Britney Spears rear ended another car - while she was applying makeup

Britney Spears was involved in a minor fender bender at around 8:15 Saturday night on the 101 Freeway in Los Angeles. Britney’s car hit the car of the guy in front of her in stop and go traffic. She tried to brake but it was too late, and she hit him at about 10-15 mph. That guy’s car then bumped into the car in front of him, but there was no damage to the third vehicle.

She passed standard sobriety test after causing minor accident
Britney was given a field sobriety test by the California Highway Patrol and passed, and apparently that’s standard procedure with a car accident at that time of night. She was not behaving as if she was drunk and officers did not suspect that she was.

The guy in the car Britney hit was 21, and he told TMZ that he was checking out Britney in his rearview mirror before she hit him and noticed that she was applying makeup. It wasn’t until after the minor crash that he realized who she was.

Britney did not apologize to the guy she hit, but her bodyguard did. She did mention that she was on her way to have dinner with her mom.

Why was Britney driving if she still had to do her makeup and was presumably late for dinner? She had a bodyguard in the car who just as easily could have driven for her.

What kind of makeup was she applying?
What I really wonder is what kind of makeup she was applying, because this is an important detail. It’s moderately dangerous to put on lipstick while you’re driving. You can do a little touch up without looking in the mirror if you’re careful and driving slow enough. Maybe you could apply some blush if it’s the stick kind, I love that type because it’s so convenient, as long as you do it without checking yourself out in the mirror, and don’t blend it until after you’re stopped.

But there’s no way you should ever put on concealer or any kind of eye makeup while you’re driving, because you can’t do that without seeing yourself, and that’s way too distracting. I will admit to putting on mascara twice while I was driving, because I was super late to something and was young and stupid enough to think that it was ok. I don’t put on any kind of makeup now while I’m operating a motor vehicle, probably because I’m older and less vain, but I also have a kid and he’s usually in the car with me. It’s just not worth the risk. You may as well be 10 minutes late.

What’s Britney’s excuse? She was just going to meet her mom. She gets her photograph taken everywhere she goes, but all she has to do is put on sunglasses and wait to do her makeup in the bathroom once she gets there.

It’s possible that a lawsuit might result from this minor accident. The guy Britney hit told TMZ that his back was hurting the next day. Oh please.

[Details from several reports on TMZ.com] Thanks to WENN for these photos of the accident.

Pete Doherty Engaged To Another Model - How Does He Do It?

Pete Doherty must be quite a catch, it’s just I don’t see it. Perhaps it’s his ingenuity, making his cat its own little crack pipe? Perhaps it’s his bedroom abilities? I don’t think it’s his musical talent, since as far as I can tell he doesn’t spend a whole lot of time making any. Still, he must have something going for him, with his rumoured engagement to model Irina Lazareanu.

“I very recently got engaged,” the Romania-born, Canada-reared Lazareanu, 25, is quoted by the fashion-industry trade paper as saying at Tuesday’s fashion shows in Paris. No wedding date has been set, the paper adds.

Lazareanu and Doherty have reportedly known each other for 10 years and have long been linked through his band – she was a backup singer – as well as with fellow musician (and friend) Sean Lennon.

A rep for Lazareanu’s agency would not confirm or deny the engagement. But a friend who was with her backstage Tuesday told PEOPLE, “She had a huge rock on her finger and when I asked her about it, she said she was engaged.”

People

Irina is friends with Kate Moss, she was featured when Kate guest-edited Vogue, and was the face of her Top Shop collection.

Pete was given a chance to kick his drug habit before his next court hearing by judge Davinder Lachhar. This is a result of his negative drug test results over the last six weeks. Pete is appearing in court charged with – what else? – drug and motoring offences.

Kate Moss might be feeling like it just isn’t her week – her ex-fiance is now marrying her friend and she’s in trouble for wearing false eyelashes. While most of us think that a well placed false eyelash is the ultimate in flirt power, it seems wearing them in a mascara advertisement gets you in trouble with British television watchdogs.

Rimmel’s “Magnif’eyes mascara” adverts broke the rules by using images which may have exaggerated the product’s benefits, it added. And the television advert’s claim that the mascara gave “70 per cent more lash lift” could have misled viewers because it referred to a change in appearance, not actual lash length.

J Walter Thompson, the advertising agency behind Rimmel’s campaign, told the authority that Moss’s eyelashes were “cleaned up and enhanced” in post-production but did not explain the extent to which their appearance had been changed.

It insisted that Moss did not wear false lashes at the shoot but supplied no evidence to support its denial.

Independent

I thought everyone knew that false eyelashes were used in make up advertisements, particularly the recently panned Penelope Cruz ad where her lashes look like a couple of spiders are dancing on her eyelids. Truth in advertising, what next?

