Hancock Premiere has superheroes and super zeros!

I love me some Will Smith. I also love me some Will Smith movies. (Well, except for Hitch. Okay, Hitch and The Legend of Bagger Vance. Okay, Hitch, The Legend of Bagger Vance and Wild Wild West. My point is, I still watch Fresh Prince, okay?!) Anyhoo I’m sort of gagging over his new film Hancock. I mean have you seen the trailers? Now THOSE are some special effects! But what isn’t having a special effect on me is the suit he wore to the Los Angeles premiere of the film. I mean did he keep that from the costume department of Bagger Vance? Where’s his caddy then? I don’t care what they say plaid is not rad. Especially full body plaid. Which leads me to Thomas Jane.

Really, Thomas Jane? Really? Were your overalls dirty so you decided to come to a Hollywood premiere dressed like a trucker? I get that it’s not your movie and I get that you don’t even have a cameo in it, but seriously is it too hard to tuck in a shirt and perhaps shave? I hope this lackadaisical attitude doesn’t rear it’s ugly head in his upcoming film Mutant Chronicles. (Which by the way BETTER be minimally enjoyable… unlike The Mist.) Speaking of mist, thank you Charlize Theron for finally laying off the spray tanning. You look lovely. I don’t get what black nail polish has to do with anything, but I’m gonna look beyond that because your make up looks fresh and appropriate and that necklace is perfect. I’m borderline on that gown, but I love the color and I get what you’re going for…unlike Valerie Bertinelli. This worries me. Valerie Bertinelli looks like Barbra Streisand’s Mini-Me. Why is she wearing a drape? I mean seriously! I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again: “Clothing should be draped, not drapes.” This tells me she does not believe in her Jenny Craig’d fabulous body which really breaks my heart, because she looks amazing. I’m just sayin’ I would think if she just lost 40 pounds and is a spokesperson for a weight loss program AND she’s back on red carpets that she would be showin’ it all off to get some new fabulous jobs… aw, well. Maybe she’s just taking it one day at a time…And that’s just what Lisa Raye should be doing. I love the new hair (I actually have that same hair in a box in my closet), but what is up with that hot tranny mess of an ensemble? (Minus the sandals of course: LOVING THEM!) It’s part bridesmaid, part summer teen and part tablecloth all in one!

As I look at it now it looks like this entire red carpet is a mess. Does Justine Bateman think she’s still on the set of Satisfaction? Has Kevin James gone Gangsta Rapper on us? Is Minnie Driver about to break into a routine from Flashdance? Did Queen Latifah just happen to be doing her cardio down Hollywood Boulevard and made a wrong turn and ended up on the red carpet? Does Amanda Peet not realize her makeup is that of a cracked out rocker on a 10 day binge? Has Virginia Madsen FINALLY proved to us once and for all what really IS black and white and red all over?

(Sigh, I am exhausted)`

Special thanks go out to Jason Bateman for being the real hero of the red carpet of a superhero movie. He looks like a true star at an actual premiere for one of the summer’s hottest films. Thank you Jason…and I miss Arrested Development more than you will ever know. (Is it true there’s rumored to be an A.D. movie in ‘09? Please say yes, PLEASE!)

Mamma Mia!, here we go again down the red carpet…

The world premiere of Mamma Mia! held at the Odeon Leicester Square in London, England was a huge success with hundreds of fans all the way from Waterloo to the celebs spending tons of Money, Money, Money on their wardrobe, hair and jewelery. Meryl Streep can do no wrong in her acting career. On the red carpet however, she’s made bigger mistakes than Barbara Walters letting Rosie O’Donnell leave The View.

My first thought is: “Didn’t her stylist see Madonna’s Nothing Really Matters Video? WTF? It’s been done!” My second thought is: “Damn, those Christian Louboutin shoes are kickin’! ‘Atta Girl!”

Amanda Seyfried looks like a barmaid who had to work late on St. Patrick’s Day.

Judging by Colin Firth’s wife Livia Giuggioli’s dress, she really isn’t that happy to be there or that busy of a bee. I mean if she were, she wouldn’t have to advertise it.

Christine Baranski looks lovely, dignified and uber classy. LOVE the color, LOVE the couture trojan feel (yes, I just said Couture Trojan), and any amateur would have paired this sheath with silver shoes, but Ms. Baranksi took the high road with the Midas touch.

Pierce Brosnan looks completely dashing. I’m not digging the busy floral print on wife Keely Shaye-Smith’s dress. She runs the risk of having Colin Firth’s wife trying to pollinate her at the after party.

Mamma Mia opens nationwide in the US on July 18th and Knowing Me, Knowing You, we’ll both be there.

Here’s the trailer:

Thanks to WENN for these pics.

Incredible Hulk premiere with Liv Tyler and Ed Norton

Liv Tyler and Ed Norton are the stars of the new Incredible Hulk movie, the latest Marvel Comic film adaptation. While an Incredible Hulk film came out just five years ago, directed by Ang Lee in 2005, it received mixed reviews although it was a box office hit. Critics are raving about the new action-packed Incredible Hulk film, and say it’s definitely entertaining and worth your money.

