

Cynthia Nixon on her breast cancer scare and same sex partner
Cynthia Nixon talked about discovering breast cancer, and said “I did not cry.”

She talked in a matter of fact way about how she did radiation and had a lumpectomy and a lymph node taken out.

As for how Nixon fell in love with a woman and told her friends, she said “Kristin knew about it first” and Davis said “I know her. I know Christine,” and Nixon said “and then I think other people were left to fend for themselves when it all erupted and these ladies did great and so did Mr. Noth who I know is coming out later [crowd screams]

They were great the things they said to the press.”

SJP: “I think we all know Cynthia so well. She’s such a capable smart thinking person and our greatest concern was that Cynthia be happy… her happiness is everything.”

Oprah: “I heard you just sort of met Christine, fell in love and it didn’t matter to you whether she was male or female or what… how does that work?”

Nixon: “You haven’t met my girlfriend, she’s fantastic.” [others agree]

Davis: “What is love? I think that’s the important thing. There’s something real and intangible and solid about it, and that’s how I feel when I’m around them. It’s just undeniable.”

Kim Cattrall on her younger chef boyfriend
Oprah - to Kim Cattrall: “I hear you’re with a younger guy now.”

Catrall laughs. Oprah: “Did you have a limit to how young? Or is love is love.”

Cattrall: “As long as he has his driver’s license.

“He is 23 years younger than me and I wondered ‘what could we possibly talk about?’ but we talk about a lot of things, and he’s a professional chef, so it’s not just good in some areas of the house it’s good in all areas of the house. And he’s very sophisticated, he’s very zen.”

Oprah asked if it was true that they like cooking in the nude together. Kim said that wasn’t true.

Kristin Davis on feeling great in her 40s
Kristin Davis said she wasn’t happy in her 20s and didn’t know who she was. SJP said the 20s are about exploration.

Davis said that when she hit 40 the show ended and she wondered what she would do at that point, and she said it made her realize that she wanted to take more pleasure in small things in life. She said “Oh life is so fantastic, but it’s so charged up… you want to be able to feel like you’re connected to the earth.”

Davis said she was tired after all the frenzy at the end of the show, and Kim Cattrall said she went into a funk when the show ended. Cynthia Nixon said she was in love so she didn’t get depressed at that point.

Chris Noth says his girlfriend was told that she would miscarry their baby
Chris Noth came on to a lot of screaming. Oprah first asked if he gained insight about women from working on the show and he answered “Never interrupt makeup sessions.”

Noth said coming back for the movie was a no-brainer and that it’s the best job in the world.

As for how much he’s like Big, he says “He’s a lot more self edited than me.”

Davis said “Chris is very very male… like a Alpha male thing.”

They were joking about how Chris was doing Law and Order at the same time and how he had to do prison scenes and how much of a contrast it was to Sex and The City.

They showed pictures of Chris with his baby son Orion, who is three and a half months old. He explained that the constellation Orion was the first one he would see in the sky when he was in college. He introduced his girlfriend Tara in the audience, and said “I’m so lucky.”

Noth told a heart wrenching story about how doctors told Tara after she first found out she was pregnant that they couldn’t find a heartbeat and that she would have a miscarriage. He said she talked to the baby all night and that the next day a heartbeat was found. He called Orion a fighter.

SJP talked about her five and a half year old son and said he asks a million questions. She said it helps her realize how much you know and how little you know.

They showed the amazing shoes, dresses and purses used for the costumes and all the women said that it was a lot of fun getting dressed for the show. SJP had 81 outfit changes.

They had the director Michael Patrick King on via Skype and he joked that he’s “cutting out all the imaginary dream sequences.”

The dream sequence explanation sounds like a ruse
From the comments that SJP gave you can kind of tell that the dream sequence story was one they made up on the spot to try and keep the paparazzi and fans from guessing plot points after scenes were photographed in NY. But given all the well-deserved hype surrounding this film, I think it’s safe to say that whatever details were leaked won’t deter people from seeing it.

Here are links to the videos of the show, including clips from the Sex and The City movie. There are commercials but you can easily skip them.

Kim Cattrall admits she held out for more money for Sex and The City movie

Kim Cattrall has a new interview in The Advocate Magazine in which she talks frankly about her feelings about children, her relationship with her Sex and the City costars, and the fact that she was the lone holdout for the film and negotiated for a better salary.

On children giving her a headache
“I enjoy kids but not for long periods. I think they’re adorable and funny and sweet, and then I have a headache.”

On not wanting to see Sex and The City co-stars socially
“Do you get along with your colleagues all the time? If you’re spending 18 hours a day [at work], the last thing you want to do is go and have a drink with the people who you just — you just need to get away.”

On holding out for more money for the film, because she has to take care of herself
“I never expected to be paid what Sarah was being paid. Sarah’s a producer. But I felt that the offer was not worthy of what the three of us had contributed, and I spoke up about it. You know, my dad was a big union guy. He felt that the workers should get a part of it.”

“I’m a woman in my 50s. I’m not living with some multimillionaire. I’m it. Negotiation is about getting more money, and I think, Would they have a problem with this if I were a man? You look at James Gandolfini. He stood up and said, ‘Hey, I’m worth it.’  It’s like, ‘Oh, don’t make any waves. Just be a good girl and take it.’ And you know, I’m happy with my deal, ultimately. I feel like I stuck my neck out. I fought. I don’t ever want to be on a set where I feel undervalued.”

[All quotes from the Advocate from Insidesocal.com via Gossip Rocks]

Cattrall is rumored to have received $6 million for the Sex and The City film while her costars Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are getting $2 million each. Producer Sarah Jessica Parker is earning $10 million for playing Carrie Bradshaw and another $5 million for producing the film.

I admire Cattrall’s candor. She sure doesn’t skirt around issues and just tells it like it is. She also managed to secure three times the amount her arguably equal costars, Davis and Nixon, are receiving for their roles. And she basically said it’s not like she wants to hang out with them after she’s on set working with them all day, either.

Kim Cattrall and her Sex and The City costars are shown at Point Foundation Honors the Arts on 4/7/08, thanks to WENN.

Kim Cattrall criticized for looking normal

The Daily Mail is running their typical flaw-finding piece on these photos of 51 year-old Kim Cattrall filming a beach scene for the Sex and the City movie. She looks pretty good, but they’re obligated to point out her “skin condition.” They call the article “Cellulite and the City”:

The actress’ massive bikini bottoms failed to hide the dimpled truth, as her cellulite was plainly on show while she filmed scenes on the Malibu beach.

As the blonde star strode along the beach, gold stilettos in hand, despite retaining a still enviable figure, her thighs showed the tell-tale signs of the dreaded skin condition which defeats many women.

[From The Daily Mail]

How ridiculous to say cellulite “defeats” many women, as if we’re unable to get out of bed because our asses aren’t smooth like the airbrushed 19 year-olds in magazines. Maybe they could say “afflicts,” but that sounds like a disease. How about “affects,” but it’s not like it’s affecting our ability to care for our children, do our jobs (unless we’re models or movie stars) or even to don a swimsuit. This shit is getting out of hand.

Meanwhile one of the prettiest young television actresses, Jennifer Love Hewitt, answered some questions on the red carpet of 27 Dresses about her bikini controversy. She said “It made me feel a little embarrassed to be honest. It made me a little sad. It hurt my feelings.. And I think we should let people be!”

Many people were saying that Love Hewitt claimed to be a size 2 after she was criticized for her regular sized body, but she never said that. She was simply talking about the issue of body image and when her words are read in context you can tell that she’s just criticizing the unrealistic standards that are set on women.
