Keith Urban explains his daughter Sunday’s name

fp_1765204_kidman_urban_excl_fp_122508

When Keith Urban and Nicole Kidman named their first child Sunday, they got some flak for going the “unique celebrity baby name” route, along with Chris Martin and Gwyneth Paltrow’s Apple and other famous families. There was also a lot of speculation about what the name meant, but Keith has now come out 9 months later and explained at least one of the reasons they named their daughter after a day of the week – it’s because that was the day he was loneliest, and she has made it the most joyous. How cute!

“Particularly when you don’t have someone in your life … in my experience, Sunday was the loneliest day,” Urban, 41, tells Ellen DeGeneres on an episode of her talk show set to air Wednesday. “It went from being sort of the most dreaded day of the week for us to being the most joyous day, because we just had a family.”

Although Urban and his wife Nicole Kidman are Aussies, the country musician says their nearly 9-month-old daughter – who is being raised largely in the couple’s adopted hometown of Nashville – might just develop a unique twang.

He tells DeGeneres, “I think she may say, ‘Good day, ya’ll.’ A nice mix.”

[From People]

That’s one of the more sentimental (and almost morbid) reasons for giving your child a particular name. Keith doesn’t explain why Sundays were lonely for the two of them – unless he means that he was lonely on Sundays before he met and married Nicole. Either way, it’s clear that baby Sunday has brought a lot of joy into his life.

I must say I actually like the idea of unique names. Why not name your child Apple or Sunday or even Sundae, for that matter? If Nicole and Keith’s daughter doesn’t end up liking her given name, she can always ask to be called by her middle name, Rose. The accent that she will develop is also going to be quite unique. Even though she’s being raised in Nashville, I’m sure there will be a lot of traveling to Australia to connect with her parent’s roots.

Singer M.I.A. names her son Ickitt (Update: No, she didn’t)

90208A1

Anyone who watched this year’s Grammys felt overwhelming sympathy for British musical star M.I.A. She performed with T.I., Kanye West, Jay-Z and Lil’ Wayne on Grammy night – which was her due date. She was a real trooper.

Thank goodness her baby was a little overdue, or else there would have been a big mess on that stage. M.I.A. gave birth to a son a few days after the Grammys, and she’s just got around to announcing the boy’s name now. What is it? Ickitt. It speaks for itself, right? OK! has more:

It’s been almost a month since British music star M.I.A. strutted her 9-months pregnant stuff on the stage at the Grammys. The Oscar-nominated singer gave birth to a baby boy a few days later on Feb. 11, but a name for the tot was never revealed — until now.

According to Latina Magazine, M.I.A. — real name Mathangi “Maya” Arulpragasam — and her fiancé Benjamin Brewer have decided to go with the… unique name of Ickitt for their newborn son.

No explanation for exactly what — if anything — “Ickitt” might mean. But in a world where rock stars can name their children Bronx Mowgli without having to undergo court-ordered psychiatric exams, anything is possible.

[From OK! Magazine]

The name reminds me of the character names from The Legend of Sleepy Hollow. Like Ichabod Crane, only it’s “Ickitt”. Maybe it’s short for something? Icksander? Ickington? Icktastic? I have no idea. M.I.A. sorta seems like a strange bird to me, but hopefully she’ll be a great mom.

Update: Update: No, M.I.A. didn’t name her son Ickitt. Despite Ok! and other sources “confirming” the name, it’s not true. She confirmed on her MySpace blog that she did not, and she will not be releasing the name of her son. People has the story.

Lisa Bonet’s new baby: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa

Lisa Bonet, husband Jason Momoa, and baby Lola Momoa shop for cl

Lisa Bonet, of “The Cosby Show” fame, had another kid last month. To put it kindly, Lisa is a little unusual. She’s the sort to dance naked in the middle of a fountain because she felt like it. No actual reports of this, but I wouldn’t put it past her. Let’s just call her a very, very, shockingly free woman. So really, everything considered, it shouldn’t be all that surprising that Lisa and boyfriend Jason Momoa named their son Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa. Okay, it’s still shocking.

You know her as Lisa Bonet from “The Cosby Show,” and Lilakoi Moon (Bonet changed her name in 1995) has given birth to her third child: Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

Lilakoi, 41, has a daughter Zoe, 20, with ex-husband Lenny Kravitz and a daughter Lola, 20 months, with boyfriend Jason Momoa of “Stargate: Atlantis” fame.

According to his website, Bonet delivered a son named Nakoa-Wolf Manakauapo Namakaeha Momoa.

From the fan forum on his official site:

“He was born on the stormiest [sic], rainy night.

so Nakoa(warrior)…Mana(strength/spirit) Kaua(rain) po(dark)…

The name was always going to be Nakoa-Wolf, but Jason did the research on first middle name, 2nd middle name as you know is Jason’s.

[From the Huffington Post]

Um… obviously. I don’t really know what to say to this. There are a lot of stupid celebrity kid names out there. But at least you can pronounce most of them. I can’t make fun of something I can’t pronounce. And I already feel so sorry for this little boy that I don’t want to make it worse. You know he’s going to change his name to Paul as soon as he turns 18. The only theory I can come up with here is that most parents eventually mess their kids up in some way. Maybe Lisa and Jason thought they’d get it out of the way early.

Pete Wentz explains choice of Bronx Mowgli’s name

Pete Wentz and Ashlee Simpson’s newborn son Bronx Mowgli is the hottest baby in town. Not only does he have a very unusual – and often puzzled over – name, but the kid actually has a line of people waiting to get in the door to meet him.

Pete says no one knows the “real story” on how he and Ashlee came up with Bronx’s name. But it’s generally what you’d expect: they just came up with Bronx, and they’re both fans of the “Jungle Book.”

Proud papa Pete Wentz may not think that people “have the real story” about the genesis of the unusual moniker he and wife Ashlee Simpson-Wentz bestowed on their new baby boy. But when you throw an Alice in Wonderland-themed wedding, hold a Winnie the Pooh-themed baby shower and name your firstborn Bronx Mowgli, it’s probably safe to assume a love of Disney had something to do with it.

“I feel weird—people have all these ideas of what it means now,” Wentz says of his offspring’s name during a phone call today to E! News’ Ryan Seacrest. “I think it’s kind of cool to leave the narrative the way it is… People are stoked or pissed or whatever…I don’t think anybody knows the real story of why or how.”

Not that they couldn’t hazard a fairly accurate guess. “We came up with the idea Bronx, we’d been throwing it back and forth a while ago,” he says. As for the origin of the middle name? “The Jungle Book is something me and Ashlee bonded over. It’s really cool.”

…Not quite so helpful, however, is the fervor with which well-meaning friends are lining up to catch a glimpse of little Bronx. “Yeah, it’s like opening a new spot in L.A.,” Wentz explained. “Everyone’s trying to get in every night—they’re like, ‘No, I know Pete, kind of.’

“I’m like, you do not have a plus-one.”

[From E! News]

That’s really cute. Pete is obviously a very proud and boastful new father, which is wonderful. He said that Ashlee was “a saint” and that she was worried about him and trying to take care of him while she was going through labor, because he was panicking so badly. Pete also said both of their mothers have been helping them take care of Bronx. These two made it clear in many ways that they probably won’t be the most traditional parents, but it seems like they’re in love with their son and will do a great job.
