Oliver Stone’s son Sean converts to Islam, claims H’wood bias against Muslims

I have mixed feelings about director Oliver Stone’s politics and his films. I have no doubt that Stone is brilliant – but he’s also a historical revisionist, a hopeless self-promoter and a balls-out conspiracy theorist, and sometimes those issues can lead him down some bad paths. I never realized that Oliver had an adult son, though – his son’s name is Sean, and he’s got a Hollywood career too, sort of. I looked through Sean Stone’s IMDB, and it seems like he’s a bit actor on his father’s films, plus he makes many of the “Behind the Scenes” featurette documentaries for his dad’s films. But Sean has a burgeoning career as a director too – he directed a short film a few years ago, and now he’s got his first full-length feature coming out, a horror film called Graystone. Sean isn’t expecting to work in Hollywood much longer – and his reason might surprise you. Sean has converted to Islam, and he just made a trip to Iran where he discussed his (new) faith and how his faith in Allah is the same as everyone else’s faith in a Christian or Jewish God. Sidenote: no one ever includes Hindus in the mix.

Sean Stone, son of controversial director Oliver Stone, converted to Islam in Iran last week and says he’s already experiencing a Hollywood backlash. The ceremony was held in Isfahan, where he is researching a documentary. He now goes by the name of Sean Christopher Ali Stone.

He told Page Six: “I’ve already experienced the reverse of anti-Semitism, having people within the film industry express a reluctance to work with me now that I have said a simple prayer, ‘There is no God but God, and Mohammed is his messenger.’ I am sure I have [bleeped] off some powerful people.”

Speaking over dinner at Barrio 47, Sean told us, “Having read the Koran and having been around the Islamic culture, especially in Iran, I do believe that Mohammed is a prophet of the same god worshipped by other religions. I am of a Jewish bloodline, a baptized Christian who accepts Christ’s teachings, the Jewish Old Testament and the Holy Koran. I believe there is one God, whether called Allah or Jehovah or whatever you wish to name him. He creates all peoples and religions. I consider myself a Jewish Christian Muslim.”

“What I am trying to do is open up a dialogue about religion. There is such Islamophobia in the West. Islam is not a religion of violence any more than Judaism or Christianity is.”
He said his dad welcomed the move. My dad said, ‘Allah be with you.’ My father understands that I am trying to bridge certain gaps and bring about peace.”

But he has been shocked by the reaction from others. Sean, about to release his horror movie “Graystone,” said, “I didn’t realize I would be so vilified. It is almost like I am a criminal for having accepted Islam. I didn’t realize Islamophobia was that deep. People have speculated that I have done this because I am from a spoiled family or that I am lost and trying to find myself. That is ridiculous. I don’t care if I get criticized. If I can open up a debate about religion and create some understanding, then it is worth it.”

[From Page Six]

When he says something like “I consider myself a Jewish Christian Muslim,” Stone is pissing off more people than just Hollywood power players. That being said, I understand where he’s coming from, and the context of his message of acceptance and the embrace of our similarities (rather than warring over our differences) is needed more and more in our modern society. I feel like so many people don’t even understand that philosophically, Islam’s roots are in the Judeo-Christian tradition, and Muslims trace their Biblical ancestry through the same lines as the Christians and the Jews.

And if all else fails, I will be allow myself to be converted personally by Muslim Liam Neeson. But don’t mind me – I love my little sandalwood idols of Ganesha.

Nicki Minaj’s Grammy performance: derivative Gaga hot mess and/or sacrilegious?