Note by Celebitchy: Kate Moss has been blabbing to friends that she’s engaged to her new boyfriend, musician Jamie Hince of The Hills, so it’s possible that Pete and Irina’s engagement was prompted by that news.

Mandy Moore morphs into Drew Barrymore; shuts down party to go to bed

When I saw the thumbnail picture for this photoset of the Dedication premiere, I wasn’t sure who it was right away and I assumed I was looking at some young British celebrity that’s vaguely familiar but whom I couldn’t place. Then when I looked further and realized it was Mandy Moore, I thought “why did she do that to herself?”

I get that she wants to change her look and is going for sultry and mysterious, it’s written all over her pouty mouth, but berry lipgloss with light sparkly eyeshadow? A dress with a built-in corset? It’s like she’s going to the prom and got her makeup at CVS. (Although you can do a hell of a lot better with drugstore makeup than this.) Either she’s working with JLo’s fired makeup artist or she tried to do her own makeup based on some high school formula of pretty. She looks a lot like Drew Barrymore here, who also looks good at premieres but has suffered from bad makeup choices in the past.

Her eyebrows are shaped well, I’ll give her that.

Overall the look is Hot Topic meets Forever 21, it’s too young and goofy-looking.

Mandy Moore is one of the better young celebrities, I really like her and I know she stays out of the spotlight and doesn’t party all the time or sleep around. It would be remiss of me if I didn’t take her to task for this look, though. Hire a decent expert to help you, Mandy, please. You are gorgeous and just need to accent it properly.

Mandy Moore recently said that she’s not going to go off the deep end and do drugs or get wasted every night. She said she’s only been drunk four times in her life and that drugs aren’t for her.

She said: “I’ve probably been drunk, maybe, four times in my entire life. Honestly. I guess I’m a bit of a lightweight.

“I have a better time enjoying one glass of wine and just being relaxed. It’s a bit of a control thing - I don’t like not being in control of my words. I like to go to bed at 10pm, or 10.30pm, because I like to wake up at 7am…”

She added: “Maybe for some people drink and drugs work for them, but I’m not a tortured artist. I wouldn’t turn to some sort of substance to make me feel better, I’d turn to writing.”

[Monsters and Critics]

It definitely sounds true that Mandy likes an early bedtime. The Enquirer also had an amusing story a couple of weeks ago about Mandy kicking people out of a house party in the Hamptons when she wanted to go to bed. It wasn’t even her house!

During a party at a mansion owned by the Manhattan club, Stereo, Mandy dropped in to surprise her ex-boyfriend, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, according to insiders. “Mandy instituted a ton of rules and restrictions,” divulged a source. “She stayed upstairs with DJ AM and refused to come downstairs for a barbeque….”

She returned to the house with DJ AM, but went straight to bed alone - and her early bedtime prohibited late-night swimming in the estate’s outdoor pool.

“People were told Mandy didn’t want a lot of noise and that she was very sensitive to sounds while she was sleeping,” confided the source.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, August 6, 2007]

It’s nice hearing about a star who’s a diva for going to bed early and not partying too hard. If only she could get her look straight. It’s not that bad, just not suited to her.

Mandy is shown at the premiere of her romantic comedy, Dedication, with Billy Crudup in NY last night. The film is out in limited release on August 24.

Reese Witherspoon Is An Avon Lady

Reese Witherspoon is going to be the new global face of Avon. She is, according to their press release, going to be the brands first ever ‘Global Ambassador’.

“Our partnership with Reese represents a breakthrough moment for our company — and comes just months after the launch of our successful Hello Tomorrow campaign, which signaled a true evolution for the Avon brand,” said Geralyn Breig, Senior Vice President and Global Brand resident, Avon Products, Inc. “This is the first time we have had celebrity representation on all three dimensions of our business — our philanthropic initiatives, our brand, and the Avon Representative — and we are incredibly excited to have someone of Reese’s talent and stature add her voice to Avon’s message to help bring it to the world.”

The Avon Foundation and Ms. Witherspoon will partner in raising awareness for the Foundation’s programs in the areas of breast cancer, domestic violence and emergency relief. The Avon Foundation is a 501(c)(3) public charity founded in 1955 with the mission of championing the health and well being of women globally through its philanthropic efforts.

“I am very excited to be partnering with Avon. Avon is more than an iconic world class beauty leader — it is a company that is known the world over as a crusader for women’s causes,” said Ms. Witherspoon. “I am truly impressed by how Avon has been able to effect real change in the
communities in which it does business, and by how committed the company is to providing economic and personal fulfillment to women all over the world. I feel a great responsibility in my own life to give back to society. Now, as the Honorary Chairman of the Avon Foundation, I am proud to be joining in the great philanthropic work that is already underway.”

