Rachel Weisz looks like death warmed over at ‘Lovely Bones’ premiere

wenn2684274

Just for the record, I’m not hating on Rachel Weisz. I love Rachel. I think she’s amazingly talented and cool, and I wish she would make more movies. Also, for the record, I’m not hating on pale girls. Not everyone has to be tan. Not everyone has to be fake-bake orange. I like that Rachel is a pale girl, and proud of her pale skin. That being said, pale girls do have to be hyper-aware of what colors and makeup styles wash them out to the point of looking like a walking corpse. Just for equal opportunity slamming – I have dark, olive skin, and I have to avoid lots of greens, yellows and oranges because those colors make me look like I have jaundice. All’s fair.

So Rachel chose poorly for her makeup and her dress. The makeup would have been easily repaired had Rachel avoided the bright red lipstick that only accentuates her pale skin, making her look washed out. As for the dress… well, this thing is a mess. Bad cut, bad style, bad color (for Rachel), bad length, bad fit, you get the idea. Just a crappy choice. Rachel’s hair looks pretty, though. Shiny and healthy. My hair is the same length, and I really like the length.

Despite Rachel’s deathly visage at the premiere, I’m still looking forward to The Lovely Bones. I was thrilled when Rachel was cast – she’s absolutely perfect for the mother of the murdered girl. Unfortunately, the film keeps getting bad reviews. If you’re familiar with the book, you know that nothing about the story really says “suspense thriller/crime drama”. But that’s what they’ve made the film into – which kind of sucks. Hopefully, beyond that plot problem, the rest of the film might be good. Fingers crossed.

Once again, here’s the trailer for The Lovely Bones:

Rachel Weisz: Botox should be banned for actors, like steroids for athletes

fp_3022300_ang_weisz_rachel
Rachel Weisz, 39, is calling out actors and actresses who are destroying their faces with Botox. In a new interview in Harper’s Bazaar UK (story via Fox News), Rachel says that Botox should be “banned”. What’s funny is that it seems Rachel is purposefully refusing to call out specific actors, but Fox News has no problem naming one… cough cough Nicole Kidman cough. Fox News, in a particularly cheeky way, claims that Rachel thinks “Nicole Kidman is to acting what Barry Bonds is to baseball.” Chuckle.

Rachel Weisz thinks Nicole Kidman is to acting what Barry Bonds is to baseball. At least that’s what the “Mummy” star tells the August issue of the UK edition of Harper’s Bazaar.

“It should be banned for actors, as steroids are for sportsmen,” Weisz says of Botox. “Acting is all about expression; why would you want to iron out a frown?”

The London-born Oscar-winner (you can tell she’s from there because she uses the word “sportsmen”) also says she’s much more comfortable back in jolly old England than she is in appearance-obsessed America.

“I love the way girls in London dress; it’s so different to the American “blow-dry and immaculate grooming” thing,” she says.

But she is comfortable with traditional female roles. Very traditional.

Married to director Darren Aronofsky, she says “I am cave-woman to his man – man.”

[From Fox News]

I’m not sure how one would enforce a Botox ban, but I’d like to see Rachel try. I’d imagine it would involve trying to wrestle the needle out of Nicole’s cold, dead hand. In another interview excerpt, Rachel describes how she lives by Tom Cruise, and the paparazzi often mistake her for him:

Rachel Weisz gets mistaken for Tom Cruise.

The Oscar-winning actress claims she isn’t famous enough to be followed by paparazzi in Hollywood, and only gets snapped by people looking for the Valkyrie star, who lives close to her.

She explained to Britain’s Harper’s Bazaar magazine: “Sometimes the paparazzi, on the lookout for Tom Cruise who lives nearby, trickle onto my street, take a few pictures of me, and disappear. But I never feel hounded.”

“I am really not on that level of fame. I go on the subway and I can walk my son Henry to school. I have never had a problem, except maybe briefly when I won the Oscar and gave birth to Henry in quick succession. Then suddenly everyone was interested. Having those lenses coming up towards you when you’re holding this little bundle in your arms is frightening.”

[From The Age]

I could see it. Rachel and Tom Cruise has very similar coloring. If Tom Cruise dressed up in drag (and I’m not saying he does, but wouldn’t that be something?) he would look a lot like Rachel. I wonder if she and Tom ever hang out. I wonder if her disgust with Botox really is related to Nicole Kidman and Rachel’s some kind of closeted Team Cruise person. Praise Xenu, we have a conspiracy!

Rachel Weisz is shown in Cannes on 5/17 and 5/18/09. She is shown with her fiance, Darren Aronofsky. Credit: Fame Pictures. Nicole Kidman is shown on 12/10/08 and 12/13/08.

Ryan Reynolds makes all other men on the planet seem unromantic

Ryan Reynolds might be known for, actually I have no idea what he is known for. Except dating Alanis Morissette, and now Scarlett Johansson, and being really cute. Really cute. He’s also out promoting a new romantic comedy, and is keen to share his romantic credentials.

Ryan said: “It was a few years ago, but I once flew all the way to London to have lunch with this girl I was dating.

