Jessica Simpson chokes up during awards performance

Jessica Simpson must not be used to singing to a house full of bigwigs. She choked up during a performance at the Kennedy Center Honors and left the stage abruptly at the end in the middle of her number. She sang Dolly Parton’s “Nine to Five” with Dolly in attendance. Once she came back on afterwards it was clear she had been crying:

Singer-actress Jessica Simpson was in tears last night after flubbing a song she was performing during the Kennedy Center Honors.

Simpson was on stage to sing Nine to Five as part of the tribute to Dolly Parton, one of the evening’s five honorees. Simpson ended her performance abrupty with the words “so nervous” and quickly exited the stage. The stunned audience remained silent, giving her no applause.

Simpson appeared to be crying when she and other singers in the tribute returned to the stage.

CBS will broadcast the show Dec. 26 at 9 p.m.

In addition to Parton, the evening’s other honorees were movie director Steven Spielberg, singer Smokey Robinson, composer Andrew Lloyd Webber and conductor Zubin Mehta.

Here are pictures from the night in question. Who wouldn’t be intimidated performing Dolly Parton’s number right in front of her. I heard that Dick Cheney gave her a little sneer too.

Pictures from Hollywood’s Best.

Justin Timberlake Sings to Victoria’s Secret Models

Mega star Justin Timberlake is performing at the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show to air on December 5th. Timberlake will be singing his sexy hit songs while the hot Victoria’s Secret models strut the catwalk. The fashion show (almost naked women show) is on Tuesday, December 5th on CBS.

At least someone on stage will be wearing clothes.

Note from Celebitchy: I don’t know about you, but these pictures just make me want to work out at the gym for two hours and buy new underwear afterwards. I guess that’s what they’re going for.

Here are pictures from the show, which was taped about two weeks ago. Thanks to CBS and PopSugar for these pictures.

Want to sing karaoke in the bathroom with Christina Aguilera?

Madame Tussaud’s wax museum in London seems to have outdone themselves with a new glamorous Christina Aguilera figure posing in a luxe 1920s-style bathroom. They even feature a studded hairbrush microphone that lets you sing along with your favorite XTina tunes:

Greeting her fans with a smouldering over-the-shoulder look, The Ain’t No Other Man singer is featured in her very own glamorous, 1920s-style, interactive powder room, lit up by vanity mirrors and shimmer curtains. Madame Tussauds visitors will have the chance to power through one of Christina’s classic hits by picking up a diamante hairbrush microphone that will activate a sing-a-long video playing from inside her mirror.

According to Ben Lovett, spokesperson: “Christina is dressed in a shimmering, vintage, floor-length gown in keeping with her sensational blonde bombshell image. With legions of fans across so many genres of music, our visitors have been keen to get up close and sing with Christina for a while. She is the only female singer to be unveiled at Madame Tussauds in 2006.”

Thanks to XTinaweb for these pictures. I love the bathroom!

Gwen Stefani realizes that her solo music sucks

Maybe Gwen Stefani is completely aware of how much her solo work sucks, because she says that she’s ready to do a “No Doubt” reunion:

Gwen Stefani wants to put her solo career on hold next year and resume her role as the frontwoman of No Doubt. The beauty has not made a No Doubt album since 2001′s Rock Steady and subsequently rocketed to fame in her own right with the release of Love Angel Music Baby in 2004.

But she wants to return to the hitmakers following the release of second solo LP The Sweet Escape next month.

She says, “I don’t think I will make another (solo album). I can’t predict anything, but I don’t plan on making one of these solo dance project records, I definitely feel myself going back to No Doubt after this to do a new album.”

At first I didn’t believe this, because it was an unsourced quote and sounded like something a journalist would make up considering how shitty her latest music is. Supposedly she said it to MTV Europe, though. It sounds like a good move for her.

Here are Gwen, Gavin and little Kingston out shopping on 11/25. She could have put on some jeans and sneakers to go out. Thanks to ICYDK for these pictures.

K-Fed thinks he’s “America’s Most Hated”

kfedhigh.jpg
K-Fed tried to declare that he’s up right up there with Osama with an on-stage stunt that was more hackneyed than anything Barbra Streisand could come up with. He had a member of his legion of hangers-on ask him during a performance at Hollywood’s House of Blues “Why does America hate you?”

Federline made the statement during a performance at Hollywood’s House of Blues Wednesday night.

Since the pair separated earlier this month, the 28-year-old has been vilified in the press as a gold-digging freeloader, capitalizing on his wife’s success and wealth.