21221223435 by YardieGoals
This news came out yesterday, but that just goes to show how much we pay attention to Nicki Minaj, even when she’s making headlines for yet another stunt. So Nicki took a page out of the Madonna/Lady Gaga handbook and went for shock value with a religious-themed exorcism and alter ego performance at The Grammys. Not only was it a bad copy of something we’ve seen other artists do to death, it was also predictably offensive to religious groups. The girl showed up at the Grammys in a Red Riding Hood nun costume with a Pope lookalike in tow. Of course she expected this kind of backlash and she was surely hoping for it in order to extend whatever mileage she could get out of her performance. It worked, sort of. I’m not thinking she’ll be around much longer, but that was my assumption about Katy Perry circa 2008′s “I Kissed a Girl” and I was so wrong about that. Here’s more on the controversy:

Nicki Minaj is known for her over-the-top stage persona, but her performance at Sunday’s 54th Annual Grammy Awards took things to a whole new level.
Wearing an Oscar de la Renta dress, the 29-year-old shocked viewers when she performed her new song “Roman Holiday” for the very first time. Channeling her alter ego Roman Zolanski, Minaj’s performance pushed religious boundaries.

“I had this vision for Roman for him to be sort of exorcised,” she explained on Ryan Seacrest’s KIIS-FM radio show Monday. “People around him tell him he’s not good enough because he’s not normal and he’s not blending in with the Average Joe.”

The Grammy nominee’s performance included a Catholic confessional, demonic possession, dancing monks and a levitation scene.

“The people around him are afraid because they’ve never seen anything like him. He wanted to show that not only is he amazing . . . but he’s never going to change. He’s never going to be exorcised,” Minaj said. “Even when they throw the holy water on him, he still rises above.”

The rapper’s performance angered the the right-wing Catholic League, who issued a press release condemning it Monday. “Whether Minaj is possessed is surely an open question,” president Bill Donohue said, “but what is not in doubt is the irresponsibility of The Recording Academy. Never would they allow an artist to insult Judaism or Islam.”

“It’s bad enough that Catholics have to fight for their rights vis-a-vis a hostile administration in Washington without also having to fend off attacks in the entertainment industry,” Donohue seethed. “The net effect, however, will only embolden Catholics, as well as their friends in other faith communities.”

[From US Weekly]

A male alter ego named Roman Zolanski, really?

I’m a former Catholic, so I’m probably not the person who should be commenting on this, but you know I will anyway. In theory I don’t have a problem with making fun of Catholicism. It’s not like they’re some persecuted religion struggling for recognition. They’re a huge, powerful religion with a history of abusing their power. Nicki’s performance was incredibly over the top, though, and unlike Madonna or Gaga she didn’t just use a few religious props – she threw the whole lot at us in one sensory-assaulting go. It’s like a church threw up all over an 80s music video. Some people are saying that this performance wasn’t just offensive to Catholics, but to Christians in general and that it was inappropriate for the Grammys. Personally I’m not offended, but I can see how people would be.

My issue with this performance is how much it sucks and uses religion for cheap shock value. It starts with a confessional booth and an exorcism and takes place in a faux church complete with dancing monks and altar boys. They even have the stained glass windows “shatter.” Give me a break. At least she’s singing live and not lip syncing.

Kate Moss’s W Magazine cover shoot: offensive and sacrilegious?

Kate Moss covers the March 2012 issue of W Magazine, and these are some selected images from the cover shoot – you can see the full slideshow here at W. She got TWO covers actually, although I have only three words for this Steven Klein shoot: What. The. Frick. In God’s name, WHY? While I’ve never been all-about-Kate, I think she’s rock-and-roll and I think she’s one hell of a model. As in, she’s intriguing and interesting to look at, and she’s incredibly photogenic. This photo shoot is filled with a strange blend of religious and sacrilegious imagery, birds, spiders and corpse styling, and it’s maybe the worst Kate has ever looked, right? Yes, the images are “striking”. The last images of Lindsay Lohan are “striking” as well, but that doesn’t mean I’m going to slap the “supermodel” label on a walking corpse.

Of course, W Magazine didn’t get an interview with Moss. Instead, W got Will Self to write this oddly sycophantic piece about Kate and how she’s aging yet not-aging. You can read it here – I’m not going to bother excerpting it. I will, however, put up some quotes from angry Christians who are royally pissed off with this photo shoot:

While the Kate Moss-W Magazine photos are a hit with aspiring fashionistas, they have caused outrage among conservative groups, RadarOnline.com can exclusively reveal.

