Reese Witherspoon covers the May issue of Vogue (a preview)

reesevogue1

Here is a little preview of Reese Witherspoon’s May cover of Vogue. I don’t really care for it – I liked her Elle Magazine UK photo shoot much better (although many of you thought she looked like a neckless wonder on Elle UK). Instead of Reese reading as “sultry” – which I think she was aiming for – she looks rather devious and sneaky. But I’ll hold off final judgment until I see the full shoot.

In other Reese news, she and her new husband finally went on their honeymoon! They’re apparently in Belize right now… and they brought Ava and Deacon, making it less of a honeymoon and more a family vacation. I mean… Ryan couldn’t watch the kids so that his ex and her new husband could have some alone time?

Happy honeymooners! Less than two weeks after tying the knot, newlyweds Reese Witherspoon and Jim Toth touched down in Belize for a romantic six-day honeymoon stay.

“They didn’t ask for any VIP treatment, walked off the plane like regular tourists, waited in the immigration line and waited to get their bags from the baggage carousel,” an eyewitness tells UsMagazine.com of the pair, who brought Witherspoon’s two kids, Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, along for the tropical getaway.

Witherspoon, 35, clad in a white T-shirt, jeans and a brown hat, went nearly unrecognized when the couple touched down in the Central American country April 4.

Adds the witness of the foursome, who browsed gift shops and visited other tourist attractions: “They definitely looked like a happy family. The kids seemed like they had no problem with him around.”

Sources close to the newlyweds — who swapped vows March 26 at Witherspoon’s 6-acre Ojai, Calif. ranch — tell Us they’re the perfect match. Says one pal of Toth, 40: “He’s a very confident guy who takes care of her.”

“[Reese] really wants to be married and have that security with someone,” another insider says. “They feel like they’ve hit the jackpot in this relationship!”

[From Us Weekly]

I really like Reese and I think this marriage will be great for her, and I genuinely think she’s going to get pregnant again very soon. BUT – I worry about her. I worry about her career, and I worry that Reese is perhaps shilling a bit too hard for her latest film, Water for Elephants. The People cover, the Hello! cover, the covers of two major fashion magazines, putting off the honeymoon just so she could do some extra promotion… we get it, Reese. You need a hit, and you’re selling, selling, selling. What happens if Water for Elephants bombs, though? What’s the worst that could happen? Reese’s asking price goes down? So she no longer makes $15-20 million, she makes $10 million? Is that so bad, honestly?

Reese Witherspoon: “Women need to be more supportive of each other”

reese2

I already had a preview of Reese Witherspoon’s Elle UK cover last week, but now we have some additional images from the cover shoot, as well as some additional quotes. It’s like what CB was talking about yesterday – Reese is shilling her wedding story and photos because she really wants Water for Elephants to be a big hit. She needs a hit, and she needs to keep being one of the top-grossing women in Hollywood. I don’t really know why she feels like she needs this all so badly, but she does, and she’s being really obvious about it. I tend to forgive Reese for the most part, though. I think because I buy her celebrity persona for the most part – she fronts (and actively cultivates) an image of herself that is anal-retentive, un-Hollywood, down-to-earth, and boring-mom. I genuinely think that’s who she is in real life, and I think that this shilling game is kind of new to her. Anyway, here are some additional highlights from Reese’s Elle interview:

Reese Witherspoon is candid about the entertainment industry, from rejection (“They can really kick ya, you know?”) to the pressure to always look perfect.

“I feel for these women,” she says. “The guys get dressed and it’s no big deal, and they’re there because they’ve given a great performance. For every woman it’s, ‘What is she wearing?’ And, ‘But did she wear that to the last awards show?’ And, ‘What will she wear to the next awards show?’ And none of it is about her performance or how hard she worked—and those are the women who did extraordinary work.”