But a packed house turned out to see a resilient Federline perform tracks from his debut album, Playing with Fire.

After lashing out at his detractors — shouting from the stage, “[Bleep] the haters, [bleep] the media, [bleep] the paparazzi” — Federline adapted lyrics to one of his songs. When a member of his entourage asked onstage, “Why does America hate you?” he replied, “Maybe because I took their queen. I am America’s most hated.”

At least he’s trying to capitalize on his punchline status and wants to turn himself into some sort of bad ass martyr. That seems kind of clever of him, but he’s just giving people more fodder to make fun of him. He further shows how out of touch he is by declaring Britney “queen.”

Gwen Stefani at the AMAs

So Gwen looks gorgeous and all, and she seems like a great mom, but she still has a sense of style that I can’t appreciate, and her new single is god awful. It’s not appealing to me on any level. I see what she’s trying to do here, she’s challenging the limits in fashion and music, but to me she just falls flat.

Here’s her performance of “Wind It Up,” a real mess of a song:

This is just my opinion. If you guys find this entertaining or whatever that’s great. There’s got to be a market for this somewhere.

Paris pukes on stage while trying to lip synch to her album

Paris loves closing down parties while lip synching to her album. Janet Jackson left her own birthday/album release party in disgust when Paris tried to steal her limelight with an impromptu performance.

Jay-Z was pretty tired after playing 7 gigs in 24 hours and it’s doubtful that he cared when Paris took to the stage after his recent show in Vegas. She kept checking her face in the mirror and turned her back to Jay-Z while he performed. Afterwards she gave all the remaining bemused concert-goers a little something to remember her by:

The partying heiress was performing in Las Vegas, when she “puked” on stage, according to crooner Joshua Radin.

Radin was visiting Vegas with the cast of “Scrubs” and went to a nightclub to hear Jay-Z perform.

“Paris Hilton …was sitting next to me the whole night. Seriously, next to me, like our legs were touching for a good 5 hours,” Radin wrote on his MySpace site. “Now don’t get the wrong idea. She never once said hello, nor even looked in my direction. Five hours. And it was unreal to watch. She must have pulled a compact out of her bag every 6 minutes to stare at herself and pose while Jay-Z was performing 18 inches from us.”

When Jay-Z left the stage, according to Radin, it was Hilton’s moment. “Paris, who had been swilling straight vodka from [a] Grey Goose bottle for hours, gets up on stage, has the people in charge throw her ‘record’ on the house stereo for her to lip sync two of her songs,” writes Radin. “She gets up on the stage, pukes, leaves. . . I find the music business charming.”

Paris is shown leaving Vegas with a massive hangover in a picture courtesy of Splash News. She may have failed to lip synch on stage, but she was successful at getting Britney Spears to take her pants off. That’s something.

Jay-Z plays seven shows in 24 hours

Jay-Z somehow managed to play seven shows in just 24 hours, starting at 6:00 AM in Atlanta and spending 30 minutes on each stage. He took his private jet around the states, also performing in Philadelphia, Washington, New York, Chicago, Los Angeles, and Las Vegas. Beyonce was seen at his California show, but did not perform.

Something which might seem impossible to complete was piece of cake for one the most successful rappers of all time. Jay-Z celebrated his official return in the music business by performing a seven 30-minute-gig marathon across the US.

The star kicked off his one-day tour in Atlanta on Saturday, where Hova was scheduled to give a concert at 6 a.m., when most people haven’t eaten their breakfast. Next in line were Philadelphia, Washington, New York, Chicago and Los Angeles. The mini-tour ends up in Las Vegas on early Sunday.

Together with his staff, Jay-Z crossed the states in his luxurious private jet from city to city making the best of his return. At least 100 people were waiting outside Atlanta’s Centerstage for the first concert. There were another hundred inside already in the mood for his performance.

“First of all, y’all crazy,” Jay-Z said to the crowd before he started to play. “I know I’m already crazy. But y’all crazy.”

30 minutes later, the rapper took off in a limo escorted by police until embarking on the plane. Before 10 a.m., the plane arrived in Philly where even more fans awaited his show. The line around the Electric Factory, in the 400 block of North Seventh Street, began forming hours before the 9:30 a.m. concert.

“I wish I had got here at 5 a.m. so I could’ve been the first person in line,” said Karima Dennis, 24, a housekeeper for the Park Hyatt at the Bellevue.

“Everything went smooth,” said Keith McPhee, whose Mack Productions handled the local end of production. “Jay’s flight was only five minutes late. He loved his set, and Philly turned out. You never know, Philly being Philly.”

