Enquirer: Morgan Freeman had decade-long affair with step-granddaughter

This is just… gross. I want to believe this isn’t true… but the National Enquirer has been getting some of these stories right lately. So, here goes. The National Enquirer is reporting that Morgan Freeman has been engaged in a decade-long affair with his step-granddaughter. The 27-year-old woman’s name is E’Dena Hines and she’s not related to him by blood. She is the granddaughter of Morgan’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, and Morgan and his second wife, Myrna, helped to raise E’Dena when she was little.

The Enquirer’s sources are saying that Morgan’s affair with E’Dena is what ended his marriage to Myrna. When Morgan first began putting the moves on her, E’Dena went to Myrna and told her what had happened - that E’Dena and Morgan had gone to dinner, got a little drunk, and that Morgan had tried to have sex with her. When Myrna confronted Morgan, he promised it would never happen again. And yet, shortly afterward, Morgan and E’Dena started their decade-long affair. E’Dena was even Morgan’s date for several public events - but she was always introduced as his granddaughter:

WORLD EXCLUSIVE BOMBSHELL: Oscar winner’s Morgan Freeman’s decade-long affair with his step - GRANDDAUGHTER, a family insider told The ENQUIRER.

Morgan Freeman has been having a nearly decade-long affair with his step-granddaughter - a scandalous charge that has emerged in the bitter divorce battle between the acclaimed actor and his wife Myrna, says a source.

The relationship between the 72-year-old actor with step-granddaughter E’Dena Hines, 27, began when she was a teen, the source told The ENQUIRER exclusively. The alleged affair not only contributed to his split from Myrna, his wife of 25 years, it also led to his breakup with his longtime mistress, former schoolteacher Mary Joyce Hays.

E’Dena is the granddaughter of Morgan’s first wife, Jeanette Adair Bradshaw, and was raised by Morgan and Myrna “since she was a little girl,” the source told The ENQUIRER.

“Myrna said E’dena told her that when she was a teenager, she and Morgan went to dinner at a friend’s house one evening. Both had been drinking, and when they returned home, Morgan attempted to have sex with her. They stopped just short of having intercourse,” the source, a close family insider, told The ENQUIRER.

“E’Dena explained to Myrna that she stopped Morgan from going any further.”

Myrna confronted Morgan, and he agreed to leave E’Dena alone - but unbeknownst to Myrna, the relationship continued for years, said the source.

E’Dena has also been Morgan’s escort to several public events, including last summer’s premiere of the blockbuster Bat-flick hit, The Dark Knight.

“Nobody thought anything of it, because she would be introduced as his ‘granddaughter.’ The family insider divulged.

“It’s not technically incest, because they are not related by blood…[but] Morgan is trying desperately to keep his divorce out of open court so all the shameful facts won’t become public.”

[From The National Enquirer]

It sounds like the National Enquirer’s sources are coming from Myrna’s camp, doesn’t it? The best situation - in my mind - would be if this was some sort of sick ploy by some clever divorce lawyer. But I’m really afraid there might be something to it. If E’Dena is 27 years old now, and they have engaged in an “affair” for ten years, that means she and Morgan were having sex since she was seventeen. Add to that the fact that Morgan and E’Dena are related by marriage and that he helped raise her since she was a kid, and I just don’t see any way that this young woman isn’t some sort of victim who is most likely really screwed up over this whole situation. I’m truly praying that the Enquirer has it wrong.

Morgan Freeman: Pres. Obama ‘can lose the Chicago strut’

obamamorganfreeman
The most enjoyable part about June’s Vogue Magazine(the one with Cameron Diaz on the cover) is a wonderful little interview with Morgan Freeman. The intention of the piece is to preview Morgan’s work in general, but mostly about his role as Nelson Mandela in The Human Factor, currently being filmed in South Africa with Clint Eastwood as director. Early indications from the set indicated there were some issues - the insurance company demanded a full-time doctor to be on set in case either Morgan or Clint had health problems on the set.

Technically, this Vogue interview with Morgan was done before he left for South Africa, but the writer (John Powers) makes a note that Morgan called him from the South African set to tell him everything was going well. Freeman also talks about President Obama’s “Chicago strut” and the role that I would pay a kajillion dollars to see him play: the next Bond villain.