Norton plays scientist Bruce Banner who desperately seeks a cure for the affliction that turns him into a bulky green smashing creature whenever he gets angry. Liv Tyler is his love interest and William Hurt plays her father, General Thunderbolt Ross, who is also out to get Banner. Tim Routh is his nemesis, “The Abomination.”

In an interview with ET on the red carpet, Tyler described herself as a geek and says she has to work not to slouch. She said she doesn’t have a full length mirror at the apartment where she’s staying and couldn’t properly practice her red carpet pose. Both Tyler and Ed Norton said they were supporters of Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama when asked about it and expressed enthusiasm for his nomination. Marvel Comics head Stan Lee said there’s a Captain America movie coming up but that he’s not sure who will play the lead, which is rumored to be Matthew McConaughey.

I’m not too fond of Tyler’s one-shoulder short silk shift dress with the arm ruffle - it looks like something Gwyneth Paltrow would wear, especially with those shoes - but it’s Liv Tyler and she’s gorgeous and manages to pull off the look.

Here’s the trailer for The Incredible Hulk, which is out in the US on June 13.

Shown in order are Liv Tyler, Ed Norton, Julie Benz (you may know her as the girlfriend on “Dexter”), Jon Favreau, William Hurt, Tim Routh and family, and Natassia Malthe. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures.

Sex and the City premiere and after party pictures

The Sex and The City US premiere was held at New York’s Radio City Music Hall last night. After premiering the film in London, then in Berlin, the gang finally headed to the states for the much-anticipated opening. US Weekly reports that dressed fans screamed and swarmed the premiere, many of whom had arrived early in the morning trying to get a seat.

Sarah Jessica Parker said “The best part about making the movie was being back with the women on the set all day every day, and the best part about tonight is being here with you and being with the fans.”

Pictured, in order, at the premiere are Sarah Jessica parker wearing “a silver Nina Ricci bustier gown,” Cynthia Nixon spot-on in flowing white Narciso Rodriguez, Kim Cattrall in Vivienne Westwood, and Kirsten Davis in Donna Karan. Also shown are Matthew Broderick, Darren Star (with Kirsten Davis), Jennifer Hudson, Ashley Olsen looking really cute here, Molly Sims, Mary J Blige, David Eigenberg aka “Steve,” Jason Lewis, Fergie, Chris Noth, ‘Lil Kim, Willie Garson, and Mario Cantone. Also shown are after party pictures at Momo, which include Lindsay Lohan’s girlfriend Samantha Ronson, who was probably DJing and looked the same as she always does. Thanks to WENN for these photos.

Michelle Williams promotes her film at Cannes

Michelle Williams, 27, made her first red carpet appearance since her daughter’s father, Heath Ledger, died of a prescription drug interaction on January 22. People Magazine reports that she made a last-minute decision to fly to Cannes to promote her film, Wendy and Lucy. She wore “vintage Chanel Haute Couture” to the premiere of the film last night, and appeared refreshed and happy at a photocall with her co-stars today.

“It was decided on Monday night that she could come to Cannes, and she got on the next plane to arrive just in time to get dressed and come to our premiere,” said a rep for Wendy and Lucy. “She came in and had a long nap and then came to the screening.”

Williams, 27, was radiant in a vintage Chanel Haute Couture dress. She will remain in Cannes at least through Friday night to promote another festival movie in which she appears, Synecdoche, New York, before flying back to the United States to resume filming a Martin Scorsese movie in Boston.

[From People]

Williams is the star of the film Wendy and Lucy, which IMDB describes as “a narrative feature about woman whose life is derailed en route to a potentially lucrative summer job. When her car breaks down, and her dog is taken to the pound, the thin fabric of her financial situation comes apart, and she is lead through a series of increasingly dire economic decisions.” Williams’ performance has been well reviewed. Cinematical notes that she didn’t attend the screening for the film, and that it is thought that she attended the screening for Adoration next door.

I love her hair like that, it’s lovely in soft controlled waves. She looks beautiful and relaxed, and this seems like a good time for her to resume her career and start making public appearances again.

Also shown at the photocall are Samantha Morton, Philip Seymour Hoffman and Catherine Keener. Thanks to WENN.

“Che” photocall featuring Franka Potente and Benicio Del Toro

Benicio del Toro, Franka Potente and Julia Ormond were among the stars representing the film Che at a photocall in Cannes today. Directed by Steven Soderbergh, Che is actually two films in one, Argentine and Guerilla and lasts a whopping four hours and 18 minutes. Most critics are raving about the film and Del Toro’s performance, and say it’s a front-runner for the top prize at the festival. Che depicts the overthrow of Cuban dictator dictator Fulgencio Batista, and has plenty of battle scenes and action.

41 year-old Benicio del Toro is Che Guevera. German actress Franka Potente, 33, plays former Stasi operative Tamara “Tania” Bunke Bider, the only woman to fight with the rebels under Che. You may know Potente as Jason Bourne’s love interest, Marie, in the first two Bourne films or as Lola in the 1998 German film Run Lola Run. She’s a great actress and I’d love to see her in more Hollywood movies.

