Miley Cyrus performs for tweens in skintight leotard

U.S singer Miley Cyrus performs at the Rock in Rio Music Festival in Lisbon

The last we heard from Miley Cyrus she was saying that her music wasn’t shallow like other pop music and that she wasn’t a sellout. She also dissed the show Glee despite never having watched it and said “Honestly, musicals? I just can’t.”

In an earlier interview, Miley said she wasn’t going to college anytime soon and mentioned that her grandmother went to college at 62, so she had plenty of time. She also defended her racy new song and video, Can’t Be Tamed, by explaining “My song is clearly about breaking free and being out of a cage and being able to be truly who you are.”

Miley is showing us who she (thinks she) is by giving us her version of aggressive sexuality. It’s frankly disturbing to watch from a 17 year-old. At a concert in Lisbon over the weekend she wore a skintight tiny gold leotard. I guess it’s nothing new for a teen performing artists, but there’s still something so wrong about it. She’s pole danced and donned short shorts in several performances, so it’s nothing new from Miley, either.

On Saturday, 17-year-old Miley Cyrus performed in Lisbon, Portugal for an excited crowd of kids, tweens and teens.

Her outfit? A skimpy, skintight olive-colored leotard plus studded leather jacket and black high-heeled peep toe boots.

The ensemble is an envelope-pushing follow-up to the $25,000 silver-scale corset and dress she wore in the music video for “Can’t Be Tamed,” which premiered earlier this month.

At the Lisbon show, she sang her song “Full Circle,” a paen to her ex-boyfriend Nick Jonas. “It’s about two people,” she said. “They’re always gonna come back together no matter what anyone says or the bad people that try to keep you apart. Surprise surprise, it’s about a Jonas brother…you didn’t hear that.” Cyrus is currently dating her The Last Song costar Liam Hemsworth.

[From US Weekly]

So is Miley back with Nick Jonas? Does she see him as her fallback boyfriend, the one who will always be there for her when she ends another relationship? We always got the feeling that Nick hurt her something fierce, but we also think that Miley is all about Liam Hemsworth, her current hunky Aussie boyfriend. The girl is 17, she has no clue. I guess I also thought I was different and tough sh*t when I was 17, but no one was around to pay attention to me except my tolerant parents. They kept me in check, unlike Miley’s mom and dad who think that they’re her friends first. That’s how you end up with a daughter with camel toe on stage telling the world that she’s different. No, she’s just 17 and Miley.

Miley Cyrus hates ‘Glee’: “Honestly, musicals? I just can’t.”

107952-miley_cyrus_brian-bowen-smith_617_409

Miley Cyrus is the current cover girl for Billboard Magazine. I actually wasn’t aware that Billboard was an actual magazine publication, I thought it just a newsletter and a site, so I learned something new today. The whole piece (online here) is all about Miley’s strategic corporate move away from teeny-bopper to legit adult pop star, although Miley is still talking sh-t about pop music in general, and repeating the claim that she “doesn‘t listen” to pop music. But the quote that is drawing the most attention is her disrespect of Fox’s hit TV show Glee. Miley snots: “Honestly, musicals? I just can’t. What if this was real life and I was just walking down the street on Rodeo Drive and all of a sudden I just burst into song about how much I love shoes?” Um… so I didn’t watch Hannah Montana, but isn’t that exactly what Hannah Montana was like? Or am I wrong?

On aging before our eyes: “I’m just at a certain place where I’ve changed a lot as a person,” she says. “I’ve grown up a lot, which everyone does.”

On the gigantic birdcage in her “Can‘t Be Tamed” video: “You’re going to, like, die when you see the birdcage in the video because it’s so crazy,” she says. Despite Cyrus’ march into adulthood, she still talks like a teenager-all rapid-fire patter that, by my transcribing tally, comes in at around 200 words per minute. “I’ve got, like, 30 dancers in there and a tree and a nest. Literally, it’s out of control. I’m definitely going to be doing a lot more stuff like that.”

On how her music isn‘t “shallow”: “I listen to zero pop music, which is really weird for someone who makes pop music,” Cyrus says, noting that the first concert she ever went to was Poison. (She covers “Every Rose Has Its Thorn” with Bret Michaels doing backing vocals on the album.) “My 13-year-old self would have beaten up my 17-year-old self because she would be like, ‘You’re a sellout!’ But that’s not what it is. It’s not dance music that’s just about, ‘Ooh, I’m in the club and everyone’s looking at me.’ It means something. I’m not just sitting here trying to sell glitz and glamour…because no one lives that life. A lot of [pop] songs are super shallow, but this music isn’t.”

