Dakota Fanning on her banned perfume ad: ‘Why are you making it about [sex]?’

Dakota Fanning

Dakota Fanning covers the March issue of Glamour, and I think we’re supposed to look at this shoot and realize that she’s all grown up now that Dakota will turn nineteen years old next month. Still, it seems a little bit skeevy that this cover features a belly shirt with a Mickey Mouse figure emblazoned across the chest. So the message here is sexy but still very young, right?

The rest of the shoot doesn’t send as many mixed messages as the cover, but it’s still difficult to see Dakota looking so mature since we haven’t seen her onscreen since she was still technically a child. I don’t think Breaking Dawn Part 2 counts as an adult appearance since Dakota shot her scenes well over a year ago. Don’t get me wrong though — she does look lovely in this Glamour editorial, and I’m more comfortable with Dakota doing an “iffy” shoot with Glamour than when she covered Cosmo last year amidst sex-tip headlines.

In the Glamour interview, Dakota does make me scratch my head just a bit though. She talks about her Marc Jacobs “Oh, Lola!” perfume advert (the one where she held a flowery bottle between her legs) and how the United Kingdom banned the ad for being “sexually provocative.” Basically, Dakota thinks there’s something wrong with people’s minds who went there in the first place:

Dakota Fanning

On fame & fashion: “It’s really fun when you’re getting dressed for something. It’s not when you’re in the rain with an umbrella and trying to carry a case of water. Yep, that’s me, alone, coming from Duane Reade. I’m not wearing a bra. Deal with it.”

Was she surprised about her banned Marc Jacobs ad? “Yeah, I was! If you want to read something into a perfume bottle, then I guess you can. But it’s also like, Why are you making it about that, you creep? I love Marc and trust him, and we just laughed about it.”

Could she ever be a fashion designer? “I don’t think so. I mean, I won’t rule it out, because then one day I’ll be like, ‘I said that in Glamour in 2013, and here I am now [with my own line].’ But when you know designers and see the work that they put into making their collection, and how much passion they have for that–I think that’s so amazing. And I don’t have the passion to design clothes. It’s nice to be able to grow up and know what you want to do…. I’m reminded of that every time I make a film.”

On her little sister, Elle: “She’s very uninhibited and will try pretty much anything. Even the way she dresses– she dresses totally for herself. She risks being made fun of…by me, which I sometimes do, because I’m an older sister! But I totally admire her and think she’s very cool.”

[From Glamour]

Dakota’s really starting to come out of her shell, isn’t she? She recently defended Kristen Stewart by telling us all that we have no “authority to judge” her friend, and I get it. One wants to defend their girlfriends, so I’ll leave it at that. Now Dakota seems to lack perspective when she asserts that anyone who saw something pervy about a perfume bottle between her legs must be a “creep.” I mean, I still love Dakota. She’s a good girl, and she’s never been spotted drunkenly stumbling out of a nightclub or flashed her hoo-ha to the paparazzi, but still. That perfume ad was so gross.

Lady Gaga is pretty much the Statue of Liberty, says V Magazine

v67_cover_a_lr

V Magazine just sent us some stuff for their new issue, “The New York Issue.” Who best to represent New York in all of its glory? Marc Jacobs and Lady Gaga of course. But they couldn’t just do interesting photos of Marc and Gaga, of course. They had to do Gaga as the Statue of Liberty, of course. Now, I was on board for Gaga being a representation of NYC, but to place her as Lady Liberty – ugh. Listen to the reasoning:

Quote from editor STEPHEN GAN:
“Just as the Statue of Liberty was France’s gift to America, Gaga is, to us, New York’s greatest gift to pop culture and fashion. She embodies everything V is about, and is also a beacon of the city’s creativity and hope. Exactly one year after her first V cover (the first fashion magazine cover she was on), we decided to do the NEW YORK issue, and she was the first person who came to mind to represent our great city. In the year that’s passed, she has become a bonafide genius and we can safely declare her our muse. Above all, a New York issue should celebrate people who’ve done great things. We at V are grateful Gaga came along to put the New back in New York!”

[From V Magazine]

Okay. Sure. Maybe V readers will applaud this decision. You know I love Gaga and everything, but I would like to see a moratorium on Gaga magazine covers until she puts out her new album. It’s only a few months away – can we all agree to wait until January? Please? Oh, and there’s this too:

Lady Liberty in a shopping cart. Sure, it’s New York. V Mag also sent some of the other photos from their tribute to New Yorkers. I just loved this one because of Chloe Sevigny’s face… my goodness.

Bratz coloring books & Marc Jacobs got Lil Kim through prison

Marc Jacobs

In one of the stranger pairings in Hollywood, Marc Jacobs and Lil’ Kim are good friends. They have similar taste in fashion, and in 2005 Marc designed teeshirts featuring Kim’s face to benefit The Door, a program for at-risk kids in New York. Kim has credited The Door for helping get through her own childhood.

