Nicole Kidman has made no secret of the fact that she wants to have more children, and US Weekly reminds us of all her recent quotes that show she’s yearning for a baby. In an interview in September’s Vanity Fair, she said, “I think I would be very sad if I wasn’t able to have a baby. Keith knows I want one, and he has been getting there slowly,” implying that her new husband wasn’t as keen to have a baby as she is. She also told Vogue that “I always thought I’d eventually live on a Fijian island. I love the idea of being in a sarong, with hair down to my bum and kids following me around and hanging out.”

This weekend’s Daily Mail claims that Kidman’s dreams have come true in time for the holidays, and that she’s been telling friends and family that she’s pregnant. The story sounds just like earlier false reports, which had her also telling friends and family of the news. Since the Daily Mail is reporting it, I wouldn’t count on an official announcement anytime soon.

The Oscar-winning actress and Keith Urban, the country and western singer she calls the “love of my life”, broke the news to their families over the Christmas holiday.

The 40-year-old Australian star had already spoken of “winding down” her film-making activities as much as possible next year.

The baby, whose expected arrival date has not yet been revealed, will be the actress’s first natural child.

The Daily Mail article then relies on her recent statement that acting on stage “wouldn’t fit in with the logistics and dynamics of my family,” as evidence and goes on to cite her outfits at recent premieres, so it sounds like the supposed pregnancy announcement is just a hunch based on no insider information. And that report this spring that she was pregnant sounded just the same:

After months of fertility treatment, sources say the actress has told family and friends that she and husband Keith Urban are finally expecting their first child together.

Kidman often looks like she has a lower-belly bump that could be the early stages of pregnancy. Many of you have pointed out that it might be the result of fertility treatment and doesn’t necessarily mean she’s pregnant.

Kidman has hinted at trouble in her marriage. When asked if she was happy with her husband of a year and a half, Keith Urban, she told Interview magazine this October that “I don’t ever say that. Partly because interviews are done in advance and you never know where something’s going. People’s lives together are complicated and beautiful and that’s what they should stay. They’re very quiet. Complicatedly quiet. They don’t need to be broadcast.” She went on to say that “My husband and I are committed to each other and deeply in love. That’s how I would put it. We’re working on staying in that place, and hopefully we will for the rest of our lives.”

If she’s so actively working on her relationship that she has to say she is, it might be harder if a child enters the picture.

The latest photographs I could find of Kidman are from 12/18 at a screening of The Golden Compass in Australia for sick children from Sydney Children’s Hospital Randwick. She could possibly be pregnant, but it could also be her dress. She looked exactly the same with that very minor lower-belly bump in early October of this year. The verdict is still out on this one. I hope for her sake that it’s true, though.

Update: Kidman’s rep denies this report, and gives a pretty funny response when asked for comments. It sounds like Kidman isn’t pregnant at all:

“It is incorrect,” the spokeswoman tells the paper. “She must have had about 30 babies by now.”

As for Kidman, says the rep, “She’s in Australia making a film” – director Baz Luhrman’s epic Australia, costarring Hugh Jackman – “and her family are in Australia. She’s happily ensconced away somewhere having a few days break. It’s the silly season. As far as we’re concerned, it’s another rumor out of London.”

Nicole Kidman’s new role in The Golden Compass isn’t making her any friends among children or Christians.

It seems the movie features a church, called the Magisterian (which is also the name of the Catholic Church teaching authority), which steals children from their homes and takes them away to the frozen northern wasteland to be experimented on. The books are quite scathing of the church, but the movie version doesn’t feature this heavily.

However, the sanitised version of Pullman’s book has failed to appease the Catholic League, which has 350,000 members, and which has already been sending out leaflets denouncing the film.

“The Catholic League wants Christians to stay away from this movie precisely because it knows that the film is bait for the books,” said president William Donohue.

“Unsuspecting parents who take their children to see the movie may be impelled to buy the three books as a Christmas present. And no parent who wants to bring their children up in the faith will want any part of these books,” he added.

Actually, I don’t think any parent should want their kids to see the film. It features children being experimented on, Nicole Kidman as a scary witch with a ferocious monkey as a sidekick, and polar bears fighting. I’m not sure if this is actually a children’s movie. It’s being called a cross between Harry Potter and Lord of the Rings, but the studio doesn’t have enough confidence in the movie to end it in the cliffhanger the book does.

