Johnny Wright says he never offered to manage Ali Lohan; seems offended

Last week it was reported that well-respected manager Johnny Wright offered to meet with Ali Lohan and possibly become her manager. This would have been a huge coup for Ali and possibly led to an actual career where she could be more than just the lead-in to a joke about Dina Lohan. Dina, however, being Dina, completely blew the entire thing for her. She still wanted to keep Ali’s entire manager fee for herself – which leads one to wonder, exactly how she thought Johnny Wright should be compensated.

The whole thing reeked of ego. And though Ali’s camp confirmed that they took a meeting with Wright, his side is now saying that they’ve never met with the Lohans and he’d never consider managing Ali’s career. The response is really terse and it’s clear he’s pissed as hell about something. I’m guessing Dina’s ego and the resulting wasting of his time.

FAMED music manager Johnny Wright is not only saying, “Thanks, but no thanks” to Dina Lohan – he slams her and her daughter Ali in a statement to Page Six. Lohan sources said Wright – who steered the Jonas Brothers and Justin Timberlake to the top – offered to manage Ali’s career. At the time, Dina told us via a rep she was interested and would take the meeting. But forget that.

A scathing statement from Wright’s company states: “Johnny Wright would like to set the record straight regarding his involvement with Ali Lohan.

“Johnny Wright has never met with Ali Lohan, has never been introduced to Ali Lohan, nor has he had a meeting with Ali or Dina Lohan regarding Ali’s music career. While he wishes Ali Lohan the best in all her endeavors, Mr. Wright has never had any intention of speaking with Ali Lohan regarding her career. Any story that has surfaced about such a meeting holds no merit and is completely false.

“Wright Entertainment Group has never had any interest or intention of adding Ali Lohan as an artist on the company’s roster, which currently includes Justin Timberlake, Jonas Brothers, Janet Jackson and Ciara amongst others.

[From the New York Post]

That last paragraph implies a lot. Both that Dina is a moron for passing on the opportunity to have Ali managed by someone with such a client roster… and it also is implying that Ali isn’t good enough to be a part of Wright management. Which she definitely isn’t at this point, but part of being a good manager is cultivating a career. Dina obviously has some experience because she managed Lindsay, but I would think it takes a special kind of talent and experience to successfully brand a younger sister in a way that is unique and separate from the older one.

Though they deny ever taking a meeting with the Lohans, it’s pretty clear that Wright is pissed and insulted – not that I blame him. But really, the joke is on Dina. She’s so dumb and full of herself that she has no clue that whatever attention she’s getting is because people are laughing at her stupidity, not admiring her business savvy like she’d hoped.

Here are Dina and Ali at the “Georgia Rule” premiere in May 2007. Images thanks to Fame.

Kate Moss walking off the catwalk and in front of the mic

Kate Moss is considered a bona fide Supermodel.  She’s been a staple in modeling, in print and the catwalk for 20 years.  But Kate, who has described the modeling business as “brain damaging”, has decided to call it quits when she turns 35 in January.  But she doesn’t plan on being idle.  Moss wants to be a rockstar.

A source close to Kate confirmed: “She has told everyone she won’t carry on modeling after she turns 35.
“Songwriting and being a singer will slowly take over.”

[From The Sun]

Kate isn’t new to the music business, she’s been dating musicians for years.  Babyshambles, her ex, Pete Doherty’s band, had her onstage singing with them numerous times and featured her on their album, Down In Albion.  Doherty and Moss co-wrote a number of songs for Shotter’s Nation as well.

Moss has been featured in music videos for artists from Primal Scream, who she also did some vocals for, to Johnny Cash and Elton John.  She also DJs occasionally at a night club in London.  Despite these illustrious credentials, Jamie Hince, her most recent ex, and his band The Kills wouldn’t let her on stage with them.

Kate Moss isn’t going to have to just worry about making it in the music business.  Moss has had her own line of clothing at UK clothing store Top Shop, and in Barney’s in the US, for a year.  In July Kate said she was going to quit modeling to devote more time to designing and expanding the line.

Moss, who was catapulted into the limelight after she was discovered by a modeling scout in the U.K. at the age of 14, said she now wants to spend her time designing, planning to expand her line at British high street chain Top Shop. Beyond her modeling career, she in fact has gotten into business and designing in recent years. In addition to the fashion line, she’s having a perfume to be launched in America this month and a hair-care line that has been a huge success in Europe.

“All that dressing up makes me say, ‘What do I want to wear?’ and, ‘What do I want to do with Topshop?’ It all kind of leads into the other things.”

[From Aceshowbiz]

Yes, Kate has always been led into all sorts of other things.  She certainly will be a busy woman when she retires.

