David Hasselhoff spent the holidays in rehab after family intervention

thehoff1.jpg
David’s Hasselhoff’s battle with alcoholism has continued well beyond the floor burger-eating video seen around the world. The National Enquirer notes that he’s been in the hospital four different times for alcohol poisoning since last October and that he was in and out of Cedars-Sinai twice in December for alcohol detox.

His family is worried sick about him and three of his sisters as well as his two teenage daughters, Haley, 15, and Taylor, 17, staged an intervention in early December. The Hoff spent Christmas and New Years in a rehab in Hawaii.

“David would drink a gallon of vodka and then pass out. He’d check into the hospital, come out, say he was fine, then do it again,” said the source.

During one of his last drinking bouts, the ex “Knight Rider” hunk even asked his 17-year-old daughter Taylor to drive to a liquor store for vodka, the family friend revealed.

“Taylor refused, and David tried to drive off. When his other daughter Hayley, who’s 15, tried to stop him, he scratched her hands,” said the source.

Finally, on December 8, the morning after his final hospital stay, Hasselhoff’s two daughters and three of his sisters confronted him about his boozing, said the source.

“David’s sisters - who’d flown in from different cities - and his daughters pleaded with him to come to his senses and go to rehab,” the friend revealed.

“There was crying and hugging until David got it through his thick head that rehab was what he had to do.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, January 21, 2008]

David’s daughters visited him in Hawaii while he was at rehab and the source reports that they said that he seems to be making progress. The article doesn’t clarify whether he’s out now or is still in rehab on the island of Oahu.

In late November the Hoff was overheard bitching loudly about the state of his career, which probably hasn’t improved much since. His chance at even a minor recurring TV role on a sitcom will have to wait until the writer’s strike ends. According to IMDB he will appear in Anaconda 3: The Offspring, which is listed as a TV show in post-production. He is also in talks for a cameo in the Knight Rider television movie. It looks like a reality show would be the only hope for The Hoff in this bleak strike period. Celebrity Rehab 2 would be thrilled to have him, but even though he’s become something of a punch line he strikes me as too dignified for that.

David Hasselhoff is shown on 11/17 at the opening of Planet Hollywood Resort and Casino with Danny Devito and Rhea Perlman. Hasselhoff is 6′4″, and he makes those two look so little! Danny Devito is said to be 5 feet tall.

Friday shocker: Lindsay Lohan drinking again

lohandrinking.jpg
Yesterday Celebitchy mentioned that Lindsay Lohan was honored for her “contribution to film,” at the Capri Hollywood International Film Festival. Lohan spent most of her time in Italy whoring around with various men and being photographed… whoring around with various men. She gave a fairly gracious speech at the film festival when she accepted her award… though you’d think she was accepting her much-coveted Oscar, rather than an award from a festival few have ever heard of. Either way, she came off as shockingly classy… though that’s probably because our expectations of Lindsay Lohan are so low. But she eventually reverted to good ‘ol LiLo, after she was taped swigging from a champagne bottle a few minutes later on the dance floor. Stay classy, Lindsay Lohan.

Lindsay Lohan suffered a setback in her sobriety over New Year’s, but is back on track, her lawyer said Thursday. A video of the actress drinking champagne directly from a bottle while in Capri, Italy, hit the Internet Thursday, first appearing on TMZ.com.

“After being handed a champagne bottle while on a dance floor in Italy on New Year’s Eve and drinking from it, the good news is that Lindsay stopped herself, called her sponsor, and got herself back on track,” her lawyer, Blair Berk, tells PEOPLE. “There is no magic cure here. The most unfortunate part of this is that Lindsay has to share her ‘one day at a time’ with the entire world.”

Lohan was in Italy to receive an award at the 12th Annual Capri Hollywood International Film Festival. In a video, she is seen thanking organizers for inviting her to the festival, giving a shout out to John Malkovich, then later taking a swig from a bottle of champagne while on the dance floor.”

