Two weeks ago, Al and Tipper Gore announced their split, after forty years of marriage. Almost immediately, people began speculating that one or both of them had cheated. Last week, the Enquirer even ran a story speculating about Al’s women throughout the years. Something about a cheerleader, maybe a massage therapist gave him a hand job, etc. Anyway, Star Magazine has a new story about Al and someone new… Laurie David. Laurie is the 52-year-old ex-wife of Larry David (Curb Your Enthusiasm), and they were married for 14 years before splitting in 2007. Laurie is also big into the environmental causes, and she’s a power-player in her own right – she produced An Inconvenient Truth. Here’s more:

Al Gore’s split from wife Tipper after 40 years of marriage was a shock to everyone who thought theirs was the ideal marriage. Now Star can exclusively reveal that the former Vice President was having an affair with Larry David’s ex-wife — for the past two years!

In the June 28 issue of Star, on sale Wednesday, we report that Al and Tipper’s breakup didn’t come as much of a surprise to one Hollywood player — Laurie David. Star has learned that Al has been having an affair with Laurie, who divorced Seinfeld creator and Curb Your Enthusiasm star Larry David in 2007 amidst reports she was cheating with the caretaker of their Martha’s Vineyard summer home.

“Al and Laurie went from friends to lovers,” an insider tells Star. “It couldn’t be avoided.”

I hate to say it, but I think this is totally possible, and I’m kind of impressed that Al chose a mistress who A) is age appropriate B) has very similar interests and C) has her own power, her own life, her friendships and business relationships. Sure, I’m disappointed in Al for cheating (if that’s what happened), but I’m also happy this wasn’t a gross Tiger Woods situation, where some hooker is going to run to Gloria Allred. “AL IS MY BABY-DADDY!” So, thanks for that, Al. Now zip it.

UPDATE: So Laurie David and her rep are running around denying this sh-t to every media outlet. The rep tells Us Weekly, “This is completely and totally untrue.” And Laurie told HuffPo: “It’s a total fabrication. I adore both Al and Tipper. I look at them both as family. And I have happily been in a serious relationship since my divorce.” Eh. Eco-homewrecker.