“I’m not going to lie, it’s fun to watch. But at a certain point, I go, ‘Wait, strip it all down.’ These girls—I shouldn’t say girls, these women—worked really hard, really hard, and now it’s reduced to … ‘She looks frumpy.’ How hard we are on people who are just doing their best. When we start measuring women on their appearance … We’re just too hard on each other. Women need to be more supportive of each other, stop tearing each other apart. There’s plenty of room for all of us. There’s plenty of men for all of us. There’s plenty of jobs. There’s plenty of room! I really believe it. Another actress out there has a number-one movie? They’re going to make more movies about women. A female writer sells a script? They’re going to look at another script from another woman. The better one woman does, the better all women do.”

Miss Witherspoon is starring in a new film, released at the end of this month, called Water For Elephants, in which she plays glamorous circus star Marlena Rosenbluth alongside Robert Pattinson, who plays circus vet Jacob Jankowski. But she said that her life as an actress is not glamorous, especially when she works hard to juggle her career and motherhood.

She said: “There’s this fallacy that we can have it all. I get it often, ‘Oh, you have it all’ – and I don’t. It’s hard. And there are times I take two years off and I don’t work. And there are times I go to work and I feel sick because I can’t see my kids for five days. And it’s real hard to go. Work is important to me. The kids are important to me. My relationship’s important to me. But all three can’t be functioning at 100 per cent at all times.’

[From The Mail & Fashion Etc.]

Do I really think Reese is the pragmatic feminist that she seems to be selling in this interview? Eh. I think she wants to see more female-dominated stories in Hollywood, and I think she wants more women to work in Hollywood, but I suspect all of this Ra-Ra-Sisterhood stuff is more about Reese in particular wanting to work and Reese in particular wanting better scripts. All of the half-decent romantic comedy scripts are going to other actresses! Wah, feminism!!!

By the way, here’s Reese’s Hello! cover this week – I like this shot so much more than the People cover.

Reese Witherspoon’s wedding photos in People: tacky or romantic?

people_reesesdreamday
Back when we reported the news that Reese’s wedding was about to happen, I said I would love to see some photos. Given how private Reese is, I expected her to release a single posed wedding photo, probably through the Associated Press, and to be done with it. Reese has a whole photo spread coming out in this week’s People, though, and they just put the cover online. This confuses me for several reasons. First of all, it’s Monday and we usually don’t see the magazine covers until Wednesday. (Kaiser reminds me that they did that last week with Elizabeth Taylor’s memorial issue.) Also, it doesn’t seem like Reese at all! This is a move that “stars” like Carrie Underwood and Hilary Duff make. This isn’t something that an A-lister like Reese needs to make public. Did she get a payday for this photo spread and is she going to donate the money to charity? She doesn’t have to or anything, I just don’t get it!

Reese Witherspoon’s country-elegant March 26 wedding to Pennsylvania native Jim Toth, 40, mixed her Southern roots with inspiration from her 1920s ranch estate.

“Timeless California architecture, rustic materials and beautiful gardens,” says a pal, gave the actress the perfect storybook setting for her special day in Ojai, Calif.

Wearing a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier blush-hued gown with a Chantilly lace corset bodice and full tulle A-line skirt, Witherspoon, 35, “wowed,” says a guest. “She took your breath away.” The gown was adorned with a double-face silk satin ribbon with cascading silk flowers, which matched the dress of Witherspoon’s daughter Ava, 11, who served as maid of honor in her own custom Lhuillier.

The bride changed into a second Lhuillier design – a white silk minidress with a party skirt – for the reception.

“There was a real family feel,” a guest tells PEOPLE. “There was so much joy in the room and a lot of laughter,” adds another.

For exclusive photos of Reese’s wedding – and all the details of her emotional, joyful ceremony – pick up the new issue of PEOPLE, on newsstands Monday!

[From People]

There are more details of Reese’s semi-rustic kind of country-themed outdoor wedding in this earlier story. I’ll buy this issue tonight if I can find it in stores. I’m really looking forward to seeing Reese’s wedding photos, and I’m especially interested in the decor and feel of the reception. Still, I’m kind of shocked that she went this route. Maybe Jim convinced her to do it for her career. He does work for Creative Artists Agency after all.