“Clearly W magazine needs to generate some controversy to pretend it matters, so it’s turned to today’s standby and decided to bash Christianity,” Dan Gainor of the Culture and Media Institute exclusively told RadarOnline.com.

“Everything W has done here, from making the issue the ‘Fashion Bible’ to having Moss hold a crucifix provocatively between her legs, is designed to provoke controversy and mock religion. We get it, hating Christians is certainly in fashion.

“Interestingly, W tried to create twin covers showing a good and a bad Kate Moss. Given how twisted W is for mocking religion, they should have stuck to just one cover — the bad — to reflect the magazine itself. While Moss can be faulted for appearing in this spread, it’s the responsibility of the magazine’s editors not to try to profit by denigrating faith. Instead of high-brow fashion, readers get low-brow bigotry,” he concluded.

[From Radar]

You know how dumb I am? I didn’t even get the whole “fashion bible” reference until that Radar thing. Anyway, even though I’m not going to get all up in arms over the religious stuff in the shoot, I do understand why these photos have upset the devout. Mostly the pics just upset me aesthetically, though. They made her look like crap!

Kim Kardashian, LeAnn Rimes are “church buddies” now: sacrilegious?

I really shouldn’t end the day on such a stupid story, but it’s my own fault for forgetting about it early this morning. E! News got their hands on a photo you just need to see for yourself – go look at it and come back. LeAnn Rimes and Kim Kardashian walking down the street together, looking chummy. What were they discussing? How both of them are a size 2? Hahahahaa. LeAnn is probably a 00. And Kim – bless her heart – routinely rounds down from a “12” to a “2”. But no, they were talking about diets or dress sizes. They were talking about Jesus. For real.

Kim Kardashian and LeAnn Rimes both love the same man: Jesus Christ!

On Sunday, the duo attended Life Change Community Church service in Agoura Hills, Calif.

Kardashian, 31, and Rimes, 29, are also both fans of Brad Johnson, the church’s esteemed pastor…

But the E! reality icon and the hit-making country star weren’t the only ones singing from the hymn book. Kourtney Kardashian, Mason Disick and Kris Jenner joined Kim at the service, and Rimes’ hubby Eddie Cibrian joined her for worship.

“Great seeing you and the fam,” LeAnn tweeted to Kim. “See you soon! Xoxo”

Kim, who described her churchgoing Sunday as the “perfect day,” echoed Rimes’ enthusiasm. “You too babe!” she replied. “See you soon! Xoxo”

For Rimes, who is recovering from minor mouth surgery last week, some spiritual healing was just what she needed. She tweeted to a fan that “friend and hubby time always helps” on the road to recovery.

These two gals seem like they’d be fun Bible-study buddies!

[From E! News]

I would be offended if I wasn’t so amused. I mean… they’re obviously just doing this to bring their famewhoring power together in perpetuity, correct? They’re not actually trying to convince anyone that they’re both deeply religious people? I think Kim is probably the one driving this Famewhore Extravaganza – she wants to change her image, so she’s been talking about bible study groups and Tim Tebow and such. She’s probably too stupid to realize how deeply sacrilegious her very existence is. As for LeAnn – well, I’ll buy that she’s been in a church before. I believe she and Eddie have done some photo-ops coming and going from church before. LeAnn probably sees herself as a martyr. Just like Jesus, y’all.

Liam Neeson is considering a conversion to Islam after trip to Istanbul

Liam Neeson has the voice, bearing, conscience and heart of a holy man, in my opinion. I could easily see him, in another world, being a parish priest, a bishop, or God knows, even the most rough-and-tumble pope ever. Liam was raised as a strict Roman-Catholic, but it’s believed that his faith in the Catholic church has dwindled over the years, and perhaps even faltered completely following the death of his much beloved wife Natasha Richardson. GAH – I just completely lost focus when I went back and re-read Liam’s interview with Esquire last year, when he talked at length about Natasha. Anyway, Liam was recently filming in Istanbul, Turkey, and while he was enjoying the location, he found himself incredibly moved by the daily calls to prayer. And now he’s thinking of converting?

