Hugh Grant loves reality TV

Hugh Grant watched a ton of reality TV in preparation for his role playing a reality show judge in the film American Dreamz:

In the film Grant plays a reality show judge…just like [Simon] Cowell so has been poring over tapes of ‘American Idol’ and the ‘X Factor’.

He admitted to The Sun: “I’d never watched them before but studied a bunch of tapes – and I enjoy cruelty.

“I like people being humiliated, I like watching freaks. The freakier the better as far as I am concerned.

“I don’t think they far enough – I’d also quite like to see the losers being tortured.

His other quotes reveal that he’s not just joking around, and pays attention to the reality shows.

“I’m quite susceptible to reality television,” he confessed recently.

“I’m ashamed of that part of myself, as I’m sure we all are, but there are some good ones.”

“Wife Swap I particularly like. There was one where they took delinquent teenagers and put them through a 50s education, and another one where they put them through an army boot camp. Brilliant, really fascinating.”

Hugh Grant isn’t the only one who feels guilty but can’t look away. He sums up reality television well.

Here’s Grant with Drew Barrymore on the set of their film, “Music and Lyrics By.”

Kate Beckinsale will probably be the new Wonder Woman

We reported a week ago that Kate Beckinsale was originally in the running for Wonder Woman and that she is a better pick for the role than Lindsay Lohan. It looks like the producers agree, because Beckinsale is now said to be in talks for the role:

British actress Kate Beckinsale is the latest actress to be linked with the role of ‘Wonder Woman in Joss ‘Buffy the Vampire’ Whedon’s new film adaptation.

According to FemaleFirst and joblo.com, Beckinsale is currently in talks with film maker who is said to be “very happy” with her.

Beckinsale has recently starred in the dark film series of the ‘Underworld’ in which she plays a sultry vampire…some thing Whedon is obviously fond of.

We hope Beckinsale gets the role, and that the film is action-packed and fun.

Here’s Beckinsale getting a pedicure in Santa Monica and Lohan walking to her car in Beverly Hills.

Jessica Simpson to star in new Baywatch movie

Looks like Pamela Anderson is too old to play herself in an upcoming Baywatch movie - because Jessica Simpson has been cast in the leading role!

A source said: “Jessica really caught the eye in The Dukes of Hazzard film last summer. She was the unanimous choice for the Baywatch role.”

Jessica, 25, will play a heroic lifeguard on Venice Beach, California — and may even copy the slow-motion running that made fellas such a fan of 38-year-old Pammi in the Saturday evening show.

In a further blow to Anderson, producers want David Hasselhoff, 53, to reprise his role as Lt Mitch Buchannon.

Meanwhile Jessica may have lined up another role for herself by purchasing the screen rights to a Jackie Collins novel, Lovers and Players. It is said to be one of Jessica’s favorite books. We’re impressed that she reads.

The steamy book ‘Lovers And Players’ follows the story of a billionaire’s exploits, along with his three sons and Liberty, a waitress who is 19 years old.

The insider informed Britain’s ‘Daily Telegraph’ newspaper, “Jessica says the role is perfect for her. She’s hoping it will showcase her as a serious actress.”

Clooney rebuffed Lohan

So Lindsay Lohan supposedly tried to turn on the charm with George Clooney at Bungalow 8 in NY and got dissed. This sounds overblown to us, but it could be true:

Lindsay Lohan struck out when she made her play for the newly-crowned Oscar winner at a nightclub in New York the other night. After overtly flirting with Clooney, Lindsay finally realized she wasn’t getting anywhere — so left the club.

While Clooney was totally polite and engaged in animated conversation with the 20-year-old starlet, he did not pick up at all on her obvious advances.

Later, a source close to Clooney told me he admitted that “even if I was attracted to Lindsay — she’s WAY too young for me.”,

Plus the actor and director added he knew that if he had appeared to be interested in the Lohan — “the tabloids would have yet another field day with me!”

[via]

Supposedly Lindsay introduced herself by saying “Hi! I’m Lindsay Lohan.” There’s nothing wrong with that, although the source seems to be making fun of her for it.

We think that Lindsay was just being friendly and that the exchange is misrepresented. She did show her ass to a bunch of kids this weekend, though, so you never know what that girl is thinking. Plus Clooney is always right, and the tabs would have picked up the story if he acted interested. Hell, he was a gentleman and the tabs will still pick up this story.

Here is Clooney on the set of his film Michael Clayton in NY on Saturday.

Will Smith at the ATL Los Angeles premiere

The movie ATL opened last night in Los Angeles. Will Smith was a guest at the premiere, but is not starring in the film, an urban coming of age drama about four friends trying to get out of the ghetto. ATL stars Tip “T.I.” Harris, Antwan ‘Big Boi’ Patton, Albert Daniels, Jackie Long, and Evan Ross.

