Gwyneth Paltrow wears backless bell bottom vest suit to Ironman premiere

Gwyneth Paltrow wore a bizarre 70s purple vest suit with bell bottoms to the premiere of Ironman in LA. It looked like something Heather Mills would wear to divorce court. It’s the second time Paltrow has worn a low cut vest recently. She donned a similar vest for her appearance on The Late Show earlier this week. At least she’s not wearing another micro miniskirt, but the super wide bell bottoms leave something to be desired. It’s a one piece outfit and is cut almost to the top of her butt in back. Can’t she dress sexy without showing so much skin?

A lot of you called my post critiquing her her super short dress ageist because a younger woman might have been able to get away with it, but the issue was with her fashion not her age. She’s got a gorgeous body, but she doesn’t need to wear a skirt that barely covers her crotch to show off her legs.

As it is, she’s slowing growing on me. She gave a great interview to David Letterman earlier in the week and I found her both likable and surprisingly down to earth. I’m baffled by her outfit choices, but at least she cut her hair and is taking chances again. People are talking about her, and that’s undoubtedly what she’s going for with her wild shoes and outfits while promoting Ironman. It’s not like she’s done much recently and she may as well get as much publicity as possible.

Also shown at the premiere are Robert Downey, Jr., Vince Vaughn, Jeff Bridges and his family, Jon Favreau, Jack Black, Terrence Howard, Beau Bridges, Diddy, Pete Wentz surprisingly without Ashlee, and Jenna Dewan.

Baby Mama premiere featuring Tina Fey and Amy Poehler

The Saturday Night Live alums were at The Baby Mama premiere at the Tribeca Film Festival last night to support Tina Fey and Amy Poehler. Among the familiar funny faces were Molly Shannon, Chris Kattan, and Rachel Dratch - who has found a job after mentioning her unemployment plight earlier this month. The film is about a career woman played by Fey who hires a goofy irresponsible woman, Amy Poehler’s character, to be her surrogate. There is some speculation that Poehler might be coincidentally pregnant since she’s wearing this flouncy dress, but I think it’s just the style of the dress. Poehler, 36, has been married to Arrested Development’s Will Arnett, 37, since August, 2003, and they have two dogs but no children yet. Her co-star Tina Fey, 37, has a daughter, Alice, who is two and a half.

Fey told People Magazine a funny story about how she gained weight quickly during her pregnancy by eating too many donuts:

“Somewhere during my pregnancy I gained something like nine pounds in two weeks and my doctor was like, ‘You know what it might be? Are you drinking a lot of juice?’ I was like, ‘Yeah. That must be it.’ ” said the 30 Rock Emmy winner, 37. “I was eating like a box a day of Entenmann’s donuts.”

[From People.com]

Here’s the trailer. It looks amusing but not incredible, and is getting mixed reviews.

Also shown at the premiere are Will Arnett, Steve Martin, Romany Malco, Sigourney Weaver, Chevy Chase, Annabella Sciorra, Dax Shepard, Chris Kattan, Kristin Bell, Maggie Grace, Molly Shannon, Rachel Dratch, Robert DeNiro, Fred Durst looking old, and Padma Lakshmi. Thanks to PRPhotos and WENN for these pictures.

George Clooney says he never dated Renee Zelwegger

George Clooney is not going to let his girlfriend’s web-based mini scandal get in the way of a good premiere. He posed jokingly with his relatively long-lasting love, Sarah Larson, 29, on the red carpet at the premiere of his new film, Leatherheads last night. Humor author A.J. Jacobs interviewed Clooney for last month’s issue of Esquire, and their entire session consisted of Jacobs showing Clooney the criticism and sites about him on the Internet. Clooney was really low-key and mildly amused by all the crap about him online, and you can bet he got a kick out of those drunken photos of his girlfriend. Compared to the other photos on the photographer’s site, which include a lot of wasted topless women making out, the photos of Larson on all fours and sort-of bikini wrestling weren’t that bad.

Clooney has been tirelessly promoting Leatherheads, which is out in the US on April 4. He has an interview in this week’s Life & Style that includes a lot of his deadpan witty comments, like saying he likes to wear women’s clothing and shoes. He also told a funny story about how he embarrassed designer Georgio Armani by wearing one of his suits until it started looking beat. Armani sent him a new one and told him to either wear it or not credit him with designing that old thing:

Are you into fashion?
It’s not that important to me. I’ve worn the same tux so long that Georgio Armani actually sent me a new one and said, “Please either wear this or stop saying you’re wearing Armani, because it’s frayed.” I’ve basically worn this sweater for three days. It’s easier for men than for women.

