Pete Doherty to spend 14 weeks behind bars

spx-015590.jpg

After approximately 1,283,374,934 arrests, trips to court, and overnight stints in jail, it appears the law may finally have caught up to Pete Doherty. Pete’s been ordered to serve 14 weeks in jail for a variety of offenses, most notably for violating his probation on a plethora of previous drug charges. This is pretty remarkable given that Doherty has somehow managed to evade pretty much every reasonable form of punishment and rehabilitation for years of drug offenses.

Troubled Babyshambles frontman Pete Doherty was finally sent to jail today for breaking his probation order. He was taken from West London Magistrates’ Court and locked up for 14 weeks following a 30 minute hearing this afternoon. Doherty was jailed for ‘his breach of time keeping, non compliance of his order and using different drugs’, a spokesperson from the court confirmed.

Back in October, Judge Davinder Lachar cleared Doherty from the remainder of a drug control order but handed him his suspended jail sentence for drug and motoring offences. The 29-year-old was given a four-month custodial sentence, suspended for two years. On that occasion he handed an 18-month supervision order and a 12-month drug rehabilitation order. Lachar ordered he pay a £400 fine for an driving without insurance and a £75 fine for having no MOT certificate [similar to an emissions inspection in the US].

[From Metro]

Clearly getting clean is not a really big priority for Pete Doherty. And I wish I could say that 14 weeks in jail would probably change that, but let’s be realistic. Really, the only thing that will come of this is that the world will see you can only be arrested on various drug charges for six or seven years before you will spend several weeks in jail. So really, it will serve as quite the public deterrent. Actually what should serve as quite the public deterrent is any photo of Pete Doherty. That’s a hell of a lot scarier than jail time.

Here’s Pete and his sexiness at the Thames Magistrates Court in London on November 10, 2007. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Turner apologizes to Cage over Chihuahua stealing accusations

cagesues.jpg

It seems Kathleen Turner has finally smartened up a bit. Turner infamously accused actor Nicolas Cage of some crazy stuff back in the day – everything from saying he was arrested twice for DUIs to stealing a Chihuahua. Most of this was mentioned in the context of their working relationship while filming “Peggy Sue Got Married” in 1986. Imagine if one of your old coworkers from twenty years ago publicly accused you of stealing tiny purse dogs. It’d be hard to know how to react. Cage filed a libel lawsuit against Turner in the UK, and today she and her publisher apologized to the actor.

Cage’s UK solicitor Simon Smith said the Oscar-winning actor was “extremely pleased” with the outcome of the case “since he has never been arrested for drink driving, dog theft or anything else. As an actor who stars in many family-friendly films and who has a young child and teenager of his own, Mr Cage was understandably upset at having been wrongly depicted as condoning that sort of reckless, dangerous and criminal behaviour.” The actor, he continued, was “gratified that the defendants have done the right thing by acknowledging their errors and making amends”.

The actress, UK publisher Headline and Associated Newspapers, which extracted the book in the Daily Mail, have also made a substantial donation to charity. The donation will be made to the National Adult Protective Services Foundation, a US charity which benefits vulnerable adults. The Daily Mail has agreed to publish an apology and remove the article from its website. Headline [UK publisher] has also agreed to insert a correction and apology into copies of Turner’s book.

[From the BBC]

So we know that Kathleen Turner has officially apologized to Nicolas Cage in the UK, as have her UK publishers. I wonder if Cage will seek similar amends here, or if Turner’s general apology is enough. I’m still shocked that Turner’s publishers agreed to let her write that. Obviously they got a lot of press for it and increased sales, but I can’t imagine that would outweigh the cost of potential litigation. On the one hand, I can’t imagine a relatively sane adult thinking it’s a good idea to just make up random stories. On the other… why in the world would Nicolas Cage steal a Chihuahua? Turner has struggled with some drinking issues of her own; perhaps her memory of the time is a bit shaky. No matter what, it’s good that Cage has cleared his name, though I’m not sure many people gave the accusations much credence.

Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend can’t balance his checkbook

annehathawayboyfriend.jpg
Anne Hathaway’s boyfriend, Italian businessman Raffaelo Follieri, is in hot water over a bad financial deal again. It seems Follieri, who is quickly becoming the new Stephen Belafonte, wrote a $250,000 check to a PR agency- and it bounced. Shad-y.

Anne Hathaway’s Italian stallion was just arrested by NYPD for allegedly bouncing a real big check his ass couldn’t cover. Follieri went willingly with police officers — no handcuffs — to work out the check fiasco. His lawyers, we hear, are sorting it out and he is now out of police custody.