Kevin Costner releases a country music album

Before Kevin Costner was a big movie star he was a struggling musician, playing the guitar and singing in a band called Roving Boy.  Now that Kevin Costner isn’t a big movie star anymore, he’s gone back to the band, now called Kevin Costner and Modern West, and will be releasing a country-rock CD on November 11.

The actor, who told PEOPLE that his unlikely turn as a lead singer elicited double-takes when the band played a NASCAR event in July, has been playing music with some of his band mates for nearly 20 years.

An early incarnation of the band (once called Roving Boy) stalled when Costner’s movie career took off, but in the past few years he’s devoted more time to music. “I remember looking out into the crowd, thinking, ‘This just feels right,’ ” Costner, 53, said in a statement about an early performance with Modern West.

[From People.com]

Costner has had more time to devote to music because he’s “scaling back his movie career to about one film a year” according to Reuters.  I was thinking I hadn’t seen anything from Kevin in a long time but there was Swing Vote earlier this year, which blinked in and out of theatres so fast it may as well have been a year without a Costner film.

Costner co-wrote a number of songs on the album, called “Untold Truths”, and the first single, “Long Hot Night“ will be sent out to country radio this week with a few other tracks from the CD.  Kenny Chesney can breathe easy, there is no threat of Kev and the guys stopping his CMA Entertainer of the Year win streak.  Something in me always pulls for better than average actors, and Costner has had some moments, to be better than average musicians, too, since the reversal seems to happen alot more often.  But while I wouldn’t consider Costner’s effort quite as bad as Scarlett Johansson’s attempt, I would still call it the Waterworld of country music.

Costner and his band will be touring in late 2008 and early 2009, before The New Daughter, Costner’s next film, comes out in March.

Paris’ new single ‘My BFF,’ other songs: ‘Paris for President,’ ‘Jailhouse baby’

Paris Hilton premiered her latest pop diddy on Ryan Seacrest’s show this morning. “My BFF” by Paris is not as catchy as her last major single “Stars are Blind” from summer, 2006, but it’s not bad and likely isn’t plagiarized. Paris’ Kylie Minogue-influenced album is finished and due out in the next “couple of weeks.” Paris told Ryan she wrote all the songs on the album, and that the titles include “Platinum Blond,” “Paris for President,” and “Jailhouse Baby.” You can listen to the first single on Ryan Seacrest’s website.

Paris Hilton’s reality show search for a best friend premieres tonight on MTV. She told Ryan Seacrest in her interview that she had a good time meeting people outside Hollywood, and that there were some who were on the show for the fame but that they were eliminated early on in the process.

It sounds like Paris has talking points because she pretty much said the same thing on The View last week.

She also talked about the film “Repo: The Genetic Opera,” which is out November 7. Paris said she has 9 songs on the soundtrack and its available now through iTunes. Ryan Seacrest says he really enjoyed the film, which Paris describes as “‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ meets ‘Blade Runner.’”

Paris discussed DJ AM and Travis Barker’s accident and said she’s received a couple of text messages from DJ AM. She also said she will never ride in a Learjet again.

Paris and Ryan Seacrest confirm new show
Paris and Ryan confirmed that they’re working on a semi top secret new reality show. They said the pitched the show to a single unnamed network and it was picked up right away. Ryan said “some of [this] plays into that Funny or Die video which Paris did, which was pretty genius. It seems like there would be a great opportunity to do something like that again.” Paris said she was talking to Funny or Die and “might have a VP announcement soon.” She said this current political process was “the first time I have really paid attention [to politics]. It’s crazy… I don’t know what to think.”

Sage words from Paris. Maybe she just doesn’t want to commit to a candidate.

Britney Spears’ new single, Womanizer, is out

Z100 has Britney Spears’ new single, Womanizer, which was released today. The intro is a little too 80s video game, but the rest of the song is catchy, repetitive, hard-hitting pop music. It’s not my taste but it really grew on me. It’s the kind of song that sticks in your head and that many people can appreciate on some level. The thing is, it’s so remastered it barely sounds like Britney. It’s likely to be a hit for her and it looks like her comeback is well underway.

Britney was spotted out in a black bob wig with bangs yesterday. She was said to be wearing the disguise to shoot the video for Womanizer at a club in LA. According to US Weekly, it predictably involves Britney seducing some guy:

Spears shot a steamy music video for the song at Takami Sushi & Robata Restaurant and Elevate Lounge in L.A. Wednesday.

One witness tells Usmagazine.com it features plenty of “erotic” choreography.

In one scene, Spears (who wears tight, black leather pants and fake tattoos on her arms in the video) lies on a kitchen counter and later straddles and makes out with a man dressed in business suit.

The scene continues with Spears sucking on cherries or dangling them around her mouth, all while straddling and crawling all over the man, the witness says.

“She seems to be all business,” the witness told Us. “She’d just do one thing after another and then on to the next.”

