In the very short few months they dated before getting hitched, Nick Cannon managed to propose to Mariah Carey not once, but twice. Surprisingly, it only involved one ring, which is pretty understated for Mariah. Even at 17 carats. I assumed the real reason for two proposals was more jewelry, not Nick’s love for Mimi.

The couple are still on their PR tour. No, not for Mariah’s newest album; they’re promoting their marriage. And if that just happens to up CD sales… what a crazy coincidence that would be.

“Most people would think, ‘Okay, please! This doesn’t happen in real life!’” she tells the August issue of Elle Magazine. “When I was in an unhappy place in my life, I always wanted to be kidnapped. I just wanted a way out, but I didn’t have one.”

Carey is talking of her past, which suffice to say is glittering with more good than bad. But the few bad times she suffered were pretty big, splayed out in the media for the world to see. Ten years after her split from [Tommy] Mottola [her first husband ], Carey met current husband Nick, who she says literally came to her rescue.

Cannon’s first proposal took place on Carey’s roof in Manhattan a couple of evenings prior and involved the hiding of a 17-carat diamond ring inside a candy ring pop.

I wonder what Mariah Carey would do if a guy treated her like a regular girl. Nothing inconsiderate, but if a guy she was seeing proposed by dropping the ring into a glass of champagne at a nice restaurant. Or heaven forbid, a message on the JumboTron. Which is how Cannon proposed to his ex-fiance, Selita Ebanks. In Times Square. I guess he learned his lesson.

I still give this marriage under a year. I haven’t seen two people pimp out a marriage since Star Jones married what’s-his-name. And even she toned it down after the wedding. With Mariah and Nick, you get the feeling they’re just getting started.

Nick Cannon is making the PR rounds promoting… well promoting his marriage. It seems that’s about all he’s got going on in his life anymore. And really, who can blame him? If you had a nothing career with a random, unknown movie or CD here or there, and then married a multi-millionaire, that’d probably be the biggest thing going on in your life too.

Nick’s been plagued by a lot of rumors lately that he is essentially Mariah’s bitch and that their marriage is already on the rocks. So obviously the best way to prove that’s not true is to do your wife’s bidding and chat up People and Us Weekly about just how solid you’re spur-of-the-moment marriage is. Because that’ll show everyone your balls are still firmly attached.

Both People and Us wrote essentially the same story with the same quotes from Nick about just how great money marriage is.

“It’s amazing!” Cannon, 27, told Usmagazine.com at the Christian Audigier nightclub grand opening in Las Vegas Thursday night. “It’s the best thing that’s ever happened to me!” he continued.

[Nick’s] plan is to have one [wedding] every year,” Carey gushed to Ellen DeGeneres two weeks later. “Instead of trying to be like, ‘You’re invited, but shhh, don’t tell anybody,’ we’re just going to have another one [wedding] next year.”

Up next for the lovebirds? Babies!

“I always said… if I found the right person who I felt would be on the same page as me in term of raising kids and having the same belief system, [we’d have kids],” Carey said.

Reuben Cannon told Us his half-brother Nick, “definitely wants kids,” and that he “loves [Mariah] more than any other girl.”

I’m sure it is the best thing that’s ever happened to you, Nick Cannon. If I married someone and suddenly got to pee in on a jewel-encrusted toilet seat as a result, I’d think it was pretty much the best thing ever too. And I’m 93% sure that’s what Nick and Mariah’s marriage is really based on.

Mariah famously took back all her statements on not wanting to have kids within seconds of marrying Nick. Which was extra funny, because she made all those statements right before she married Nick. So it seems like they’re both willing to compromise a bit, which I guess is good. Mariah agrees to have a couple kids, and Nick tells People just how happy it makes him to schedule his wife’s appointments, pick up her dry cleaning, and do her laundry. Sounds like a marriage that’ll definitely go for the long haul.