Police tell us Zac Braff-alike Raffaelo Follieri was popped for one misdemeanor count of issuing a bad check — he’s still in police custody, being booked. A source tells TMZ that the check was written for around $250,000, and when the bank said insufficient funds, it wasn’t even close. Apparently, the devil wears knock-offs!

That’s hardly the end of the bad news for Follieri. A DC court just ordered him to pay almost $250,000 to a PR firm that he still owes for work they did.

[From TMZ]

If you recall, Follieri, who is quietly disliked in Hollywood for apparently living off his A-list girlfriend, was sued last May by a supermarket mogul for mishandling $55 million of his money, and was accused of mismanaging funds from a charity foundation he set up with Hathaway. Anne, honey, take my advice and run far, far away from this clown before you end up Amy Winehouse to his Blake. The dude’s bad news.

Anne Hathaway and Raffaelo Follieri are shown outside the Waverly Inn on 3/9/08, thanks to WENN.

Naomi Campbell assaults police officer; arrested at Heathrow

naomihitme.jpg

It looks like all those anger management classes, community service, and postponed jail time didn’t do a whole lot of good in curbing Naomi Campbell’s crazy temper. Back in the day, it was mere assistants that had to fear the model’s wrath. Heaven forbid a pair of jeans goes missing, you should expect a Blackberry upside the head in two seconds flat. But it seemed like the general population was probably safe. Turns out, that’s not the case, as Miss Campbell was arrested today after she was taken off a British Airlines flight to Los Angeles. It seems the fashion maven had not one, not two, but three carry-on bags, and one went missing. She threw an absolute shit fit and was removed from the flight. But of course things didn’t end there, as Campbell continued ranting and raving in the British Airlines first class lounge. Police were called, and a fracas ensued. Campbell was arrested for assaulting a police officer, supposedly by spitting on him. What class.

TMZ has learned Naomi Campbell has been arrested at Heathrow Airport after she allegedly assaulted a police officer. Why? Bitch lost her bag!!

Campbell was pulled off a British Airlines flight to L.A. this morning after reportedly causing a huge stink when she says one of her — count ‘em — three carry-on bags was missing. The Sun says after she was yanked off the plane, cops had to be called because the supermodel was told she was unfit to fly. The anger management class superstar was hauled away “ranting and raving” from BA’s first class lounge after allegedly assaulting an officer. Where’s an assistant when you need one?!

Witnesses say they heard the model scream “get off me, leave me alone” as she was taken to the Heathrow police station. Hide your Blackberries!

[From TMZ]

Sky News reported that Campbell spit on a police officer. She is one of those people that you actually want bad things to happen to. I often sit at my desk, dreaming of small, petty problems that could befall Naomi Campbell and cause her to completely snap. Who assaults a police officer over a lost bag? Who beats an assistant over jeans? Let’s be real, how many pairs of jeans do we really think Naomi Campbell actually owns? Not that it’s any big surprise, but clearly anger management doesn’t do much for those that really need it. There are just some people who walk through life with a feeling of entitlement, and they rage at any and everyone when the rest of us don’t understand just how much better they are. Really, I’m sure Naomi will explain that it was the airline’s fault, the cop’s fault… pretty much everyone’s fault but her own. Let’s wait for a perfectly written statement of remorse from her publicist tomorrow.

Here’s some old shots from a photo shoot of Naomi looking all sorry for herself.

Eliot Spitzer’s new hooker

nypost-spitzer.jpg

Former New York governor Eliot Spitzer’s life just gets more and more complicated. Which is what happens when you pay women to take your pants off, isn’t it? Spitzer has now been named as a client by a famous madam, Kristin Davis (not to be confused with the Kristin Davis of Sex and the City fame) who was arrested yesterday after her high-priced call girl ring, Wicked Models, was taken down by New York City vice cops. According to evidence obtained over the yearlong investigation into Wicked Models, Spitzer was a frequent client of Wicked Models, and Davis personally serviced him several time before 2004 when she was working as a call girl.

At the center of the new ring is Kristin “Billie” Davis, a busty bottle blonde who hails from a ough-and-tumble California trailer park. She has a reputation for hard-partying, shameless self-promotion and a rumored 10,000-name-long client list. Davis’ alleged multimillion-dollar empire was smashed by city vice cops as she made plans to skip town. Prosecutors say she netted some $2 million last year by pimping out ladies of the night for as much as $1,000 an hour through four Web sites.