He may have been named after the local priest in his Irish hometown but Liam Neeson could be leaving his Roman Catholic beliefs behind. The 59-year-old actor is said to be considering converting to Islam following a working trip to Istanbul.

According to The Sun, Neeson admitted that Islamic prayer ‘got into his spirit’ while he was filming in Turkey.

‘The call to prayer happens five times a day, and for the first week, it drives you crazy, and then it just gets into your spirit, and it’s the most beautiful, beautiful thing,’ he said.

‘There are 4,000 mosques in the city. Some are just stunning, and it really makes me think about becoming a Muslim.’

Neeson was raised in Northern Ireland as a devout Roman Catholic due to his parents beliefs.

However, the Taken star has recently spoken about his opinion towards religion.

‘I was reared a Catholic, but I think every day we ask ourselves, not consciously, what are we doing on this planet? What’s it all about?’ he said. ‘I’m constantly reading books on God or the absence of God and atheism.’

The actor was criticised in 2010 after claiming The Chronicles Of Narnia lion, Aslan, who he provided the voice for in the film, was not based on Christ as CS Lewis had claimed but in fact all spiritual leaders including Mohammed.

[From The Mail]

I think he’s just talking, you know? He’s not like, “I listened to the prayers and I found Allah!” He’s just interested, as a student of religion, as a citizen of the world. He’s not confined by his Catholic upbringing and he seems to be encouraging the peaceful study of all religions. Or, whatever, he’s now a Muslim. What would the world look like if Liam Neeson converted to Islam?

Gwyneth Paltrow uses Goop to take on Biblical readings of homosexuality

wenn3362031

I’m not going to make fun of Gwyneth Paltrow in this post! Sorry, Goop-Love-To-Haters. This is one of the rare occasions where Gwyneth’s weekly GOOP newsletter is really interesting. In this week’s very special GOOP, Gwyneth and her dear BFF, her favorite fisherman, Jesus “H.” Christ tackle homosexuality (that was wrong, I apologize). Gwyneth – who is currently Jewish by blood on her dad’s side, and by choice because of Kabbalah – decided to focus this week’s GOOP on the various religious interpretations of Biblical teachings on homosexuality. It’s pretty good. Here’s Gwyneth’s forward, and you can read the full GOOP-letter here.

A few months ago, in the heat of the tragic teen suicides that came about from intolerance of homosexuality, I saw a man on television who was apologizing for wishing death on gays from his facebook page. This member of an Arkansas school board was contrite for the violence in his words, but maintained that his values pertaining to homosexuality would remain, as he felt homosexuality was condemned in the bible. This concept, while foreign to me, is interesting, as it used to justify so much judgement and separation in our society. When my daughter came home from school one day saying that a classmate had two mommies, my response was, “Two mommies? How lucky is she?!” What does it actually say in the bible that will cause some people to be upset by my line of thinking?

Happy pride.
Love,
gp

[From GOOP]

After that, Gwyneth and Jesus sit back and eat some grilled chicken, fresh from her must-have outdoor wood-burning oven, and Goop & JC let the scholars take over. Cynthia Bourgeault (Episcopal priest, writer and retreat leader), Michael Berg (a Kabbalah scholar and author), and Father Vincent C. Schwahn (an ordained priest in the Episcopal Church) all take on the philosophical, moral and religious issue of God and Gays, and then Gwyneth makes a point about “including a more conservative voice” and instead of simply contacting one of the many anti-gay religious people, she just excerpts from Dr. John Stott’s book, Issues Facing Christians Today. I’m telling you, this GOOP was a good read. I like the way Gwyneth handled it.