[From US]

Good job, Britney. Keep focused on your goal and you’ll be back in no time. You may already be here. Just don’t let those stories of a reunion with K-Fed be true.

Britney gets seriously airbrushed for the cover of her new single (update)

Britney Spears has lost a ton of weight and has literally worked her ass off in the last few months. And she looks amazing. But as the Daily Mail put it, “looks really thin… but not THAT thin.” The cover for Brit’s first single “Womanizer” has a hot picture of her… from what looks like a few years ago. Britney has admitted to having her head photoshoped onto older pictures of her body in the past. This just seems more like the air brusher went crazy.

No longer can the ‘pot belly’ and ‘jiggly thighs’ jibes be levelled at the comeback princess of pop Britney Spears.

The singer stepped out in Hollywood last night for a frappucino and a visit to the cinema looking slimmer than she has for months.

But on the same day promotional shots were released for her new single, showing the singer almost unrecognisable in a PVC bodysuit and stilettos.

The incredible shrinking Britney Spears stepped out to watch a movie in Hollywood last night looking thinner than ever

She looked so unbelievably svelte that it could perhaps be suggested that her shots had undergone a spot of airbrushing.

[From the Daily Mail]

Brit really does look incredible, but the Daily Mail is right, it still looks like they’ve airbrushed another ten pounds off of her frame. There’s also some fancy lighting to take into play. That obviously adds definition in some areas and conceals in others.

Obviously it’s part of the game to have your photos airbrushed. It’s not so extreme that you’d accuse Spears of trying to pull some con on us. It’s close enough to where she is now, just slightly perfected.

“Womanizer” was supposed to hit radio stations today, but has been pushed back due to some undisclosed problem with “the mix” – i.e. some technical issue.

Update: Breathe Heavy says these are fan fakes.

John Mayer talks about his sweat; complains about YouTube during concert

John Mayer seems to have picked up more than a few bad habits from his ex-girlfriend Jessica Simpson. Or maybe she picked up a few from him. Simpson has received a lot of criticism for her endless prattling and over sharing in recent concerts. Now Mayer seems to feel the need to join her – though at least he’s not talking about his gas. Yet. At a Tuesday night show at the Mercury Lounge in New York City John kept it classy and chatted up the audience about things like his sweat stains.

… “the sweat stains on my shirt predict McCain will win.” The “subversive hipster crowd” (as Mr. Mayer dubbed the audience) booed, and he smirked and continued, “He’s the juice box fortune heir, right? This is the worst segue into ‘Waiting on the World to Change’ ever.”

In between material both old and new —and a quick few bars of something that resembled Zeppelin—Mr. Mayer mused on everything from recently turning 30 to the inability of people to connect in the digital age. “I know shit will end up on YouTube, but I gotta work it out somehow. That’s the problem with people today. Everyone sits in dark rooms and sends each other links, but it’s a connectedness without really being connected.”

The crowd, undaunted by Mr. Mayer’s philosophizing, shouted jibes like “Nice mustache!” (“Oh, do I have a mustache?” he quipped back) and the singer/songwriter rambled on. “I’ve been doing a lot of thinking lately, which is different from the wondering you do when you’re drunk and in a club.” Here he paused to demonstrate his club dancing abilities. “When you’re drunk, you think you’re thinking, but really you’re just making these intense plans about how you can’t wait to get home and organize your Apple TV and songs.”

[From the New York Observer]

Deep thoughts brought to you by John Mayer. Turns out they’re not so deep and rather commercial. Would have expected that? John also checked his BlackBerry and complained that no one ever calls him. According to the Observer, women hit on Mayer all night, and were constantly walking up to him and handing him notes. Then I’m guessing swinging their hips as they walked away. I’m sorry, were you asking him to give you an assortment of STDs? Because I’m pretty sure that’s what’ll happen.

John seems to know he’s fading fast, and it’s like he’s desperately trying to grab on to the last little bit of fame and interest he can. He needs to date another lonely sitcom star fast, or we’re all gonna forget his name.

Here are some classic Mayer concert sex faces for you. Can you imagine how that must look when you’re near him at an intimate show and he’s talking about sweat? John is shown performin in Irvine, CA on July 27th. Photographer: Aaron D. Settipane. Images thanks to WENN.

Is Britney’s record label pushing her too hard?

Britney Spears’ close friends and family are worried that she’s being pushed too hard by her record label. According to some, Jive Records now sees Britney as nothing more than a “cash cow,” since they’re no longer worried about her mental health. And it seems they’re trying to push her next CD out as quickly as possible to take advantage of her recent good press.

Britney Spears’ label recently announced that Spears will release her sixth studio album, “Circus,” on Dec. 2.

While some might consider the new work a marker of Spears’ improving health, some close to her fear that now that the worst seems to be over, she’s going to be treated as little more than a cash cow.