The trip continued and as he reached his next stop at Howard University in Washington, almost 150 students were waiting for the convoy and 1500 more looked eager to hear him sing.

“I know y’all already downloaded it … but y’all gotta go and pick up the album on Tuesday,” he said while the crowd rapped along.

Jay-Z’s new album, “Kingdom Come,” is out tomorrow. At least one reviewer says it doesn’t flow like it should and the beats are too basic, but that there are some decent tracks and Jigga is showing his maturity. Some people claim it’s not up to his old work, but that it’s still better than most of the rap that’s out now.

Michael Jackson fans demand ticket refund for WMAs

jacksonrefund.jpg
Scores of fans paid dearly for a rare much-anticipated Michael Jackson comeback show at the World Music Awards in London last week, but were treated instead to Jackson singing poorly to a few lines of “We are the World.” R&B artist Chris Browne did a pretty decent version of Thriller after Jackson is said to have suffered crippling stage fright. Judging from Jackson’s lousy singing voice, it’s likely he was incapable of performing even if he had worked up the nerve.

Dissapointed ticket holders are demanding their money back after paying nearly $200 for tickets. (I listed the ticket price as $400 in an earlier article, and must have been mistaken.) Organizers deny that there was a problem with Jackson’s aborted performance, and say that no one has contacted them for a refund. They claim that time constraints are to blame for Jackson’s half-assed performance:

Furious Michael Jackson fans are seeking refunds on their tickets for the World Music Awards after the star failed to perform his hit ‘Thriller’ at the event.

Entry to the show at London’s Earls Court on Wednesday (November 15) cost as much as £100, and fans are now saying they were misled by promises that the star would play one of his most famous songs. It would have been his first UK live performance in nine years.

In the end, he joined a choir onstage to sing just a couple of lines of the 1985 USA For Africa charity hit ‘We Are The World’, which he co-wrote.

Fan Katherine Kidd told the BBC: “I’m furious. I feel like I’ve been ripped off.”

“People were expecting something significant but he didn’t perform at all,” said Abdo Binmadhi, “When the lights went on I saw people’s faces and they were like: ‘Is that it?’

“I should have just stayed at home and watched it on TV… We should definitely get a refund.”

However, the organisers of the World Music Awards said that they had “not been contacted by any of the fans or had one complaint” regarding the event.

They added that Jackson’s performance had been cut short because the ceremony over-ran, breaking a noise curfew at the venue.

Jackson wasn’t the only one who bombed at the WMAs. We also reported that Lindsay Lohan was booed on stage and cut short her hosting duty about half way through after suffering a fall down some stairs backstage.

Commentor Johnnie Walker was at the WMAs and explained that Lindsay was playing to the cameras and ignoring the audience, and that she deserved the boos she received after fumbling a joke and then trying it over again without an apology or explanation to the crowd:

OK I was there, she didn’t care about the public being there she was just after the cameras, Her first line was something about WMA being based on actual records sales and then some stupid joke about people over 34 nobody understood, thing is, she messed up her lines and the joke (which was supposed to be spontaneous) so she stopped and without addressing the public (like ups sorry I messed up, etc) or anything, started again and made the exact “spontaneous” joke at which point the public booed, it was pretty loud, she wasn’t booed afterwards (at least not as loudly as said time).

It seems like WMA ticket holders have a few reasons to ask for their money back, although the other performances from artists like Beyonce and Nelly Furtado must have been entertaining.

Michael Jackson doesn’t do Thriller, warbles some of “We are the World”

jacksonflop.jpg
Micheal Jackson’s highly anticipated public performance at the World Music awards in London last night was a letdown and a flop.

Jackson was said to be performing the complete version of “Thriller,” but an American singer, Chris Brown, ended up doing a halfway decent rendition. Jacko couldn’t have done it better, judging from the lousy few lines of “We are the World” he fudged while the full song was playing in the background, not quite drowning him out.

The Daily Mail has a highlight video accessible from their website. At around 2:50 Jackson comes on stage to accept the millenium award. He seems a little choked up but gracious and well spoken, and said it was his dream come true that Thriller became the best selling album of all time.

His performance of a snippet of the “We are the World” chorus is at 4:50. He comes on stage in front of a bunch of children and sings badly over the song for just a few lines. His mike then cuts out, he tries to sing but no sound is heard, and he seems confused.

People who shelled out nearly $400 for tickets were dissapointed, and experts say the king of pop has little chance of a comeback now. There’s also reports that he was booed off stage, but if that’s true I couldn’t tell from the video.