Brad Pitt on his religious childhood: “I found it very stifling”

fp_7321502_ang_treeoflife_pittjolie_27_89

As promotion for Tree of Life heats up, I’m finding that most media outlets really want to discuss the character Brad Pitt is playing in specific terms. Some say he’s playing an physically and emotionally abusive father. Some say he’s just playing a typically “strong” father of the 1950s. I’m still not sure, but Brad is getting good reviews for his performance, and some are even hinting at another Oscar nomination for him. Of course, the film is kind of controversial, and some people absolutely hate it (thus, the handful of boos at yesterday’s screening). Director Terrence Malick seems to want to raise discussions about religion and family and the universe, etc. So when Brad got some questions about how he was raised, he took the bait:

Brad Pitt was in Cannes on Monday, promoting his new film, “The Tree of Life,” and talking about how he would like his kids to perceive the film, and his reflections on his own upbringing.

“I think of everything I do now that my kids are going to see when they grow up and how are they going to feel,” Pitt told reporters Monday at the 2011 Cannes Film Festival. “But they know me as a dad and I hope they’ll just think of me as a pretty damn good actor.”

Pitt plays a father bringing up his family in 1950s Texas in Terrence Malick’s long-awaited film, and the actor confessed his own childhood had its ups and downs.

“I got brought up being told things were God’s way, and when things didn’t work out it was called God’s plan,” he said. “I’ve got my issues with it. Don’t get me started. I found it very stifling.”

[From Extra]

I think Brad is pretty much an agnostic at this point. Maybe even an atheist. He’s talked before about how religion “doesn’t work” for him but I think he tends to use “religion” as a catch-all for organized religions, for Christianity and his parents’ faith. My guess? Brad is kind of Buddhist. Budget Buddhist.

Linnocent refuses to be indoctrinated by the Church of Scientology

fp_7271664_lohan_lindsay_roq_03_06

These are some new shots of Linnocent going in or out of her court-ordered community service. Is she wearing a bra this time? I can’t tell. I’m not even sure she owns a bra. She probably can’t afford one, right? She blows all of her hooker money on tequila and blow…? Allegedly.

Anyway, you know how Linnocent is going to be working with John Travolta on the Gotti movie? Well, there have been rumors that the Church of Scientology is trying to “get” Linnocent. This would be an interesting “get” for Xenu, but how in the world do you indoctrinate a delusional, narcissistic, crackheaded sociopath? You don’t. You can’t. Thus, Linnocent ran to TMZ to correct the record:

Lindsay Lohan is NOT joining the Church of Scientology … TMZ has learned — despite reports claiming John Travolta was trying to indoctrinate the actress into his religion.

Sources close to Lindsay tell TMZ, the actress has no plans whatsoever to become a Scientologist — she hasn’t taken any classes with the Church … and hasn’t even been asked to visit by current members.

We’re told Lindsay has nothing against the Church — but she was raised Catholic and plans to stay Catholic … in fact, she remains an avid practitioner to this day.

It’s all in response to several reports on Friday — that Lindsay made inroads with the Church of Scientology under the guidance of “Gotti” co-star John Travolta … but it just ain’t true.

[From TMZ]

Hahahaha, an “avid practitioner” of Catholicism. Meaning this, I suppose:

linnocentchrist2

Or this:

linnocentchrist1

Yeah. So devout. Jesus is all, “Ugh, this bitch.”

In other Linnocent news, a few days ago, TMZ “broke the story” that Paris Hilton “dropped the hammer” on Linnocent. Except that TMZ totally blew the whole thing out of proportion, and it’s basically like TMZ is just the girl in middle school who loves to tell everybody about how her friend Paris said this and that about her friend Lindsay and, like, OMG! Anyway, Paris was doing charity work at some homeless shelter, and a homeless woman asked for Paris’s earrings. Paris took them off and gave the earrings to the lady, who in turn asked Paris “Lindsay, why aren’t you in rehab?” Paris says – in voice over (because this was all part of her reality show) – that if she was Lindsay, she would be stealing the earrings, not giving them away. Um… yeah. Burn? Anyway, Linnocent was all “OMG, that’s SO MEAN!” and Paris went to TMZ and said “I apologize to Lindsay for the comment that I made. I was joking around but it was thoughtless and unnecessary. I am reaching out to Lindsay so I can tell her myself.” Snore.