A source said Davis personally serviced Spitzer. “She personally interfaced with Spitzer a number of times” since 2003 before she became a madam, a source close to Davis said. When asked about the allegation, Davis told The Post, “I can’t talk about it.” Spitzer’s spokeswoman, Anna Cordasco, countered that “Mr. Spitzer was not ever a client of Ms. Davis.”

Nor was there word on whether Spitzer wore his socks during his alleged escort encounters. Last week, it was revealed Republican dirty-tricks operative Roger Stone told the FBI that Spitzer kept his socks on during sex with a Florida prostitute.

[From the New York Post]

Boy Eliot Spitzer sure got around. This may sound naive, but I can’t believe his public imagine remained so impeccably untarnished for so long, considering his prostitution proclivities. Kristin Davis is even cheaper looking than Ashley Alexandra Dupre, Spitzer’s original high class call girl. In fact looking at Davis, I’m not sure what makes her appear high class… other than the amount she charges. New York State isn’t having a great deal of luck with our new governor either – who’s admitted to multiple extra-marital affairs and drug use. I’m not sure what makes public officials think they can get away with something like this. Yeah they have a lot of power – but people just aren’t good secret keepers. And the more women you pay to sleep with you, the more know your secret.

Richie Sambora gets a DUI - with daughter & her friend in car

rs-blog.jpg

Though he went to rehab twice last year, in July and September, sobriety is apparently still an elusive concept for Richie Sambora. The Bon Jovi guitarist was arrested late last night and cited for driving under the influence in Laguna Beach. Police also confirmed that he had a female passenger in the car with him, who TMZ is reporting was his 10-year-old daughter Ava. Ava’s mother is Sambora’s ex-wife Heather Locklear.

Laguna Beach Police Sgt. Jason Kravetz confirmed to E! News that officers first spotted the 47-year-old’s black Hummer driving erratically on the Pacific Coast Highway at roughly 10:52 p.m. Tuesday. Officers briefly followed his swerving vehicle before pulling him over.

The Lost Highway rocker was administered several field sobriety tests, all of which he failed, and was taken into custody just after 11 p.m.

Once at the nearby police station, the rocker, whom cops described as being “very cooperative,” opted to take a blood test in lieu of a Breathalyzer. His blood-alcohol level has yet to be released, though police say there was no indication of drugs in his system.

Sambora was booked, briefly housed and released from the station just after 4 a.m. Wednesday morning on his own recognizance.

[From E! News]

My mind will never cease to be boggled by the sheer amount of celebrities who cannot seem to afford to call a cab or a car service. I’d be interested to find out if the percentage of DUIs is higher for famous people, or if it just seems that way because they get attention for it. Driving drunk is absolutely inexcusable, driving drunk with your 10-year-old in the car is beyond my comprehension. And I have to say that – while it’s never a good idea to piss off your ex – it’s an extra bad idea to do that when your ex is Heather Locklear. I obviously don’t know the woman, but she just has that, “Mess with me and I’ll grind your balls into the cement,” expression on her face all the time. I can only imagine what would happen if you messed with her kid.

Seriously, the celebrity DUI thing is so played out that I can’t even summon righteous indignation anymore. It’s really sad that this has become so commonplace that it just merits a shoulder shrug.

Here’s Richie Sambora with ex-wife Heather Locklear and daughter Ava at the “Perfect Man” premiere in June of 2005. Images thanks to PR Photos.

Update by Celebitchy: US Weekly reports that three other females were in the car, two of them juveniles, according to police. That probably means that one of Ava’s friends was n the car, along with another adult passenger. TMZ notes that Sambora could be charged with child endangerment.

Pedophile child star managers: An update

louperlman.jpg
Two creepy child star managers are having their day in court this week. First up, Lou Pearlman, the scumbag Miami businessman who managed both N’Sync and the Backstreet Boys. Pearlman was arrested last year in a federal bank fraud case, and changed his plea on those charges to guilty yesterday.

lou-perlman.jpgLou Pearlman, best known for his work with boy bands like the Backstreet Boys and ‘N Sync, struck a plea deal in his federal bank fraud case and will work with prosecutors to help recover millions of dollars he is accused of stealing.

Pearlman allegedly defrauded banks out of more than $100 million and stole another $300 mil from investors. Psssh — chump change!

He entered a not guilty plea last year, but will change his plea to guilty in a hearing scheduled for Thursday. As for jail time, that’s for a judge to decide.