“Britney has been going to the studio ever since she got out of the hospital, but it was more a therapeutic exercise than anything,” says a source close to the Spears family. “The people who really care about her knew that even though she wants to be the pop star she used to be, it won’t be good for her. Even her label, Jive, understood that. It’s a little unsettling to us that they’d want her to get back to recording so fast.”

There’s also the question of how the album can be put together so quickly. One source close to Jive says that the swift turnaround won’t be an issue. “She’s not Paul Simon. As long as it’s produced well and has a good beat, she’ll have a hit,” says the source. “Really, the quicker we do it, the better it will be. You shouldn’t overthink some things.”

[From MSNBC's The Scoop]

I love the Paul Simon line. What the hell? From a business standpoint they’re probably right though. It makes sense that they’d want to take advantage of all the free publicity – and it’s good publicity, no less – while they can. Britney’s musical style has always relied heavily on digital help, so it doesn’t seem illogical that they could turn her album out pretty quickly.

Honestly at this point the record company still need sto be aware and attentive towards Britney’s mental state. She seems to be doing really well but it hasn’t been all that long and she’s probably not on completely solid footing right now.

It seems like it would serve everyone best if the album actually is good, considering Brit’s last few bombs. If Jive just wants to get whatever bit of money they still can out of Britney, do it fast. If they actually want her to continue working and have a longer career with them, you’d think they’d at least consider the importance of quality.

Is this a new single off Britney’s upcoming album? (update: no – faked)

A new website, BritneySpearsCircusLeak, (link has automatic music) claims to have a leaked single off Britney Spears’ upcoming album, Circus, which will be out on her 27th birthday, December 2nd. The song, “Candy from Strangers,” is definitely a rough cut and at first I thought it was a parody the rapping was so bad. You can hear a throbbing beat that’s very similar to her earlier single this year, “Break The Ice,” and once you give the song a chance it has potential if it’s significantly remastered. It features hip hop team Laze & Royal, who sound like they suck, IMO. They’re twin brothers who are just 19 and you can tell. They seem to have been chosen more for their notoriety than their talent. At least they rap marginally better than K-Fed. Maybe I’m just used to hearing songs that are radio-ready and all cleaned up for public consumption.

It’s entirely possible that these two guys are trying to get publicity by rapping over an existing Britney song or creating their own with the beat from “Break The Ice” and a singer who is imitating her. Heidi Montag did it.

Earlier reports had the first single from Circus, “Womanizer,” coming out next week on September 22. There’s still a lot of work to do on this song if it’s legitimate so you wouldn’t expect it to be the first release.

Update: According to multiple reports on ONTD, this single is fake and uses a sound-alike singer with a remix of “Break The Ice.” The two crappy rappers were looking for publicity.

A bunch of up-and-coming rappers with a home studio and a friend who sounds quite a bit like Britney Spears recycled an old beat and sent it to gullible radio stations eager for pageviews. Could it be a demo? Sure, but it’s not likely. The original source of this leak was a YouTube video uploaded on an account that was created in the last 24 hours. It’s a publicity stunt of some kind and several excited folks, us included, fell for it. I can guarantee one thing, if a Britney song does leak, you’re going to find it here. Will we trip over a few fakes on the way? Maybe

Is Jessica Biel starting a music career with help from Justin Timberlake?

It’s possible this story is completely fabricated because it’s in Star Magazine and there aren’t a lot of details. This is a rumor that’s too good to pass up, and if it is true hopfully Biel has the musical chops to pull it off. Actress Jessica Biel, 26, is said to be working on her first music CD, in which she’ll sing lead vocals and her boyfriend, musician Justin Timberlake, will provide backup and production.

Jessica Biel is the latest big-screen beauty with music ambitions – and she’s lucky enough to have her pop superstar beau, Justin Timberlake, helping her out! JT, 27, will produce, write songs and provide backup vocals for 26 year-old Jess’ debut CD, which a source says will be “a cross between Alicia Keys and Madonna.” Adds the source, “Most people don’t know that Jessica’s first love is actually singing, not acting, and she’s appeared in productions of Annie and The Sound of Music. Jessica is really excited about the CD!

[From Star Magazine, print edition, September 22, 2008]

We all know how well the music crossover worked out for actress Scarlett Johansson, who coincidentally was once linked with Timberlake and even appeared in one of his music videos. Timberlake is a talented guy and is possibly capable of helping just about any singer with a decent voice put out a solid pop song. Is he really going to put his reputation on the line by helping his girlfriend break into music though? We can only hope this story is wishful thinking by someone at Star. Barring that, maybe Jessica and Justin will break up over his mommy issues and we’ll be spared from Biel’s music ambitions.

Biel could be a competent singer despite the cynicism that people may feel after hearing this story. People reports that “Before pursuing acting, Jessica Biel trained extensively as a singer, a passion she still indulges.”