On her busy schedule: “It’s hard when you’re doing a show and you’re going to London for two days and then you come back and you’re doing the show again,” she says. “I can kind of bounce around everywhere and I don’t really have something that’s tying me back here.”

On Lady Gaga: “Unlike a lot of artists, all her music does mean something to her personally.”

On the comparisons between Hannah Montana and Glee, which she doesn‘t watch: A big part of the appeal of she can’t quite find it in herself to suspend her belief enough to watch “Glee” even though the show featured “The Climb” in a recent episode. “Honestly, musicals? I just can’t. What if this was real life and I was just walking down the street on Rodeo Drive and all of a sudden I just burst into song about how much I love shoes?” She pauses for a second, and then laughs. “It would get hits on YouTube.”

[From Billboard]

Personally, my favorite STFU quote is “A lot of [pop] songs are super shallow, but this music isn’t.” Oh, Miley. You are the very definition of shallow. And that’s when we’re being kind! I always go back and forth on Miley – I think she’s improved so much, even in just the past year that I’ve been following her interviews with any regularity, she’s gotten smarter and more interesting. But she thinks the whole world revolves around her – typical teenage bullsh-t, actually, except that everyone is agreeing with her, “Yes, Miley, everything does revolve around you!”

Miley Cyrus says she’s not going to college

fp_5056442_cyrus_mandy_riv_
There’s been some speculation as to whether 17 year-old Miley Cyrus will put her career on hold in order to attend college. Miley’s dad Billy Ray went to Georgetown College in Kentucky on a basketball scholarship, but from what I can tell he never graduated. I can’t find any information on whether her mom, Tish, went to college, which makes me assume that she didn’t.

In December, 2008, Miley said she was interested in studying photography at an art school London, having been introduced to the field by famed photographer Annie Leibovitz. She said “That’s what I want to do with my life. I would love to be a photographer.” Around that same time, Miley also said she wanted her show Hannah Montana to last as long as possible, so it’s not like she hasn’t since changed her mind about her career and education.

We heard earlier this year that Brooke Shields, a Princeton graduate, was trying to get Miley to consider college to broaden her horizons. Brooke knows Miley after doing some cameos as Miley’s deceased mom on Hannah Montana.

All of Brooke’s efforts have probably been for naught, though. Miley told a radio station that she’s not going to bother going to college at this point. She noted that she had plenty of time as her grandmother went back to college at 62. The girl is 17 and has no clue what she’s going to be missing. College is not the same even 5-10 years later, although maybe if she waited until she was 22 she would take it more seriously.

Don’t expect to see Miley Cyrus scouting any college campuses this summer.

“My sister went to MTSU in Nashville, so I’d probably want to be there with all my friends, but I’m not gonna go to college right now,” Cyrus, 17, told Q100′s Bert Show Monday morning. “I am a firm believer that you can go back at any age you want, because my grandma went back to college at 62 years old.”

The “Can’t Be Tamed” singer is growing up in more ways than one, even if her critics still see her as a little girl.

“No one ever wants to see someone grow up,” she complains. “It’s like when Hilary Duff started growing up off the Disney Channel. Everyone thought she was anorexic and she did this and that. It’s just because she grew up! She didn’t look like a 12-year-old anymore.”

And though she’s beginning to step out of Hannah Montana’s shadow, Cyrus doesn’t understand the controversy surrounding her latest music video (in which she wears a $25,000 corset).

“My song is clearly about breaking free and being out of a cage and being able to be truly who you are,” Cyrus says. “If you see Hannah Montana through that, or are mad because you don’t, turn on Disney Channel. That’s where my show is. My show is still on the air. I’m not done doing Hannah Montana…your true fans are gonna love the artist when they express themselves.”

Two men who aren’t sad to see her grow up? Current boyfriend Liam Hemsworth and singer Justin Bieber.

“I have my travel-size boyfriend [Bieber] and I have my oversized security boyfriend [Hemsworth],” she jokes of the young men. “It’s perfect!

[From US Weekly]

Miley was recently spotted in a red polka dot bikini on the beach in Mexico with her dad. (We don’t have the rights to those photos, but you can see them here.) She’s currently on a world tour promoting her album, so it’s not like she has a lot of time to go to college even if she was interested. Do you think Miley’s parents and handlers would even support her taking four years off to study? She’s making money for them hand over fist and in four years she’ll be old news. I bet that everyone around her is telling her that she doesn’t need to go to school because they need her to keep working in order to keep their jobs.