[From People]

How unfortunate that the first – and only – time Lindsay Lohan has had a setback in her recovery, it just happens to be caught on tape? I’m sure she’s done nothing but walk the straight and narrow since completing – what was it, her nineteenth? – round of recovery. Considering all the reports that LiLo is broke, maybe she was just drinking the champagne because it was free. A girl’s got to get her calories somehow.

Mel Gibson’s son in rehab

One of Mel Gibson’s seven kids is having problems that mirror his dad’s, but at least he’s getting treatment early. 25 year-old Edward Gibson entered Cri-Help treatment facility in late September to try and conquer his demons. Edward is determined to quit using drugs and alcohol and it sounds like he made a personal choice to go to rehab and wasn’t forced into it. He is also refusing all visitors, and will not see his family.

Edward’s twin Christian was arrested for DUI in 2005, but Edward has yet to run afoul of the law and he plans to keep it that way.

“Mel is devastated,” a source told The Enquirer. “He feels so helpless because Edward won’t see him.

“Edward’s drugs of choice are alcohol and cocaine,” said the source. Sadly, his father’s fame is only adding to Edward’s problems, said the source. “He’s very self-conscious and finds it difficult to speak about his background, which is thwarting his recovery,” the source divulged…

Edward tried to kick his addictions on his own, but he just couldn’t, the source added.

“Edward was terrified he’d be caught under the influence driving a car like his dad - or worse - killing someone at the wheel,” said the source.

He’s not refusing visitors, especially his father, “because he doesn’t want any distractions or to cause any disruptions for hte other patients,” said the source.

“Edward told a pal: ‘I know my dad loves me, but this is something I have to do by myself for myself. My dad is just going to have to chill.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, November 12, 2007]

The article goes on to say that Edward fears being lumped in the same category as other celebrities’ kids who just go wild. He is also said to speak frequently about how he doesn’t want to end up like his dad.

Maybe he will beat his addictions early and come away with the tools to avoid long term alcoholism like his father. Mel Gibson is shown here at the American Gangster screening last week, and he definitely doesn’t look sober. According to Cinema Blend, Gibson is next going to star in a police thriller with Denzel Washington called Under and Alone. Maybe that’s why he showed up to support Denzel, although he would have done both of them a favor by keeping his drunk ass on the bar stool instead. No wonder his kid is avoiding him while he’s trying to get sober.

Pete Doherty doesn’t need any more court supervision

top-huubyub.jpg

It’s been a little while since we’ve heard from Pete Doherty. Last we heard, he was engaged to another model – because what beauty doesn’t crave a pockmark-ridden dumpy dirty little toothless guy? That’s right, none of them! Pete is all done with his 283,484,283,498,283 visit to rehab, and he’s so confident in his success this time around that he’s told the courts they no longer need to monitor him – and they believe him. In other news, the British justice system apparently truly is blind.

Pete Doherty is vowing to stay off drugs, and an English court no longer feels the need to monitor that promise. Doherty, 28, a musician best known as Kate Moss’s ex-boyfriend, was released on Wednesday from a drug treatment order in the U.K., ending 18 months of court supervision, the Associated Press reports.

Outside the courtroom, Doherty, who has run afoul of the law with numerous drug offenses, told reporters he intends to stay clean. “It’s just the beginning, you know what I mean? My life has changed,” he said. A close friend of the rocker told PEOPLE, “He’s really really got his s— together. His is a dry tour and he hasn’t got his beer goggles on.”

Doherty, who checked into rehab in August, recently got engaged to singer-model Irina Lazareanu, according to reports.

[From People]

Well that’s a whole lot of bull I’m not inclined to believe. You? No? Really? Huh. Wonder why it’s just us that think Pete Doherty is already on the pipe again. Oh, you say he never stopped? Really, that’s crazy! He just seems like one of those “tough it out” stone cold sober types, you know. Though I will give him a little credit – he got all poufy/bloated/fat when he was done with rehab, and most people do tend to put on some weight. That has happened after his other 283,484,283,498,282 visits, so maybe he really did manage to quit this time. I mean I’m sure he’s started up again – not to be pessimistic, but come on, let’s also not be gullible here – but if he stopped even for 2 seconds, that’d be more than he’s done before. So congrats, Pete. The British justice system has so much confidence in you. We… do… too? I can’t say it. I’m counting down the days Pete.