Do you have sympathy for women’s fashion woes?
I do wear a lot of women’s clothes. The thing is the pumps. I have Manolos in size 11 1/2. They’re hard on your calves.

[From Life & Style, print edition, April 7, 2008]

As for whether he dated Renee Zellweger, to which he said “a little bit” when asked, Clooney said he was joking and that comment was overblown, but he got in trouble with Zellweger for it. He says “No” when asked if it’s true that they dated a little.

Is it true that you and Renee Zellweger dated a little?
No. Someone went through a list of girls I supposedly dated. I replied. “Yes, no, yes, no, no, never heard of her, a little bit,” as a joke. If you take the list and what I said together, it looks like I said “a little bit” about Renee. She later said to me, “A little bit?” I was like, uh-oh, I’m in trouble.

[From Life & Style, print edition, April 7, 2008]

I still think they had something going on, though.

Leatherheads is a football comedy set in the 1920s and it’s getting mixed reviews. We’ll have to see how it does at the box office.

Zellwegger looks really good at the premiere in LA last night. Her face isn’t all bright red or ghostly looking and that’s a great vintage-cut dress. Also shown are John Krasinski and Jenna Fischer. I love Jenna Fischer, she seems so down to earth. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures.

Jim Carrey and Jenny McCarthy at the “Horton Hears a Who” Premiere

The stars were out this weekend for the premiere of the new animated children’s film Horton Hears a Who, based on the 1954 Dr. Seuss book of the same name. Abortion protesters crashed the premiere at Westwood Village Theater on Saturday, with the justification that the film and book’s motto “a person is a person, no matter how small” can also be used as a statement against abortion. Dr. Seuss was personally against the abortion activists appropriating his phrase for their cause, and he threatened to sue over it before he died in 1991. In 2001, his widow did sue an abortion group for using her husband’s writing without his permission.

Judging from these photos, the protestors were contained and kept away from the little guests at the film, and the premiere went on as scheduled.

Carrey stars as the voice of the elephant Horton, who discovers a planet in a small speck of dust and works to protect its tiny inhabitants. It also stars Steve Carell, Carol Burnett, and Will Arnett.

Here’s the trailer:

Horton Hears a Who is out in US theaters on March 14, and is refreshingly out in the rest of Europe around the same time. It is getting good reviews, and since it’s a kids’ film it’s sure to be a hit.

Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures, which also include Jenny McCarthy and her son, Evan, who will be 6 in May, Brooke Shields, her husband Chris Henchy and their daughters Rowan, who will be 4 in May, and Grier, 23 months. Also shown are Carol Burnett and what look like her surly grandchildren, Jamie Pressly and her fiance, DJ Eric Calvo, Joely Fisher and her daughter True, 25 months, Ray Liotta and his daughter Karsen, 9, and friend, Jesse McCartney and his brother Timothy McCartney, The American Idol Finalists, Steve Carell, Will Artnett, and Jim Carrey’s 20 year-old daughter, Jane, showing off her Canada tattoo.

Penelope premiere with Reese Witherspoon and Christina Ricci

Reese Witherspoon, Christina Ricci, James McAvoy and Amanda Bynes were among the stars at last night’s premiere of Penelope, a modern romantic fairy tale about a girl born with the nose of a pig. Christina Ricci stars as Penelope, with Witherspoon as her rough ‘n tumble sidekick friend. Witherspoon also produced the film. James McAvoy is the love interest who is able to look past the physical imperfections to the girl underneath. The film is getting mixed reviews, with some saying that it’s not cohesive. Many other reviewers call it charming and quirky.

Some commentors on Oh No They Didn’t note that the film has been out for some time, as it premiered at film festivals including Toronto in 2006 and Cannes in 2007. That doesn’t mean that it won’t be a commercial success, though, as it seems to be the type of cute film that movie-goers enjoy. I had high hopes for a box office success for Sweeney Todd over the holidays, but it only took in $52 million domestically. That’s nothing to scoff at, but it isn’t that high either, and the film may have suffered from its dark subject matter as well as the fact that it was a musical. Penelope seems to have broader appeal, and we’ll have to see how it does at the box office.