“She lived in the UK and I was in the US obviously. We had just started dating and didn’t really get to see as much of each other as we would have like to because of the distance and work. So I just jumped on a plane to be with her.”

Despite his splashing out on the grand romantic gesture, Ryan refused to pick up the tab for lunch.

He added to Britain’s Heart radio station: “I had to leave the very same day so it was pretty romantic but expensive. I made her buy the sandwich though!”

Sydney Morning Herald

Aw, this is just like in the movies. Which makes me suspect that it might actually just be a clever ploy to get us thinking all lovely and romantic and in the mood to see his latest flick Definitely Maybe. Is this cynical of me? Should we just accept that Ryan Reynolds is an incurable romantic, good, kind and strong, and this is just the kind of thing he’d do? Or should we declare it a shrewd marketing ploy, like how Hollywood is forever creating fictional relationships that ours in reality can’t match?

Ryan indirectly explained how he became such a sensitive guy. He was the youngest of four brothers and empathized with his mother’s plight at dealing with a house full of testosterone:

It didn’t help that Reynolds grew up as the youngest in a family where his father and two of his three brothers are very tall policemen. Maybe they could help out if he ever gets into trouble?

“I doubt that. If I ever get into trouble I’m f—ed. Those guys will see to it. I think their dream is to arrest me. They’re my brothers – it’s their job to some degree to make my life hell. I would never give them that satisfaction.”

How did he live with all that testosterone and turn out to be such a sensitive guy? “I have no idea. I think it was having empathy for my mother, who was dealing with these five horrific ogres in our house all the time. Having that empathy for her has fostered a sensitivity in me.”

Sydney Morning Herald

Under that romantic exterior he’s got some testosterone in his system, and he probably picked up some of his brother’s naughty tricks. And like every good tough guy, he won’t stand a word against his mother.

Ryan must be doing something right. He’s going home at night to Scarlett Johansson.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Here are stills from Definitely, Maybe thanks to Allmoviephoto. Ryan’s costars Elizabeth Banks, Rachel Weisz, Isla Fisher and Abigail Breslin are also shown. Definitely Maybe is out in US theaters on February 14. Here’s the trailer, it looks cute:

More gorgeous photos by Annie Leibovitz for Disney

Annie Leibovitz has shot another series of celebrity advertisements for the Disney Parks. Her last set of images drew praise for the creative way it brought Disney fantasy to life. Scarlet Johansson was Cinderella fleeing the ball in a flowing gown, David Beckham was Prince Phillip on his bucking steed, and Beyonce, Lyle Lovett and Oliver Pratt were Alice, the Mad Hatter and the The March Hare sitting on the famed teacups.

The latest photos are equally impressive. Rachel Weisz is a lovely Snow White in congress with the birds and animals, Julie Andrews and Abigail Breslin are fairies, and tennis great Roger Federer is King Arthur removing the sword from the stone.

My son hasn’t gone to Disney World yet, but if grandma has her way he will soon. It’s a fun, extremely well-crafted amusement park, but it’s still a pain in the ass dragging your kid around for an entire day, waiting in line, and walking everywhere. You can put celebrities in perfect costumes and add wind and props and it does evoke a feeling of other-worldliness and relaxation. These photos are beautiful, but if I want a fantasy experience I know I should be going to the spa, not to an amusement park with my family.

Here are the latest advertisements, which will run in US magazines in December. Rachel Weisz and Roger Federer are also shown on set. Thanks to The Daily Mail via ONTD for these photos.

Sin City 2 rumors have Rachel Weisz or Rose McGowan replacing Angelina

Angelina Jolie was slated to play the role of Ava Lord in Sin City 2, where production was said to be delayed to wait until her schedule opened up. Now she’s said to be out of the film, and rumor has it that either Rachel Weisz or Rose McGowan will replace her, with most movie sites favoring Rose McGowan:

It has been suggested to me by one of the handful of anonymous Sin City sequel pre-production staff that contributed to a very hotly contested earlier film ick story, that Robert Rodriguez was considering a replacement for Angelina Jolie in the Dame to Kill For cast list. It wasn’t anything other than hearsay, really, coming from a single source and with no evidence presented in back up, so I didn’t report it. This morning, though, it has taken one step closer to being actual, real news.

Several sites have picked up on Cinema Blend’s original suggestion that Jolie is to be replaced by Rachel Weisz in the next Sin City’s lineup. That was certainly news to me – and I suspect it may well be news to Rodriguez and company too. Who knows what’s really going on as regards Sin City 2? So many conflicting reports – to which, I admit, I am adding, though with the best intentions.

But Weisz wasn’t the name I was given. I was told that Rose McGowan was the preferred replacement for Ava Lord. As I said – there was nothing to back this up, even if it did come from somebody related to the production.

People think McGowan is slated for the role because she already has a connection with directors, and is appearing in Grindhouse, also with Tarantino and Rodriguez.