John Goodman checks out of rehab center

top-sgg-047802.jpg

This story would have been better if we’d ever reported that John Goodman checked into a rehab center, but let’s be honest: it’s John Goodman, so it didn’t really register on our radar. But John Goodman checking out of rehab? Totally worth a story. You know why? Because celebrities have been really, really well behaved this week, and that means we have to write about what’s left: the John Goodmans of the world. If you don’t like it, I suggest you go to your local celebrity, hand them a bottle of booze, some car keys, and a donkey, and just see what the hell happens. Until then, I’m writing about Q-list stars in rehab.

John Goodman has checked out of rehab after being treated for an undisclosed reason. It was unclear how long the actor was treated, or when he was released. “For my family and myself, I voluntarily took the necessary steps to remain sober the rest of my life,” Goodman said in a statement issued by his publicist, Stan Rosenfield. Goodman left Promises Treatment Center in Malibu, “Entertainment Tonight” reported Wednesday on its Web site.

Reached by e-mail late Wednesday, Rosenfield referred to the statement and declined further comment. Goodman, 55, is best known for playing Dan Conner on the hit sitcom “Roseanne” in the 1980s and ’90s. His film credits include “The Big Lebowski,” “The Flintstones” and “The Babe.” He won an Emmy Award this year for guest actor in a drama series for “Studio 60 on the Sunset Strip.”

[From the Associated Press]

Something tells me John Goodman probably hooked up with some total hotties at Promises. We all know that’s where the sexiest stars go for rehab. A lot of long-time sober actors have been having issues lately. Last year, Robin Williams relapsed after being sober for 20 years, and managed to keep it pretty quiet. It’s got to be incredibly challenging to maintain your sobriety over the course of your lifetime. The only thing I’m addicted to is sugar, and just trying to beat that has been life-consuming for me. Despite the jokes, I have a lot of respect for anyone who confronts their addictions head on. Hopefully John Goodman has managed to deal with whatever demons he’s got.

Michael Lohan says Lindsay’s doing “very, very well”

top-87897964.jpg

As much as I dislike Dina Lohan, I hate Michael Lohan a whole lot more. Both of Lindsay Lohan’s parents are obvious users and losers, and each one seems to excel at their own version of latching onto the kid and riding her coattails as far as possible. But why oh why can’t Michael Lohan ever keep his mouth shut? Dina Lohan manages to do nothing but talk about Lindsay nonstop, and yet she still doesn’t seem quite as opportunistic as her ex-husband.

So for no apparent reason, Michael Lohan has taken it upon himself to tell People magazine just how great Lindsay is doing. He’s also a big fan of her new boyfriend, who she met in rehab and is (according to Michael) moving to Utah to be closer to. Isn’t a big rule of AA not to have a new relationship for one year to focus on sobriety? Sounds like Lindsay’s really taking it all seriously. Though Lindsay Lohan without a boyfriend is like Paris Hilton without herpes – one just doesn’t make sense without the other.

“When Lindsay Lohan leaves Utah to finish filming Dare To Love Me in Los Angeles, she will have round-the-clock help staying sober, her dad said. To insure the 21-year-old actress continues her recovery from alcohol and drug abuse, a sober companion, trained to be with people overcoming addictions, will be with her, Michael Lohan told PEOPLE. On Oct. 5, Lohan left rehab at Utah’s Cirque Lodge Treatment Center, which helped the actress find the companion.

“‘Lindsay’s companion is really, really tough, and she’s really nice, she’s an amazing lady, a great influence on Lindsay’s life,’ the elder Lohan said before attending a family court hearing in Westbury, N.Y., concerning his youngest children Ali, 13, and Dakota, 11. He also talked about another part of her new life – beau Riley Giles, whom she met in rehab. ‘He’s a great, great kid,’ Lohan said. ‘If you met him, you’d like him.’

