Cate Blanchett has got to be pregnant

A little over two weeks ago, we were declaring Cate Blanchett pregnant after she gained some weight and was looking suspiciously fuller than normal in the stomach area. In the latest photos of Blanchett out at the premiere of Elizabeth: The Golden Age this weekend in Rome, she is wearing a lovely strapless dress with plenty of pleats across the midriff and a lime green sash and train to detract from that area. Blanchett hasn’t been seen out in a form-fitting outfit in at least two months.

Blanchett is at the Rome film festival to promote Elizabeth: The Golden Age. The film is being criticized for playing fast and loose with history and for being too melodramatic. It currently has a low 28% aggregate critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. Although the film is not that well-received, Blanchett is receiving praise for an incredible repeat performance as the queen of England, and there’s Oscar buzz around her role:

Fictionalizing history is a noble literary crime that goes back to Shakespeare and Homer. The real issue arises when it makes the drama feel inauthentic. And some of The Golden Age’s more opulent excesses — from its torrid score to its painterly vistas of a digital armada — have a counterfeit ring.

But the cast keeps it real. Even if his Raleigh is overwritten, Clive Owen makes a delicious meal of the role. Unlike Joseph Fiennes, Elizabeth’s unctuous lover Robert Dudley in the first film, this smouldering suitor has charisma to match the queen’s. Returning as spymaster Walsingham, Geoffrey Rush uncovers a realm of pathos beneath the cunning. As Bess, Abbie Cornish has the allure of a young Kate Winslet. And Samatha Morton crackles as Mary — even if her beheading is staged with the elegance of a coronation, rather than the botched hack job that actually took place.

Blanchett, meanwhile, is magnificent. There’s an emotional translucence in her pale chameleon features. The intelligence is visible. You can see moods play across her face like wind on water: fear, whimsy, flirtation, suspicion, calculation, rage — and iron resolve. As a politician empowered by fashion, she’s equipped with a fantastic repertoire of wigs and costumes, culminating in her appearance as an armoured warrior on a white horse, unleashing the fury of God and England on the invading horde. Female roles do not get more heroic.

[From Macleans.Ca]

Elizabeth: The Golden Age also stars Geoffrey Rush, Samantha Morton, and Clive Owen and is currently out in US theaters.

I’m surprised the tabloids haven’t yet called Blanchett pregnant given all the signs, but she has two children and has been married for ten years. It’s not as sensational when a celebrity gets pregnant if it’s not her first child and she doesn’t make it known that she’s yearning for a baby. Blanchett has two boys, Dashiell John, who will be six in December and Roman Robert, who is three and a half. Her husband is playwright and screenwriter Andrew Upton.

Blanchett is shown at the premiere of Elizabeth: The Golden Age at the Rome film festival with her co-star Geoffrey Rush on 10/20. She is also seen at a photocall for the film on 10/19. Thanks to Splash News for these photos.

Kylie Minogue at the premiere of her new documentary

Kylie Minogue was dripping with diamonds and crystals at the London premiere of the two hour documentary about her comeback from breast cancer, White Diamond, last night. She wore a gorgeous sleeveless Dolce & Gabbana satin gown adorned with literally a million dollars worth of Swarovski crystals. She sat in the back of the theater and laughed and cried at the film which showed her regain her health, stage a comeback tour and face a difficult breakup up with longterm boyfriend Oliver Martinez. Minogue says she was reluctant to do the film and tried to call it off five different times:

The movie lasted nearly two hours, during which Kylie sat at the back of the cinema either laughing out loud or sobbing.

Afterwards the star, wearing a Dolce & Gabbana satin cream gown sprinkled with £500,000 of Swarovski crystals, said: “I didn’t know if I’d make it through that screening, it was very emotional making the documentary and even more so watching it.”

The documentary follows Kylie’s emotional comeback after being diagnosed with breast cancer in 2005.

But the singer revealed she took a lot of persuading to do the film, adding: “It wasn’t my idea, it was William Baker’s. I canned it five times before this. I was hoodwinked basically because I really tried to get out of it. But he said, ‘This is who you are and we all love you for who you are’.

“There was a time when I’d been stripped of everything and depended on nothing, and I felt like I had everything in terms of love and support, and I think that had a lot to do with me agreeing to this.”

