Since everyone enjoyed hearing about Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel’s recent familial addition, I thought we’d have a nice follow-up on it. Victoria gave birth to a baby girl last week, and by all accounts, Victoria and Daniel kept the baby princess’s delivery very low-key, simply checking into a private suite in a normal Stockholm hospital. Prince Daniel came out and gave the announcement, adorably referring to his daughter as a “very cute princess.” Days after the birth, the royal couple announced their daughter’s name: Princess Estelle Silvia Ewa Mary, named after her grandmothers. Princess Estelle even has an official title too: the Duchess of Ostergotland. Anyway, Victoria and Daniel just released three photos of baby Estelle on their website – she’s so cute!! She’s adorable. I love that they released the photos on a website too, and that the photos just look like pics that Daniel took of his daughter and he just wanted to share with some friends. Because they’re on the website, we can use them – it’s not a formal photo shoot sold to some magazine. Yay! A wonderful “common touch”. And Princess Estelle is gorgeous too.

Oh, and I finally got a chance to watch Prince Daniel’s wedding toast to his wife. It’s really beautiful. He’s a very kind, sentimental man who fell in love with a princess. It’s pretty awesome.

Yay! I kind of forgot that Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria was pregnant, so it came as such a pleasant surprise this morning when I saw that Victoria had given birth. Victoria and her husband, Prince Daniel (a commoner and former personal trainer), announced her pregnancy last August. Daniel was allowed to come out and speak to the press after Victoria gave birth overnight… to a girl! Yay! Victoria will be queen of Sweden after her father, and now her daughter is second in line to the throne. Sweden doesn’t make it all about the male heirs – whomever is born first is next in line to the throne! Anyway, Prince Daniel seemed really sweet and really proud when he spoke to the press, describing his daughter as “a very cute princess.”

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria has given birth to the first royal baby in three decades. Her husband, Prince Daniel, announced the birth of his daughter this morning. Daniel said the baby was born overnight at 4:26 a.m. (0326 GMT) at the Karolinska University Hospital in Solna, a suburb of Stockholm.

The emotional prince held up his hands to show how big she was, said she tipped the scales at 7lb 3oz. Mother and child are doing well.

The baby girl is now second in line to the throne of Sweden, as the first grandchild of the king and queen, the court said on its website. Her mother is first.

The father, Prince Daniel — the former personal trainer of the crown princess — was present at the Karolinska hospital in Stockholm during the birth, the court said.

The child’s name will be announced Friday or Saturday, her father said.

Visibly moved, the prince described the baby as “a very cute princess” in an appearance on Swedish television Thursday morning.

“Well, when I came down from the room, the little princess was laying on her mother’s chest, and it looked like they were having a very cozy time, so it was hard to take my eyes off them,” he said on CNN affiliate TV4.

“The Crown Princess is feeling fantastic, she is so happy and everything has worked out well and the little daughter and the Crown Princess are feeling very well,” he said.

Admitting he was “very nervous” during the birth, he said “everything has worked out well,” and thanked the hospital staff for the “wonderful care they have provided us.”

“And I would also like to thank everyone who for the last nine months have shared our joy, which we have really appreciated,” he said.

He added that his father-in-law, King Carl XVI Gustaf, and mother-in-law, Queen Silvia, ‘are very happy’ about the birth.

In August last year, the Royal Court announced that Victoria was pregnant and expected to give birth in early 2012. Victoria, 34, is next in line to the throne. Her father has been king since 1973. The Swedish monarch is primarily a figurehead, representing the country as the head of state but without political power.

The royal family has recently been shrouded in controversy. In 2010 a book claimed that King Carl XVI Gustaf had a playboy lifestyle. The King denied the allegations in a rare interview in May 2011 but also apologised for undermining trust in the monarchy. It is hoped that a new royal baby will restore the Swedish people’s faith in the monarchy.