Katy Perry’s mom is scandalized by Katy’s boobs, wants her to be a faith healer

wenn28631491
About two weeks ago we heard the news that Katy Perry’s mom is shopping a book that reportedly gives her take on Katy’s rise to fame. Katy’s mom and dad are freelance pentecostal preachers. Advance details of the book at the time had Katy’s mom “disagreeing” with “a lot of choices [Katy] makes in her career.” I’ve heard that Katy bought her mom a facelift, and I’ve seen photos of Katy’s parents posing with her on the red carpet at the Get Him To The Greek premiere. They certainly don’t come across like typical ministers, and it seems hypocritical of Katy’s mom to shop a tell all on one hand and enjoy the perks of her daughter’s fame on the other.

Well now we have some more excerpts from the book proposal, and it sounds even worse. Katy’s mom, Mary Perry Hudson, describes how she was shocked to see Katy’s boobs hanging out in a dress. She also explains her mixed feelings about Katy’s first hit “I Kissed a Girl.” Mary felt conflicted in that she was elated by Katy’s success on one hand and scandalized by the content of her music on the other.

Teenage Dream” is a middle-aged nightmare for her evangelistic mom — who complains in a book proposal that, “no mother wants to see the top of her daughter’s boobs.”

As we reported last week, preacher Mary Perry Hudson has been shopping a proposal on how her daughter’s racy lyrics, “foul-mouthed fiancé” — now husband Russell Brand — and suggestive outfits have affected her Christian ministry.

In the full proposal obtained by Page Six, she describes her horror at Katy’s outfits: Backstage at a concert, “Katy stepped out from behind the changing doors in a tiny risqué costume. No mother wants to see the top of her daughter’s boobs . . . My first instinct was to order her back behind those doors and demand she put something else on . . . However, I had no problem letting my eyebrows say what I wouldn’t allow my mouth to utter.”

“I recognized the psalmist gift in her performance. Yet she sang out, ‘I kissed a girl, and I liked it,’ while thousands joined her. One part of my heart soared . . . the other part broke for the thousands of hungry souls being fed something that didn’t nourish their spirit, but fed their flesh.”

Mary compares her mother-daughter relationship to the conflicts between Billy Ray Cyrus and Miley Cyrus, and Jon Voight and Angelina Jolie, “whose children have risen to fame and live contrary to their parents’ beliefs.”

Mary also frets, “Oh, dear God, how can I save her from all this? The money, the fame, the network, the people surrounding her, how can I compete?”

She also sets out: “This memoir is . . . not Christian proselytizing or a Katy Perry tell-all.” But in a note about target markets, she writes, “Fans of Katy Perry and Russell Brand will flock to the bookstores to snatch up a copy . . . either through curiosity or obsession, to get a glimpse of their stars through Mary’s eyes.” A rep for Perry didn’t get back to us.

[From The NY Post]

On some level I get it, you can’t control what you kids do and when they veer pretty far from your beliefs (whatever they are, it’s not like I share this lady’s sentiments at all) it can be hard to take. They’re you kids, though, and you need to take it up with them, not the public. Airing family dirty laundry to make a buck is in no way a Christian value.

Also – how is it that big a deal to see your adult kids’ boobs? I don’t get the shock and awe over some damn cleavage. It’s incredibly closed-minded to say “No mother wants to see the top of her daughter’s boobs” as if everyone in the world has the kind of irrational fear of the human body that she does.

Mary was quoted a couple of years ago as saying a about Katy’s “I Kissed a Girl” song that “she knows we disagree strongly with what she is doing and the message she is promoting regarding homosexuality which the Bible clearly states is a sin.” (To be fair, those quotes were in the Daily Mail and could have been fabricated.) As so many of you pointed out in the comments, the Bible is full of conflicting information that people use to tray and further whatever agenda they have. I’m sure she can come up with a few quotes that help her justify selling out her daughter in order to make some cash and get a taste of fame on her own. She’s just doing it to spread the word of God, right?