Reese’s dress is pretty and I love her simple hair and makeup, but why can’t we see her new husband at all? Also, why did she wear a blush gown? Is she so traditional that she feels she doesn’t deserve a white gown for her second wedding? I still really like Reese, but this People cover doesn’t seem like her to me, nor does the fact that she’s been hanging out with Chelsea Handler. Congratulations though, and she’s definitely pleasing a lot of fans. Reese is currently promoting Water For Elephants, out April 22, and this ties in nicely with that. Kaiser reminds me that Reese’s last movie bombed (remember How Do You Know? That was all she put out last year) and that could also be motivating her to go public with her wedding photos.

Here’s Reese out shopping on 3/24. This was before she got married. Credit: WENN.com

Reese Witherspoon covers Elle UK, hangs out with Chelsea Handler

reese1

This is Reese Witherspoon’s cover for the May issue of Elle UK. She’s promoting Water For Elephants, so I’m thinking that Reese is going to be on the cover of several May issues. I like this shot a lot – Reese’s appeal is as a “normal” mom and now wife who is somehow beyond the average Hollywood junk. She’s usually styled as such too – big Southern hair, big smile, kind-of Southern, pageanty dresses. I like her when she changes it up – and this is such a sexy shot. Sexy, and clean and minimalist. Love it!

There are some excerpts from the Elle cover interview too – it sounds like Reese is really talking about marriage and Ryan and Jim… very interesting:

Reese Witherspoon tied the knot with Ryan Phillippe in 1999 when she was 23. They have daughter Ava, 11, and seven-year-old son Deacon together, but got divorced in 2007. Last weekend Reese married Hollywood agent Jim Toth at a ceremony in California. The two are very happy together, but that doesn’t mean Reese regrets her first wedding. She is still friends with Ryan and says being with him enriched her life.

“Oh, I was so, so young. I was, like, ridiculously young. I learnt a lot, though. It was a good opportunity for me to really find out what it means to be a partner and to be in a marriage and it’s not anything that I thought it was,” she told the May edition of UK magazine Elle. “You can’t say, ‘I don’t want to talk about that.’ You just can’t. You’ve got to talk about it all.”

Reese, 35, is amazed she’s managed to find happiness again. She was thrilled when Jim proposed at the end of last year, revealing the moment completely took her breath away.

“It’s an exciting feeling. [Somebody saying], ‘You’re the one.’ And it’s a surprise. You know, I’m surprised when people who aren’t related to me see my movies,” she explained. “And you’re surprised somebody wants to be with you because, boy, I’ve got a lot of quirks and wrinkles.”

Reese feels “lucky” to be with Jim because she finds the whole dating process hard. Being with someone in the same industry has made things easier, and she admits feeling “happy” she no longer has to worry about finding someone.

The actress has a small group of friends she calls on when times are hard and lasting friendships are important to Reese. Her good pals are people who don’t care that she’s famous and have known her for a long time, so she can trust them.

“Friendships are work. You can only have a friend if you are a friend. You’ve got to be there. I really want to be the person who shows up for people when they need me,” she explained. “[My friends and I] tell each other everything. Stuff is hard to deal with, and we’ve gone through a lot together. I have an incredible support system.”

[From Music Rooms]

I like the way Reese talks about her first marriage – and she has never sugar-coated that junk. The subtext – for me – is always “My first marriage was such a disaster that I kind of hated the institution for years.” That’s something I always appreciate about Reese – she manages to convey her feelings on her disastrous first marriage while still sounding diplomatic and nice, and never bitter. I also appreciate that she doesn’t talk in self-help speak or mealy-mouthed platitudes.

A few more things – Reese stepped out with her new wedding band on, and you can see the photos here. They’re pretty boring. Also, last night Reese went out partying with Chelsea Handler. There are photos to prove it! UGH. They’re going to be working together on a movie. DOUBLE UGH.