Kylie was overwhelmed with the thousands of people who came out in the rain last night to see her. She told us: “I said to Willie in the car, ‘What if there are only six people here’, but I’m overwhelmed.

“These people have been so patient, not just tonight but for a long time and they’ve given me a lot of support on my road to recovery.”

[From The Daily Mail]

Kylie’s sister Danii and her good friend, the filmmaker William Baker, were at the premiere with her, but she was not accompanied by a romantic interest. Kylie says she’s single and that when her manager recently asked her “are you sure you’re not with anyone?” she said “If you can get me someone that’d be great.”

I’m sure there are hoards of men who would like to take Kylie out, but only a few who are good enough for her. (And I mean that like she deserves a great guy, not that she’s super picky, but if she is then more power to her.)

Kylie Minogue’s documentary White Diamond will be in limited release at Vue cinemas in the UK, after which it will be available on DVD.

Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures of Kylie.

Angelina Jolie on bump watch

People are saying Angelina Jolie is pregnant after photographs came out of her this weekend looking like she was sporting a growing baby bump. At last night’s Assassination of Jesse James premiere in NY there wasn’t as pronounced a bump, but she no longer looks scary skinny and had a thicker middle than you would expect for someone so thin. Brad has been dropping hints all over the place, and said in a recent interview that they have to get a bigger bed so their growing brood can fit into it, so I would bet she is pregnant:

“We’re not done,” Pitt, 43, quipped, acknowledging public interest in the family’s growth. “They say, ‘Any plans for a fifth?’ And I say, ‘And a sixth, and a seventh, and an eighth, and a ninth.’ That’s my answer.”

“We also made a 9-foot-wide bed” that fits him, Jolie, 32, and all four children, Pitt who is starring in The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford, told the Associated Press. “Just big enough. One more and we’ll have to go to 11 feet.”

[From People.com]

Pitt also spoke about the downside of fame, saying there have been unbalanced people around them and some scary episodes that make him concerned for the safety of his family. He said that they can’t really go anywhere due to the hoards of paparazzi that surround them like flies:

“We just take turns and make sure we keep the family together,” Pitt said, adding in an interview with USA Today, “It’s impossible for us. We’re run out of every major city. There’s just too many paparazzi. There’s always cameras in the kids’ faces, yelling their names.”

Although he doesn’t pack a six-shooter like his latest screen character Jesse James, Pitt admits he’s concerned about “how to survive and how to maintain a family life.”

“I understand the essence of paranoia. I understand being hunted, to some degree. It’s rare, but there are imbalanced people out there. I’ve had break-ins in the house,” Pitt said. “I’ve had some of these abnormal incidents that can be a bit frightening.

“It’s something that I want to be aware of and be cautious about, especially with the family, that everybody’s protected,” he told the AP.

[From People.com]

With Angelina maybe-pregnant, it’s not going to get any better for them. She looks quite happy, and it’s a change from her frosty look at some premieres in the recent past. I would guess that she’s expecting. Star Magazine is calling her pregnant on the latest cover, saying she had a “secret visit to [a] baby doc,” but I would bet they’re just speculating like we are.

I have a three year old, and although I have good help that allows me to work, it’s still a huge responsibility and I’m not ready for another one yet. One of my friends has five kids and she manages with schedules and chore sheets. It’s much more than a full time job for her, and I don’t know how she does it, but all of her kids are in school now so at least she has some time off.

Brad and Angelina certainly have the resources to have good help for their children, and they’re very hands-on parents. It must be crazy at their house with all those little ones despite all the space, although it sounds like that’s just the way they like it.

Brad has recently praised his co-star Mary Louise Parker’s adoption of an infant girl from Africa. He said she brought her little boy on the set of The Assassination of Jesse James and called her “a really lovely mother.” He said he thought it was a great idea that she adopted.

The Kingdom premiere with Jennifer Garner, Will Smith and Jada Pinkett Smith

The stars were out for the premiere of the new terrorism-themed film The Kingdom in LA on Monday. Jennifer Garner looked stunning in a loose red dress with tiered layers. Jada Pinkett Smith’s outfit was a definite miss, though. She wore fuschia satin shorts paired with a matching jacket. She loves bright colors and looks great in simple dresses with shocking colors, but her look was just wrong. Her husband Will looked hot though in a quilted black leather jacket, shades and dark jeans.