“Lohan does not know where his daughter will be staying in L.A., but after filming – slated to begin Oct. 15 – he expects her to come back to Utah to live, receive continued counseling and attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings. ‘It looks like she may have already found a house,’ he said, noting that she currently stays in a rental near the lodge. And he’s definitely not concerned about reports of her going out at night to establishments that serve liquor. ‘She goes out, she goes out,’ he said. ‘She does the right thing.’”

[From People]

Um, alright Michael Lohan. You psycho. That sentence “She goes out, she goes out. She does the right thing” is kind of confusing, because he didn’t say “BUT” she does the right thing. Forgetting to add that makes it sound like he’s saying going out is the right thing, which I have to say it probably isn’t for someone in Lohan’s shoes. She should really try spending a little time alone, just her, a cat, and a good book. Isn’t that a funny image! Pretty soon she’d have the cat strung out on opiates while she danced around naked singing the flower drum song or something. Hopefully this sober companion will be on the lookout and keep Lohan away from any animals she may encounter, in addition to men. Really, why is Michael Lohan acting like this is a good thing? Isn’t he an addiction counselor himself now? It’s like if Lindsay Lohan does just half the things she should do, that’s enough for everyone. Let me remind you all, 50% is still an F. Which is also the grade I’m giving you as a parent.

Lindsay Lohan plans to move to Utah permanently, bye Lindsay!

Lindsay Lohan is supposedly telling friends she’s going to move to Utah for good. She just got out of in rehab in Sundance, Utah after a two month stay last week and is said to be making the impulsive decision to change residence in order to be with her new boyfriend, despite the fact that he must be brand-spanking new since she was linked to several different guys in rehab. She has been photographed out and about with Riley Giles, a 25 year-old California snowboarder, and tells friends she wants to move there to be with him permanently.

There was also a story on OK! Magazine’s website yesterday claiming that Lindsay has dumped her mom, Dina, as her manager after being pissed at the depths to which she sinks to make a buck, but her rep has denied it. That doesn’t mean it’s not true, just that her rep has denied it. Lindsay has been spending a lot of time with her father so it makes sense that he may have convinced her to drop her mom as manager.

The Utah mountain air certainly agrees with Lindsay Lohan. Fresh out of rehab, she told friends Tuesday she wants to move to the Beehive State permanently.

The reason, she says, is to be with her new boyfriend, Riley Giles, a 25-year-old snowboarder from California.

Lindsay will be receiving outpatient care near the Cirque Lodge rehab facility at least through the end of the week.

Meanwhile, some have been expecting Lindsay’s new broom to be turned on her manager-mom, Dina. One well-placed source suggested she has been looking at other management options for weeks…

Yesterday, OK! reported on its Web site that Dina had already been let go, but Lindsay’s spokeswoman told us: “Not true at all.”

[From NY DailyNews]

I really hope this is true, because it’s almost as good a story break from Lindsay as her time in rehab was. Since she’s not messing up anymore and is away from LA there are fewer photos so hopefully we can look forward to lighter Lindsay news in the future.

Paris Hilton learned the hard way that we aren’t that interested in her daily life after completing her jail stint and remaining relatively scandal-free since. She doesn’t get as much press and is probably feeling neglected.

It’s a tough lesson for these young “stars” that normalcy is uninteresting to us. The quick media cycle encourages flameouts like Britney, but that’s too bad. Go do something useful with your millions and enjoy daily life without craving the validation that comes with having your mug posted all over Internet. It sounds like Lohan is doing just that, although there’s no way I’m going to give her credit for it. It’s not like this new relationship will last for her, so it’s doubtful she’ll stay in Utah much longer anyway.

Thanks to Splash News for these pictures of Lohan and her boyfriend in Utah yesterday. She is said to have changed her shoes three times, but she was out shopping at Nordstroms so she probably bought new shoes there.

Lindsay Lohan talks about her “talent”

top-87888217wm.jpg

Lindsay Lohan is really good at saying just the right things to reporters, and using a lot of AA/therapy speak. There’s nothing wrong with that in general, but coming from her it seems really disingenuous. Lohan talked with “OK” magazine about her recovery and her plans to stay in Hollywood and not waster her “talent.” Here’s the problem Lindsay. “I Know Who Killed Me,” “Just My Luck,” and “Herbie Fully Loaded.” Pretty much all of those would indicate a severe lack of talent. So you might want to work on getting some before you worry about wasting it. Just a thought.