Penelope is out in US theaters on January 29.

It’s cute how Reese and Christina both have the same hairstyle with bangs and pulled back hair. Reese’s outfit is looking a little too casual for a premiere but maybe she didn’t want to upstage Christina Ricci. Rachel Taylor is also shown, and she’s wearing a very odd sack-like dress. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures.

Jason Statham and Anthony Hopkins at “The Bank Job” premiere

You know we’re scratching for stories when we cover a premiere without a lot of big names, but Jason Statham could run around for two hours doing not much of anything and I would watch it, all wide-eyed and rapt. He adds a layer of swoon-inducing kick-ass testosterone to any film, and it looks like his new film, The Bank Job, doesn’t even need help in that department.

The Bank Job is based on the true story of a multi-million pound London bank heist in 1971, in which safety deposit boxes were stolen from a vault. The robbery was only covered by the press for a just a few days before the government issued a gag order and the story faded away. It is thought that the gang uncovered reams of information about a massive corruption scandal involving top government officials along with the royal family. (It has no relation to The Italian Job or the upcoming sequel The Brazilian Job (snicker) except for the fact that it also stars Statham and has “Job” in the title.)

Here’s the description from IMDB:

In September 1971, thieves tunneled into the vault of a bank in London’s Baker Street and looted safe deposit boxes of cash and jewelry worth over three million pounds. None of it was recovered. Nobody was ever arrested. The robbery made headlines for a few days and then disappeared - the result of a ‘D’ Notice, gagging the press. This film reveals what was hidden for the first time. The story involves murder, corruption and a sex scandal with links to the Royal Family - a story in which the thieves were the most innocent people involved.

And here’s the trailer. It looks pretty awesome.

The thing that I found amusing about these premiere pictures is that Guy Ritchie showed up looking sheepish in a cap and suit - but he’s not the director and had no hand in the movie that I can tell. He hasn’t had a critically acclaimed or successful film since 2000’s Snatch.

Anthony Hopkins was looking elderly in a plaid jacket and scarf and full white beard. He also has nothing to do with this movie.

The Bank Job is out in the UK on February 25, and comes out in US theaters on March 7. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures. There are also some stills from the film, thanks to AllMoviePhoto.

“Let them eat cake,” I mean “get a makeover,” says Paris Hilton

In a new interview in Parade Magazine, Paris Hilton reveals her life strategies for feeling sexy, and says that the rumors that she’s set to play as lesbian on the television show “The L Word” are actually true. All those stories about how Paris is a party girl just aren’t accurate, she says, and she manages to handle the stress of it all and remain gracious by relying on the fine manners her non-slutty mother, Kathy, taught her. If you’re down about yourself and want to feel better, “just get a makeover” Paris says, as if we all have a team of hairstylists, makeup artists, designers and tanning spray-guys clamoring to make each of us the most plastic and orange we can possibly be.

You’ve sometimes been called a diva, but I have never once seen you be rude to anyone.

“That was definitely the way that we were raised by my mom. She always taught us to be polite. We had the best manners, so I’ve kept them.”

Any other “mom advice” you still carry with you?

“‘Put your shoulders back and don’t chew gum.’”

“My mom has always been really supportive. She’s one of my best friends. And she’s just always told me to stay the same and stay the sweet girl I’ve always been since I was little and not let any of the Hollywood stuff get to my head, and you’ll leave a good karma…”

The media seem preoccupied with the “Hollywood bad girls,” and often your name is on that list. Is that unfair?

“Yeah, you know, that’s just a stereotype they’ve come up with. And that’s fine, but I’m not a bad girl [laughs].”

We’ve even seen you under pressure during some stressful times. How do you keep the day-to-day attention from getting to you?

“I handle it really well. I don’t let that bother me or let the media or paparazzi take over my life. I try not to pay attention to things that are negative…”

Every woman has an ugly day. Do you?

“I think we’re humans. All girls feel like a “nottie” some days—like someone who isn’t turning heads. That’s just part of life. I just get a facial or a massage. Pampering yourself gets you back into “hottie”-ness…”

Not everyone can be a “hottie,” but can they still find something in themselves to feel good about?

