Leonardo DiCaprio saves his costar from a real gunman!

Leonardo DiCaprio was out to lunch in Africa with Djimon Hounsou, his costar in the upcoming film “Blood Diamond.” Djimon Hounsou is the hot guy who starred in “Amistad” and played the tormented artist in “In America.” A man approached Hounsou with a gun and seemed to want to shoot him for no reason. Dicaprio stepped in front of the shooter, causing him to run away! Leo earns even more points by refusing to talk about the incident, which only adds to the mystique:

Hounsou remains puzzled as to why the gunman took exception to him while he was filming the new action film in Mozambique, but he’s sure he’d be wounded or dead if it wasn’t for the heroics of DiCaprio.

He explains, “He stood in the way of somebody who was trying to shoot me.”

“We went to eat somewhere and apparently somebody was threatening to kill me there. Leo said, ‘Well, you’re gonna have to go through me.’”

That was enough to make the gunman think twice and he fled the scene, leading a grateful Hounsou pouring praise on his pal.

Modest DiCaprio has refused to even discuss the matter during promotional interviews for the new film. He will only talk about his great friendship with Hounsou.

He explains, “We became like brothers on this movie… We were together for six months.”

Leo, one of People’s sexiest men alive, is also donating to help a South African orphanage where he met a girl who touched his heart. He says he wants to help her and the other orphans but that “he’s not married” and does not intend to have children of his own at this point.

Thanks to Viv for sending me this article.

Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio prank Jack Nicholson

From The National Enquirer’s Mike Walker comes the story of an hilarious prank Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio played on player Jack Nicholson. Nicholson was in the hospital to get his salivary glands checked out and they posed as masked interns trying to give him a rectal exam!

The usually unflappable JACK NICHOLSON, at LA’s Cedars-Sinai Medical Center to get a salivary gland problem checked out, waited patient-ly in an examining room until two men in medical garb and surgical masks walked in and brusquely informed him they were interns sent to perform his “initial workup.” While one picked up Jack’s chart and studied it, the other snapped on a rubber glove, brandished a tube of lubricant – and told the superstar, “Roll over, please, sir…we’ll be doing a rectal exam.” Turning pale, Jack immediately launched into non-stop protest, questioning the outrageous “overkill” of a radical probe for a problem at his opposite end…and was stunned speechless when the “interns” suddenly erupted in hysterical, howling laughter! Ripping off their masks, jokers MATT DAMON and LEONARDO DICAPRIO – costars of Jack’s new flick, “The Departed” – giggled helplessly as Matt gasped at gob-smacked Jack: “Dude…just the look on your face was worth all the planning!”

That’s a great story that would have been made better by news of an accompany Punk’d video, but I’ll have settle for a mental image.

Matt, Leo and Jack star in Martin Scorsese’s “The Departed,” which according to Pajiba is a well-crafted and compelling crime drama with an amazing cast.

All I need to know is that Matt Damon and Leonardo DiCaprio are in it. Mark Wahlberg is just an added bonus.

Here’s the trailer on YouTube.

And here are some pictures from the film, courtesy of All Movie Photo.

Leonardo DiCaprio in Details Magazine

Leonardo DiCaprio appears in a hot spread in Details Magazine. With two films coming out, there are plenty of quotes from Leo in the press.

There are a bunch of quotes from Leo about his lovelife that were published in News of the World. They sound like bullshit quotes to me, and I wouldn’t be surprised if they were made up. Some of them are real doozies:

“And my first kiss was the most disgusting thing in my life. The girl injected about a pound of saliva into my mouth. I had to walk off and spit it out,” he was quoted by the Newsoftheworld, as saying.

The actor also added that he is still looking for love.

“But when you’re my age and your hormones are kicking in there’s not much besides sex that’s on your mind. I do believe in love at first sight, though it hasn’t happened to me yet,” he added.

He said: “When I first became famous they started calling me and my friends the p**** posse.

“I think that’s the most degrading thing toward women I’ve ever heard in my life. I’d never use that term.

But he added: “I’ve never been a Romeo who meets a girl and falls for her immediately. It’s a slower process for me. I’ve always been a slow starter.

The Sun has some more likely quotes from Leo, in which he talks about how ridiculous fame is, and how girls started leeching onto him after he hit it big with “Titanic”:

He explains: “I was walking through the airport in Paris and I remember looking down to see a girl holding on to my leg.

“I said, ‘Whatever illusions of grandeur you have about me, they’re not true. I will sit here and talk to you.

“I will look you in the eye and we’ll speak and it’s fine. You don’t need to dig your nails into my leg. It doesn’t need to be this.’

“It was that whole Titanic phenomenon, something that was so foreign to me.”

“I never felt that aspect of celebrity ever infringed on my life until Titanic. That was a whole different ballgame.

“It became a cultural phenomenon and, after it came out, I was focusing on things that had nothing to do with the art.