“Don’t look for Lindsay Lohan on the Hollywood club scene — or any Hollywood scene — anytime soon. Just hours after leaving Cirque Lodge treatment center in Utah, Lohan tells OK! magazine (on stands nationwide Friday) that she’s settling in the mountains. ‘I’m staying in Utah until it’s time to shoot Dare to Love Me,’ Lohan says, ‘and then I plan on returning to Utah so I can stay focused and avoid other distractions.’ (Lohan has a small role in the story of Tango legend Carlos Gardel.) But she’s not saying goodbye to the Hollywood industry. ‘Absolutely not — never! I’m here to stay,’ says the actress, 21. ‘My talent is a gift, and I’m going to use it in the right way.’”

[From USA Today]

So easy. Want to mock in a terrible, mean way. Don’t want to trigger relapse…. Ahhh! Pain radiating down my body! Can’t do it! Lindsay Lohan, Celebitchy and I got together and had a discussion, and we decided that you are the most hated of the Idiot Trifecta. And that’s not an award to be trifled with, you really have to earn that crap. You know, by stealing people’s cars and chasing their mothers through the streets of L.A. in a drug-fueled craze. As messed up as Britney and Paris are, as far as we know they don’t combine illicit substances with a severe, unchecked rageaholic personality disorder. They’ve certainly got other shit going on, but they don’t seem to commandeer cars, run over a guy’s foot, and chase people. Just a thought on the first – and easiest – step to improving your lot in life.

Want a little more trite AA speak from Lohan? Well she’s serving it up with her usual dose of sincerity/poor me mentality.

“Lohan checked into Cirque Lodge in early August, days after her second DUI arrest in less than two months and after two attempts at rehab. That second arrest, she says, was her ‘rock-bottom. Everything in my life came to a point where I had to make a decision; the arrest that night helped me come to a point where I had to make one.’ She acknowledges addiction and substance abuse and lying to cover up a serious problem. But Lohan doesn’t detail her drug and alcohol use. As part of her recovery, Lohan isn’t placing blame on anyone, and she says she plans on surrounding herself ‘with good people who have their hearts and their minds in the right places.’ She adds that during rehab, she has been in contact with only her family.

“[On] The feud between her father and mother, Dina, saddens Lohan, she says, ‘I wish it would stop. It hurts when two people you love argue with one another. I don’t think any child wants to see their parents argue or see their family fall apart. Unfortunately, it happens, and when it does, they should do it with as little effect on their children as possible.’ Lohan says her rehab experience was ‘sobering’ and ‘humbling. It made me look at myself, and all of the people, places and things in my life in a different way. I was in there for substance abuse, after all.’ Still, relapse is on her mind. ‘If I wasn’t (worried), I’d be living in denial. Temptation is always there, but now I’ll avoid it the right way.’”

[From USA Today]

If all that stuff wasn’t coming out of Lindsay Lohan’s mouth, I’d be really tempted to write a lot of “Oh good for her, it seems like she’s finally starting to figure it all out.” But that girl is incredibly manipulative. She just manages to take things to a whole new level, and she’s commercializing her recovery by doing rehab and post-rehab photo shoots for “OK.” They claim she’s not getting any money, but I’m sure she’s being compensated in some way. My guess is crack, meth, and a big SUV. All the ingredients for more Lindsay Lohan tabloid fodder.

Picture Note by Jaybird: Here’s Lindsay taking a break from rehab last Sunday in Utah, sharing a cigarette with fellow rehab patients. Images thanks to Splash Photos.