[From TMZ]

While Pearlman was incarcerated, rumors began circulating that the boy band manager had a nasty habit of putting the moves on his young male singers. Page Six reported last year that Pearlman’s favorite victim was Backstreet Boys’ Nick Carter.

Phoenix Stone, an early member of the Backstreet Boys, tells Vanity Fair Pearlman was “definitely inappropriate” with Nick Carter. Nick’s mom, Jane Carter, wouldn’t get into specifics, but said, “Certain things happened and it almost destroyed our family. I tried to warn everyone. I tried to warn all the mothers . . . I tried to expose him for what he was years ago.”

[From Page Six]

That’s just awful. No word yet on whether any of these rumors will ever translate into criminal charges.

One case that has indeed become a matter of the court is the recent conviction of Josh Werkman, manager of Dylan and Cole Sprouse, stars of the Disney Channel’s hit show, “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.” Werkman pled guilty to one count of molestation as well as the sale of alcoholic beverages to a minor. While the Sprouse twins were not involved in the case, it should be pointed out that the child who was molested by Werkman was a 16-year-old boy. Shudder.

werkman.jpgChild star manager Josh Werkman has pleaded no contest to misdemeanor child molestation and misdemeanor sale of alcoholic beverage to a minor.

Werkman entered his plea in on Friday in Ventura County Superior Court. He will be sentenced on April 2.

Werkman manages Cole and Dylan Sprouse, the twin stars of the Disney Channel’s “The Suite Life of Zack and Cody.” The twins were NOT involved in the case.

Werkman is also CEO of Merimark Entertainment and served as producer on the Sprouse twins’ two most recent movies.

Calls to Merimark for comment were not immediately returned. Reps for the Disney Channel had no comment.

Law enforcement tells us Werkman was initially arrested for felony sexual battery by restraint. Sources tell TMZ the alleged victim is a 16-year-old male.

Werkman’s lawyer, Steve Cron, says “Josh admitted he annoyed an individual who is a minor and provided that person with alcohol on the day in question. He acknowledged that he used bad judgment on that occasion and that is why he pleaded no contest to the two charges.”

UPDATE: TMZ spoke with the prosecutor in the case, Rameen Minoui, who tells us that Werkman must register as a sex offender, and could face up to one year in jail.

[From TMZ]

“Bad judgment”??? That’s the new way to explain molesting a child? You’ve got to be kidding me.

These stories are not only despicable, they should serve as a cautionary tale for parents thinking of getting their kids into show business: there are a lot of sick people in Hollywood and they’ll take advantage of anyone if there’s money to be gained– even a child.

Boy George pleads not guilty to false imprisonment

spx-015924.jpg
Once upon a time, Culture Club lead singer Boy George was an openly gay icon in an era where famous people lived double lives, because coming out of the closet would ruin their careers (cough George Michael cough). These days, Boy George, aka George O’Dowd, is more well known as a drug addict who likes to order male prostitutes from the Internet, chain them to a wall and refuse to let them leave. Not exactly helping the gay rights movement there, Georgie boy.

George pled not guilty to false imprisonment charges in a London courtroom today, claiming that the young prostitute, Auden Carlsen, was free to leave his apartment at any time.

Boy George has pleaded not guilty to falsely imprisoning a male escort by chaining him to a wall.

The singer and DJ, whose real name is George O’Dowd, is also accused of assaulting Audun Carlsen during the alleged incident on 28 April last year.

Prosecutors claim the 46-year-old former Culture Club frontman chained Mr Carlsen up at his home in Ravey Street, Hackney, east London.

He was released on bail until a trial at Snaresbrook Crown Court in November.

[From BBC News via DListed]<

No word yet on how George and his attorney will attempt to explain away the whole “chained to the wall” thing.

After Culture Club broke up in the 80s, George became addicted to heroin and nearly died. In 2002, he attempted to revive his career by appearing in a musical on London’s West End called “Taboo.” The show ran for two years and was a success in the UK, but a Broadway version produced by Rosie O’Donnell didn’t fare as well. The US “Taboo” received abysmal reviews and closed after 100 shows. George now works as a DJ, and toured throughout the world last year. At least he has some money coming in to feed his need for sadistic sex acts with male prostitutes.

Boy George is shown outside of court on 11/22/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

Neverland Ranch is to be sold at auction March 19

Michael Jackson’s Neverland Ranch is up for auction – by the trustees, not the pop star himself, and will include everything in the house and on the grounds:

Jackson received word Monday from Financial Title Company, the trustee, that unless he pays off $24,525,906.61 by that date, a public auction will go forward in Santa Barbara, Calif., in front of the county courthouse.