At 71, Morgan Freeman is Hollywood’s reigning icon of decency and preternatural calm. He’s the only actor in the world who, when he’s slumming, gets cast in the role of God. “With Him,” Freeman jokes, “you have to underplay.”

He’s about to embark on [a big challenge] - going to South Africa to produce and star in a big-budget Hollywood film about Nelson Mandela.

“If you are playing a living figure who’s revered by the world, you’ve got yourself a major, major undertaking. You’ve got to do this without embarrassing yourself, your audience, and especially Madiba [Mandela’s nickname]. Knowing that, you can be entirely too self-conscious. There are pitfalls, but I am going to be working with Clint.”

He’s referring, of course, to his good friend Clint Eastwood, who’s directing the film at Freeman’s request. “Morgan is just right for the role,” says Eastwood. “His stature in the acting world is like Mandela’s in his world.

(Eastwood’s confidence turns out to be well-founded. “Things are going fantastic here,” Freeman says, calling later from Johannesburg. “Everything has fallen into place. The thing that surprised me is how easy it’s been to adapt to being Mandela.”)

Freeman’s conversations ranges freely from his love of horses (he keeps five on his farm) to his admiration for our new president, which admits but a single qualification. “The thing I always want to tell Obama,” he says, “is ‘You can lose the Chicago strut - that little dip - and keep your hands out of your pockets.’”

Freeman knows that his own rise, like Obama’s was wildly improbable. He recalls being in L.A. half a century ago and not having a car. “There were times when I thought, This is where I’m going to be 20 or 30 years from now: walking the streets. The only thing I can say for myself is that I never sat down.”

[After] Mandela, what might this paragon take on next? “I’ve always wanted to be a James Bond villain,” Freeman says, eyes twinkling. “Bad guys have all the fun.”

[From Vogue Magazine, print edition, June]

Thinking about Morgan Freeman talking about Obama’s “Chicago strut” just kills me, I love it so much. You can tell that Morgan really feels strongly about Obama, but dagnabit, he’s still that boy’s elder, and Barack needs to take his hands out of his pockets. And stand up straight!

Regarding Morgan’s desire to play a Bond villain… will someone send this in to the Bond producers? Morgan Freeman must play a Bond villain. He would be wonderful. He sort of played a bad guy in last year’s Wanted, and after hearing him utter the words “shoot this motherf*cker”, I now want him to play a really nasty piece of work.

Morgan Freeman got dumped by his mistress

aviation awards 230109

Poor Morgan Freeman. First, he was in a serious car crash last year that injured him and his passenger. Now that passenger is suing him for negligence. Then, his wife of 24 years filed for divorce and stands to win a substantial alimony settlement. His new Broadway play, “The Country Girl,” is getting terrible reviews. And finally, sources say that Freeman’s long time mistress- the reason his marriage imploded - has also dumped him. Okay - maybe I don’t feel that sorry for him on that last one.

Morgan Freeman has been dumped by the mistress who broke up his marriage, The Enquirer has learned exclusively.

For four years, the 71-year-old star has been romantically involved with divorced former school-teacher Mary Joyce Hays, 60. Friends of the couple say they were headed for marriage after Morgan’s divorce was final, and Mary Joyce occasionally sported an engagement ring.

But they split up recently while Morgan was in New York performing on stage in “The Country Girl,” revealed a source close to the pair.

“Mary Joyce told me, ‘I broke up with Morgan. It’s definitely over.’”

Myrna Colley-Lee, Morgan’s wife of 24 years, filed for divorce last year after being separated from him since December of 2007.

But Mary Joyce insists that Morgan and Myrna had been living separate lives for a lot longer - at least 20 years, according to the close source.

“Mary Joyce told me, ‘I don’t think Myrna thought I was much of a threat. But she didn’t think it would turn into love.’”

The source said that Mary Joyce left Morgan because the actor no longer loved her, and she said: “He tried to push me away.”

[From The National Enquirer print version, March 23, 2009]

I really don’t understand why a man would choose to live in a sham of a marriage for 20 years while keeping a mistress on the side. I suppose he was worried about having to give up a chunk of his money, and that fear seems to be justified. But he probably has a lot more money to lose now than he did 20 years ago. Why not call it a day, get divorced and move on instead of going through the motions for 20 years? Life’s too short. Maybe his mistress dumping him and this lawsuit by another woman who is adamant that she isn’t his mistress are some sort of karmic retribution for the choice he made. But you know, for a 70 year old man, he sure is a player!