Was Miley Cyrus’s insane DWTS performance censored?

*Miley’s performance starts at the 10 second mark. This was the highest quality video I could find, and it includes Christina Aguilera too, so I’m sorry. Some SPOILERS below if you haven’t seen last night’s DWTS yet*

Sometimes I’m so happy that I watch scripted dramas for the most part. While I was busy watching NCIS (which was good, and I was all “ZOMG did they kill Mike Franks?!?”), everybody else was watching Chad Ochocinco get kicked off. Who really cares about that, though? Because when you have an hour to fill on a dancing competition, why not bring in Miley Cyrus for a very special caged-bird routine? Honestly, I guess this performance wasn’t that so different from her video for the same song, “Can’t Be Tamed”. Although hearing it live – ouch – and seeing Miley perform takes the already-sketchy “whory bird” concept to a new level.

Many are asking aloud if Miley’s already vaguely not-safe-for-primetime performance was edited or censored. There are a few rough cuts and weird edits by the cameras, so it’s possible that Miley thought her performance would be made better by some Adam Lambert-esque grinding and motor-boating. There was even discussion that Miley was told by DWTS producers days ago to keep her performance clean.

Two more points: Miley’s legs are insane! I know she’s young and I complain about her Daisy Duke shorts and all, but her legs are really amazing, and she knows it. Second point: Does this performance remind anyone else of Paula Abdul’s video for “Cold-Hearted Snake”? Like, Miley is doing “Cold-Hearted Snake”… with feathers.

Billy Ray Cyrus defends Miley’s grinding dance, she was “just having fun”

vf

The news came out on Tuesday that somewhere, someone had a video of Miley Cyrus giving some dude a lap dance at the wrap party for The Last Song, last year when Miley was just 16 years old. Hours later, Wednesday morning, TMZ got the footage of this “lap dance”… and it was anticlimactic, to say the least. Sure, we were surprised to see just how well Miley could grind up on a 44-year-old gay dude (her friend, producer Adam Shankman), or how she really had no qualms about rubbing her 16-year-old ass on this or any 44-year-old. But it wasn’t a “lap dance” and it wasn’t some massive scandal, in my opinion. Inappropriate? Sure. But sh-t happens, and in the Cyrus family, if the scandal only goes to “inappropriate” it’s a good day. That‘s exactly what Billy Ray thinks too. He tells TMZ that “It’s what people her age do” and she was “just having fun”. Here’s the video, once again:

Just fun? I guess. But this one is still going to be a massive amount of trouble once she reaches 18. Mark my words. Other people have equally mixed sentiments. Apparently, CNN’s Rick Sanchez (that jackass who got famous for being tasered by some cops for a news segment) went off on Miley, preaching “Could I just speak for a moment as a father and as someone who has an eight-year-old?…That’s troublesome. And just the physicality of it alone and the fact that she’s 16-years-old. And this isn’t posing for a Hollywood magazine or a picture, because we understand that when you get into that arena, you got to play along with that game kind of thing. I am troubled viewing that.” Ashton Kutcher defended Miley on his Twitter, of course, blasting Sanchez: “ur [sic] comments on Miley R completely unwarranted. She’s 17. What is this the movie Footloose? judgment is unbecoming.”

Lainey at LainGossip actually defended Miley too, writing, in part: “She was rubbing up her ass against a dude with no chance of him popping one for her. In other words what you do with your best ‘mo every weekend. I do it with my best ‘mo standing in line at the movies. And in many ways, there’s nothing more secure. Especially for a 16 year old girl who is expressing herself to the music and wants to do so without fear of someone taking advantage of her. Trust me when I tell you other teens are doing way worse in the basement.

Miley Cyrus’s “lap dance” video released – it’s not that scandalous

SPL108754_004

Yesterday, Radar had the scoop that “someone” had a video of a 16-year-old Miley Cyrus giving a 44-year-old gay film producer a “grinding” lap dance. This all took place at the wrap party for The Last Song last summer. I didn’t really doubt that the video existed, or that Miley did in fact give a dude a lap dance, and it looks like both were true. TMZ got a hold of the video (or part of the video, since this thing looks edited). Here it is, courtesy of TMZ:

My first reaction was “This is totally not as scandalous as Radar made it seem”. The party seems very crowded, and it doesn’t even seem like many people are paying any attention to Miley at first. Of course, then she climbs on a chair and rubs her ass on a 44-year-old dude, so people start paying attention. So… it is pretty gross when you think about it. I don’t care if Adam Shankman is gay – why in the world is a 44-year-old man dancing with a 16-year-old like that? Also – this is not Miley’s first time at the lap dance rodeo, even though I don’t consider this particular instance a “lap dance”. It’s more like some gross, underage dirty dancing, I guess. There is grinding. There is a lot of hip action. And she’s good at it, and she’s done it many times before. TMZ reports that “We’re told Miley’s parents were not at the wrap party. Miley’s reps had no comment.” I can’t see how Miley’s parents would object, seriously. What are they going to do? Take away the stripper pole she had installed in her house, where she’s now living alone?