Shocking allegations have emerged… that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon may already be having marital problems. Say it isn’t so! Who would ever have thought a spur-of-the-moment wedding by two people who’ve only been together a couple of months could ever, ever turn out badly? Apparently Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon don’t have quite the mystical emotional bond that they led us to believe. I, for one, feel utterly betrayed.

Is the honeymoon over for Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon? Just two months after their surprise Bahamas wedding, the lovey-dovey couple may be hitting the skids — thanks to Mariah’s demanding diva ways. With his wife wearing the pants in the relationship, Nick is rapidly gaining a reputation as the most whipped man in Hollywood, something that naturally doesn’t sit to well [sic] with him, a source tells OK!.

“He’s basically around to attend to her diva-ish ways,” the source says. Shortly after arriving in Oahu, Hawaii, where Mariah was filming her new video for “I’ll Be Lovin’ U Long Time,” Nick, 27, diligently played the part of personal assistant. He dashed off to buy her gifts at Tiffany & Co. and Louis Vuitton, and when his 39-year-old bride hurt herself during the shoot, he was right by her side. “He helped Mariah out of the pool,” an eyewitness tells OK!. “She looked like she was going to cry.”

Meanwhile, Mariah is taking charge of another aspect of her hubby’s life: his career! “Nick had signed on to perform at a sweet-sixteen party before he and Mariah got married,” an insider tells OK!. “But now Mariah needs to oversee and approve his career moves. There’s no more silly Wild ’N Out, or small-time gigs. She wants him to do big venues and projects. She definitely wears the pants.”

This isn’t the first account of Mariah treating Nick like her assistant. But the examples given in OK! don’t strike me as especially “diva-ish” behavior - like a husband helping his injured wife. I mean she was in a pool at the time so I’m guessing the injury is something along the lines of her false eye lashes coming unglued or something of that nature. But Nick helping an upset Mariah out of the pool isn’t exactly an example of him being whipped.

Neither is his buying her expensive presents, with (what I’m guessing is) her money. It’s all about the extent and the ridiculousness of it all, and that’s hard to know unless we actually see the two of them interacting.

Frankly, Mariah Carey has got a pretty great career, and Nick Cannon is most famous… for … crap. He was in something. Once. And that other thing a few times. You get the point. If Mariah Carey wants to help him out career-wise, I’d go for it. If he wants to be left alone and make his own career decisions entirely independently from Mariah, then that’s his business. But he may well want her help. Maybe they’re just using each other. And isn’t that what marriage is all about?

Poor Mimi. This week news leaked that she had her assistant break the number one rule of wedding etiquette: thou shall not request gifts from people. Especially people that weren’t invited to the wedding. Mariah had her assistant send out a list of her bridal registries to a hundred of her wealthy friends. While this was the epitome of tacky, it was also rather confusing. Mariah’s been telling everyone that would listen that she and new husband Nick Cannon will be having a second – bigger –wedding stateside in the next few months.

However nothing’s been mentioned for about a month – and now it sounds like we know why.

Mariah Carey’s Big Apple wedding might be off, according to sources close to Carey. The pop diva and her husband, Nick Cannon, hoped to have a lavish celebration that would involve millions of dollars and dozens of bridesmaids.

“The small wedding in the Bahamas was nice, but it was not Mariah’s style. The lady loves a spectacle,” said a source familiar with Mariah’s plans. What went wrong? The issue of who was picking up the tab.

“Mariah was willing to pay for the wedding, but the way she hoped to pay for the wedding was through the sale of photos. No one was interested,” the source revealed.

That said, Nick and Mariah are supposedly still super happy, according to the Scoop. And by happy, we mean happily shopping away, which for this couple seems to equal bliss. I can’t remember the last time I’ve seen two people focus so much on the acquiring of stuff. Actually, I can – Mariah Carey. She did it enough for two people anyway. Now she’s just got a second person in tow, so it seems a hair less tacky.