In the film the characters have their souls represented by an animal that best reflects them. In real life, what would Nicole Kidman’s be?

“It changes. Yesterday it was a kitten, ’cause I love milk and” - she giggled - “I like to be patted and taken care of and sleep a lot. Today it’s changed, and it’s a tiger.”

The stars were out at the premiere of the children’s fantasy The Golden Compass last night in London. The film is based on the first book in Philip Pullman’s His Dark Materials trilogy, and stars Kidman as an evil villain to 13 year-old newcomer Dakota Blue Richards’ character, young heroine Lyra Belacqua. Daniel Craig plays Lyra’s uncle and guardian Lord Asriel. Eva Green is typecast as a witch who helps Lyra on her quest.

The Golden Compass is out on December 5 in the UK and December 7 in the US.

Being a celeb offers many perks of the famous, like skipping the line at a nightclub, or being let off a speeding ticket. Unfortunately, it’s not enough to get you out of going to court, even if you are Australia’s most famous actress.

Nicole Kidman has been called to give evidence in a defamation suit that paparazzo Jamie Fawcett is filing against Fairfax newspapers after they declared him to be “Sydney’s “most disliked freelance photographer” and “a cowboy type” who had “scared her (Kidman) on the road” and was determined to “wreak havoc” on her private life”. Nicole is a witness to these alleged tactics, after she applied for an apprehended violence order, and had him banned from coming within 500 metres of her home. Her driver gave evidence today of Fawcett’s tactics and said Nicole “feared for her life.”

However, she’s currently working at a Sydney studio on the film Australia with Hugh Jackman, and can’t leave the set without disrupting 335 people’s work schedule.

Sydney’s Supreme Court has rejected an affidavit from Kidman solicitor Stuart Gibson that Kidman is too busy to testify in person during court hours.

“It would not be possible or practical to suspend filming for a couple of hours in those time periods because Ms Kidman is in virtually every scene being shot during this time frame and is required to deliver her lines even when she is off camera,” the affidavit reads.

So, Nicole’s lawyers suggested a video link up, normally only allowed for children in abuse cases to give evidence so they don’t have to be in the same room as their abuser, or she could appear on the weekend. Courts in Australia aren’t open on weekends.

Today it has been suggested she may be able to appear this coming Monday for a few hours. Often the courts in Australia call you to give evidence and you spend days waiting to actually be called to the stand, so I can see what Nic’s problem is here. Hopefully she’s less of a diva in the courthouse than on the movie set.

Nicole Kidman insists that she hasn’t had plastic surgery. Excuse me while I snicker at the fact that her face doesn’t move while she says this. At first I gave her the benefit of the doubt, because botox isn’t technically surgery, but she also says there’s nothing in her face.

To be honest, I am completely natural,” Kidman tells Marie Claire magazine. “I have nothing in my face or anything,” she says. “I wear sunscreen, and I don’t smoke. I take care of myself. And I’m very proud to say that.”

Well Nic, there’s no expression in your unnaturally smooth face, if that’s what you mean by nothing in it.

Actually, given that Nicole may have been the most freckled redhead in the Australia at the start of her career, maybe she has kept out of the sun. After all, once you get freckles removed you have to stay out of the sun to keep them at bay.

Nic doesn’t have a problem with plastic surgery, adding that “Anybody can do anything to themselves, their bodies”.

Nicole also says that falling in love is her best beauty secret. Nicole did look pretty amazing at the Australian Record Industry Association Awards, at her husband’s side in a see-through mini dress. It was great to see her supporting her lower profile partner, who won the award for Best Country Album, and dedicated it to her.

Life & Style is showing photos of Nicole Kidman wearing a v-neck dress at an event on 10/5 to ask if she’s had implants. They’re not the only ones who think so. Commentor gia mentioned how obvious it was when looking at the same photos:

i never knew she had implants! is that something new? they are really awful ones too. in that bomb,”eyes wide shut” her boobs seemed tiny & cute & perky & definitely not wonky implants. why would she do that?