PR Newswire

Oh, she is so perfect to be an Avon Lady. I never really believed glamourpuss Salma Hayek used Avon products – even though there’s nothing wrong with them at all – but I could definitely see Reese Witherspoon using them. She’s such a mum. I wish she was my mum – I’d borrow her clothes!

Reese is also reportedly seeing Jake Gyllenhaal again/still, and has signed onto star in a movie with Vince Vaughan. It’s titled ‘Four Christmases’ and is a comedy about a couple trying to visit their four sets of divorced parents at Christmas. Obviously for the characters in the film, they weren’t interested in my solution to that problem – moving overseas away from the divorcees! Then again, that scenario is hardly open to hilarious incidents in a movie format.

Spice Girls Grooming For World Tour

spicegirls.jpg
The Spice Girls just added three new dates to their tour – and ten hair and make up people!

“There’s so much competition between the girls. They all want to look their best so each of them brought in their own separate team. It’s hilarious - and completely over the top. Why can’t they just share like in the old days?” the Mirror quoted the source, as saying.

The band of aids include 10 hair stylists and make-up artists, plus fitness trainers and nutrition experts, as well as personal assistants, managers and security guards.

“It’s a far cry from the old days when they had one make-up artist and a hairdresser between them,” the source said.

However, a band spokesman insisted: “It’s normal for each girl to have a team.”

The Times Of India

I think it’s appropriate to have a team for each Spice - there’s five of them, so it would take hours to groom them for public viewing. Also rumored to be on the Spice Train is clothing designer Donatella Versace. A source describes her as being “a big fan of the girls back in the day.”

Reports in today’s papers claimed the Spice Girls had found their much-needed fairy style godmother in the shape of Donatella Versace, who was said to be designing £200,000-worth of designer stage outfits for their comeback reunion tour - but a spokesperson for Versace has denied that this is the case. “It’s simply not true,” he told us. “I have no idea where the rumours have come from.”

Vogue

I guess it makes sense to have so many more stylists and trainers on hand then before – the girls have put on a few years! But what we all really want to know is – does Ginger have her Union Jack dress back yet? I’m sure Donatella could knock up another, but a new dress just isn’t the same as vintage. Besides, it’s kind of like your wedding dress. Every few years you try it on to see how much weight you’ve gained. Admit it, we all do it. I’m surprised Geri didn’t want to keep it for that purpose alone.

L’oreal bitch-slapped for fake eyelashes in Penelope Cruz ad

cruzfalsies.jpg
Thanks to a discerning consumer who complained about a mascara ad featuring Penelope Cruz wearing fake eyelashes, Loreal has been ordered to add a disclaimer to all commercials for mascara that include falsies:

L’Oréal has been condemned for producing “misleading” mascara adverts featuring Penelope Cruz.

The TV and magazine adverts boasted that women could have up to 60 per cent longer eyelashes with its Telescopic mascara.

The Hollywood star’s voice promised: “Lashes that could reach for the stars.”

But a sharp-eyed viewer suspected the actress was wearing false lashes to exaggerate the length of eyelid hair produced by the product.

She protested to the Advertising Standards Authority, who upheld her complaint.

It found the TV commercial misleading and said the magazine advert failed to be accurate and true. During the investigation, the French company admitted that the star had been wearing individual false lashes.

The ASA has ordered L’Oréal to add a disclaimer to future adverts whenever models are shown wearing false lashes.

[The Daily Mail]

I have a lot of problems finding good mascara, and have often been annoyed at the obvious use of fake lashes in those ads. Good for that woman for doing something about it! Maybe the cosmetic companies will think twice about using fake lashes in their ads from now on.

Is it just me or are most drug store mascaras crap? Whenever I try a new brand, like Maybelline Define-A-Lash with the nifty silicone brush, they results are usually clumpy and/or too sparse. I get my hopes up occasionally and try a new mascara and am always disappointed. I usually find a brand and stick to it for years. Right now I’m using Max Factor 2,000 Calorie, which is more expensive in Europe so I buy it online at Drugstore.com and have a year’s supply shipped to my parent’s house in the states. I also used to like Loreal’s Lash Out. Here’s a good list from Fab Sugar of the best drug store mascaras.

Uma Thurman needs a little more makeup, self esteem

There have been some recent statements by 36 year-old Uma Thurman that make it sound like she’s a little depressed as she gets older and her sex symbol status diminishes. She supposedly said that guys don’t hit on her, but I would suspect that quote is made up since the wording sounds decidedly British and I can’t find a source:

Men rarely chat me up, if I’m honest. And certainly not the right sort. ‘I’m not sure what the right sort is, although cheesy chat-up lines definitely don’t work on me. I’ve heard quite a few of those. The worst has to be, ‘Hey, has anyone ever told you that you look like Uma Thurman?’