Mariah is rolling in dough – there’s no reason she needs to fund a second wedding through picture payments. It sounds like it has more to do with her ego than anything. I’m not saying she should have a second wedding – it’s all about tackiness anyway. But not doing it because no one will buy the pictures is a ridiculous reason.

Mariah Carey really is the epitome of tacky. After she and Nick Cannon fairly randomly flew off to the Bahamas to get married, everyone assumed they’d have some kind of local celebration when they got back here. There’s been a ton of gossip about it – but so far, nothing has materialized. That hasn’t stopped Mariah and Nick from registering for outlandishly expensive gifts. Which in and of itself is fairly tacky. But the absolute golden rule of wedding registries is that you don’t broadcast your gift list – you wait until you are asked where you’re registered. Of course that didn’t stop Mariah from having her assistant send out registry information to a hundred of her wealthy friends.

Mariah Carey’s friends and colleagues weren’t invited to her impromptu wedding to Nick Cannon, but they can still send a gift. According to an insider, “Mariah’s assistant, Gina, sent out over 100 e-mails to her wealthy friends letting them know that she’s registered at Bergdorf Goodman if they want to buy her a present. It’s odd because she’s not even having a big wedding party or anything. It was assumed they’d have a big celebration when they got back, but no. They just want the gifts.” On the list are “fine china, very expensive silver stemware” and other items. Carey’s rep declined to comment.

This week’s In Touch has a story that reveals the lengths that Mariah Carey’s new husband Nick Cannon, 27, will go to please her. The pampered singer has her husband wait for her attentively outside the bathroom, carry her bags, and generally cater to her every need.

In Touch quotes a psychiatrist who theorizes that considering Mariah’s failed marriage to Tommy Mottola, in which she felt controlled by the older music executive, she’s probably looking for someone she feels safe with and superior to:

Newlyweds Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon were enjoying a romantic dinner at Gyu-Kaku in LA when suddenly, the pop diva felt the urge to use the restroom. “She told Nick to escort her to the bathroom,” a witness at the restaurant on May 12 tells In Touch. “He walked here there, then waited outside the door. It was like he was on her security team.”

Insiders say that since the two married in the Bahamas on April 30, Nick seems more like Mariah’s employee than her spouse. “She treats Nick like an assistant,” says a friend of Mariah’s. “He’s not treated like her equal or her husband.” Nick also seems to be at Mariah’s beck and call. “He’s very attentive to her,” his pal… Kevin Frazier tells In Touch.

Nick seems to enjoy his protective and some say subservient role to Mariah and there are plenty of other husbands and boyfriends who love pampering their mates. If she doesn’t take him for granted and he doesn’t mind doing things for her, they may have an arrangement that works for them.

I have a husband who likes to bring me coffee, do the dishes, and treat me well. He’s not a pushover though, and he does these things because we love and care for each other, not because he’s expected to. I bring him his coffee too. As long as Nick is doing it out of the kindness of his heart and doesn’t play the chump role it could work out in his very new, very green relationship with Mariah. It’s a hard tightrope to walk, though, when you’re with a woman who’s used to having her every whim met with the best luxury items money can buy.

It’s been rumored for weeks that Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon might have a second wedding ceremony, and apparently the preparations really are being made. Never accuse Mariah Carey of under-doing anything. Or being classy. The woman is many things, but understated is not one of them.

After she and Nick Cannon had a quickie wedding in the Bahamas, they rented out a Six Flags theme park for 100 of their closest friends to celebrate. But apparently that wasn’t enough for the locals – the two are working hard on what sounds like a really upscale wedding ceremony to be held in New York City.

Plans for Mariah Carey’s second wedding to husband Nick Cannon are well underway, and this time around, Carey plans to make her nuptials an over-the-top event, according to a source close to the singer. “It’s going to be held in New York City in the next six weeks. Picture a wedding on the scale of Liza Minnelli’s (to David Gest) and you’ll be on the right track,” said the source.

