Luke Wilson shows off his noticeable weight gain at the ‘Enlightened’ premiere

I already know that I’m going to be yelled at for pointing this out, but in my defense, it would be big news if a celebrity woman walked her first red carpet in more than a year and showed off her noticeable weight gain. These are photos of Luke Wilson at last night’s premiere of the new Showtime show Enlightened, which Luke appears in. Luke has gained noticeable weight. But I was looking through all of the photos of him, and it’s not like he has some beer-and-nacho-gut. Most of the weight seemed to go directly to his face. What does this mean? Is it the result of some kind of medication that I shouldn’t even speculate about? Or is it just too much beer and pot and refried beans and butter?

Despite his reportedly douchey attitude at times, I’ve always sort of liked Luke Wilson. I was recently watching The Royal Tenenbaums for the millionth time, and I was reminded again of how talented he is. He’s an underrated actor. I suspect that he’s not very ambitious, though. Eh. It’s not the worst thing.

As for this new show, Enlightened, it sounds… meh. Laura Dern plays a woman who has an affair with her married boss, and the boss transfers her out. Thus begins her character’s “journey of self-discovery” which includes Hawaiian vacations and counseling and new-found “bliss”. Luke plays Dern’s pothead ex-husband. It sounds meh to me. You can read more about it here.

Here’s what Luke looked like back in April of 2010:

Luke Wilson was an unprofessional diva on set of AT&T commercials

25th Annual Santa Barbara International Film Festival - Day 11
Whenever my daughter sees those AT&T spots starring Luke Wilson, she remarks, “That man has an abnormally large head.” If the new reports are to be believed, she just might be right about that. Wilson doesn’t like being the spokesperson for AT&T wireless anymore, and he doesn’t care who knows it. What started out as a low-key gig that made the “Royal Tenenbaums” actor some extra money between projects is now a full time job that makes Wilson so cranky, he recently copped a major attitude while taping a new commercial.

Luke Wilson just wants to do movies, especially independent films, but he recently signed a deal with AT&T to make the funny commercials about the cell phone network’s reach that you have probably seen by this point.

But Fox411 has learned that the “Old School” star is miserable doing the project and has earned a reputation for being a diva on set.

“Luke was awful during the filmings – he would even talk back to the director,” said our source close to the TV spot. “He refused to say lines and wanted them re-written. There were some lines meant to direct the commercial in a certain way, but Luke downright refused to say the lines at all. Luke kept saying, ‘I would never say that and I will not say that!’ The staff and production teams were shocked.”

F0x411 has learned that Wilson is so picky he won’t share the camera with anyone, either.

“Luke will not shoot scenes with other actors,” said our snitch. “Any scenes that include Luke and someone else were shot with the actors separately. He would not do scenes with anyone, so doubles are used and the scenes are edited together to make the commercials work.”

“Everyone misses the old days when they didn’t have a ‘name’ doing the commercials,” our source said. “Luke has made the filming process so unpleasant that people dread working with him. Luke is annoyed that he has to do commercials to make money as an actor and he makes the experience miserable, because he’s miserable. It’s unprofessional and unpleasant.”

Wilson’s reps did not return emails requesting comment.

Wilson can be seen happily (we hope) working in his new film, “Death at a Funeral,” in theaters April 16th.

[From Fox News]

This reminds me of similar stories about actress Catherine Zeta Jones when she was the T-Mobile spokesperson. Rumors about Catherine’s on-set demands fueled speculation for why they dropped her from ads, but recently, she’s been featured in a new set of ads, so maybe they were willing to put up with her. The Luke Wilson ads seem pretty popular as well, so I don’t think he’s going anywhere. Cheer up, Luke! At least starring in these commercials will keep you from doing another crappy movie with Jessica Simpson- we hope.

Jessica Simpson’s latest movie will go straight to DVD

screen-capture-professional-13-168.jpg

Jessica Simpson’s career – and life in general – seem to be headed for the $4.99 bin at Walmart. While her younger sister Ashlee’s career has gone reasonably well in the last year, Jessica’s has tanked since she divorced Nick Lachey. To be fair, Ashlee’s career never hit the sane high point as Jessica’s, and she seems to have established a slightly lower profile, but more stable image. Instead of working her way out of her career slump, Jessica has been in a string of B, C, and now D movies. Her latest effort, “Blonde Ambition,” is an all-time low: the studio that made it has decided not to even waste anymore of their time and money by releasing the movie to theaters. Instead they’re saving themselves the embarrassment and making “Blonde Ambition” a straight-to-DVD release. So that pretty much puts it in the same ranks as ‘Honey I Blew Up the Kids,” and the even better ‘Honey We Shrunk Ourselves.” Congrats, Jessica, you are our generation’s Rick Moranis. It was only a matter of time.

Maybe Jessica Simpson should stick with reality television – her latest attempt at big screen success won’t even make it to the big screen. Blonde Ambition, as Us first reported in August, is going straight to DVD.

A January 22 release date has been confirmed for the romantic comedy costarring Luke Wilson. “The movie is absolutely horrible,” a source told Us in August. “It’s just a bomb, mainly because of Jessica’s acting.”

“It’s definitely a theatrical release,” Simpson’s rep insisted at the time. It’s now selling for less than retail.

[From Us]

It’s really unfair to do that to Luke Wilson’s career. You know he was only in your movie as a pity actor Jessica. I never thought I’d say this, but you should take a piece of advice from the Paris Hilton School of Celebrity. Some people are famous for their talent, some for their brains, and some for their bodies. And some are famous just for being famous. Your career was going best when you did a little bit of reality TV and made a lot of appearances at clubs and trendy restaurants. Your most valuable asset is your fame, not your talent. Work what you’ve got left.

Here’s the “Blonde Ambition” trailer. Viewer discretion is advised. Because it sucks.