Also shown are Julia Ormond, Rodrigo Santoro, Catalina Sandino Moreno and director Steven Soderbergh. Thanks to WENN for these photos.

Madonna & Sharon Stone at the “I am Because” premiere

Sharon Stone showed up to support Madonna at the premiere of her vanity project charity documentary I am, Because in Cannes. Madonna wore a questionable v-neck striped sequin gown with cut out shoulders and an oversize black vinyl belt. Her dress changed from black to white and the ends of the sleeves and skirt were cut in icicle-like strips. It looked like a figure skating outfit adapted for evening wear.

According to IMDB, I am, Because is “A look into the lives of Malawi’s 1 million plus orphans in the wake of the AIDS pandemic.” Madonna chronicles the start of her “Raising Malawai” organization in the film, which has faced criticism for promoting and possibly being a front for the Kabbalah cult that she supports. She also covers her discovery and adoption of half-orphan, David Banda, in the film.

In an interview with Ann Curry about the film last month, Madonna said “I got to a point where I thought ‘I have so much and it’s a great tragedy if I don’t use what I have to make the world a better place’”

When Curry asked Madonna how she responded to critics who would call her charity work a “fad or trend,” she answered “My reinventions are part of my evolution, and my growth as a person. There are aspects of it that are frivolous and there are aspects of it that are real.”

Interesting that Madonna’s films are getting more attention now than her husband’s, director Guy Ritchie, whose career has floundered since they married in 2000.

Thanks to WENN for these photos.

Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull premiere photos

Cate Blanchett attended the Australian premiere of Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull wearing a gold lame wrap dress with too much fabric gathered with a plain black belt. It was an astonishingly bad look for Cate, who often takes fashion risks but pulls it off. She topped off the look with a pair of chunky black t-strap shoes that would have been at home on Gwyneth Paltrow’s feet.

Blanchett didn’t look as bad as Ashanti, who attended the NY premiere which was hosted by BET’s show 106 and Park. Ashanti wore a dress with peacock sequin detail around the the neck and thick blue eyeshadow under her eyes as if she was about to play football. It got us to publish her photo, so her makeup strategy worked.

Indiana Jones and The Kingdom of the Crystal Skull is out in the US tomorrow, May 22. Initial reviews are mixed and praise the excellent fast-paced action but say that the dialog and plot are lacking.

Also shown at the NY premiere are Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Shia LaBeouf and Karen Allen. I love Calista’s simple pale pink dress. Thanks to WENN and PRPhotos.

Angelina Jolie wears mumu and fussy hair to premiere of “The Changeling”

Angelina Jolie has really rocked the sexy pregnant mom fashion at Cannes up until now. She’s usually seen in cleavage-baring long dresses with exotic prints, looking effortlessly beautiful. Earlier today she wore a black pants suit that also exuded casual chic. But somehow she decided that the best look for her big premiere was a giant gray mumu with sequins at the bustline and her hair in a fussy puff. Don’t get me wrong, I wish I looked as good on my best non-pregnant day as Angelina does here, but it just doesn’t look like her and it’s slightly off. It’s as if she let someone else style her and kind of gave in to conventional fashion wisdom for pregnant women - hide the bump, elevate the hair - instead of letting her own look shine through. And Brad is also suffering from a bit of the too-stiff look. It’s kind of nice seeing them slightly miss on the red carpet for once. Despite being richer, skinnier, more attractive, and with better accessories than I ever hope to have, they don’t look perfect for every occasion.

Angelina plays a mother searching for her lost son in the film, and she may be going for a matronly look at the Cannes premiere in honor of her character. She said that the role reminded her of her late mother, Marcheline Bertrand, who died of ovarian cancer last January:

“My mother was very passive in many ways and very, very sweet, but when it came to her children, she was a lion.

“So in many ways, Christine reminded me of my mom, and it was a way to kind of revisit my mother after her passing and spend time with her.”

Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull premieres at Cannes

The first reviews are in for Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull, which had its much-anticipated premiere at Cannes yesterday, and they’re mixed. A critic for Britain’s Telegraph calls it “creaky” with bad dialog but admits that it has rollicking good special effects. The overall consensus is that it’s a lot of fun, but that the plot leaves something to be desired.

The Pirates of the Caribbean films weren’t well reviewed either, but there was plenty of action and eye candy and they sure cleaned up at the box office. The fourthIndiana Jones movie is likely to do the same.

Here’s the latest trailer. Indiana Jones and the Crystal Skull is out in the US and in most countries on May 22:

And here are pictures from the premiere yesterday, including Cate Blanchett, Shia LaBeouf, Natalie Portman, Salma Hayek, Harrison Ford and Calista Flockhart, Aishwarya Rai, Linda Evangelista, Billy Zane and Kelly Brook (who are probably back together) and Goldie Hawn. Cate Blanchett always looks gorgeous.