The drastic change in her looks suggests there’s something to the rumors that McGowan has a serious coke problem. She also looks like she’s had some bad work done on her face as there’s a weird sagging thing going on under her right eye. I didn’t see Sin City 1, but it seems like a drugged out actress would fit well with the dark violence in the film.

Pictures from Gossip Rocks.

Update: Well it looks like this Rose McGowan thing is just a rumor. My source is the link above, but others seem to be saying that Rachel is favored for the role. I bet it’s all conjecture at this point.

Penelope Cruz, Rachel Weisz, Jessica Biel & Eva Longoria

The only dress that I find striking in this group is Jessica Biel’s. She looks gorgeous in this simple white beaded dress with clean lines and a flattering cut. Her upswept hair, understated makeup, and matching earrings all compliment the look perfectly.

Penelope Cruz is lovely as usual, but I’m not digging her her southern belle of a black dress.

Eva Longoria doesn’t look bad, but her eye makeup is overdone and I don’t like the beading or the shape of her dress.

Rachel Weisz needs some more accessories to go with this monochromatic dress, and she should work it a little more on the red carpet.

I am sitting here in jeans and a tank top, and am in no way qualified to judge these gorgeous women, or any of the other celebrities I diss on a daily basis.

Rachel Weisz says it’s ok to drink while you’re preggers

Rachel Weisz drew collective gasps from prenatal experts everywhere by saying she’s of the mind that it’s ok to have an occasional glass of wine while you’re pregnant.

In Europe they supposedly say it’s ok to have an odd glass of wine while you’re pregnant, which is how Weisz defended her statement. In America, though, it’s strictly forbidden and even most European obstetricians advise against it:

Oscar-winnng actress Rachel Weisz has sparked controversy by saying it is acceptable for pregnant women to drink alcohol.

The 35-year-old, who recently gave birth to her first child, said she thought it was “fine” for expectant mothers to have a glass of wine after the first three months.

British-born Miss Weisz added: “I mean in Europe they drink it”.

Her comments, which were made while she promoted her latest movie The Fountain, were immediately criticised by medical experts who described them as “ill-informed” and “dangerous”.

The Government is currently reviewing guidelines on drinking alcohol when pregnant after experts warned that even very small amounts could result in Foetal Alcohol Syndrome which can lead to learning difficulties, poor co-ordination and attention deficit disorder.

Current UK guidelines say pregnant women can drink one or two units, the equivalent to one or two small glasses of wine or single measures of spirit, once or twice a week.

In the US and Canada complete abstinence from drinking is advised for expectant mothers.

Last night foetal alcohol syndrome specialist Dr Raja Mukherjee, of St George’s Hospital Medical School in London, said: “If Rachel Weisz has drunk during her pregnancy and the baby is fine then that’s just pure luck. The problem is that you don’t know who is at risk and who is not…

Miss Weisz, who won an Oscar last year for her role in The Constant Gardener made her comments in an interview in New York to publicise the film, in which she appears with actor Hugh Jackman.

Asked whether she thought a glass of wine was fine she replied: “Personally I do. They say not in the first three months though, but I think that after that it’s fine. I mean in Europe they drink it”.

Gwyneth Paltrow personally thanked her and took another sip of Guinness.

Rachel Weisz and her adorable baby

Rachel Weisz was snapped getting into a supposedly new Jeep in NY on 7/15. The pictures are captioned “Rachel Weisz and her new baby buy a new jeep,” but it’s hard to tell if the jeep is actually new.

Weisz may reprise her role as Brendon Frasier’s girlfriend in “The Mummy 3.”

She is said to want to keep her six-week old son, Henry Chance, out of show business, and talked about her too-early start:

“Big hair, big pout, really working the camera at just 13,” she remembers, “I certainly wouldn’t let my children do it.”

She looks fabulous and natural in these latest candids, and seems to be a hands-on mom. Also shown is her husband, director Darren Aronofsky. [via]

Rachel Weisz and Darren Aronofsky Baby Photos

Wireimage has these beautiful pictures of Rachel Weisz, Darren Aronofsky and their two-week old mystery baby. Oscar winner Weisz, 35, is engaged to director Aronofsky, whose work includes “Requiem for a Dream.” Wireimage didn’t even list the baby’s name in the captions for these pictures, simply calling him the couple’s son, but Rachel-Weisz.net says he’s called “Henry Chance,” which is quite normal for a celebrity baby.

Weisz must be a dedicated mommy because she didn’t even take time out to wash her hair for this photoshoot.

Update: Images removed upon request.

Rachel Weisz has a baby boy

Rachel Weisz had a baby boy, but didn’t reveal any details other than the fact that he’s out now:

Oscar winner Rachel Weisz has had a boy, the star’s rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

Mother, father (Darren Aronofsky), and child are healthy and happy, according to the rep.

Weisz, 35, is engaged to Brooklyn-born Requiem For a Dream director Aronofsky. This is the first child for the couple, who are based in New York.

Best wishes to Weisz and Aronofsky, and we hope they pick a non-traumatizing name for their little one. We’re sure to see the baby much sooner than non-existent Suri.

Here are some pictures of Weisz taken recently. [via]
