Patricia and Rosanna Arquette reveal abusive childhood: choking, stabbing

arquettes1
As part of the Oprah interview with David Arquette fresh out of rehab, they had a taped segment in which David’s sisters, actresses Patricia and Rosanna Arquette, discussed their chaotic and abusive childhood. (You can watch that segment on Oprah.com) They were very matter-of-fact about it but the details they gave were heartwrenching. At points Rosanna closed her eyes just remembering the hell they went through. There were five kids in that household and it sounds like their parents were nutjobs.

They came from a family of actors, with a grandfather who was on Hollywood Squares, a father who was a character actor and a mother who was a poet. When David was born they lived for a while on a commune in Virginia with no electricity, no running water and no bathroom. When David was about four they moved to Chicago and then to Los Angeles. The two of them discussed what they went through with one parent who was an addict and another who was abusive.

Rosanna – There was a lot of drama in our house

Patricia – There was a lot of chairs flying around

Rosanna – a lot of hole punching in walls

Patricia – My dad had a lot of issues, my mom had a lot of issues. She was abusive to use when we were little.

Rosanna – She stabbed me in the arm with a knife. Concussions. Just terrible, terrible physical abuse.

Patricia – She choked me to the point once where I started blacking out.

Rosanna – My father was an addict

Patricia – When he was using substance, which was usually marijuana, he would also drink whiskey

Rosanna – And so when you grow up in that kind of family, it is a family disease. It affects everybody.

Patricia – It’s like a minefield, and you never knew which one you were going to get, which morning, which mom which dad. Nothing you could really depend on.

Rosanna – In his later years, my dad did get help and get sober. And my mother, there was nothing but forgiveness and love at the end of her life.

Patricia – I think David was impacted my feeling like he needed to be the perfect son… You cannot fix it by being the best kid in the world, you just can’t.

[From The Oprah Winfrey show, aired 2-24-11]

After watching that clip, David got choked up and said that “the beautiful story about that sort of sad background is that my parents healed themselves throughout their lives. My father got sober, my mother became a marriage family counselor. We’re all dealing with processing our pain in different ways.”

David explained that he wanted to fix everything in his childhood by fixing things with Courtney, but instead he repressed his feelings and tried to cope with it by drinking. Courteney tried to get him to stop, but it took a long time until it got bad enough for him to take her seriously. We’ll get to more on his relationship with Courtney in a moment. It’s just so sad to hear what the Arquettes went through as children. As least they had a chance to know their parents and make peace with them once they got sober.

Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette file for divorce for real this time

fp_4398768_rij_pee_wee_0120
I wasn’t going to report this story, but I came across these fabulous pictures of Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette at the opening of PeeWee Herman’s show in LA. (I was looking for photos for our earlier story on PeeWee.) Then I remembered how much I love them and their fug style, and thought about how I’m kind of sad that it didn’t ultimately work out for them. I’m sure millions of Hung fans will be elated, though, there’s just something about Jane and his character’s hot cluelessness. To recap this couples’ past, Patricia filed for divorce after two years in early January, 2009, but it’s thought that they reconciled by the end of the month. They have a seven year-old daughter together and it is the second marriage for both of them. Ultimately it didn’t work out for them, though:

Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane are breaking up – again.

Despite working through a separation last year, the Medium actress and Hung actor have decided to get a divorce, his rep tells PEOPLE.

“The split is completely amicable and their prime focus is their daughter,” says the rep. “They ask that their privacy be respected at this time.”

The actress first filed for divorce from Jane in January 2009, but the two reconciled later that year.

Arquette, 42, and Jane, 41, met through friends in 2001 and were married in Italy in May 2006. Their only child together, a daughter named Harlow Olivia Calliope, was born in February 2003.

I wonder if there’s anything to the fact that it’s Jane’s rep that is making the announcement, not Arquette’s. At least they tried to make it work before they threw in the towel.

Mild Hung spoilers
I’m also reporting on this because I want to talk about Hung. Both of Ray’s pimps bother me in their own way, with Tanya and Lenore finding new and unique ways to be annoying each week. At times it feels like it’s losing focus and I’m grateful that it’s just a half an hour show instead of a whole hour. It’s still a worthwhile show, though, and I really like the plot line with Ray’s co-worker, Mike, falling in love with one of Ray’s would-be clients. There were a couple of brilliant scenes this week, like when his Israeli neighbor got upset because he thought hummus was from Lebanon, and when his neighbor’s cheating husband told him why he liked hookers and unknowingly helped him with his job. Jane is a great actor and it’s hard to imagine anyone else in that role.

I wonder if we’re about to hear any dirt on Jane or if they’ll settle this one as quietly as possible.

Are Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette reuniting?

Do estranged couples typically host house parties together? Maybe – in Hollywood. A recent party invitation asking guests to attend a function at the home of Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette had some tongues wagging, since the couple announced that they filed for divorce less than a month ago. Are they getting back together?

Patricia Arquette and Thomas Jane are showing signs they may have patched things up.
I just got word that the two will cohost a party next week for a musician pal at their L.A.-area home. The soiree will take place almost exactly a month after the Medium star filed for divorce to end their two-and-a-half-year marriage.

The invite for the party reads, “Thomas Jane and Patricia Arquette Invite You to Their Home to Witness the Spectacular Eric Lewis.”

Mr. Lewis, who also goes by ELEW, is scoring Jane’s feature film directorial debut, the 3-D horror film The Dark Country.

No word if Arquette has put a stop to the divorce proceedings. Citing irreconcilable differences in documents filed in Los Angeles Superior Court on Jan. 5, Arquette requested sole legal and physical custody of their 5-year-old daughter, Harlow Olivia Calliope, with visitation rights for Jane.

Reps for the two did not immediately comment.

[From E!Online]

There are a lot of different ways to look at this. Maybe the split is amicable enough that they can host a party together with no hard feelings. Or maybe they decided to carry on with a party that they’d planned together months in advance. Or, they really are getting back together. It’s been known to happen. They did seem like a nice fit and their divorce announcement was kind of a surprise. One thing’s for sure – the people attending the party will find out the deal one way or another.

Patricia Arquette files for divorce

wenn1939220
Medium star Patricia Arquette, 40, has filed for divorce from her husband of two years, actor Thomas Jane, 39. The couple has a five year old daughter, Harlow. It is the second marriage for both Arquette and Jane. Arquette was previously married to Nicholas Cage in 1995 for just nine months before they separated. Jane was arrested for DUI in March of last year, for which he received a year’s probation:

Patricia Arquette has filed for divorce from her actor-husband.

Arquette filed for divorce from Thomas Jane in Los Angeles on Monday, citing irreconcilable differences. The couple, who were married in May 2006, have a 5-year-old daughter, Harlow Olivia Calliope Jane.

Arquette, the Emmy-winning star of the NBC show “Medium,” is seeking custody of their daughter, with visitation rights for Jane.

Jane, who appeared in the 2007 film “The Mist” and 2004′s “The Punisher,” was placed on a year’s probation in September after pleading no contest to a drunken driving count in California’s Kern County.

My favorite headline about this divorce is from X17, which states confusingly “Jennifer Aniston’s best friends sister in law files for divorce.”

Arquette has hired divorce attorney Laura Wasser, who represented Britney Spears in her divorce from Kevin Federline.

It seems like a lot of couples split over the holidays and that could be due to the added stress of the season and/or the kind of self evaluation people do around this time. Do you know any couples that have broken up around Christmas? I have a feeling we’ll hear about some more before the end of the week.