“Definitely. I think that’s what life is about. You only live once, and you want to make it as best a life you can have. And I feel like, if people are confident and believe in themselves, that they can all be “hotties.”

“If you’re single and you want to go dating and have fun and be young and whatever, just go and get a makeover.”

[From Parade.com]

When asked if she’d rather be rich or famous, Paris said “rich, because then… you can just have everything you want and not have to deal with the press and people following you,” but conceded that she has both and that “It doesn’t even make any difference. I could be happy if I had nothing.”

Here’s Paris at the LA premiere of The Hottie and The Nottie last night. It definitely looks like she was cast in the wrong role when you check out her gorgeous costar Christine Lakin. Here’s the trailer, it actually looks mildly funny. The film isin limited release in the US starting February 8.

Thnks to PRPhotos for these pictures from the premiere.

Jessica Alba talks about the stalking paparazzi, says she’s not that interesting

Jessica Alba has a new horror film out called The Eye in which she plays a blind violinist who receives an eye transplant that gives her creepy otherworldly visions. It’s a remake of a film from Hong Kong called Jian Gui. Alba has being doing press for the film and talking about her pregnancy. She’s been widely quoted as saying that she loves her pregnancy boobs, but sounds like she’s having some identity issues with her formerly-slim body growing to accommodate a baby. She said in an earlier interview that she’s sensibly trying not to gain too much weight too fast, but that pregnancy was like a “shock to the system.” When asked by iF Magazine if she felt sexier she said “Well right now I just feel like… like a pregnant lady.”

Like the recent interview with Sheryl Crow that we just mentioned, Jessica Alba also talks about the scourge of paparazzi who follow her ariybd and said that she finds it baffling because she doesn’t do anything all that interesting. She says she’s going to raise her baby in LA because her family is there, but that she wishes the US was like England and had laws to protect children’s faces from being published:

iF: Are you concerned by the paparazzi and having a baby?

ALBA: The thing is, I think it’s in England where you can’t show the kids faces and that is right because they’re not in the public eye and I think if they could do that here it would be wonderful. When I started acting it wasn’t this bad. It’s bizarre and it seems like anybody can buy a camera and call themselves a paparazzi and stalk people for a living. It’s really strange. I’m not doing any interesting or salacious. I’m going to the gym because it’s good for me and the baby and going to the grocery store because we need food in the house and it’s really not that interesting. I’m not trying to be out there in that way.

iF: It looks dangerous

ALBA: Yeah, they cut me off. I’ve had to call the police a few times when I’ve been scared. They go in front of the lights and cut me off so they can stay with me but what if they’re running a red light when someone doesn’t see them? They just don’t care. It’s too bad.

iF: Do you ever think about moving away from LA?

ALBA: I have but my family is here. All my family is here and I think it’s more important that the kid grows up with family around and not be isolated from the world because of idiots.

[From iF Magazine]

Alba doesn’t strike me as the brightest bulb in the bunch, but she seems relatively low-key and she handles herself well. The paparazzi are increasingly crossing the line with celebrities and maybe Britney’s hospitalization will help bring about the impetus for new legislation that protects people from harassment by photographers. I like to see the photos of the celebrities’ kids, they’re cute, but whether we get to see them or not should be at their parents’ discretion and it is a good idea to consider laws in the US to protect children.

Alba half admitted on David Letterman this week that she knows the sex of her baby, but wouldn’t reveal it. She said “I might know, but I’m not saying anything.” She is thought to be having a boy based on purchases she recently made at Petit Tresor.

The Eye is out in the US today, and it looks really scary. Here’s the trailer:

Here are photos from the premiere, thanks to PRPhotos.

Kate Hudson looks more pregnant than Matt’s girlfriend (update)

Kate Hudson chose an unfortunate cobalt blue dress with a giant asymmetric ruffle for the premiere of her new romantic comedy Fool’s Gold. Her co-star Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend, Camilla Alves, is over three months pregnant and rocked a short black dress with feathers at the hemline that made her look less pregnant than Kate Hudson did.

Kate’s dress looks like it’s gathering at stomach, creating the illusion that she has a bump when she might not. What is with that dress and her matronly up-do? Maybe the outfit looked better on the runway. It was very windy that night and that must have thrown off the look she was going for. Alves’ was seen laughing as she tried to keep the wind from blowing her skirt up, and Hudson also took the windy weather in stride, laughing and trying to keep her coat on.