Miley Cyrus gave a dude a grinding lap dance, and someone filmed it

SPL108754_004

Of course, right? My question is, what took so long? How is Miley Cyrus only now involved in some sort of videotaped lap dance scandal? And as far as underage lap dance scandals go, this one doesn’t even seem half as bad as it could be. First of all, the whole “lap dance” took place last summer, at the wrap party for The Last Song. So… Miley was still 16 years old. Still, not surprising. Next, she was giving the lap dance to the film’s producer, Adam Shankman. Some may remember Shankman from another incident that occurred when he and Miley were working together last summer – he posted photos of Miley humping a chair on his Twitter. Oh, and he’s gay. Just in case you thought he might get off on having an underage girl give him a lap dance. He was probably hoping for a Liam Hemsworth lap dance. Here’s more from the “scandal”.

Disney star Miley Cyrus created waves last year when provocative photos were posted of her giving a lap dance to The Last Song producer Adam Shankman, but RadarOnline.com has learned that the photos were just the beginning — video exists that is much more suggestive!

“The video was taken about seven months ago at a wrap party for The Last Song,” the source exclusively told RadarOnline.com. “The worst part is that there were little kids at the party and the dancing between Miley and Adam was so dirty that some of the parents actually left the party and took their kids home.”

The video, which RadarOnline.com has seen, shows Shankman on the dance floor with a drink in hand grinding up against Cyrus’ backside while she grinds back. At one point Cyrus turns around and seductively opens the top layer of her shirt, teasing Shankman with her flirty dance moves.

Although Shankman is an openly gay man, sources tell RadarOnline.com that the dancing was “very inappropriate” and they fear that Cyrus, 17, is “heading down the same path as Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.”

In a second clip to the video, Cyrus is seen giving Shankman a lap dance while children under the age of 10 sit less than five feet away watching the Hannah Montana star, and neither her mother Tish nor father Billy Ray were present at the party sources tell RadarOnline.com.

“Miley is a sweet angel who works tirelessly and endlessly, and is allowed to have fun in the make up room!” Shankman said last year, defending the photos he posted of Miley giving him a lap dance on Twitter. “Lighten up or no more behind the scenes pics! She’s my little angel sister.”

[From Radar]

Eh. This all happened almost a year ago! Why all of the fears that Miley is “heading down the same path as Lindsay Lohan and Britney Spears.” I mean, sure, I’ve thought that Miley could totally head down those paths too, but Miley keeps impressing me with her new-found maturity (and I’m not joking). Liam has been a good influence on her. Now, going back to the whole dirty dancing/grinding in front of children stuff… yeah. That’s inappropriate. But this is the same girl who danced on a stripper pole at the Kids Choice Awards. It’s not like Miley has any sort of sense of what is and is not appropriate. The whole family is oblivious.

Miley Cyrus on her racy new video: my mom was there, dad was “so proud”

There was some minor controversy last week over the sexy new video for Miley Cyrus’ latest single, “Can’t Be Tamed.” It featured Miley as some kind of bird in a cage dancing around in a corset with trailing feathers and strappy boots. It was too sexualized for a 17 year-old, but it looked more like something a high school student would put on Facebook if they had a video camera and costume budget. I see how this is over the top and too much, and I also see a teenage girl just trying too hard to look sexy, which is nothing new. It’s kind of painful to watch, and someone should have stepped in and told Miley that this didn’t work for Britney and it wouldn’t work for her. She needs some guidance, but according to Miley she was given free reign to “be herself,” and her mom was right there with her on set. Her dad saw the video and gave his approval too. I guess when your daughter is bringing in millions a month you want to make her happy, not that Tish and Billy Ray would ever think it’s inappropriate for their daughters to express themselves by gyrating around in tiny outfits.

Miley recently announced plans to take a break from music and focus on her acting career, but she isn’t planning to abandon it altogether. “I think [my fans have] a lot to look forward to in music as well,” she teased.