Clint Eastwood & Morgan Freeman need a full-time, on-set doctor

Even though it would be nice to view Morgan Freeman and Clint Eastwood as immortal, it’s not the case. Day by day, Clint Eastwood seems to be revealing himself as either a humorously out-of-touch casual racist from a bygone era or a truth-telling wise mahatma who simply is too old to care. Morgan Freeman, on the other hand, had his mortality tested last year when he got into a bad car accident with a woman who probably was not his mistress, but is very litigious.

Clint and Morgan are old friends, having worked together several times over the past two decades. When Clint was on “Inside the Actor’s Studio”, he alluded to the fact that they were friends even before they worked together, and Morgan probably has a great affection for Clint because Morgan finally won his well-deserved Oscar for an Eastwood film (Million Dollar Baby).

Several months ago, it was announced that Clint would be directing the Nelson Mandela bio-pic called The Human Factor, and he was casting his old friend Morgan as Mandela. These director and actor choices were hailed as brilliant all-around, but now the insurance companies are giving the whole thing a second look. It seems the only way the funding will go through is if there is an on-set doctor to look after both Morgan and Clint. PR Inside has more:

The producers of Clint Eastwood’s new movie starring Morgan Freeman have hired a private doctor to remain on-set at all times to look after the veteran stars, according to a new report.

Freeman, 71, who plays Nelson Mandela in upcoming drama The Human Factor, is allegedly being monitored carefully by the medic, following a serious car crash in August (08) that left him with a broken arm and shoulder and a paralysed hand.

And movie bosses also want to make sure Eastwood, 78, is looked after during filming.

A source tells the New York Daily News, “There’s a huge budget for the film at stake.”

These guys are getting up there in age. Sure they had physicals before leaving - everyone has to. But (the private doctor) was just an agreed upon decision on all sides of the table.”

From PR Inside

It would be easy to come up with half a dozen crotchety-old-man jokes, but I don’t have the heart for it. I’m more worried about Morgan’s health than Clint’s. Clint’s mother is still alive and kicking it well into her 90s, and I have a feeling Clint will probably take after her. I really hope Morgan makes it through what will be a grueling film - playing Nelson Mandela could be his greatest role.

Passenger will sue Morgan Freeman, says she’s not his mistress

B772_128119_0030

Earlier this week we told you how the female passenger riding with actor Morgan Freeman during his August car crash had hired legal shark Gloria Allred to represent her. There was speculation that the woman was about to reveal that she was Freeman’s girlfriend. Turns out that she is not his mistress- but she is going to sue the actor for damages she sustained in the crash. She also expressed outrage that she was labeled his mistress, and that Morgan’s PR reps never set the record straight.

The woman who was with Morgan Freeman the night of a car crash that injured both of them insists she was never romantically linked to Freeman and is suing the actor for negligence. Demaris Meyer and her lawyer, Gloria Allred, held a news conference Wednesday announcing that Meyer has filed a lawsuit against the 71-year-old Academy Award winner.

“I have been labeled as the other woman and have been accused of having caused the breakup of Mr. Freeman’s marriage,” Meyer said. “Nothing could be further from the truth. I had hoped and prayed that Mr. Freeman or his representatives would have set the record straight and cleared my name, but they have not done so and that is why I have chosen to come forward to tell the truth about our relationship.”

In the days after the accident last August, Freeman’s lawyer, Bill Luckett, told media outlets that Freeman and his wife of 24 years, Myrna Colley-Lee, had been separated since December 2007 and were getting a divorce. Several media outlets reported that the 48-year-old Meyer was Freeman’s mistress.

Meyer said Wednesday she met Freeman the night of the accident at a dinner party at the Bayou Bend Golf and Country Club that she had been invited to by Luckett. Meyer said Freeman had been a “perfect gentleman” that evening and agreed to let her stay at one of three houses on his property, so that she “would have an easier drive to work the next morning.”

Allred said the accident occurred when Freeman was driving Meyer’s car with Meyer in the passenger seat from Luckett’s home in Clarksdale, Miss., to Freeman’s property in Charleston, Miss., some 40 miles away.

Meyer would not comment on whether Freeman was drinking that night or specify what caused the accident that left the actor with a broken arm, broken elbow and shoulder damage. Meyer’s injuries included a broken left wrist, right scapula and a torn labrum.