I saw the trailer for this movie during one of my rare nights out when my husband and I went to see The Bourne Supremacy. It looks like a good intelligent thriller, and centers around FBI agents, played by Jamie Foxx, Jennifer Garner, Jason Bateman and Chris Cooper, trying to capture a lead terrorist after a civilian attack on the US. Watching the trailer gave me goosebumps and it hit too close to home for me as I lived right near NY when 9/11 happened. I’m not sure theater-goers are ready for that with the war still going on and touching so many people. (Not that there is any connection between the war and 9/11. It’s just that too many people have died recently through random acts of terrorism, and there’s a lot of that in this movie.) It looks like it provides the riveting story of the capture of a top terrorist, but I don’t think I would be able to watch it, even on DVD.

Here’s the trailer:

The Kingdom is getting decent reviews, and is said to be an action-packed film with a tight plot. It currently has a 60% aggregate critics rating on Rotten Tomatoes. The Kingdom is out in US theaters on September 28.

Shown at the premiere are Jennifer Garner, Will and Jada Pinkett Smith, a hot-looking pregnant Garcelle Beauvais-Nilon, Jeremy Piven looking beat, Amanda Peet, Jamie Foxx, Chris Cooper, and Jason Bateman. Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures.

Mandy Moore morphs into Drew Barrymore; shuts down party to go to bed

When I saw the thumbnail picture for this photoset of the Dedication premiere, I wasn’t sure who it was right away and I assumed I was looking at some young British celebrity that’s vaguely familiar but whom I couldn’t place. Then when I looked further and realized it was Mandy Moore, I thought “why did she do that to herself?”

I get that she wants to change her look and is going for sultry and mysterious, it’s written all over her pouty mouth, but berry lipgloss with light sparkly eyeshadow? A dress with a built-in corset? It’s like she’s going to the prom and got her makeup at CVS. (Although you can do a hell of a lot better with drugstore makeup than this.) Either she’s working with JLo’s fired makeup artist or she tried to do her own makeup based on some high school formula of pretty. She looks a lot like Drew Barrymore here, who also looks good at premieres but has suffered from bad makeup choices in the past.

Her eyebrows are shaped well, I’ll give her that.

Overall the look is Hot Topic meets Forever 21, it’s too young and goofy-looking.

Mandy Moore is one of the better young celebrities, I really like her and I know she stays out of the spotlight and doesn’t party all the time or sleep around. It would be remiss of me if I didn’t take her to task for this look, though. Hire a decent expert to help you, Mandy, please. You are gorgeous and just need to accent it properly.

Mandy Moore recently said that she’s not going to go off the deep end and do drugs or get wasted every night. She said she’s only been drunk four times in her life and that drugs aren’t for her.

She said: “I’ve probably been drunk, maybe, four times in my entire life. Honestly. I guess I’m a bit of a lightweight.

“I have a better time enjoying one glass of wine and just being relaxed. It’s a bit of a control thing - I don’t like not being in control of my words. I like to go to bed at 10pm, or 10.30pm, because I like to wake up at 7am…”

She added: “Maybe for some people drink and drugs work for them, but I’m not a tortured artist. I wouldn’t turn to some sort of substance to make me feel better, I’d turn to writing.”

[Monsters and Critics]

It definitely sounds true that Mandy likes an early bedtime. The Enquirer also had an amusing story a couple of weeks ago about Mandy kicking people out of a house party in the Hamptons when she wanted to go to bed. It wasn’t even her house!

During a party at a mansion owned by the Manhattan club, Stereo, Mandy dropped in to surprise her ex-boyfriend, Adam “DJ AM” Goldstein, according to insiders. “Mandy instituted a ton of rules and restrictions,” divulged a source. “She stayed upstairs with DJ AM and refused to come downstairs for a barbeque….”

She returned to the house with DJ AM, but went straight to bed alone - and her early bedtime prohibited late-night swimming in the estate’s outdoor pool.

“People were told Mandy didn’t want a lot of noise and that she was very sensitive to sounds while she was sleeping,” confided the source.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, August 6, 2007]

It’s nice hearing about a star who’s a diva for going to bed early and not partying too hard. If only she could get her look straight. It’s not that bad, just not suited to her.