For right now, Miley fans can enjoy her spicy new song and video, which she says got full approval from her parents.

“My mom was on set,” she said of the edgy video. “And my dad loves it, because I think my dad was thinking I was a little crazy as I was writing it. When you see it, they were so proud of the treatment I came up with.”

Plus, she thinks the video is pretty spot-on to who she is as a person. “I think it definitely shows a change of what people remember me as, but it’s not trying to not be me,” Cyrus said. “I didn’t want to be just a character. I wanted to be myself and just in a bird-like form in the way I dressed.”

[From MTV]

So in the video Miley is “not trying to not be me.” She’s just trying to figure out who that is, and it’s really uncomfortable to watch. Remember how much of a controversy those backless Vanity Fair photos of Miley Cyrus draped in a sheet were two years ago when she was just 15? It came out that photographer Annie Liebovitz convinced Miley to put on the sheet and take the arguably provocative photos after her parents left. Fast forward to 2010 and it’s Miley who is convincing her parents and handlers to let her give us her version of “sexy.” Just like Annie Liebovitz, someone should have told Miley “no.”

Miley Cyrus’s video for “Can’t Be Tamed”: inappropriate or fancy art?

miley-cyrus-sexy-video

I saw this on E! this morning. Miley Cyrus has a new video for her new song, “Can’t Be Tamed” and it’s… like, old-school Britney? That’s what it reminded me of, honestly – the kind of video Britney would have made circa 2004. This video has everything: crazy bird fetishes, a gigantic cage that anyone could get out of, cage dancers, chomping and crotch shots. But is it no longer shocking now that Miley Cyrus is 17 years old? I mean, are still pretending that she’s an innocent child who doesn’t have any idea how sexualized her image is? Here’s the video:

Funny story: As I was just playing this video, listening to the song as I wrote, my dog started crying. My dog has excellent taste in music.

Anyway, I don’t really see the sense in bashing Miley for this video. Did I find it appropriate for a 17-year-old actress and singer and tween icon? Not really, but it didn’t totally offend me either. Mostly, I just wonder how she’ll top her “$25,000 silver-scale corset and dress made from 2,400 metal pieces and peacock feathers” and her “dirty black angel wings”. Ugh.

Miley Cyrus “wants to marry” boyfriend Liam when she turns 18
Miley Cyrus and Liam Hemsworth at the Los Angeles premiere of The Last Song

Yesterday, we heard about Miley Cyrus’s new home, just minutes away from her parents’ house in California. Miley talked about how cool it was going to be to live on her own, and how her mom was going to decorate everything, and how her new “Zen” pad would be open to all. I theorized that once Miley was ensconced in her new bachelorette pad, she would quickly move in boyfriend Liam Hemsworth. She’s in love, y’all, and by all accounts, the Cyrus family already allows Liam to spend the night in the family home. Anyway, it looks like things just got a tad more complicated – OK Magazine is reporting that Miley has her heart set on marrying Liam, not just shacking up with him:

Miley Cyrus is so in love with co-star Liam Hemsworth that she’s planning to marry him — even though she’s only known him 10 months!

“She’s convinced she’ll spend the rest of her life with him,” says a source about the teenager’s surprising determination to get married this year. “She’s talking about a wedding as soon as she turns 18. She’s even asked her mom if she can wear her wedding dress.”

“He is awesome,” Miley gushed about her 20-year-old beau during an appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live. “We hang out almost every day. He’s almost become like my best friend.”

In fact, she’s so serious about Liam that she even flew out to Australia to meet his family and Liam’s met the Cyrus clan too!

“The whole family are great,” he tells OK!. “They’re really good people.”

But is their relationship too much, too soon?

[From OK Magazine]

I want to believe that Miley isn’t the girl who meets a dude at the age of 17 and starts talking about getting married. But she could be. I can’t see how Liam would agree to it though – he seems to have a pretty decent head on his shoulders (sort of… I mean, he‘s dating Miley after all), and I would guess he could talk Miley down.

In one other piece of Miley news, it seems Miley is going to be working with Demi Moore on this horrible film project called LOL. Demi tweeted the news (of course) this morning, writing “Starting a film in July with Miley called LOL… Remake with the same director.” Apparently, LOL was a French film (directed by Lisa Azuelos) starring Sophie Marceau as a mom dealing with lots of issues with her daughter. So, Demi is playing Miley’s mom. Ridiculous. They look nothing alike.