Reese Witherspoon’s wedding actually sounds really cool & really Southern

wenn3229394

I’ve talked about this before, but I really need to stress it for this post – I am not a wedding person. I don’t have the bride gene. When I see a show about picking out the perfect wedding gown, I change the channel to a rerun of Law & Order: SVU. Fluffy white gowns, seating arrangements, wedding waltzs, floral arrangements, all of that stuff that brides seem to obsess over – I just don’t care. This is probably one of the many reasons why I’m not married (that, and I’m not a baby person either). If and when I ever get married, it will not be some big thing. I’ll either elope, or go down to a court house while wearing a suit, or maybe something really, really simple with, like, barely anyone there and just a lot of food.

So imagine my surprise when I was reading even more details of Reese Witherspoon’s weekend wedding (go here for yesterday’s post about her nuptials), I found myself thinking, “Damn, that sounds really nice.” Reese invited lots of A-listers to her wedding (RDJ!), but she kept everything really down-home and Southern and the whole thing sounds really cool:

When Reese Witherspoon wed Jim Toth at her Ojai, Calif. ranch on Saturday evening, the couple was 90 miles north of Los Angeles — but the vibe of the night was a universe away from Hollywood glitz! UsMagazine.com has brand-new details on the Oscar winner’s big-time nuptials.

In a courtyard in front of the Ojai house, the Monique Lhuillier-clad actress, 35, and CAA agent Toth, 40, exchanged vows and William Goldberg wedding bands beneath a canopy.
About 120 family members and friends– including Sean Penn, Scarlett Johansson, Renee Zellweger, Tobey Maguire and wife Jennifer Meyer, Robert Downey Jr., Matthew McConaughey and love Camila Alves, Alyssa Milano, Colin Hanks, Isla Fisher and hubby Sacha Baron Cohen– were on hand for the bash.

Reverend Jimmy Bartz, of the Santa Monica church regularly attended by the couple, officiated the 20-minute service, and Witherspoon’s children (with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe) Ava, 11, and Deacon, 7, participated in the ceremony.

Matron of honor duties went to Witherspoon’s best friend Heather Rosenfield, whose little boys served as ring bearers; the star’s nieces were flower girls.

In a fitting turn for the Southern-born actress, a bluegrass band played “Tennessee Waltz” as the processional music for Toth and the kids, segueing to “Here Comes the Bride” for Witherspoon’s walk, and playing “Will the Circle Be Unbroken” during the ceremony.

Immediately following the “I do” exchange, guests retreated to a one-hour cocktail party behind the house.

The special night’s theme? Rustic, farm-style, of course! (At her bucolic Ojai spread, Witherspoon gardens and keeps horses, donkeys, pigs, goats and chickens.) The outdoor decor included lanterns and chandeliers hanging from trees, mismatched antique chairs and distressed benches set throughout the property, a wood plank dance floor, antique leather sofas, jute rugs, wago wheels and Turkish textile pillows.

Different arrangements of white, blush and lavender flowers were set up on each table in mason jars, fish catcher lanterns and antique pots. And large moss-covered pots with lavender were set up all over the estate.

When it was time for dinner, guests sat down at long tables in a fabric-lined tent behind the house. On the menu, catered by L.A. eatery Lucques: endive salad with olives and fava beans; wild striped bass with potatoes, chanterelles and garlic; mustard grilled chicken with haricort vert and herb roasted lamb with braised artichokes. For dessert? A grand wedding cake designed by Erica O’Brien, a separate table of sweet treats — and a s’mores lounge!

After the meal, guests boogied on the dance floor to DJ-spun tunes. When it was time to call it a night, revelers departed clutching gift bags with pecan currant scones from a local baker.

Says a pal of the couple, who began dating in January 2010: “They feel like they’ve hit the jackpot in this relationship!”

[From Us Weekly]

Okay, if and when Gerard Butler/Michael Fassbender/Ralph Fiennes wants to marry me and he really wants a big, Hollywood wedding, we’re doing it like this. I like Reese’s plan, and I would happily copy it. Now Gerard just needs to buy me a big ring. And Michael needs to rest up for the honeymoon.