And she’s also bemoaned her “sagging” body, which still looks great. This was also reported in a British magazine, but the quote sounds a little more realistic to me:

‘I really like the gym but I never find time to go when I’m working,’ she tells The Mail On Sunday.

‘I work and then I have my personal life with my kids, so I am left with an ever-softening body… my ever-sagging body.’

That just happens when you get older, but why sweat it when you still look better than 90% of the women in your age bracket? Thurman is gorgeous, she just needs to work it a little more and hire a makeup artist before she goes to events. She’s using crappy mascara here that doesn’t even cover her lashes, just a smudge of eyeliner, and she doesn’t even seem to have foundation on. Many celebrities look too made up before events, or they do it poorly themselves with a heavy hand like Gwyneth Paltrow, but Thurman looks like she spent five minutes in front of the mirror applying less than the basics and just said ‘f it.

Thurman is shown at 5th Annual Women of Discovery Awards in New York on 3/1/07. Pictures from Gossip Rocks.

Penelope Cruz, Rachel Weisz, Jessica Biel & Eva Longoria

The only dress that I find striking in this group is Jessica Biel’s. She looks gorgeous in this simple white beaded dress with clean lines and a flattering cut. Her upswept hair, understated makeup, and matching earrings all compliment the look perfectly.

Penelope Cruz is lovely as usual, but I’m not digging her her southern belle of a black dress.

Eva Longoria doesn’t look bad, but her eye makeup is overdone and I don’t like the beading or the shape of her dress.

Rachel Weisz needs some more accessories to go with this monochromatic dress, and she should work it a little more on the red carpet.

I am sitting here in jeans and a tank top, and am in no way qualified to judge these gorgeous women, or any of the other celebrities I diss on a daily basis.

Renee Zellwegger, Beyonce, Cate Blanchett & Jennifer Love Hewitt

Is there such a thing as a facial expression coach? Surely there are acting coaches who can help celebrities perfect their smile for the red carpet. You know who I’m referring to - poor lemon face Renee Zellwegger. She’s just got to train herself to stop making that sour pout. Her dress, undoubtedly Carolina Herrera, is safe and decent. She looks like she’s going to a cocktail party instead of an awards ceremony.

And Beyonce is ready to play Vegas in that metallic number. Somehow Cate Blanchett makes that lace assymetric black dress with the skinny belt work. She takes calculated fashion risks and unlike - say, Gwen Stefani, she usually pulls them off.

Jennifer Love Hewitt looks like she’s going to the prom in that copper number with the big bow, but I have to say her hair and makeup look gorgeous. It looks like smoky metallic eyes and neutral lips are in. Cameron Diaz didn’t get the memo.

Four Nailpolish Colors That Look Fab on Everyone

If it’s been a while since you’ve updated your nailpolish wardrobe, try these four fun shades by OPI. They look good on nearly everyone, and will keep you in style from winter through spring.

Lincoln Park After Dark
This is a cult hit, and a color even my son thinks “looks cool”. I recently went to a holiday party wearing this shade on my hands and both a mom and her teenage daughter asked me for the name of this shade. The daughter said it’s very much like the black polish all the girls are wearing at school, but this looks classier. Her mom agreed. Lincoln Park After Dark is actually a super dark purple-black shade that makes you look trendy and glamorous, without the risk of looking like an emo.

I’m Not Really a Waitress
This is my favorite red polish ever. It’s blue-based, so it looks equally striking on dark skin as it does on light skin. Try it on your toes, I applied mine nearly two weeks ago and it still hasn’t chipped or lost it’s shine.

Chicago Champagne Toast
The most perfect neutral everyday polish. Works great for the office as well as for evenings or just hanging around the house. It matches nearly every outfit you might wear.

A Rose at Dawn….Broke by Noon
My daughter Zee picked this one out herself and I’m glad she introduced me to it. It’s a really fun pink, looks great on both your hands and toes. The pink looks bright in the bottle, but trust me, it’s not the type of color reserved only for teenagers going to the prom. My daughter, even though she’s only two, asked me to put this on her nails when we brought it home, she was so excited about it. (They don’t wear polish all the time, but once in while I let them, just for fun.) My skin is several shades darker than hers and it looked equally nice on me. Overall, it’s a really fun pink, and doesn’t look tacky or “too young” at all.

You can find OPI nailpolishes at most Trade Secrets, but there’s a website that sells all of them at a discount. Visit OPIDiva.com and save a dollar off retail per bottle. If you’re planning to buy at 6 or more bottles, the dollar savings per bottle can add up to a free bottle of nailpolish.

Note by Celebitchy: This post can also be found at Chic Mommy’s blog, and is published here under a content share agreement. We are not affiliated with OPI or OPIdiva.com and have received no incentive to promote them.