“The accident and its aftermath has literally changed my life in every respect,” Meyer said. “I sustained numerous injuries. I was unconscious following the accident … I could not take care of myself for several months. I have not been able to go back to work and still am suffering both physically and emotionally as a result of the accident.”

[From Huffington Post]

Those are some pretty substantial injuries there - a broken arm, elbow and wrist. It hurts just thinking about it! I don’t see why Morgan Freeman’s insurance company didn’t pick up the tab for her medical bills at the very least. I’m sure he had good insurance and in most cases this will cover any injuries to passengers in an accident. If not, I’m sure he has more than enough money to help this woman - after all, she was in the car with him, and if it was his fault they crashed, he is responsible. I guess I can understand why she’s upset about that. But as for her anger about the rumors, that’s not really Freeman’s fault. He seems like a pretty private guy and maybe he felt that addressing the rumors would only make them worse. In Hollywood, the more you deny something, the more people think you have something to hide. Maybe he was hoping it would all go away- which it did, until this woman brought it all up again. I can see why she would expect some kind of compensation for her injuries - but she should just leave it at that. Suing someone when you’re mad at them for not defending your honor seems a bit vindictive to me.

Passenger in Morgan Freeman car crash hires Gloria Allred

Morgan Freeman

Any time you see legal shark/famewhore Gloria Allred circling the waters, you know there’s trouble. This time, the so-called feminist attorney, who has represented everyone from Amber Frey to Paula Jones, has been hired by the mystery woman who was a passenger in the car crashed by celebrated actor Morgan Freeman last August. There has been speculation (now debunked) that Freeman was under the influence at the time of the crash, and that the woman riding with him may have been his mistress (not debunked). The woman, Demaris Meyer, suffered unspecified injuries in the crash and was airlifted to a nearby hospital. Allred, never one to shy away from media attention, will be mouthing off at a press conference on behalf of her client later today. If her press release is to be believed, Allred’s client is about to drop a bomb on Morgan Freeman - and his wife.

The chick in the passenger seat during Morgan Freeman’s “horrific” car crash in August has announced she’s suing the actor … but who cares about her injuries — she’s finally going to reveal if she’s his mistress!!!

In true Gloria Allred fashion, she’s holding a press conference today to announce that Demaris Meyer will “tell the truth about whether or not she was the ‘other woman’ in an intimate relationship with then-married actor Morgan Freeman when she was seriously injured as he was driving her car late at night.”

In the press release (of course Gloria issued a press release), Allred claims she will also display “never before seen graphic and disturbing photos of the car in which the actor and the woman were riding will be displayed.”

[From TMZ]

Gloria Allred is a celebrity ambulance chaser of the worst magnitude. It’s interesting that she bills herself as a feminist, but she’s always encouraging women who get involved with married men to get as much money as they can - usually through pretty shady circumstances. She’s managed to make a nice living out of helping mistresses get rich. However, in this case, I’m confused as to why this woman would need a lawyer, not to mention a press conference. Is she planning on suing Morgan Freeman to pay for her injuries? Is she going public with dirty laundry that could effect the outcome of Morgan Freeman’s current divorce proceedings? Whatever the situation, it doesn’t sound so good for Morgan Freeman. Not long after the crash last summer, the Oscar-winning actor was embroiled in a bitter divorce with his wife of 24 years, who stands to receive up to $100 million in a settlement with Freeman. Hopefully, Gloria Allred and her client don’t get a dime of that money.

Morgan Freeman and wife divorcing after 24 years

Morgan Freeman’s life sure has been in a lot of turmoil lately. After his very serious car crash on Sunday night, Freeman and his female passenger, Demaris Meyer, were airlifted to a hospital. He had a broken arm, broken elbow, and some type of shoulder injury, resulting in surgery to reconnect nerves and fix the damage in his left arm and hand.

There was a lot of gossip wondering why Freeman was out so late at night with a woman that wasn’t his wife. While it was originally reported that Meyer was a longtime friend of Freeman’s wife (which still may be true) it could be that she’s his girlfriend. It was confirmed today that Freeman and wife Myrna Colley-Lee are getting divorced, and have been legally separated since December.