Two guys get into a fight over Lindsay Lohan at rehab

spx-007013.jpg
Lindsay Lohan may have checked out of rehab in Utah last Friday, but it was probably not early enough for the horny addicts who were fighting over who would have rights to push her up against the porcelain in the bathroom that night. Two guys got into a fistfight over her while she sat back and watched, giggling. She denied any involvement, but her fellow patients accused her of setting the guys up for it:

[Lindsay Lohan] triggered a nasty fistfight between two raging bulls at Cirque Lodge in Sundance, Utah! Trouble began brewing, sources say, when Naughty Hottie got hot ‘n heavy with a patient. But then she abruptly cooled and started aiming heat rays at another starstruck sucka! “Everyone saw the showdown coming when Guy No. 1 started warning Guy No. 2 to stop horning in,” said an insider. Lindsay just sat back innocently, watching the jealousy build - and the guys finally started beating the hell out of each other.” Sources say Mean Grrl didn’t lift a finger to stop the slugfest - and actually giggled as the horndogs fought for her favors! After staffers broke up the brawl, Lindsay’s therapy group confronted her - say she’d cynically set the two guys up. But Lindsay indignantly denied having a damn thing to do with causing the fight.

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, Mike Walker’s column, October 15, 2007]

And in case you were wondering why no pictures came out of Lohan out at the Hollywood nightspots this weekend, the fact is that she has decided to remain in Utah for the time being for “outpatient treatment” until she needs to leave to film that tango movie, Dare to Love Me.

Could it be that the lessons of Bill W cracked through her tough shell of narcissistic recklessness? It’s doubtful, but we’ll see. And you know we’re all waiting for her to fuck up royally or admit that she was full of shit all her life up to this point. My money is on the fucking up, because how can she continue to be such an arrogant bitch but remain sober? Don’t those kind of people think they’re able to do whatever the hell they want?

Lohan is shown in the header image at Coachella on 4/29/07. Thanks to PRPhotos.

Lock up your sons, Lindsay Lohan is out of rehab

jtm-025140.jpg
Lindsay Lohan checked out of rehab Friday afternoon with the help of her dad, who is also a recovering alcoholic. She was said to be spending five days with him at a remote location in Utah, where she has been in rehab since August, and was thought to be returning. Instead she packed her bags full of all the underwear she bought to seduce the new addicts and checked out. At least Richie Sambora doesn’t have to worry about Lohan sabotaging his chance at sobriety:

Lindsay Lohan has checked out of the exclusive Cirque Lodge Treatment Center in Utah, where she has been since August, multiple sources, including both of her parents, confirm to PEOPLE.

“She’s finished the program,” one source says. “Lindsay is done, but she may come back for outpatient treatment. She over-extended her stay because she wanted to. She could have been out awhile ago, but she chose to stay.”

Lohan’s mother, Dina, told PEOPLE Friday: “I’m proud of her. She’s moving ahead with her life. Things were getting out of control. She took action. She took responsibility. She really needed to heal.”

Lohan was photographed Friday afternoon with her father Michael, who carried her suitcases, leaving Cirque Lodge. “I will be there in her life as best I can but from here on she’s going to have a lot of decisions to make on her own,” Michael told PEOPLE Friday. “Now that she is going out into the world, I can only hope for the best.”

[From People.com]

I wonder if Lindsay is going to take a page from Paris’ predictable handbook and start carrying around spiritual books, going to church, and dressing conservatively? You have to hand it to Paris, she worked that angle to death before she went to prison. There’s also the Britney route - continue to get high and drunk and go out to as many high profile places as you can manage, letting the world know that it’s your career and life to ruin.

If Lohan knows what’s best for her she’ll lay low, emerging only for trips to the bookstore, church, AA meetings and the occasional angel-themed knick knack store. She did stay in rehab for two months so maybe she realizes that she needs to change her image if she’s going to keep working. Whether she took it to heart or not is another issue, and from the stories that came out about her antics in rehab I would bet that she hasn’t changed her attitude.

Lohan will start filming the movie Dare to Love Me in LA on October 15th. She still has to serve a day in prison and 10 days community service and is on probation for 36 months. She has until January 18, 2008 to complete her community service and serve her jail sentence.

Lohan is shown in an older image at the Costume Institute Gala on 5/7/07. I’m sure there will be new photos of her soon that aren’t taken by X17. Thanks to PRPhotos for this pic.