When I first saw these pictures I thought Kate was pregnant, but this is a conclusion I often jump to when a celebrity wears an unflattering dress. Looking at other images, she doesn’t look quite as pregnant and could be the victim of an overzealous stylist. It’s interesting to note that she also wore a loose dress to the SAG Awards.

Fool’s Gold
is out in the US on February 8. It an adventure romance about a divorced couple in search of treasure. Here’s the trailer:

Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures of the premiere last night. The header image is from Splash.

Update: Hudson’s rep has not yet responded to a request to comment on this story. We will let you know if we get a response.

Update 2: Hudson’s rep told us in an e-mail that “Kate is not pregnant.”

Hannah Montana movie tickets sell out too (update)

The Hannah Montana movie is selling out and tickets are predictably becoming a hot commodity. The film is only in theaters for one week starting February 1 so it looks like they wanted to create a scarcity of tickets to add to the hype surrounding the Disney star:

Hundreds of showtimes are already sold out on Fandango and theater owners are constantly adding new ones, says Harry Medved, spokesman for Fandango, the nation’s largest movie ticketing service. The movie opens nationwide Feb. 1 and runs for one week only. Tickets went on sale Dec. 1 and can be purchased online or at the box office.

“We have 21 girls in our Girl Scout troop and I wanted to be able to offer it to all of them, thinking it would be great if we could go together,” said Patti Feurman, mother of two in Ridgefield, Conn. “It was impossible to get that many tickets for a single show. We all had to break up to try to find tickets and we are all at different showtimes.”

“Hannah Montana & Miley Cyrus: Best of Both Worlds Concert” captures singing sensation Miley Cyrus during her 54-date tour. In the movie, Miley, 15, star of Disney Channel’s “Hannah Montana” series, performs as both a solo artist and as her television character, Hannah Montana. The movie is in Disney Digital 3D.

The concert movie was the No. 1 seller on MovieTickets.com its first week on sale, selling more on that Friday, Saturday and Sunday, than any other movies for the entire week, said Joel Cohen, MovieTickets.com’s executive vice president and general manager. He says the ticketing service has sold thousands of tickets each day since.

The film was 30 percent of the ticket sales on Fandango as of Thursday, right behind “Cloverfield,” which comes out Friday, and has consistently been a top-selling ticket on the site, says Medved. A Los Angeles movie theater had a 12:01 a.m. Feb. 1 showtime, with other theaters starting around 8 a.m. that day. The movie is playing in more than 600 theaters.

“It’s the best-selling concert movie in Fandango’s seven-year history,” said Rick Butler, chief operating officer of Fandango.

[From The Huffington Post]

This film was supposed to be a consolation prize for all the kids who didn’t get to go to the sold out concerts, but it’s only going to disappoint if it’s just out for a week. The Huffington Post notes that Disney refused to comment on why they decided to only put the film out for a week and that they also wouldn’t say if the film’s release will be extended.

They quote a communication professor as saying that it’s more like a television movie and that it’s common for smaller films to have a run of just one week. Tickets for the Hannah Montana Miley Cyrus concerts went for thousands of dollars on the black market so Disney must realize that the film is going to quickly sell out too.

There was a minor scandal with the teen star when it emerged that she was using a body double for a short time in her live concerts as she ended a song and started another to help ease her transition from Hannah Montana to Miley Cyrus. Miley’s people issued a statement confirming that a body double is used on stage for just one to two minutes, but stating that she performs live for the rest of the show.

Miley Cyrus is shown at the premiere of the “Hannah Montana and Miley Cyrus - Best of Both Worlds Concert” movie on 1/17/08, thanks to PRPhotos. The Jonas Brothers and her dad, Billy Ray Cyrus, are also shown. Is it just me or does she look kind of smug here? Cute dress though.

Update: Miley Cyrus has spoken out about Britney’s problems. It seems like some interviewer asked her specifically about Britney as US Weekly quotes her as telling Extra “I think it’s so crazy and I think that she [Britney] needs help. If I didn’t have [my family], I’d probably be in the same position. You just got to know who your true friends are, and I think for me, is my mom. If you have sisters, I mean any girls that are in your family, that can understand and relate to you, I think is the best.”

Miley has also apparently dyed her hair black, which I didn’t notice. She said “”I was just trying to get more into my rock and roll vibe.”