The drama continues for Dark Knight star Morgan Freeman. Days after he was involved in a serious car accident, Freeman’s business partner says the actor and his wife of 24 years, costumer Myrna Colley-Lee, have called it quits.

Mississippi-based attorney Bill Luckett tells Access Hollywood the couple “are involved in a divorce action.” Luckett adds that “for legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007.”

The couple met in 1976 when both were working off-Broadway. Freeman has four children: Two from a previous marriage, two from previous relationships.

The news comes as Freeman is recovering in a Memphis hospital following his car accident Sunday. His rep said the actor is “doing well” after doctor reconnected nerves and repaired damage to his left arm and hand on Monday. He is expected to be released in a few days.

[From Us Weekly]

The header photo is of the couple together this past April, well after the December date of their split. The phrasing was quite odd, “for legal and practical purposes, [Freeman and Colley-Lee] have been separated since December of 2007.” Huh? Were they split or not? If so, why phrase it that way? And why were they together at a party? Perhaps they were keeping up appearances, or broke up and reconciled a time or two. Either way, it seems pretty obvious that Demaris Meyer is probably more than just a “family friend.”

Morgan Freeman doing well after surgery

By all reports Morgan Freeman is doing significantly better than hoped after his serious car accident late Sunday evening. The final assessment of his injuries is that he has a broken elbow, broken arm, and some sort of “shoulder damage,” according to his rep. Considering he was in a rollover accident, it sounds like he got pretty lucky.

Morgan Freeman is on the mend after a Sunday night car crash that resulted in his being airlifted to a hospital in Memphis.

“Morgan is doing well after his surgery last night to reconnect nerves and repair damage in his left arm and hand,” his spokesperson, Donna Lee, said in a statement Tuesday.

“The surgery last night lasted four and a half hours. He’s visiting with family this morning. As of this morning he’s up and walking around and looking forward to his release in a few days.”

Freeman, 71, was driving in Mississippi’s Tallahatchie County when the accident occurred. Extracted from the wreck by emergency crews using the jaws of life, the Dark Knight actor was said to be “in good spirits” Monday after he reached the Regional Medical Center at Memphis, where his surgery took place.

[From People]

Despite initial reports that Freeman might have fallen asleep at the wheel, it’s now being speculated that heavy rain caused the accident. According to someone who lives near the accident scene, the car skidded on the slick road and flipped multiple times, before landing upright in a ditch that had at least eight inches of water.

There were also gardening tools, recipes, herbs, and spices scattered around the accident scene. The neighbor also said that Freeman was initially unconscious but came to very quickly and was talking to emergency personnel. It sounds like he should be okay and out of the hospital relatively quickly.

Morgan Freeman is sitting up and talking in the hospital, says friend

News came out earlier today that Morgan Freeman was involved in a one-car accident in Mississippi last night in which he and a female passenger had to be cut out of the car, a 1997 Nissan, with the jaws of life. Morgan was airlifted to a hospital 100 miles from the accident, and an official there would only comment that his condition was “serious,” which sounded dire. He was said to be conscious and talking to rescuers at the scene. The Guardian has a quote from a friend of Freeman’s, who says that he has also been sitting up and talking in the hospital. They also have the name of his passenger, and say that the car Freeman was driving belonged to her. That would make sense as it’s an older model.

No drugs or alcohol were thought to be involved in the crash and there is speculation that Freeman fell asleep at the wheel.

Freeman was driving near his home in Charleston, Mississippi, at the time of the accident. The actor and a female companion were cut free by emergency workers before being airlifted to a hospital 90 miles away in Memphis, Tennessee.

Kathy Stringer, a spokeswoman for the regional medical centre in Memphis, described the 71-year-old actor’s condition as “serious”.

The editor of the Charleston Sun Sentinel newspaper, who arrived at the scene shortly after the accident, said Freeman had been conscious and talking to rescuers.

“They had to use the jaws of life [hydraulic cutters] to extract him from the vehicle,” Clay McFerrin said. “He was lucid, conscious. He was talking, joking with some of the rescue workers at one point.”

His account was confirmed by state troopers, who added that Freeman’s 1997 Nissan Maxima had apparently gone off the road. The actor overcorrected, causing the car to flip over several times before coming to a rest.

Mississippi highway patrol sergeant Ben Williams told the Clarion-Ledger newspaper: “Both [occupants] had some injuries, to what extent I do not know.”