It’s not just the house either. When Neverland is auctioned, it will include everything: all personal property inside, all fixtures and appliances, furniture, and “all merry go round type devices,” any rides, games. The auction literally includes every single thing that is or isn’t nailed down.

Fox News

Michael hasn’t lived there since 2005, when he moved to Bahrain following his last child molestation trail. While the Ranch does have a zoo, all of the animals are gone, and some of the rides are shut down too. No one lives there currently.

Michael Jackson has been in financial trouble for quite some time, as a result of some bad business decisions and large loans he has been unable to pay. Several years of legal action, from his child molestation cases, his Neverland employees, and business associates, have also drained his finances. MJ just released a new edition of his best selling album, titled Thriller 25, maybe a check will clear from his royalties and he’ll be able to buy his house back, but it’s doubtful.

Fox News suggests that if the property is not sold at auction in March, it will be listed with a real estate agent and marketed as a private corporate retreat. There is also a possibility that a very rich person might be interested in purchasing what could be quite a bargain in the fire sale.

I can imagine a very wealthy parent who likes to spoil their children might buy this for their family. The property, according to Wiki, is 11km2, and has a zoo and a theme park, with a Ferris wheel, merry-go-round, zipper, spider, sea dragon, wave swinger, super slide, dragon wagon kiddie roller coaster and bumper cars.

I don’t know why people think Jacko is crazy for having the property – doesn’t it sound like fun? Unfortunately the ranch has somehow just become another sign of his wackiness, and evidence that he is a child molester. I’ve always thought it was such a shame that Michael Jackson has become best known for his marriage to Lisa Marie Presley, court appearances and plastic surgery instead of his music. Regardless of your opinion of his personal life, he is incredibly talented.

Bai Ling says she shoplifted because of a bad breakup

Bai Ling is one of the few people I hate more than Paris Hilton. In fact if you tossed Paris, Britney, and Lindsay into a sack, threw that sack in an industrial sized blender, and then baked whatever came out of that blender in the oven, you would have Bai Ling. I have no idea what this woman claims to do for a living – I know there’s some vague thought that she’s an actress, but for the life of me I can’t remember seeing her in anything. What she seems to do for a living is show up to every event on either coast dressed in the most asinine, ridiculous, slutty outfit known to man, and then warble some incoherent gibberish. Bai got arrested the other day for shoplifting two magazines and two packs of AAA batteries from one of those crappy travel stores at LAX before her Southwest flight. Her explanation? Bad breakup. Honey, if the rest of us thought that was a legitimate excuse to commit crimes, 50% of the world would be grabbing fistfuls of Skittles from grocery stores twice a year.

She was dealing with the “huge problem of breaking up [before] Valentine’s Day” when she was arrested for shoplifting, Ling said, adding, simply, “Wrong boyfriend.”

Damon Elliott, a close pal of Ling’s, says she was definitely not herself yesterday. “She was kind of in a mentally unstable state of mind yesterday,” he tells E! News. “She had some relationship issues going on. She wasn’t in the right frame of mind.”

Ling added several prosaic postings to her personal blog later in the afternoon—none mentioned her arrest but all could theoretically be attributed to someone who’s nursing a broken heart. An entry posted at 4:43 p.m.: “Delayed the flight, [wandering] again in the airport like a ghost, why can’t I just be the sun smile?” it read. “Life is a sad song sometime but still sings the beauty for their loved ones…”

“She was very spacey and that was pretty much what happened,” Elliott said. “She was distracted and had a lot of things going on.”

[From E! News]

I don’t know Bai, why can’t you just be the sun smile? Has anyone ever tested this woman to see what kind of medication/illegal drugs/mental illness issues she’s got? I’m guessing it’s a complicated mixture of all three. Look, breaking up with someone sucks, but when you’re an adult, it doesn’t make a big difference that it’s close to Valentine’s Day. That’s not the thing that pushes you over the edge from handling your breakup like a rational person to stealing $16 of crap from an airport convenience store.

Things really aren’t going well for Bai Ling. There’s the breakup, the arrest, the shame… but what I’m most worried about is someone who’s supposedly famous taking a Southwest flight? That costs all of $72 each way. And on top of that, she’s still so broke that she had to shoplift batteries? Maybe it’s time she stop dressing like a clock or a frog at public events and spend a little more time working.

Bai Ling’s greatest hits. Images thanks to PR Photos.
