Liv Tyler: “I’m learning every day how to get through life and the world”

I just adore Liv Tyler. I think it’s her vulnerability, which seems genuine. I also always remember seeing her kiss Davis Bowie’s hand when she first met him on The Late Show. It was like she was in awe of him and didn’t know what else to do, and it came across as sweet. (I googled that to see if I could find a video, and I did and I remembered it wrong! He kissed her hand first.)

Anyway Liv has been in a lot of emotional turmoil since the end of her five year marriage, to British rocker Royston Langdon, in 2008. She did an interview with Wonderland magazine around the time of her split and it just broke my heart. She said at the time “There’s nothing worse than heartache, being lovesick. It’s like there’s a physical sickness.” She’s 34 and it’s been a few years since her breakup. She’s rich and she’s raising a little seven year-old boy who sounds like he brings a lot of light and love into her life. So I’m hoping that things are looking up for Liv, but in a new interview with Marie Claire UK she still seems like she’s hurt and struggling. That’s just how she’s always been, to hear Liv explain it. Here’s more:

On going East Coast for her son Milo:
“I’m always trying to figure out what’s best for him [Milo] as a person. The kind of person I want him to be. The values I want him to have. Much as I love my friends and LA, I want him to have more of an East Coast upbringing. The sense of community. Walking to school four blocks away.”

On gradually getting over her divorce:
“I feel like I’m learning every day how to get through life and the world. Not just from the divorce. I felt that way throughout my whole life, ever since I was young person. I’ve had a lot of big things happen to me.”

On her unconventional upbringing and what it’s done for her decision-making skills as a mom:
“Absolutely. It’s brought up a tremendous amount of issues, concerns and worries for me, being a mother, and how much that meant to be based on my childhood and what I went through. Wonderful, beautiful things and difficult things. It was always a dream of mine to be a mother. I didn’t ever really dream of being an actress. I used to dream of being a singer, but I always dreamed of being a mother ever since I was young girl.”

On those pesky rumors that she quit acting, or is slowing phasing it out of her life:
“I’ve never really stopped. Even when I was a kid I’d work for a year straight and then I would take a year off. It always felt natural to live my life again and store things up to put in my next performance.”

On her love of collecting photographs on her phone:
“Obsessively, I have thousands of pictures on my phone. Why am I so fascinated with capturing moments? I’ll tell you why. Because I’ve had so much change in my life. My whole life things have constantly changed, so psychologically I’m sure I’m quite sentimental. I want to remember the feeling, not only what it looks like. When it’s happening, it’s so wonderful but I know it’s gonna change or not gonna last. Everything changes so I want to remember it because I feel grateful for it.”

[From Marie Claire UK via Evil Beet]

I think it’s sweet that she said she’s “dreamed of being a mother ever since I was young girl” and like that’s what she finds meaning in. Liv’s movie career didn’t quite take off after Lord of The Rings, and that seems apt since I’ve find her acting kind of one dimensional. I like to see her on screen, though, just because she’s so damn likable and gorgeous. Liv will next appear in Robot and Frank, with Frank Langella, James Marsden, Susan Sarandon and Peter Sarsgaard. It’s about an “elderly ex-jewel thief and his new caretaker robot” and premiered at Sundance. In this interview she’s promoting Pantene, though. With gorgeous hair like that she’s an effective spokesperson. She’s probably got some extensions, but her hair doesn’t look all fakey fake like Kate Beckinsale’s.

Liv Tyler in polka-dotted Stella McCartney: dated, fug or cute?

wenn3325456

I think I knew at one point that Liv Tyler and Stella McCartney have been friends for a long time. Stella’s high-profile friendships seem to get overshadowed in the ongoing Gwyenth-Madonna War, but here are some new photos of Liv being the biggest celebrity to show up for her friend Stella, at Stella’s new store opening in NYC. Liv wore Stella too – this polka-dotted mess of a dress. It looks so… dated. Is Stella just grabbing dresses from the 1990s (all of them worn by Julia Roberts??) and calling them her own designs?

With a friendship going back over a decade, Liv Tyler can always be counted on to be one of Stella McCartney’s biggest champions. So when the British designer opened her latest store in Tyler’s hometown of New York, the actress was a guaranteed attendee.