Mandy is shown at the premiere of her romantic comedy, Dedication, with Billy Crudup in NY last night. The film is out in limited release on August 24.

11th Hour Premiere: Saving the environment is saving our own asses

Leonardo DiCaprio’s celebrity friends and supporters were out at the premiere of his environmental film The 11th Hour in Hollywood yesterday. The documentary urges us to make a difference in the state of our planet now, in the 11th hour, as it’s almost too late. With existing technology and a concerted effort the film asserts that we can ensure that our planet remains sustainable. It’s not about saving the environment so much as ensuring the continued survival of the human race.

In an interview with Entertainment Tonight, DiCaprio explains that it takes him just 15 minutes to get ready for a premiere. He says the film explores how we can make a difference in our world and that by interviewing experts he thinks that 11th Hour explains it in a way that is unique while focusing on change:

“How long does it take me? Usually 15 minutes, something like that,” Leo says about getting red-carpet ready. “And then it’s about putting the suit on. I don’t have a stylist — usually it’s my assistant who tells me to put this on and I go, ‘Okay.’

But before Leo walks out the door, there’s one crucial tool he can’t forget: “What do I not leave the house without? My cell phone!”

As for the new movie, the award-winning environmentalist star gives ET the lowdown…

“It’s not just global warming, it’s not just a loss of biodiversity, it’s not just the pollution of our oceans and the clearing of our rainforests and all these complicated systems,” Leo tells ET. “[The movie] talks about the world economy, it talks about politics, it talks about personal transformation and environmental consciousness that we need to have in this generation to implement a lot of these changes that need to occur.”

The movie, which features Leo as narrator, explores what it will take for humans to make a difference ecologically before it’s too late. Top scientists like STEPHEN HAWKING and leaders like former Soviet Union President MIKHAIL GORBACHEV are interviewed for the documentary.

“It’s a very, very daunting issue and it was a lot to, as filmmakers, wrap our head around,” says Leo, “but thankfully we got some of the most important people in the forefront of a lot of these issues to really explain it in a way that I don’t think has been done before, and that’s what I’m proud of.”

[From ETOnline]

Here’s a clip especially created for YouTube with a preview from the film. The first expert who speaks really brings it home with this statement: “The environment is going to survive, we’re the ones who are not going to survive, or we may survive in a world we don’t particularly want to live in.”

Here’s the trailer for the film. It looks really moving.

The 11th Hour is out in theaters on August 17.

Pictured at the premiere are Leonardo DiCaprio looking like he’s lost a little weight, Kate Bosworth, looking healthy, and DiCaprio’s good friends and fellow environmentalists Tobey Maguire and Adrian Grenier. Thanks to WENN for these photos.

Bourne Ultimatum Premiere

Matt Damon was flanked by the two women in his life, his mother and his wife, at the premiere of The Bourne Ultimatum in Hollywood last night. It will be the third installment in the excellent Bourne series, and will be the last starring Damon. He has ruled out appearing in another sequel:

Amidst telling the press that he feels “a bit like a prostitute for putting out two number threes in one year” (to which George Clooney added, “That’s better than three number twos”), Damon said (regarding the Bourne franchise): “I’m definitely done with that. I think we’ve ridden that horse as far as we can. The character lives on in the books and if someone else wanted to play it, I guess they could.”

[Cinematical.com]

To me the Bourne series is so excellent that I don’t think it would hurt Damon’s career to continue playing the character. You can see why he’d want to move on, though.

Damon credits the first Bourne movie, The Bourne Identity, with saving his career. He says he was working in theater, hadn’t done a film in six months before it came out and that his last two movies had tanked. After the film came out to box office and critical acclaim he started getting offers again.

He also says it was harder to play action hero this time around. He said when the first movie came out he was 29, and that at 36 he “felt his age” when working on some of the fight scenes for Ultimatum.

He said: “There was a huge difference in the fighting stuff. The first movie, ‘The Bourne Identity’, came out when I was 29. For the third one I was 36 and I definitely felt my age.

“In one big fight scene in Tangiers, Joey Ansah, the guy I’m fighting, is only 23. He would have been in high school when the first film came out!”