“It was all the business. It was all about stories and photographs coming out about me.

“And all the business with agents, publicists and managers — that really can be extremely frustrating and distracting, and ultimately is a waste of time.

“There’s no real control over how the media or the public perceives you. You can only speak for yourself as an artist through the work you do.

“It was definitely a reflective time for me, where I secured in my mind who I wanted to be.

I learned to be even more specific about my goals as an actor, focus on the work more than ever and really wait for the right project. I didn’t want to squander the opportunities I had by making films I felt were recycled versions of ones we’ve seen a hundred times before.

Leo has certainly been successful in only taking on worthwhile projects. With an Oscar nomination under his belt, and more juicy roles in the can, he’s sure to continue to be a box office and critical success.

Leo is next appearing in “The Departed” along with Jack Nicholson, and also stars in the upcoming “Blood Diamond.”

Leonardo Dicaprio is a diamond in the rough

Leonardo DiCaprio looks like he’s hungover and is trying Cameron Diaz’s grease cure in these pictures of him getting takeout in Hollywood on 9/9. He has bedhead and a few day’s stubble but still manages to look cute while sipping a soda. In one picture I swear you can see him burp.

DiCaprio stars in the film “Blood Diamond,” which will be released this December. It is an historical fiction account of two men searching for a pink diamond that will change their lives, and is set in civil-war ravaged Sierra Leone in the 1990s. It has diamond companies running scared, as it reveals the human suffering that is the backbone of the diamond industry. They’re trying to run a PR campaign to counter the very real revelations in the film:

A new Web site about diamonds is also coming up to inform retailers and buyers positive things about the diamond industry, and to detail them about what’s been done to put a stop to conflict diamonds.

“We want to make sure that when people go to buy diamonds, they do it happily, assured that the diamonds they are buying aren’t tainted,” Contactmusic quoted World Diamond Council chair Eli Izhakoff, as saying.

In the film, DiCaprio plays a mercenary gun smuggler who takes up with a diamond buyer during the violent 1999 civil war in Sierra Leone.

Izhakoff further said that the film represents the way things previously were in Sierra Leone and other countries, but that the industry has worked hard since then to eradicate the problem, including supporting the Kimberly Process, whereby rough diamonds are tracked and certified. (ANI)

DiCaprio is well known for his environmental activism, and most likely welcomes the controversy over his new film. Here is DiCaprio getting takeout. [via]

Leonardo Dicaprio’s new girlfriend is predictably hot

Leonardo Dicaprio, 31, is dating Israeli model, Bar Rafaeli, 20.

The Aviator star, 31, and beauty Bar Rafael [sic], 20, have stepped out together in both Prague, Czech Republic, and the capital of romance, Paris, where they took a slow stroll before enjoying an intimate meal together.

DiCaprio split from his long-term supermodel girlfriend Gisele Bundchen last year, while Rafael recently dated ex-Baywatch actor David Charvet.

Dicaprio was spotted making out with a different gorgeous blonde in South Africa a few weeks ago, where he was shooting a film.

Here is Rafaeli’s swimsuit calendar. [via] and a low-res picture of her out with DiCaprio. [via]

Leonardo DiCaprio is not with Lindsay Lohan

Leonardo DiCaprio was spotted making out with a gorgeous blonde in South Africa, where he’s working on a film:

A source told Britain’s Daily Mirror newspaper: “He picked up a woman called Tamara, who looks like his ex Gisele Bundchen, at Café Caprice. Then they went on to another club, Opium, and were kissing like mad.

We reported a couple days ago that the rumor that DiCaprio and Lohan were an item sounded bogus to us. It may have been a brief fling, but if something happened both of them seem to have moved on.

Lohan and DiCaprio? Wouldn’t there be pictures?

This is not the first time we’ve heard this rumor. DiCaprio was said to have visited Lohan in the hospital back in early January when she had an asthma attack. (Remember to breathe girl. Sorry we couldn’t resist.)

Now the rumor that Linday Lohan and Leonardo DiCaprio are an item is being recycled again:

A source is quoted in Britain’s News Of The World newspaper as saying: “Leonardo is besotted with Lindsay. They are a perfect match.

“They wanted to keep it a secret just because it’s more fun that way.”

The pair hooked up at a New Year’s Eve party hosted by Lindsay in Miami. They have being seeing each other ever since – despite the 12 year age gap – and friends say they are helping each other get over their recent break-ups…

A friend of the pair said: “They had both come out of recent relationships so it was the perfect timing for both of them. Friends wouldn’t be surprised if they settle down.”

[via]

Photographers follow Lindsay Lohan around everywhere, so if she’s had even one secret meeting with Leonardo DiCaprio it seems like someone, somewhere would have a picture or more details than this. We don’t buy this story, but it’s hard to ignore it.

Plus we couldn’t find the actual article on the News of the World website, so it’s possible one of the aggregate gossip sites is just reprinting very old news.