The Lord Of The Rings beauty showed off her stunning figure in a black polka dot dress from Stella’s Autumn/Winter 2011 collection as she arrived at the Manhattan boutique. The 33-year-old, who stands tall at 5ft 10in, teamed the sheer and structured peplum dress with a pair of towering heels. Polka dots are back in fashion this season with a host of designers incorporating the pattern into their designs.

But the designer was typically more casual in a white top and black trousers as she welcomed guests and fashion writers into her latest store.

On Monday night, Tyler was in another Stella design at the Metropolitan Museum Of Art Institute Gala. The actress wore a dramatic white feathered strapless number with an ombre yellow hemline at the event, which was held in tribute to late designer Alexander McQueen.

[From The Daily Mail]

Yes, CB was going to write about Liv’s Stella dress at the Met Gala, but she never got around to it (because there were SO MANY photos that day!). I’ve included some photos of it, below. I don’t really like it… on Liv. I think it might have worked better on a blonde, although I think PARTS of the dress are rather lovely. However, the yellow-butt thing is just weird.

UPDATE: Oh, so the Met Gala gown is Givenchy, not Stella. My bad. Bad Daily Mail!

Liv Tyler has a new 24 year-old boyfriend

fp_6957856_tyler_sevigny_tr
I really like Liv Tyler. She seems like a genuine person, like a sweetheart and like she’s fragile. We don’t hear much from her as she’s kept a low profile and she doesn’t have many big ticket movies coming out recently. The one time we’ve seen her at an event recently she looked much thinner and a bit Botoxy, but she’s still gorgeous as usual.

When Tyler split up with her husband, Royston Langdon, in 2008 she called it heartbreaking, said she was lovesick and still mourning, and claimed that she can’t date and “wouldn’t be capable of having a casual fling… I’m far too sensitive, and I just wouldn’t have any pleasure from it.” So it’s nice to see Liv moving on after all that.

Liv, 33, has been spotted out with a 24 year-old photographer named Theo Wenner, who is the son of the founder of Rolling Stone. She’s been seen with the guy a couple of times so it looks like he’s more than just a friend.

Liv Tyler has sparked rumours she has found love again following her painful divorce by stepping out with her new photographer boyfriend.

The Hollywood actress, 33, split from British rocker Royston Langdon, the father of her six-year-old son Milo, in 2008 after five years of marriage.

She recently revealed the “painful” divorce left her devastated and struggling to rebuild her life again.

Tyler has now proved she is finally moving on after she was spotted enjoying a date with celebrity snapper Theo Wenner, the 24-year-old son of Rolling Stone publisher Jann Wenner.

They were pictured having lunch together in New York and strolling around Manhattan this week.

A source tells Life & Style magazine, “He’s really young, but they’ve been dating for a while now.”

[From The Toronto Sun]

Good for Liv if she’s moving on and it’s serious. It sounds kind of sad that she’s not able to casually date, but as Kaiser pointed out in another story on Liv it’s not like she’s parading around her flavor of the month in front of her little kid like some other divorced celebrity moms we know.

Liv’s latest movie, Super, costars Rainn Wilson and Ellen Page and is currently out in limited release. She has another film, a thriller calledThe Ledge, coming out next year with Patrick Wilson, Terrence Howard and Charlie Hunnam.

You can see photos of Liv and Theo on Popsugar. He’s really cute!

Update: And Lainey has more on Liv’s new boyfriend and his work. He’s shot a lot of celebrities and seems to have talent.

Is Liv Tyler looking a little plastic surgery-ish to anyone else?

wenn3260414

I’m not a huge fan of Liv Tyler in general, but I don’t dislike for any reason. She’s pretty harmless, and I appreciate that she’s not a famewhore who gets pap’d constantly. She’s made some good movies, and she’s made some terrible movies, and I’m always surprised that she consistently gets work, because I’ve never thought she was very talented. But I’ve always thought she was pretty, in a “different” way. She has a unique beauty, and yet… she has a kind of girl-next-door prettiness that makes her seem like the kind of woman that you could hang out with and go shopping with. Anyway, these are photos of Liv (and her dad) at last night’s premiere of Super. At first, I didn’t even recognize her. I thought I was looking at photos of Rebecca Hall!

So, here’s the question: did Liv get a little nip-tuck, or am I just surprised with these photos because I’m not constantly bombarded with pap photos of her? Something about her eyes looks weird to me. There’s a tightness, I guess. Or maybe it’s just the makeup? Or because she’s standing next to her dad? If she had some work done, I’ll be disappointed.