[From Monsters and Critics]

The Bourne Ultimatum is out in theaters on August 3.

Here are pictures from the premiere including Julia Stiles, Jennifer Garner and Ben Affleck. Thanks to Splash News and PRPhotos.

Anne Hathaway at the “Becoming Jane” premiere

Anne Hathaway is so darn purty at the premiere of “Becoming Jane” in New York last night. (I’m sorry for the hackneyed spelling, but it takes some of the sting out of it for me if I write it like that.) She’s the perfect mix of minx and girl next door in that tight dress. Despite how low cut it is you know she won’t ever fall out of it, and that what makes it so kick ass. Her fashion in the past has been hit or miss so it’s nice to see her get it perfectly right. I would like to see Hathaway get more attention from the paparazzi and press, but maybe she realizes what a double-edged sword that is and deliberately stays away from the Hollywood scene.

Hathaway has a clean cut image and she’s capitalizing on it with a recent endorsement campaign. The 24 year-old actress is going to represent Active Estates, a planned retirement community! I wonder how they’ll explain her involvement. Does she have a grandparent that she’ll be visiting?

Despite how drama-free she seems, there is some scandal in Hathaway’s life. Her longterm boyfriend, 28 year-old Italian property developer Raffaello Follieri, has been accused of misusing corporate funds to keep Hathaway in the lavish lifestyle to which she’s become accustomed.

Becoming Jane is the story of novelist Jane Austin’s romance with an Irishman before she became famous. It is out in theaters on August 10. Here’s the trailer. The music sounds straight out of Sense and Sensibility:

Thanks to WENN for these photos.

The Simpsons Movie Premiere: Can you guess who voices which character?

It’s a novelty to find pictures of a big movie premiere in which the celebrities aren’t that recognizable. I love the Simpsons and watch it all the time but I never really knew who voiced what, except for the crazy Scientologist chick who does Bart.

Here are pictures from the premiere, but we’ll do something different today. Rather than show the thumbnails first here’s a list of the voice characters with a link to pictures of the person who voices them.

Homer Simpson (also does Grampa Abraham Simpson, Barney Gumble, Krusty the Clown, Groundskeeper Willie, Mayor Quimby, Hans Moleman, Sideshow Mel, Itchy, Kodos, Gil, Poochie, Squeaky-Voiced Teen, Burn’s Lawyer, Mr. Teeny, Bill Clinton.)

Bart Simpson (also does Nelson Muntz, Todd Flanders, Ralph Wiggum, Kearney, Database.)

Marge Simpson (also does Patty and Selma)

Lisa Simpson

Milhouse Van Houten (also does Rod Flanders, Janey Powell, Jimbo Jones, Malibu Stacy, Sarah Wiggum.)

Apu Nahasapeemapetilon (also does Moe Szyslak, Chief Clancy Wiggum, Comic Book Guy, Lou, Carl, Dr. Nick Riviera, Snake, Kirk Van Houten, Captain McCallister, Bumblebee Man, Superintendent Chalmers, Professor Frink, Cletus, Dredrick Tatum.)

There were also a lot of celebrities at the premiere and it looks like they had a great time walking the yellow carpet. To start, here are thumbnails of the voice characters:

Others at the premiere included Simpsons creator Matt Groening, Patricia Heaton and her family, Kevin Smith, Ed McMahon, Lisa Leslie and her family, Lisa Edelstein, Albert Brooks, David Hasselhoff and his daughters, Marilu Henner, Ian Ziering, Fred Willard, and Dr. Phil with his son.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry premiere

Adam Sandler and Kevin James star in I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, a film about two straight Brooklyn firemen who try to act like they’re a couple in order to get domestic partner benefits. Jessica Biel also stars, and I just bet she’s what blows their cover.

Here’s the trailer:

It looks kind of funny but it could also be dumb and overdone. It’s directed by Dennis Dugan, who also directed Happy Gilmore, Big Daddy, and Saving Silverman.

I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry is out in theaters on July 20.

Also shown at the premiere are Katherine McPhee, Steve Buscemi, Ian Ziering, and Anna Faris, who looks nothing like she used to. Thanks to PRPhotos. Stills from the film are also shown, and these are from AllMoviePhoto.