Katy Perry’s religious mom shopping a memoir, ‘disagrees’ with Katy’s career

wenn2863149

I’ve heard that Katy Perry’s parents are super religious – her dad was a “freelance” pentecostal preacher, but she’s said that they are supportive of her music career and I’ve assumed they’re somewhat liberal culturally. A profile of Katy in 2009 claimed that in the 60s her mom dated Jimi Hendrix and her dad dealt LSD with Timothy Leary, but some of you pointed out how fake and made up that sounds, like a publicist’s dream.

In an interview with Glamour UK last year, Katy joked that her mom had an inappropriately flirty relationship with her husband Russell Brand (he was just her fiance at that time). She also told Rolling Stone around that time that her parents regularly speak in tongues and claimed that “it’s a secret, direct prayer language to God.” And we heard unconfirmed stories that Katy bought her mom a facelift and her dad was super excited about it. So I basically put all that together and got the impression that Katy’s family was very religious, but was happily living off some of the millions she’s siphoning to them and was fine with her career and choice of a marriage partner.

Now there’s news that Katy’s mom is shopping a book, and that she’ll state that she “disagrees” with her daughter’s choice of career. It’s probably just a mild disagreement, but it still doesn’t sit right with me.

Katy Perry’s preacher mother, Mary Perry Hudson, is shopping a book about how her pop-star daughter has impacted her Christian ministry, and admits that while she’s proud of Katy, she “disagrees with a lot of choices she makes in her career.”

Hudson shopped the proposal, seen by Page Six, to New York’s literary agents hoping to land a publishing deal. “This memoir is her story, in her own words. Mary and Keith Hudson have been Christian Evangelists long before the world every heard of Katy Perry,” the proposal begins.

Following her debut single, “Ur So Gay,” the raunchy singer’s career took off with her smash hit “I Kissed a Girl.” She flaunted bust-bearing outfits and sexy bad-boy husband Russell Brand while comparing her upbringing to “Jesus Camp” and recalling speaking in tongues and channeling messages from God. Perry admitted kissing girls before marrying confessed sex-addict Brand.

Perry told Rolling Stone last year, “Speaking in tongues is as normal to me as ‘Pass the salt’ . . . It’s a secret, direct prayer language to God. My dad speaks in tongues and my mom interprets it . . . I wasn’t ever able to say I was lucky because my mother would rather us say that we were blessed. Deviled eggs were called ‘angeled’ eggs.”

Her mother’s proposal states: “Amid a torrent of negative reports from tabloid magazines and entertainment shows, Mary Hudson wants to tell ‘her story’ and dispel a lot of rumors. Katy’s success has impacted her ministry in both negative and positive ways.

“She loves her daughter very much and is very proud of her accomplishments, but disagrees with a lot of choices she makes in her career. This memoir is to set the record straight. It is not Christian proselytizing or a Katy Perry tell-all. It is the story of Mary Perry Hudson.”

Co-writer T.L. Gray told us, “We currently have interest from a couple of different agencies, but have not signed with anyone . . . Mary also just completed a Christian book called ‘Joyful Mother’ that will be released soon from Destiny Image . . . we’ve been playing around with a few different titles.” A rep for Perry didn’t get back to us.

[From The NY Post]

Back in 2008, Katy’s mom supposedly told the Daily Mail that she Katy was promoting the “sin” of homosexuality with her first single, “I Kissed a Girl.” Mary Perry Hudson is quoted as saying “Katy is our daughter and we love her but we strongly disagree with how she is conducting herself at the moment.

‘We cannot cut her out of our lives as she is our child but she knows we disagree strongly with what she is doing and the message she is promoting regarding homosexuality which the Bible clearly states is a sin.

“But the Bible also promotes understanding and forgiveness, which I keep reminding myself.

I thought those quotes had to be fake at the time, but given this latest news maybe she really said that. It’s a shame because I thought Katy’s parents weren’t so closed minded.

Photos are from 5/26/10 at the Get Him To The Greek premiere. Katy’s parents are also shown out with Russell Brand on 8/2/10. Katy is also shown at the German launch of her perfume on 3/11/11. Credit: WENN.com