Reese Witherspoon married Jim Toth on her ranch in Ojai on Saturday

fp_5712439_witherspoon_reese_fpp_00_15

Well, we knew it was happening this weekend, but what’s surprising is how many really specific details were leaked. Reese Witherspoon wed her CAA-agent fiancé Jim Toth yesterday in California, on her Ojai ranch. The wedding date “somehow” got leaked a few weeks ago, and now both Us Weekly and People Magazine have, like, intimate details of everything. Here’s Us Weekly’s take:

Hello there, Mr. and Mrs. Toth! Reese Witherspoon married Jim Toth early Saturday evening at her 6-acre ranch in Ojai, Calif., UsMagazine.com has confirmed.

Wearing a custom-designed Monique Lhuillier gown, the actress, 35, exchanged vows with CAA agent Toth, 40, in front of 120 family members and friends (including Renee Zellweger, and Alyssa Milano, and Tobey Maguire) in the front courtyard of the Ojai house.

Witherspoon’s best friend, Heather Rosenfield, served as matron of honor, and her kids with ex-husband Ryan Phillippe — daughter Ava, 11, and son Deacon, 7 — took part in the ceremony. The Oscar winner’s young nieces served as flower girls.

The “Tennessee Waltz” was the processional music for Toth and the kids, while Witherspoon walked down the aisle to “Here Comes the Bride.” The 20-minute ceremony was officiated by Reverend Jimmy Bartz, founder of Thad’s church in Santa Monica, where the couple have been attending weekly Sunday services. The duo exchanged wedding bands designed by jeweler William Goldberg.

Located 90 miles north of Los Angeles, the Ojai ranch — where the star gardens and keeps horses, donkeys, pigs, goats and chickens — has been Witherspoon’s rural escape for years.

It’s the second wedding for the actress, who divorced Phillippe, 36, back in 2007 after seven years of marriage. Shortly after ending a three-year relationship with Jake Gyllenhaal, she and never-married Toth began dating in January 2010. (Although A-list firm CAA also counts Witherspoon as a client, Toth has never represented her.)

The star’s rep confirmed their engagement to Us on Dec. 28, 2010. “They are extremely happy,” the rep said.

About a week later, Witherspoon debuted her engagement bling — a 4-carat, $250,000 Ashocka cut diamond ring from William Goldberg — at a Laker’s Game.

Sources close to the newlyweds tell Us they’re the perfect match. Says one pal of Toth, who’s bonded with her kids: “He’s a very confident guy who takes care of her.”

“[Reese] really wants to be married and have that security with someone,” another insider says. “They feel like they’ve hit the jackpot in this relationship!”

[From Us Weekly]

People Magazine claims they’ve got the exclusive, and yet they seem to have less details (go here for People‘s coverage). Which I think means that Reese and Jim are trying to get the covers of both mags next week, right? Probably. Anyway, it sounds like a really nice, respectable, quiet wedding service and I think and hope that Reese and Jim make each other happy in the long run. They truly seem like they “fit” and Reese seems happier with Toth than she’s been in a while. Congrats to the couple! I say she’s knocked up within a year. She won’t get pregnant right away, in my opinion, but it will happen by the end of this year, I think.

Ryan Phillippe is not going to Reese Witherspoon’s wedding this weekend

wenn3261348-1
Can I admit that I’m getting kind of excited for Reese Witherspoon’s wedding? I really hope we see photos and I would love to see a video clip of her special day. A full photo spread is not Reese’s style, but she might release a nice wedding portrait to the press. Radar Online has some more details of Reese’s upcoming wedding, which will have about 100 guests (“intimate” by Hollywood standards) and take place at her estate in Ojai, California on Saturday. Preparations are going on now, with a tent and workmen spotted on the property. Here’s more, from Radar, who also say that Reese’s ex, Ryan Phillippe, is not going to be there. It’s not stated whether he was invited or not.

wenn3205309

Reese Witherspoon’s big day and RadarOnline.com has photos of all the latest happenings.

As RadarOnline.com was first to report, the Legally Blonde star is set to tie the knot with her fiance, CAA agent, Jim Toth, this weekend, at her luxury Ojai, Ca home.

And now new photos showing a white marquee being erected on the grounds confirm she is walking down the aisle in just a matter of days.

Workmen have gathered at the impressive Libby Ranch, which boasts stables and outbuildings, readying the hideaway for the ceremony.

Surrounded by cactus and greenery, the happy couple will wed in an intimate ceremony in front of 100 of their closest friends and family.

“Candles and flowers will be everywhere, in white and pastels, for an intimate feeling,” a source confirmed.

[From Radar Online]

I pictured Ryan being wasted and miserable at the wedding. Reese probably invited him, he said he was busy in order to save face, and she was relieved that he wouldn’t be there. There’s too much drama swirling around him like a douchey cloud. He got that chick pregnant, his last movie bombed, he’s been stringing Amanda Seyfried along and using her for photo ops. Having Ryan there would only detract from the news about Reese’s romantic nuptials and give the tabloids more to gossip about.

Reese was seen out to dinner in Brentwood, CA on Tuesday night. Her son Deacon, 7, was dressed up in an adorable suit and tie. It was Reese’s 35th birthday dinner (thanks Andrea!) although we didn’t see Reese’s soon-to-be husband, Jim Toth, leaving that night. We’ll see how much they’re able to catch of the wedding, but I’m sure Reese will keep it all on lock down and make sure she controls exactly what goes out to the press.

Reese is shown with her kids on 3/22/11 and out with Jim after church (they wore that to church?!) on 3/20/11. Ryan is shown on 2/12/11. Credit: WENN.com

Reese Witherspoon to marry Jim Toth on March 26 at her home

fp_6967083_witherspoon_rees
Can you believe Reese Witherspoon is getting married again? I thought that she’d be one of those women who stays engaged for a long time and then breaks it off when she realizes she’s better off not making it official. Reese is a traditional type, though, and she’s been very happy with her talent agent boyfriend, Jim Toth, for over a year. It’s time for them and Reese is going to have a romantic white wedding at home. Radar Online reports that she’s planning a small-ish affair at her estate in Ojai, California for March 26 with around 100 guests.

Reese Witherspoon is wasting no time making her union to Jim Toth official. RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal that the Oscar winning actress will be walking down the aisle and trading wedding vows with the 40-year-old mega-agent on Saturday, March 26th at her sprawling Ojai Valley estate.

The Walk The Line star scooped up the compound, which is often called The Libbey Ranch, back in 2008, when it was listed for $6.95 million.

The 7-acre, 4 bedroom/3 bathroom estate, which is fully equipped with horse stables, a swimmer’s pool and two guest houses, was built in 1923 and has housed everyone from actor/director Harold Ramis to interior designer Kathryn M. Ireland.

Reese and Jim were first spotted hanging out together at the picturesque country home back in March 2010, shortly after they began dating, celebrating her 34th birthday together.

Although Reese has been spotted visiting nearly every designer’s showroom from Los Angeles to Paris since her December engagement, the actress spawned serious speculation that she had settled on red carpet favorite Monique L’huillier, when she was photographed shopping at the designer’s Beverly Hills showroom back in February.

It’s been reported that the couple will be keeping the wedding small — at least by Hollywood standards — inviting around 100 guests, and that “candles and flowers will be everywhere, in white and pastels, for an intimate feeling.”

It has also been reported that Reese has been working closely with celebrity event planner Yifat Oren, who has planned the nuptials for everyone from Charlie Sheen and Brooke Mueller to Mariska Hargitay and Peter Hermann

[From Radar Online]

Of all the celebrity wedding photos I could imagine, Reese’s are the ones I’m most looking forward to. (Excepting Brad and Angelina, but you know that’s not going to happen.) She’ll have everything just so, and you know she’ll look beautiful and her kids will be adorable in their wedding outfits. I bet even Ryan will be there, sitting on the sidelines and gritting his teeth, realizing how much he f*cked up. He’ll bring some hot cocktail waitress with him as a buffer and she’ll have to listen to him whine and complain the whole time.