Police confirmed that Freeman and his passenger were both wearing seatbelts when the accident happened at 11.30pm.

Williams said the car Freeman had been driving belonged to Demaris Meyer, of Memphis. The car left a rural highway and overturned several times. “There’s no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved,” Williams said.

There was still no information on Ms Meyer’s condition, he added.

Bill Luckett, a friend of the actor and co-owner of Freeman’s restaurant, Madidi, said he was sitting up and talking at the hospital.

[From Guardian.co.uk]

MTV reports that Freeman was even cracking jokes at the scene, telling people trying to take photos “No freebies! No freebies!” His injuries are thought to be broken ribs and a hurt knee.

That sounds a lot more promising than the earlier reports that he was in serious condition and I hope Freeman is going to be ok. The 71 year-old Oscar winner is next scheduled to work on The Human Factor, based on a book about the 1995 Rugby Cup, and directed by Clint Eastwood. Hopefully he will make a full recovery.

Update: Morgan’s rep tells People that his injuries are a broken arm, elbow, and “shoulder damage,” and it sounds like he’s doing pretty well under the circumstances:

“He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits,” said Donna Lee. “He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he’ll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery.”

Morgan Freeman seriously injured in car crash (update: sitting up & talking in hosp.)

Morgan Freeman was in a very serious car accident last night. According to several media outlets, the 71 year-old Dark Knight actor crashed his 1997 Nissan Maxima on Highway 32 in Mississippi. TMZ and the Memphis CBS affiliate station both are reporting that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Though he was conscious and able to talk to state troopers after the accident, Freeman had to be airlifted to a hospital one hundred miles away and is said to be in serious condition.

Morgan Freeman just had the darkest night of his life. The Oscar-winning Batman sidekick is listed in serious condition in a Memphis hospital following a Sunday night car accident, says hospital spokeswoman Kathy Stringer.

Mississippi Highway Patrol spokesman Ben Williams told Memphis’ NBC affiliate that Freeman and an unidentified female passenger were heading east on Mississippi Highway 32 when his vehicle went off the road. Freeman then overcorrected the vehicle, causing his 1997 Nissan Maxima to flip several times before coming to a rest.

Mediatakeout.com was first to report the smashup, which occurred around 11:30 p.m. just outside the town of Ruleville, Miss. Freeman was airlifted to the Regional Medical Center in Memphis, but apparently was coherent enough to talk to state troopers at the scene.

There was no immediate comment from the actor’s representatives, though CBS’ Memphis affiliate, WREG, reported that Freeman may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Emergency crews responding to the scene reportedly used the jaws of life to free both Freeman and his female passenger from the vehicle. Both were airlifted to the hospital, nicknamed The Med, though there’s no word on the condition of the female passenger.

[From E! News]

A few reports have noted that Freeman’s passenger was a female, and then mention that he’s married, which sounds to me like they’re trying to imply something ridiculous and tacky. It doesn’t seem that the passenger was Freeman’s wife, or that would have been reported by now.

A spokesperson at the Regional Medical Center in Memphis said Freeman is in serious condition. TMZ is also reporting that he broke several ribs and injured his knee – but that his passenger is generally okay, aside from having to be cut out of the vehicle with the jaws of life. They’re both in our thoughts.

Update by Celebitchy: According to a friend of Freeman’s quoted in The Guardian, Freeman was sitting up and talking in the hospital. He was also conscious and talking to rescuers at the crash scene. Drugs and/or alcohol are not thought to have been a factor in the crash:

Williams said the car Freeman had been driving belonged to Demaris Meyer, of Memphis. The car left a rural highway and overturned several times. “There’s no indication that either alcohol or drugs were involved,” Williams said.

There was still no information on Ms Meyer’s condition, he added.

Bill Luckett, a friend of the actor and co-owner of Freeman’s restaurant, Madidi, said he was sitting up and talking at the hospital.

[From Guardian.co.uk]

Update 2: Freeman’s rep says he’s in “good spirits” in the hospital and that he will have surgery for a broken arm, elbow and “shoulder damage.” He is expected to make a full recovery:

“He has a broken arm, broken elbow and minor shoulder damage but he is in good spirits,” said Donna Lee. “He is going to have surgery this afternoon or tomorrow to correct the damage. He says he’ll be okay and is looking forward to a full recovery.”