Marc also proved his friendship during Lil’ Kim 10-month stint in prison, sending her letters every week. Kim, a fan of the Bratz dolls, sent him pictures from a Bratz coloring book decorated with Marc Jacobs clothing. When he received the present, he blew up the images and hung them in his home.

Lil’ Kim: Rapper, fashion provocateur, jailbird, and, now, artist. With her work hanging in Marc Jacobs’ home, no less. The pint-size star, cutting the rug these days on ABC’s “Dancing With the Stars,” says that while she was serving 10 months in jail on perjury charges in 2006, Jacobs’ letters helped keep her going.

“He’s one of my best friends and was actually a huge supporter when I was in prison,” she said in an interview with StyleList.com. “He wrote me every week! “I decided to buy a coloring book – I’m a huge Bratz fan – and I painted the Bratz and made them all wear Marc Jacobs, and sent it to him. He blew it up and framed it, and now it’s hanging in his house. So Marc Jacobs is the best.”

Lil’ Kim and Jacobs are long-time pals. In 2005 Jacobs announced he was designing T-shirts featuring huge photographs of Kim to benefit The Door, a New York non-profit that helps at-risk youths with everything from health care to homework. Kim said at the time that The Door had helped her while she was growing up in Brooklyn.

[From Style List]

I never thought that Marc Jacobs had a particularly traditional design sense, but this is truly original. A large picture from a Bratz coloring book decorated by Lil’ Kim while in jail – certainly a conversation-starter.

It would be great to see the two of them collaborate again. They both have very unique and fashion-forward looks, and come from different parts of the entertainment industry. Think about it: “Home Accessories by Kim and Marc.” What do you guys think? What should these two collaborate on?

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs likely engaged to boyfriend

nyf alice and olivia 160209

Fashion designer Marc Jacobs has been called one of the most powerful gay men in America. Seriously, they make lists like that. As the head of his self-named clothing line – as well as the creative director of Louis Vuitton – Marc Jacobs has become that rare hybrid celebrity fashion designer. He has famous friends (Winona Ryder, Sofia Coppola) and he’s had enough scandals to drown a lesser man.

Could a guy like this settle down? Maybe, maybe not. Women’s Wear Daily (story via People) is reporting that Marc and his boyfriend of a year are engaged. People has more:

Rumors have been swirling in the fashion world for months, but Women’s Wear Daily is now reporting that Marc Jacobs is engaged to his ad executive boyfriend Lorenzo Martone.

The couple has been dating for roughly a year and are allegedly going public with the news tomorrow when they arrive in Martone’s homeland of Brazil wearing rings.

The couple is headed to Sao Paolo to celebrate the designer’s multi-brand store, which opened in January. The 45-year old designer has another reason to celebrate this week – he was just nominated for the CFDA womenswear designer of the year award.

[From People Magazine]

Oh, Marc is getting himself a hot Brazilian husband! Well done. It could totally be possible that the rings they were wearing were just accessories. Or commitment rings, or something like that. I find it charming that the goalpost for gay couples has been officially moved by People Magazine. Now even a mainstream magazine like People is getting into the “are they getting married?” speculation for gay couples, which is awesome.

Here are Marc Jacobs and Lorenzo Martone at New York Fashion Week on February 16th. Images thanks to WENN.com.

Designer Marc Jacobs marries boyfriend of just a few months (update: not true)

Controversial designer Marc Jacobs, who has been raising eyebrows recently with his radical body and attitude makeover, has married his boyfriend, Lorenzo Martone. The couple were joined in a civil union in France.

Marc Jacobs is a newlywed. The designer and his hot Brazilian love, Lorenzo Martone, were married in a civil solidarity pact Sunday in France. “He’s totally excited,” said an insider. “He said he’s head-over-heels in love with Lorenzo. His life is coming together now.” Civil solidarity pacts were instituted in France in 1999, but they are not legally binding. Jacobs isn’t taking his honeymoon yet – he’s busy with his show for New York Fashion Week in September.

[From Page Six]

Jacobs, whose design emporium is worth an estimated $5 billion, has radically changed his own looks and the style of his designs since dating Lorenzo. He began his career as a shy, schlubby shrinking violet with a belly and shaggy hair. Today, Marc is a darling of the NY party scene and has totally re-sculpted his body. He even personally recruited Posh Spice to represent his new line of avant garde clothing. Marc’s “I don’t give a f@#%” attitude is nearly as famous as his designs, and he and Lorenzo are often photographed partying with rock stars and actors. Congrats to the couple- and hopefully they will find time to take a real honeymoon.

Note by Celebitchy: I don’t pay a lot of attention to Marc Jacobs, but he was on/off with a former male prostitute named Jason Preston for years, and was seen out a lot with a guy named Austin A in March. How long has he been with this guy he just married? NY Mag pointed out that Lorenzo was first seen out with Marc around May. That would mean they’ve only been going out a for a few months. Hope they had a prenup.

Update by Celebitchy: This is not true according to his representatives, who say “There’s no truth to it at all. Marc did not get married–nor does he have any plans to.” [Thanks Roma!]