Liv Tyler’s overly Photoshopped face on Tatler: ‘I can’t date’

tatler
There’s something so sweet and vulnerable about Liv Tyler and I have this protective instinct that takes over when I read her interviews. She’s a genuinely good person and I get a warm yet tender vibe from her. We haven’t heard much from Tyler lately, and the last interview I remember with her was over a year ago. I’m sure she’s done interviews since, but this one really stood out for me as she was so candid. She explained how she was dealing with the pain of her divorce, from British rocker Royston Langdon, who she was married to from 2003-2008, and said “there’s nothing worse than heartache, being lovesick. It’s like there’s a physical sickness.” Liv has a son, Milo, five and a half, with Langdon.

In a new interview with British magazine Tatler, Liv says that she has trouble casually dating, and that it’s rare for her to really fall for someone. So far these are the only quotes I could find from the interview and I hope that we hear more from it soon:

After separating from her husband Royston Langdon of the band Spacehog seven years ago, Liv Tyler seems in no hurry to get hitched again.

“I fall in love once in a blue moon,” the 32-year-old actress and model wistfully informs Tatler.

She adds that her friends have tried to persuade her to go out on dates, but she will have none of it. “I wouldn’t be capable of having a casual fling,” she says. “I’m far too sensitive, and I just wouldn’t have any pleasure from it.”

[From Telegraph.co.uk]

We haven’t heard much about Tyler’s dating life, but she was linked briefly to notorious womanizer Zach Braff late last year. From everything I’ve heard about the guy, he’s a royal jerk. Maybe Tyler just isn’t dating the right guys! There are plenty of decent men who would love to have a chance with her, and it doesn’t have to end in more heartache. It must be hard being a single mom, and a celebrity, and trying to weed out the men with good intentions. Especially if there are guys like Zach Braff falling all over themselves to date you. Just google them first, Liv! At least she’s not falling hard for every guy she dates, like a certain other celebrity mom who never seems to go a week without a serious boyfriend.

Oh and I have to mention how weird Liv’s face looks on the cover of Tatler! She’s a beautiful woman, but they did something to her face that makes it look like her mouth is taking over. Maybe the image looks better on the magazine than it does on this kind of lossy image. What should be a lovely Ralph Lauren-esque type shot is kind of ruined by drab hair and a strange expression that’s been overly “corrected” by Photoshop.

Liv Tyler spotted out on a date with notorious player Zach Braff

burberry 9 220909
The lovely Liv Tyler may be moving on after her painful divorce from British musician Royston Langdon last year. She told Wonderland magazine in an interview published in February that she was still going through a hard time but had a lot of support from friends. “It takes a long time, but you do kind of wake up one day and you just feel a little tiny bit better… There’s nothing worse than heartache, being lovesick.”

According to The National Enquirer, Tyler has a potential new boyfriend in indie actor Zach Braff. Tyler, 32, and Braff, 34, were spotted out on a date looking cozy. If it turns into more for them we’re sure to hear more about it:

“Liv was emotionally drained after breaking up with Royston, and she decided to wait a while before dating again,” said the friend. “But Zach makes her laugh and hasn’t pressured Liv into a serious commitment. He’s got her believing in romance again.”

The couple enjoyed a cozy dinner on Nov. 14 at Vinoteca wine bar in the Los Feliz neighborhood of Los Angeles.

“Zach had his arm wrapped around her and was whispering in her ear,” said an eyewitness. “It was very touchy-feely. It was definitely a romantic night out for them.”

While Liv, 32, is thrilled with her new relationship, close pals have cautioned her about Zach’s love-’em and leave-’em reputation…

“Liv swears Zach is a sweetheart, but her friends have serious reservations and have told her so,” added the friend.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, December 14, 2009]

From what I heard Braff was really awful to Mandy Moore when they were together, and he’s said to be a total player. Gawker even banned stalker reports of him in 2007 because he was all over NY hitting on various women like the semi-famous leech that he is. Tyler seems like a sensitive, vulnerable person and I hope that she listens to her friends and plays the field instead of falling for Braff. The least she could do would be to Google the guy and find out for herself that he’s not to be trusted.

Liv Tyler tries to get a woman to stop yelling at a crying baby, gets told off

infphoto_1002500
Liv Tyler was photographed trying to help a crying toddler that was being yelled at by a woman who looks like she could be her grandmother yesterday. Tyler bent over and tried to comfort the little girl when the woman angrily told her it was none of her business. She then went to her car and possibly called the cops. Here’s the description from the photo agency:

Liv Tyler threatens to call the police after witnessing a woman on Santa Monica Boulevard yelling at a crying baby in a stroller. Liv checks the little girl to make sure that she is ok and then walks over to her car to dial 911 after the woman tells her that this is none of her business in Los Angeles, California.