I was so focused on her maybe-baby protrusion at the time (notice I didn’t say “bump,” I know some of you hate that) that I didn’t pay attention to her new boobs, and/or attributed them to a possible pregnancy. They do look like obvious implants when you look at them with a critical eye though, especially in the picture in the header. If you look carefully you can see a telltale ridge above the left breast and the shape is much too ball-like and round to be natural.

It’s unlikely to be a good pushup bra due to the shape, and to the fact that she’s seen with the same big boobs in a dress two nights later that doesn’t show cleavage and is more damning in that her boobs look big all over and not like they’re just pushed up. Nicole Kidman is no stranger to plastic surgery, so I’m inclined to think they’re fake.

Hugh Jackman and Nicole Kidman are making friends with their neighbours. No, they aren’t leaving their respective partners to shack up in a private love nest, but are making a movie in the Australian outback, appropriately titled Australia.

The stars flew in to Western Australia last week, after the Kununurra set dried out.

There had been a major delay in filming because of torrential rains in the outback area, forcing the entire cast and crew back to Sydney for a few weeks.

But when Kidman finally jetted into Kununurra’s tiny airstrip, she was thrilled by the warm welcome.

A number of town residents, including schoolgirls with posies of flowers, were on hand to greet her.

“She was completely surprised,” an insider close to Kidman said. “She wasn’t expecting anything, but there were a number of fans at the airport.”

The crowd was back out in force for Jackman, who arrived after Kidman.

Being an Australian myself, I’m looking forward to this new Baz Lurhmann film. He’s the guy who cast Claire Danes and Leonardo DeCaprio in Romeo and Juliet, and made Moulin Rouge. I don’t know if Australia is going to be the same kind of thing, but then again, I’ve never gone anywhere near an outback cattle station and I didn’t come from a family of farmers. To me, living in Australia is actually kind of like the soap opera Neighbours. Which might be a more accurate portrayal of Australian suburbia, but not as compelling as drought and flood. Actually, I hope Baz puts the flood in the movie. In a time when it is illegal to wash your car or water your lawn due to drought, you’d be in trouble if you wasted all that water.

Luhrmann’s film is set in northern Australia prior to World War II and centers on an English aristocrat (Kidman) who inherits a ranch the size of Maryland. When English cattle barons plot to take her land, she reluctantly joins forces with a rough-hewn cattle driver (Jackman) to drive 2,000 head of cattle across hundreds of miles of the country’s most unforgiving land, only to still face the bombing of Darwin, Australia, by the Japanese forces that had attacked Pearl Harbor only months earlier.

Maybe Australia was like this 40 years before I was born? Actually, sounds like a good movie, but not likely to have any of Baz Luhrmann’s signature musical numbers in it.

Nicole Kidman was trying to shrug off some zombies clinging to the hood of her car while filming a scene for her new movie. The car was being towed to make it look like she was really driving, but the stunt went wrong and her car hit a pole. She and her young co-star were both wearing seatbelts. Although she was taken to the hospital after the accident she was released after a couple of hours and seems to be fine.

At around midnight, the stunt driver operating the rig skidded while taking a corner at roughly 45 mph, causing Kidman’s car to hit a poll and knock over a garbage can.

Both the actress and her costar, 10-year-old Jackson Bond, who was riding in the front passenger seat, were wearing seat belts.

Members of the crew immediately wrapped a blanket around Kidman and paramedics arrived to check the actress for injuries.

Kidman, 39, was taken to Cedars Sinai Medical Center in an SUV, and was released within two hours.

US Weekly also reports that Kidman’s two children, Connor and Isabella, visited her on set earlier that day but were not there at the time of the accident.

Kidman has had a rough go of it lately. Now that Keith is out of rehab he will soon be touring and it’s doubtful that he’ll have much time for her.

Daniel Craig can’t stand looking at Nicole Kidman. In fact, it’s so painful that he has stuck his fingers in his ears and is humming loudly to drown her out. The first Blonde Bond isn’t overly bright … but eventually switches to covering his attractively crinkled baby blues …which while distracting is rather more effective. Meanwhile, Kidman is happily responding to a question about whether the 38-year-old actor changed after landing his role as James Bond last year.

Of course, Craig has heard the whole thing due to his humming skills being complete rubbish and he seems far more alarmed by the compliment than by the faux insult. “How dare you!” he shouts, and they both giggle. An oddly blonde moment from two actors who are ever verging on the edge of ginger.