So sweet. I’m not aware of any controversy surrounding Victoria and Daniel – they were another couple (like Prince William and Kate Middleton) who waited years and years to marry. But unlike Will and Kate, Daniel seemed to spend his time, pre-royal engagement, in heavy royal training, and he hit the ground running as soon as they were married. I really like Daniel – he seems like a really good guy, and they seem solid as a couple. I’m so happy they had a princess!!

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria is knocked up! YAY! Royal babies. It was back in June of last year that Victoria married gym-owner Daniel Westling after they had dated for nine years. Daniel became Prince Daniel, and by most accounts, he’s been doing very well as a member of Swedish royal family over the past 14 months or so. And now he “did his duty” and knocked up his wife. Huzzah!

A new royal baby is on the horizon.

Crown Princess Victoria of Sweden is expecting her first child in the spring, the Swedish palace has confirmed.

Victoria, 34, and former personal trainer Daniel Westling, 37, got married just over a year ago, in June 2010. In April, they were among the royal guests at the wedding of William and Kate at London’s Westminster Abbey.

“Their Royal Highnesses the Crown Princess Victoria and Prince Daniel are happy to announce that the Crown Princess is expecting their first child,” the palace said in a statement. “The birth is expected to take place in March of 2012. No changes in the schedule of the Crown Princess’s public engagements are planned during the fall of 2011.”

I like Victoria a great deal, and I like that she and Daniel seem to be pretty low-key, serving their country at home and abroad with little muss or fuss. Daniel seems like a nice guy, and I hope their pregnancy goes well and everybody is happy and healthy the whole way through. Also: Daniel and I have the same eyeglass frames, I think. His look better!

By the way, do you think Victoria just stole Duchess Kate’s baby-thunder? (Sidenote: “Baby Thunder” should be the name of a band. Or a baby blog.) I don’t know what to think about Kate’s fertility and whether she’s already pregnant or whatever. I think Kate will get pregnant within her first year of marriage, but I don’t think it’s happening yet.

Sweden’s Crown Princess Victoria got married on Saturday. What do you think of her dress? I really like it. Clean lines, very pretty, not frumpy or frilly. Very classic and lovely. She and her fiancé-now-husband, Daniel Westling, had been engaged since February of last year, so it was a nice, long engagement and there was plenty of time to plan out a lavish ceremony and reception. Victoria and Daniel been together for something crazy like nine years – and he’s a commoner, and a gym owner. But his good heart and noble intentions grew on the Swedish people and Victoria’s family, and their wedding seems like one of the big events of Europe’s social calendar. Although… maybe Victoria shouldn’t have done the thing right in the middle of the World Cup?

In regal and triumphant fanfare, Sweden’s next Queen, Crown Princess Victoria tied the knot on June 19 in the largest royal wedding since Charles and Diana. In Stockholm Cathedral, 1,200 royal guests and dignitaries watched the nuptials, along with 500,000 people who lined the streets, and an estimated 500 million TV viewers from around the world. Yet the princess only had eyes for her groom, Daniel Westling – now Prince Daniel, as she calmly spoke her vows, tenderly wiped a tear from his eyes after exchanging rings, and at one point, even winked at him during the service.

The radiant and beaming 32-year old bride walked down the aisle on the arm of her father, the king, in a cream-colored duchess satin gown with short sleeves and an off-the -shoulder, rounded neckline. Designed by Pär Engsheden, the dress has a V-shaped back and a 16.5 foot train fastened from the waist. Topping off the look, as everyone predicted, was the Cameo tiara which the bride’s mother, Queen Silvia, also wore to her own wedding on the same day in 1976. Made of gold, pearls and cameos, the tiara’s center cameo depicts Cupid and Psyche from Greek mythology. Cameo drop earrings and a cameo and pearl bracelet completed the look.

Daniel looked very cute too – he seems kind of dorky, but authentic. And he seems to adore her too, so good for them. Victoria’s younger sister Madeleine (who recently dumped her cheating fiancée) was in attendance (she’s the pretty blonde in blue), as was her brother Carl Philip, who, let’s just admit it, is a total babe. I heart Carl Philip. He’s even cuter than Prince Harry. Look at this gorgeous man:
