Steven Tyler enters rehab

Steven Tyler, lead singer of Aerosmith, has walked his way into rehab. Pun intended.

Steven Tyler, the charismatic 60-year-old frontman for longtime Boston rockers Aerosmith and father of actress Liv Tyler, has reportedly checked himself into Las Encinas Hospital’s drug rehabilitation clinic in Pasadena, California, according to TMZ.com. At press time, a spokesperson for the band could not be reached for comment.

The treatment center is where noted addiction medicine specialist and radio talk-show host Dr. Drew Pinsky practices. It also served as the stage for Pinsky’s “Celebrity Rehab” reality series.

While the report wasn’t specific, Tyler, who once said, “Four rehabilitation centers for drug abuse later, I’ve been able to take a long, hard look at my behavior,” is said to be receiving treatment for substance abuse.

MTV

Steven was notorious for his drug and alcohol abuse in the 70’s and 80’s, but has been clean since around 1986. He and the guitarist from Aerosmith were called the ‘Toxic Twins’ because of their substance abuse. Wikipedia has no exact date for Steven being clean, but it also says that Steven has checked into rehab this time with his girlfriend, Erin Brady. I can’t find any reference to this elsewhere, but it could be true. I’m not sure if someone is trying to imply that his girlfriend could have been the one who introduced him to the drugs after 20 yeas of being clean.

This is pretty rotten timing for going into a treatment program, as Steven’s daughter Liv Tyler is going through a divorce right now, and doesn’t really need her dad entering rehab to add to her troubles.

Steven publicly revealed two years ago that he had hepatitis C, but says he cleared it from his system.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Steven Tyler is shown at MusiCares on 5/9/08. He’s not looking sober here.

Eva Mendes reunites with filmmaker boyfriend

Eva Mendes seems to be getting back on track after her unexpected trip to rehab earlier this year. The actress has even rekindled her romance of six years with hunky filmmaker George Gargurevich. The pair took a break shortly before Eva quietly slipped off to rehab, but now things are back on.

Eva Mendes is getting her relationship with her longtime boyfriend back on track. Eva and filmmaker George Gargurevich, who have been dating for six years, went through a rocky phase when Eva entered rehab at Cirque Lodge in Utah this winter, says an insider.

“The distance was hard on them,” the source tells Star.

But now that she’s out of rehab and living a clean lifestyle, she and George are tighter than ever. They even adopted a Belgian Malinois pup named Hugo.

“George is a rock for Eva. She truly loves him.”

[From Star magazine print version, May 5, 2008]

While I don’t really get why people make such a big deal out of Eva, I am glad to see that she straightened herself out and seems to be reconnecting with people who are positive influences in her life and encourage her sobriety- unlike other certain starlet rehab vets we could name. Eva and George seem like a low key, loving couple. Hopefully they can work it out.

Note by Celebitchy: Just Jared has photos from two years ago of Eva out with her longterm boyfriend George, but I checked Just Jared and PopSugar and couldn’t find any recent photos of the two together. Star has a photo of them that accompanies this story, but it’s unclear if it’s new.

Eva Mendes is shown on 4/21/08 at the Metropolitan Opera, thanks to PRPhotos.

CNN’s Richard Quest goes into rehab

CNN and CNN International reporter Richard Quest has predictably gone into rehab as part of a plea deal with prosecutors. You may remember that Quest was arrested with methamphetamine in his pocket in Central Park last Friday. Equally surprising was that Quest had a rope tied around his genitalia and some sort of sex toy in his boot at the time. Quest was in the park around 3:45 in the morning, well after it’s closed. I’m guessing it was the rope that made police really pay attention – otherwise they probably would have just yelled at him to get out of the park.

As part of his plea deal, the charges against Quest will be dropped, pending successful completion of his treatment.

CNN’s UK-born presenter Richard Quest has embarked on a course of drug rehabilitation following his arrest last Friday in New York. The US news broadcaster today issued a statement confirming that Quest, a familiar face on the network, had entered a “drug rehabilitation facility” on the orders of a judge following his arrest.

“At this time, CNN’s primary concern is for his health and wellbeing. We look forward to Richard returning to CNN International,” the broadcaster said in a statement. A CNN spokesman declined to “speculate” on when Quest would return to the network he joined in 2001. He began his career as a BBC news trainee in 1985 and spent 16 years at the corporation.

During a court arraignment early on Saturday, he agreed to undergo drug counseling and therapy for the next six months in order to avoid a prison sentence. At CNN Quest has made his name as a business reporter and presenter. He also hosts the monthly specials CNN World Business Traveler and fronted the Quest series of shows on diverse subjects.

[From the Guardian]

It will be interesting to see what kind of career awaits Richard Quest at CNN. The network is notoriously intolerant of their employees getting any kind of press for anything outside the direct scope of their jobs. They fired producer Chez Pazienza for running his popular blog Deus Ex Malcontent. What in the world do you think a dildo in the shoe will get Richard Quest?

Sheryl Crow calls rehab “loads of fun,” says she wants to go

Singer Sheryl Crow is known for memorable pop songs and and for occasionally talking smack. She was widely quoted as recommending that we all do our part to save the environment by limiting our toilet paper usage to a single square, a quote she says was taken out of context from a campus comedy routine on global warming and wasn’t meant to be taken seriously.

Now she’s joking around about going to rehab and saying that it might revive her career. She supposedly said this during a performance, and while it’s also taken out of context and seems to be meant as a joke, it’s something that she maybe should have kept to herself:

The singer/songwriter, who has battled depression for years, joked about recording a duet with troubled British singer Amy Winehouse during a show at London’s Scala venue on 19 February (08) - before poking fun at stars in rehab.

Crow told fans, “I want to collaborate with Amy because she’s really hot and cool right now. I know one song, Rehab, was very popular, particularly because a lot of young people are in rehab. “In fact, I’m thinking about going. It looks like loads of fun and I know my career will benefit from it.”

[WENN via Hollywood.tv]

Maybe I’m being overly sensitive, but if she said it that way, that’s rude! At least Sheryl is one of those celebrities who says what she feels and doesn’t tiptoe around things she is passionate about, but calling rehab “fun” and talking about how it will help your career is asinine.

It sounds like someone is pissed because they’re sober with a little kid at home and aren’t as successful or famous as another musician who was taped smoking crack. She has a point in that we keep giving chances to drugged-out singers and celebrities, but it’s not like rehab is fun or people enter into the decision to go lightly.

Sheryl Crow’s album, Detours, has been well received critically, but is not a huge commercial success. The CD sold about 92,000 copies in its first week of release. According to Billboard, it is her “lowest sales debut since her 1996 self-titled sophomore album bowed with 80,000.”

Has Amy Winehouse fallen off the wagon? Plus sudden buxomness explained

Everyone was wondering how Amy Winehouse so suddenly got curvaceous in rehab. An amazingly good bra? Was she actually at a rehab/cosmetic surgery clinic? Was she using the old 12-year-old trick and stuffing tissue paper down her bra? It turns out the answer has more to do with chicken than anything else. Or rather, chicken cutlets. You know those ridiculous breast enhancers that look like raw chicken cutlets? Well goofy as they look, it appears they can do wonders, as they’re responsible for Amy’s newly curvaceous physique. Unfortunately, the reason everyone now knows this is that Amy absentmindedly left her chicken cutlets in the ladies washroom. But really, who amongst us hasn’t?

Amy Winehouse is trying hard to stay sober, but she’s still forgetful. The Grammy-winning songbird showed up at Andrew Buckler’s new London boutique the other night with pal Kelly Osbourne and her new sober companion, Blake Wood, and left a few things in the bathroom. “She left a pair of boob enhancers — like chicken cutlet things to push up your boobs — and some hair extensions in the toilet,” our spy said. Later, Winehouse and Wood went to his apartment with a group of people who “were all getting drunk — except for them.”

[From Page Six]

Unfortunately later the same day Page Six revised their story, reporting that Amy had been spotted out drinking – and they even have a photo of her with a Becks beer. They mentioned again that she’d been camping out at a London hotel with friends until last Friday, when the group went out to a pub in Shoreditch until 2:30 in the morning. However they said, “The 24-year-old clung to a beer, even in the car home” and there is a photo of her holding a Becks. The innocent, naive, wishful part of me is hoping that… um… she’s just holding it for a friend? Once in a while a friend does need you to hold their beer, right? No? This makes me sad. I know that some alcohol rehabilitation programs do teach that you don’t have to completely abstain, but I’m pretty sure most of them agree you have to completely abstain at this point in the process. I cannot believe that her “sober companion” would let her go to a bar. I have no idea how the companion system works, but holy cow. Clearly it didn’t work well in Amy’s case.

Here’s Amy returning to her Camden home flanked by security. Images thanks to Splash.

Amy Winehouse might have a new boyfriend, also named Blake

When Amy Winehouse thanked “My Blake, incarcerated” in her Grammy acceptance speech we thought that she was just tenderly making a reference to the fact that she was separated from her husband during his ongoing stint in jail. It turns out she may have specified that Blake was in jail because there’s another guy named Blake in her life and she wanted to let everyone know which one she was referring to.

Amy was seen out with an American artist named Blake Wood last night. The British rags say that Amy’s friend Kelly Osbourne introduced her to the “new” Blake, and that the guy doesn’t do drugs or even drink alcohol. Amy and the new Blake went to two different parties last night, and they are said to have spent quality time together at the Park Plaza hotel in London where The Daily Mail reports that she’s been staying.

This isn’t the first guy Amy has been linked to during her husband’s time in jail. She went on a Caribbean vacation with an ex boyfriend in early January. Her husband Blake was said to have cut his arm in frustration after he heard that Amy jetted off with her ex.

Blake Fielder Civil handed Amy a pleading note when she visited him in jail after her multiple Grammy win begging her not to leave him. Some stories also have him confessing that he had lied about a previous suicide attempt in jail. In the note Blake says he has disowned his family for speaking publicly against his bride and that he hopes they can make their marriage work. Amy’s father Mitch said that media outlets could publish the note, and that his daughter approved that the contents be made public in order to show that she is committed to staying with her husband and staying off drugs.

It seems like things change quickly for Amy, or maybe she’s just friends with this other guy named Blake. When I first heard this story I thought it was great that she was moving on from her husband, but then I realized that she’s only been in rehab for a little over two weeks and that she’s already going out at night, presumably staying at a hotel and dating someone new. It all seems too much too soon for her, although I hope it sticks and she is able to get out of that codependent relationship with her husband.

Amy has “Blake’s” tattooed over her left breast in a retro design that’s reminiscent of a waitresses name tag over a half-pocket with cherries. At least there isn’t a last name on there.

Amy and Blake Wood are shown out last night, thanks to WENN.

Amy Winehouse gets teeth fixed, some advice from Keith Richards

winehousefixedtooth.jpg
We’ve had plenty of pictures of stars entering rehab, looking unkempt and lost, so it’s nice to see Amy Winehouse out and about looking great. Or at least better. She headed out of her rehab facility in London to get her teeth fixed. Glamming up for the Grammys?

Emerging from a second visit to a London dentist on Saturday, Amy flashed a bright white smile to onlookers before being escorted by her father Mitch back to the centre she is receiving treatment in.

This is a far-cry from December when she was spotted with gaps in her mouth suggesting her teeth had fallen out.

A friend close to her admitted at the time: “She has one missing from the front of her mouth, and another one at the back which is less visible.

“Her mouth is full of holes and she is desperately worried she is going to lose more. She has actually pulled a tooth out herself, which is absolutely disgusting.”

“Her gums are always red and sore as a result of it and some of the teeth are loosening.”

Daily Mail

It’s absolutely fantastic that her supportive family were with her. The Daily Mail picture show Amy as a poster girl for rehab, cheekily sticking her tongue out at the photographer. She’s gained some much-needed weight, her mouth is full of teeth now, and her beehive is back, and she’s fully dressed. Combined with her trademark eye make up she’s back to being the Amy we all fell in love with. Swoon. She looks like a recovering addict should look, not like when a celebrity sells their rehab story to a magazine and then gets some glossy pictures of themselves taken looking fabulous. No one looks great three days out of rehab.

Amy went back into the rehab facility, without making any side trips to see her husband in jail, or visit her crack dealer, or any other destructive behaviour. She’s also apparently turned down the Osbournes’ offer to stay with them after she checks out. While I’m not sure if Ozzy and Sharon should be trusted with anyone’s mental health - they couldn’t even train their dogs - Ozzy is a good example of why you should stay off the drugs. If I’m going to have an exciting, amazing music career, I’d like to remember it.

The ever charming Keith Richards also has some advice for Amy.

Asked at the Berlin International Film Festival - where he’s promoting new Martin Scorsese Rolling Stones documentary ‘Shine A Light’ – whether he had advice for Amy and her battle with drugs, Richards answered, “She should get her act together.”

The veteran rocker – no stranger to addictive substances himself – then helpfully added, “Apart from that, I have got nothing to say to the bitch.”

Gigwise

He’s an absolute gentleman, isn’t he? Don’t hold your breath waiting for Keith Richards to get his act together. Mick Jagger added that when the Rolling Stones were young, there were no rehab facilities, or at least they weren’t aware of them.

Amy won five Grammys last night. Her album “Back to Black” won for best pop vocal album, she received best female pop vocal performance and single of the year for “Rehab,” , and she also won best female pop vocalist and best new artist.

Amy Winehouse granted Visa to travel to US too late; Will play Grammys by satellite

Many people were disappointed to hear that Amy Winehouse was barred from entering the US after her crack-smoking caught on tape scandal and wouldn’t be able to attend the Grammy Awards this Sunday. US officials were said to have made the decision to deny her a Visa. She’s been clean and sober in rehab for a whole two weeks, and while that’s excellent for Amy and all it’s hardly enough to guarantee that she’s not going to import or export anything in that big ‘ol beehive.

There was news that she was going to play at the Grammys via satellite from London, and Amy even issued a statement thanking us for our support and saying she was excited for the gig. She is nominated for six Grammy Awards: record, song and performance of the year for “Rehab” and Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for “Back to Black,” and Best New Artist.

Here’s Amy’s Statement when she assumed she would be playing via satellite:

“I’m raring to go and really excited to be performing at my first Grammy Awards,” Winehouse said in a statement issued Friday. “I’d like to thank everyone for their support over the last couple of weeks. I’m really sorry I can’t be there but I appreciate that I’m being given a second chance via satellite.”

To prepare for the performance, the singer will be leaving the rehabilitation clinic where she has been a resident for two weeks. “She is feeling great, looking healthy and looking forward to doing what she does best,” the statement said, adding that she will remain under full medical supervision and her treatment will continue as normal.

Winehouse is up for six Grammys: Record of the Year, Song of the Year and Best Female Pop Vocal Performance for “Rehab,” Album of the Year and Best Pop Vocal Album for Back to Black, as well as Best New Artist.

A statement released Thursday by Winehouse’s U.K. publicity firm, the Outside Organisation, explained the circumstances of her inability to travel to the U.S. at this time. “The singer has been invited to appear at the event on Sunday after receiving an amazing six nominations for the prestigious awards. Unfortunately, her application for a visa to enter the United States of America has been rejected at this time by the American Embassy in London.”

[From MTV.com]

But now TMZ says that US customs officials have reconsidered and that Amy will be granted a Visa to attend Sunday’s event. It’s not known yet if she’s going to jump at the chance or if she will decide to play via satellite on a London stage still. Since she said she was disappointed she couldn’t go, I guess we can assume she’ll attend.

We speculated that it might be too much for Amy’s fragile sobriety to travel this soon since she’s cleaned up, but if she has good people with her who will make sure she stays clean, it might be ok.

It could also be an experience that shows her how good life can be when you’re not too messed up to experience it. She’s a rare talent and has had a lot of opportunities in life. Maybe being able to play at the Grammys will help her realize just how close she was to throwing it all away.

Thanks to WENN for these pictures of Amy outside a friend’s house today. She did return to rehab afterwards, and she’s still looking very healthy.

Update: Amy was granted a travel visa too late to attend the Grammys in person and will perform via satellite. Her rep says:

“Unfortunately, due to the logistics involved and timing complications, Amy will not be coming to the U.S. this weekend to perform at the Grammys in Los Angeles, however, she will still be performing via satellite broadcast from London as previously announced this morning.”

She added that Amy is “very sad not to be attending the prestigious awards in person”

[From TMZ]

That’s probably best for her health now, and at least she’ll still get to perform as planned.

Cirque Lodge says Kirsten Dunst isn’t there

ppf-002372.jpg
Everyone was all atwitter with the news that less-than-beloved Spiderman actress, Kirsten Dunst, 25, was reported to have checked into the same rehab facility in Utah where Lindsay Lohan received treatment, Cirque Lodge. Eva Mendes was even there, and it seemed like she provided some circumstantial evidence that Kirsten may have shown up by taking a break from rehab right around the time Kirsten was reported to have arrived.

The news originated on the Star Magazine website and then was picked up by other outlets, including People, which said that a source confirmed the news, adding that she’s been weepy and unhappy lately. She was said to have been encouraged to go to rehab but People’s source stated that no one close to her staged an intervention.

Dunst’s rep has not commented on this story to any outlet, but did say that “Kirsten is Fine” when an earlier story on the NY Post had her about to have a breakdown at Sundance. E! Online reports that they contacted the Cirque Lodge, who denied that Kirsten is there. While you might think that they’re just trying to protect a high-profile client, it sounds like a categorical denial because the Lodge director specifically said that it’s not a case of trying to preserve a patient’s confidentiality and that she really isn’t there. That was stupid, because now you know when they say “we don’t comment” that it means that someone is there.

While reports are running rampant that the Spider-Man heroine has checked into the Cirque Lodge treatment center in Park City, Utah, a rep for the facility has denied to E! News that the actress is being treated by the facility.

“Nope, not true,” said Gary Fisher, the lodge’s director of operations. He added that while the facility prides itself on refusing to comment on the comings and goings of celebrity patients, Dunst is definitively not, and never has been, at the center.

[From E-Online, thanks to Virgina for the tip]

So if Kirsten Dunst isn’t at Cirque Lodge is she at another rehab? You can’t put much faith in Star’s stories, but if it isn’t true at all, then People seems culpable too because they claim that the story is supported by a source. But you think if Kirsten was home and fine she would have either gone somewhere public to show the world she’s not in rehab, or she would have released a statement through her rep saying that the story was false. It seems like something is up with her, but at least we know that she can’t be blamed for Eva Mendes’ furlough.

Dunst is shown on 10/5/07 at Paris Fashion week, thanks to PRPhotos. I feel bad for her so I’m using pretty pictures.

Amy Winehouse denied US Visa, won’t be at Grammy Awards (Update)

Amy Winehouse has been looking quite improved and healthy after just under two weeks of rehab. She was allowed to leave briefly to apply for her travel visa to the US on Monday, and everyone was talking about how gorgeous she looked on Wednesday when she was seen out visiting her husband, Blake Fielder Civil, in jail. She seems to have gained some much-needed weight and instead of the look of intense dread and anger that she’s often photographed with she actually looks quite happy and proud. Sobering up has really done wonders for her.

People were excited to hear that Amy was going to the Grammy Awards this Sunday and that she was set perform. Her manager has announced that she’s been denied a US Visa, though, and considering the fact that she was widely seen on video smoking crack I suppose that’s understandable:

Amy Winehouse will not be attending Sunday’s Grammy Awards after all.

She has been denied a U.S. Visa, her rep said in a statement Thursday.

“Amy has been progressing well since entering a rehabilitation clinic two weeks ago and although disappointed with the decision has accepted the ruling and will be concentrating on her recovery,” The Outside Organization, which counts the troubled retro-soul sensation among its clients, said in a statement obtained by the Associated Press.

[From US Weekly]

That’s unfortunate for Winehouse’s fans. She’s got a unique talent, and I know I was looking forward to seeing if she could sing without mumbling when she’s sober. Maybe it’s just as well for her, though, as it might be way too early in her recovery to travel and be around temptation again. Her single “rehab” is nominated for song of the year and record of the year and she might just win a Grammy or two while she’s there.

There is some good news for Winehouse despite this minor setback. There were reports today that the composer responsible for the Jame Bond soundtrack wants her to record the new theme song for the next movie starring Daniel Craig. There’s no title yet, and it’s expected to be out sometime this year. Composer David Arnold said:

“Amy Winehouse did the best record of last year. I haven’t asked her yet but I think she’d be good, although Bond songs can be a bit of a war zone.

“The next film will be in 2008 and we’re almost finished with the script.

The books are all done now so this one is going to be an extension of what happens to Bond, continuing the story from ‘Casino Royale’. We haven’t a title yet but anything without death, dying, tomorrow or dies would be fine by me!”

[From AZ Central]

Keep getting well Amy. The world is waiting to hear more of your fabulous songs. And James Bond won’t be able to get his groove on without you.

Update by JayBird: People reports that Amy will still perform at the Grammys via a satellite uplink from a London studio.

Amy Winehouse is shown visiting her husband in jail on 2/6/08 in the header and on Monday, 2/3/08 below. Thanks to WENN.