[From INFPhoto.com photo description via Radar Online]

I was once behind a woman in line at Babies ‘R Us who was completely ignoring her screaming newborn. The infant sounded in such distress and everyone was trying to say soothing things to the baby. I wanted to pick up the baby and comfort it but I resisted. The woman was buying formula and she totally laughed and shrugged it off. My husband and I found it really disturbing. Usually I don’t butt in when other people are with their kids but your first instinct is to protect children when you witness something like that. When you see someone screaming at an innocent child you want to intervene, especially if you’re a mom like Liv and can imagine someone doing that to your child. Good for her for trying to do something about it. If this was a grandmother or a babysitter maybe the child’s parents will see these pictures and make sure that they get someone else to watch their little girl.

Liv Tyler has been photographed outside the gym quite a bit lately. I don’t want to give that scam artist Tracey Anderson any publicity, but Tyler has been been attending classes at the pint-sized self-promoter’s LA studio. Whatever works, I guess. Tyler is looking great, but she always does.

Liv Tyler talks about being estranged from her dad, dealing with divorce

liv4
Liv Tyler has a new interview with Wonderland Magazine that’s both unfiltered and endearing. You can tell that she had a good rapport with the interviewer almost from the start, and she let her guard down and shared some personal information about her relationship with her father, Steven Tyler, and how she’s dealing with the pain from her divorce with the help of good friends.

On her divorce
But the truth is that, it takes a long time, but you do kind of wake up one day and you just feel a little tiny bit better…

There’s nothing worse than heartache, being lovesick. It’s like there’s a physical sickness. You go through a couple of weeks where you think , ‘Oh, I’m okay, I feel better,’ and then suddenly, out of nowhere, it hits you again… You also realise who your friends are. When Roy and I broke up, Bobby literally moved in with me and helped me get through everything. And my other best friend, Victoria, she’s with me in L.A. right now. The hardest part is when they leave… It also brings up a lot of issues: you might feel like a failure, or like there is something wrong with you. I see a lot of people run away from it, or they act like they don’t care. But if you don’t let yourself mourn, it’s going to come back and bite you on the ass. You can’t run away from yourself: you kind of have to just deal with it.”

On the paparazzi
I have more privacy in L.A. because you can run around in your yard. But the paparazzi are very weird, because they actually stalk you. Like they have someone wait in the car all the time, so whenever you leave…

I’m really boring: I take my son to school; I go to the grocery store. So I don’t play their game. But it’s confusing because they kind of trick you. Some days they’re really obvious, and then some days you’re driving and you look back for them, and they’re not there, and you’ll feel like a weird narcissist. And then you’ll think: “Oh, I’m free.” So you’ll have two weeks where you can be in your sweats with no make-up on. And then, suddenly, you realise they have been there all the time, just hiding out.

On her relationship with biological dad Steven Tyler, who she first met when she was eight
You know that relationship is still sort of hard. He’s very busy, my dad. He’s not around very much; it’s sort of hard being the daughter of a rock star. There’s definitely, at times… it can be painful… especially for me, I can’t speak for all of his…[She trails off]…

In the past few years we haven’t been very close. He has been going through a lot of things on his own and he has not been the… he hasn’t been around that much for us. So that’s been hard. But I probably shouldn’t be talking about this… I wish, I wish, I really wish he was around more, to know Milo more, and… but he has to go through what he goes through.

[From Wonderlandmagazine.com]

There’s something vulnerable and completely genuine about Tyler and I’m rooting for her and hoping she finds some closure on her relationship. Her dad Steven went to rehab last Spring and is likely having personal issues, especially considering some of the things he’s said recently to the press. Liv considered Todd Rundgren her father for most of her childhood, and she spoke of him fondly in the interview, saying “I have so much love for him… when he holds me it feels like daddy.”

You wonder if Liv is promoting anything as she doesn’t have any films out in the UK, where Wonderland is published, and she doesn’t have anything lined up, according to IMDB. I’d like to see her in more roles as she has both talent and beauty.