It is loosely based on the filmmakers’ youth in Atlanta in the 80s:

Directed by acclaimed music video helmer Chris Robinson and starring platinum-winning rapper Tip Harris, ATL is loosely based on filmmakers Dallas Austin and Tionne “T-Boz” Watkins’ experiences growing up on Atlanta’s south side. In the midst of drug dealers, gangs and violence, their only escape was a local skating rink called Jellybeans, where every Sunday night from 8:00pm until 1:00am, the teens and their close circle of friends entered a world that allowed them to escape the pressures of everyday life for awhile in the music and excitement of the rink. Many of today’s top hip-hop artists could be seen at Jellybeans every Sunday back then, including Atlanta-bred performers OutKast, Jermaine Dupri, Little Jon, Trillville and TLC.

Here’s the trailer:

It has been getting mixed reviews, but looks like a strong drama and should be worth seeing.

And here are the pictures from the premiere, with guests and stars attending including Tyra Banks, Dallas Austin, Big Boi, Cedric the Entertainer, Tracie Ellis Ross, Evans Ross, Diana Ross, Gabrielle Union, Garcelle Beauvias-Nilon, Johnny Gill, Rickey Bell, Kelly Rowland, Nia Long, Paula Jai Parker, Serena Williams, Venus Williams, T.I., Brandy, Evans Ross, Jackie Long, Dania Ramirez, Bow Wow, Khadijah Haqq, Malika Hagg, and Lauren London.

20 pictures after the jump.

Catherine Zeta-Jones on the set of Mostly Martha

Catherine Zeta-Jones is filming “Mostly Martha” in NY. “Mostly Martha” is a remake of a 2001 German film of the same name. I’ve seen the original. It’s a thoughtful film about a single female chef who cares for her niece after her sister dies. The chef is a workaholic who avoids relationships and tries to express her emotions through cooking. Hopefully the remake will be as good as its predecessor.

Catherine Zeta-Jones and her husband, Michael Douglas, are the latest celebrities to lend their star power to a cause for the United Nations. They will attend a UN dinner on April 4th to raise funds for landmine removal.

Pink in talks to play Janis Joplin in new film

Hollywood must be running out of ideas for new sequels, because there are two Janis Joplin films in production. One of the Janis films will star Renee Zellweger, which we consider an odd choice but it could work, and the other, The Gospel According To Janis, is now casting for the lead. Actresses in consideration are Pink, Lindsay Lohan, Zooey Deschanel, Scarlett Johansson and Britney Spears. Spears has no chance, but the director says Pink is his first choice:

Director Penelope Spheeris has already met with Pink, Lohan and Deschanel and still wants to speak with Johansson. Spheeris says, “(Pink) would be my first choice, but she may have scheduling conflicts.” Pink’s rep confirms, “She would do just about anything to be part of that project!”

Regarding Spears, Spheeris says, “Her agent asked if I could meet with her. Music ability is important, but most of all, the actress must have the spirit of Janis. Each of the actresses who has expressed interest in the role (would) bring her own special talents to the part.”

Obviously the director was being gracious and does not think Britney Spears has the “spirit” of Janis. She also cannot act for shit. We’d like to see Pink give it a shot.

Jude Law as Batman?

We only found one source for this, so take it for what it is, but Jude Law is rumored to be considered for the role as Batman in the upcoming sequel to “Batman Begins”:

The latest casting rumour regarding the anticipated ‘Batman Begins’ sequel is that British heartthrob Jude Law is being considered by producers for a role in the next blockbuster.

Interestingly, the ‘Closer’ star was considered for the lead role as the caped crusader for ‘Batman Begins’ but lost out to ‘American Psycho’ actor Christian Bale.

Rumour has it that Law is being touted for the role of D.A Harvey Dent in the sequel which, should it prove true, would also see him reprising this role in a second sequel as he would have to complete the transformation into Dent’s evil alter ego, Two Face.

Law would make a decent Batman if he bulked up a little.

Law was said to have sworn off women when he rebuffed a blonde at a party last week, but we pointed out that he has most likely reconciled with his ex, Sadie Frost.

Here’s Law catching a train in London yesterday with his kids and nanny in tow.

Lisa Kudrow says the Friends reunion was just a rumor

First aging alcoholic Kathleen Turner had everyone buzzing that a Friends reunion was in the works by saying that she was approached to reprise her role as Chandler’s mom. Then Lisa Kudrow supposedly said that one of the guys was holding up a reunion. Now Kudrow is saying that’s just a rumor and there was never a Friends reunion planned:

Lisa Kudrow has ruled out the possibility of the Friends cast reuniting any time in the near future.

The news puts paid to recent speculation that NBC was hoping to persuade the stars to return for a limited number of episodes later this year.

“It’s not even a little bit true,” Kudrow insisted in an interview for the Paul O’Grady Show. “Not even any part of it is true. It’s just not possible.”

A Friends reunion seems to be wishful thinking by fans, and it’s too bad it’s not happening. It seemed like it was being planned, but with all this conflicting information it may have been canned in the early stages.

Here is Kudrow last night in London to launch the 20th London Lesbian and Gay Film Festival. She was promoting her film “Happy Endings.”

The film features Kudrow as a neurotic counsellor at an abortion clinic, who is blackmailed over an affair with her now-gay step-brother.