Carey last week told Ellen DeGeneres that the wedding would be next year, and the guests at her Bahamian ceremony were “mainly people there to do my hair and help me with the dress,” which certainly won’t be the case for part deux.

“She wants over 2,000 guests and the budget will be well over $4 million and she’ll have at least 14 bridesmaids,” the source revealed. One name already said to be confirmed on the guest list: Naomi Campbell. We can’t wait.

2000 guests just screams “We’re inviting Entertainment Tonight to our wedding!” I bet that amount of love you have for each other is in direct proportion to the amount of guests at your wedding. We have two new attention-whore celebrity couples that hit the scene around the last two weeks. John Mayer and Jennifer Aniston are trying to act like they’re not courting the press, but they’re snuggling poolside at a hotel and hitting up the paparazzi hot spots with shit-eating grins on their faces. Mariah and Nick got married after a whirlwind romance and quickly sold their Bahamian wedding photos and the story of their everlasting kiddie love to People. They’re probably calling the paparazzi, who show up in droves to photograph a beaming Mariah and wary-looking Nick trying to help her wade her way through the camera-weilding crowd.

Yesterday Nick and Mariah went to the annual event for Operation Smile, where Nick was DJing, so at least they’re benefiting charity. Mariah showed up late and made sure to visit Nick and give him a kiss in the DJ booth. Nick is said to have pointed at Mariah in the audience frequently and to have played her hit “Fantasy.”

So who’s more annoying?

Mariah Carey and her secret producer boyfriend of four years split up just a few months ago, and he is said to be devastated that it took her no time at all to move on and marry the next guy who came along. The poor guy was hardly even acknowledged by Mariah and now she’s flitting all over the place with her new younger husband, who she married after less than six weeks of dating:

Maybe Mariah’s last boyfriend just didn’t do it for her or whatever and when she met Nick she was swept off her feet, causing her to act so impulsively. Sometimes it doesn’t work out after years together and you’re not progressing in the relationship and it’s time to move on. It’s still pretty revealing that she just got out of a four year relationship when she met Nick. Given the timeline, she couldn’t have been single for more than three months so it does sound like a rebound romance.

Mariah and Nick are said to be planning a nursery in Nick’s LA home. Her people called exclusive baby boutique Petit Tresor and inquired about fabric samples and butterfly designs. She is said to have scheduled a private meeting with their designers.

Meanwhile these two had a large party for 100 friends to celebrate their wedding at Flags Magic Mountain in Valencia, CA Tuesday night. They rented the entire park starting at around 8pm and rode several rollercoasters together. Refreshments included cupcakes adorned with butterflies, and guests were given pink and blue superman capes as souvenirs. It seems fitting for a couple who describe themselves as perpetually 12 years old.

Newlyweds Mariah Carey and Nick Cannon went out to dinner at Gyu-Kaku restaurant in Beverly Hills last night and it looked like everyone who owned a camera within a five mile radius turned up to take their picture. Mariah was triumphant in a vermilion-colored (I looked that up on Wikipedia) low cut short cocktail dress, shades and a look that said “I deserve all this attention.” Nick again looked wary and overwhelmed. Unlike the last time they went out to dinner, he had on an outfit that wasn’t all matchy-matchy with Mariah and kind of clashed. You can’t help but think that it won’t be long before they part, but maybe Cannon will learn to swim upstream in the rough waters of Mariah’s massive fame.

Mariah was on Ellen yesterday. She gifted her with a bunch of pink satin and gauzy lingerie. Ellen put it on over her clothes and Mariah said “this is such a YouTube moment.” Yes, Mariah, the whole Internet thinks you’re so clever, giving Ellen lingerie that she finds comical.

Mariah also told Ellen that she plans to have another wedding with Nick next year. She also said “I always said… if I found the right person who I felt would be on the same page as me in term of raising kids and having the same belief system, [we’d have kids].” That’s not quite true, considering that she said two weeks ago she never thought about it.