Header photo is of Reese and Jim on 3/13/11. They’re supposedly coming out of church but I hope he didn’t wear those jeans and that ugly shirt with the eagles on it to church! credit: Fame Pictures They’re also shown on 2/13/11, and on 12/1/10 credit: WENN.com

Oscar Fashion: Reese Witherspoon channels Julia Roberts

wenn3230538

We all know the look. We remember it! Julia Roberts’ Oscar win in 2001, wearing vintage black-and-white Valentino, with the big hairpiece. Reese Witherspoon is totally doing a Julia Roberts homage! Reese’s black-and-white is Armani (which is one of Julia’s favorites). I know many of you hate, hate, hate this on Reese, but I am IN LOVE with it. I think it appeals to my Southern side – this is very much what a Southern girl would choose for a red carpet – it’s kind of prom-y and bridesmaid-y, it’s flattering, and she’s got big hair. LOVE!!! I could eat it up with fried chicken.

wenn3229919

I also like that Reese looked so comfortable in it, and that she was really working it. She’s so pretty and petite, and in my opinion, Reese can’t do “big” dresses. She can’t really do “high fashion” either. She needs to keep things simple, fashion-wise. And this dress is perfect. Whatever, bitches. I love it.

Reese Witherspoon’s boyfriend Jim Toth insists on spoiling her

fp_6250907_witherspoontoth_church_fp6_07_19

Reese Witherspoon seems to be a down-to-earth non-diva, like she’d browse the bargain rack at The Gap just as easily as she’d wear couture. But that doesn’t mean she doesn’t have expensive tastes, as her new fiance Jim Toth is finding out. Fortunately, Jim apparently doesn’t mind and makes enough money as an agent (for Robert Downey Jr. and Tobey Maguire, amongst others) to treat Reese in the manner she likes.

Jim Toth’s dream came true when his girlfriend of less than a year, Oscar-winning actress Reese Witherspoon, accepted his Christmas proposal. And he spares no expense in treating her as an A-lister should be treated. “Jim won’t let Reese pay for anything,” a friend of the Hollywood agent tells In Touch.

In a town where extravagant rings are the norm, Jim insisted on the best [engagement ring] money could buy for Reese. “He was drawn to the rarity of the stone,” says jeweler William Goldberg, who custom-designed the spectacular 4-carat sparkler.

While half a million may seem like small change to Reese, 34, who raked in $32 million in 2010 according to Forbes, the ring is an expression of the highly dedicated Creative Artists Agency employee’s love for Reese.

…Now that he’s marrying one of Hollywood’s highest earners, Jim wants to provide her with the things he feels she deserves. “Reese is one of those ladies you need to spoil,” explains the friend, although a rep for Reese denies the story. “She is not materialistic, but she is accustomed to the guy paying for things — she’s Southern and traditional that way.”

And chivalrous Jim is more than happy to oblige. “He opens doors for her, and he holds her hand,” notes the friend. “Jim thinks Reese is so amazing and believes she deserves the world. He knows she is a great woman and mom, so he tries to show her that in every way possible.”

Although they say Reese’s rep denies it, this story is very sweet, making me think the rep isn’t entirely unhappy about it.

In Touch estimates that Jim spent $450,000 on Reese’s engagement ring. It’s a rare Ashoka cut-diamond — “only 10 percent of gems can be cut in the unique shape.”

He also reportedly spends $26,000 for front row Lakers seats; $15,000 on Reese’s favorite restaurants like Giorgio Baldi, Shutters and Red O; plus, he drives a leased $200,000 Mercedes-Benz.

These two seem like a good couple. Actresses usually have better luck with men who work in the industry but who aren’t actors, like Julia Roberts and her cinematographer husband. There’s less competition for the spotlight, I think, and there aren’t as many ego clashes. Hopefully, the money won’t run out!