Liv Tyler and Drew Barrymore party like pumas

Liv Tyler and Drew Barrymore at the 1999 Oscars

Webster’s defines a puma as a “large wild cat found in North and South America. Tawny- coated, it is 4.5 ft/1.5 m long with a 3 ft/1 m tail. It lives alone, with each male occupying a distinct territory; it eats deer, rodents, and cattle. It has been hunted nearly to extinction.”

Webster’s definition of a cougar is “another name for the puma.”

In other words, a puma and a cougar are the same animal. I’m not sure why cougar and not puma became the go-to word for women like Demi Moore and Sharon Stone who go for much younger men.

Apparently there is a distinction, according to the Urban Dictionary: “In the lexicon of older women seeking younger men, a jaguar is 50 and over, where the cougar is in their 40s, and the puma under 40.”

Liv Tyler may not know that puma and cougar are synonyms, but she does know her slang.

Going through her first divorce, Liv and twice-divorced friend Drew Barrymore had a ladies’ night out October 9 at The Terrace at Sunset Tower Hotel in LA, according to Life & Style.

Drew confessed to Liv, “I love dating younger guys — I’m a bona fide cougar.” Liv protested that they were too young to be cougars.

“Aren’t we pumas?” Liv asked. “I think pre-cougar is puma.”

Puma or cougar, Life & Style claims Drew “turned the whole place into a party.”

Drew, 33, who recently hooked up with Ed Westwick, 21, and has dated Fabrizio Moretti, 28, and Justin Long, 30, seemed pleased as punch with the label and ordered another round of martinis. “They were laughing so much,” says the witness. “Drew kept joking with the wait staff, inviting them to sit with her, offering to buy them shots.”

[From Life & Style, print edition, October 27, 2008]

For future reference, a young cougar is technically referred to as a kitten or a cub.

Whatever the term, go for it, girls. As Demi Moore can surely attest, if you can’t find a good man, raise one.

Note by Celebitchy: Drew Barrymore isn’t always a puma by her own definition of the word. The last guy she was seen out with was 45 year-old producer Barry Mendel, who is working with her on her film Whip It. Here are photos of those two out together on 10/5/08. Liv Tyler is also shown with her son, Milo, who turns four in December, on 10/21/08. Credit: Fame Pictures. You may have already heard this story, but I thought it was a cute one.

Liv Tyler talks about the pain of her divorce

People Magazine has excerpts from an interview with Liv Tyler recently published in the UK edition of Marie Claire. The 31 year-old actress and mother of one speaks candidly about trying to find her way as she goes through a divorce from her first husband, British rocker Royston Langdon. Langdon and Tyler remain committed parents to their son Milo, who turns four in December. Tyler says she’s not ready to date again and that she’s just working through the pain of dealing with the loss of her five year marriage:

Coming to terms with the end of her five-year marriage has not been easy for the actress, despite her seemingly serene nature. “I don’t feel calm and collected. I feel neurotic, like Woody Allen,” says Tyler, 31. “I’m a Cancer and sometimes I just feel like a crab without a shell.”

Tyler who lives in New York City with the couple’s three-year-old son Milo, has her own theory when it comes to healing. “I am trying to just let myself feel it,” she says. “I think you have to mourn and you have to feel that pain.”

For now, dating remains far from Tyler’s mind. In fact, the actress says she can’t even remember the last time she had a romantic kiss. “I kiss Milo on the lips all the time but I haven’t had a kiss kiss for a very long time,” she reveals.

On what lies ahead for the actress, Tyler says she is optimistic: “I’m trying to just take one day at a time and be the best mom I can – but it is a strange time, like walking down the road with nowhere to go … We’ll see where it takes me.”

[From People]

I really like Tyler and think she comes across as a kind, genuine person. I hope that she’s able to get through this difficult time in her life and move forward to a happier place, whether that involves another man or not. Tyler doesn’t have another movie in the works, according to IMDB, which may have motivated her to speak to Marie Claire and be bit more candid about what she’s going through in order to get more press. She doesn’t strike me as the type to manipulate the media, but she probably knows what she’s doing when she opens up to a magazine. She seems able to keep her distance and speak in general terms if she wants to, unlike other stars trying to promote their new country albums who just can’t stop talking about their personal lives every minute they’re handed a microphone. Yes, the unnamed but obvious woman I’m referencing is starting to bug the shit out of me with her constant blathering. Tyler, on the other hand, gets our attention for some well-placed tidbits about her life. She knows when to show some skin and when to cover it up.
