Rosario Dawson taking a break from acting to promote voter participation

I have to admit, I really love election season. Not just for the politics – in fact I’d be making myself sound much deeper than I really am if I said that was a big part of it. I like that it adds a new layer to celebrity news. Instead of hearing about Paris Hilton’s shoe collection, we can write about Paris’ political leanings. Alright that particular example doesn’t work, as Paris only recently learned that we’ve been in a war for the past couple years.

But some celebs use their fame to promote good causes. And that’s something I’m a big fan of. Actress Rosario Dawson is taking a season off from working in order to get voters to the polling booths. Rosario is currently working on two films but will be wrapped by the fall, and has passed on all other projects until after the election.

“I decided I’m not going to be working at all through the fall,” the actress – who’ll be seen in Eagle Eye with Shia LaBoeuf and Seven Pounds with Will Smith – told PEOPLE. Instead, she plans to work at voter drives across the country sponsored by her non-profit Voto Latino.

“We’re targeting the Latin youth vote,” said Dawson, 28. “There’s 18 million [people who] are eligible. But we are not showing that up in votes. So our numbers aren’t counting. When you actually … work with local organizations – that makes the biggest impact, and that’s what I want to be a part of.”

Dawson (who admits she didn’t vote for president until 2004, the same year she started Voto Latino) will be at both Democratic and Republican conventions as part of her efforts to reach young Latinos.

“The reason why I co-founded Voto Latino is because of my mom,” she told the crowd in D.C. “It’s because of my grandmother. It’s because I was raised to do it yourself. You want that to be better? You do it yourself.”

[From People]

My first reaction to the part about Rosario not voting the same year she started Voto Latino was that it wasn’t all that smart to admit to it. But I think it actually makes her more accessible to the people she’s trying to target. She’s aiming for those that haven’t been voting, and it lets her honestly say “Look, I know where you’re coming from, I didn’t think one vote mattered either.” Presumably she’ll be setting a great example by voting in a few months. Good for her for really getting out there, seeing a problem, and actively doing something to combat it.

Here’s Rosario introducing Voto Latino’s ‘Crash the Parties ‘08′ campaign in Washington DC on Tuesday. Images thanks to WENN.

Rosario Dawson and Jason Lewis Split Up

Rosario Dawson’s mini bangs must have been fugly enough to scare away “Sex and the City” hottie Jason Lewis, who has been her boyfriend for over two years. The two seemed inseparable and weren’t shy about the PDA while making appearances at events together. Now rumor has it that this sweeter than Skittles couple has broken up. This somehow depresses me more than Reese and Ryan, because I was really looking forward to their pretty kids:

One of Hollywood’s most beautiful couples, Rosario Dawson and Jason Lewis, have reportedly split. The actress was overheard telling a friend about the break-up in a New York restaurant over the weekend, explaining she was having to fly to Los Angeles to clear her belongings from the Hollywood home she shares with the actor.

Dawson and Lewis started dating in 2004 and moved in together exactly a year ago. The actress has often cooed about her man, a former model, in interviews. In one recent article, she gushed, “He’s just a wonderful human being. He’s generous and loving and intelligent and warm and funny.”

A publicist who represents both Lewis and Dawson had not responded to calls.

Please let them get back together - or let Lewis hook up on the rebound with the newly slender Britney. I would like to cover that story.

Remember when Lindsay Lohan text messaged with that guy named Jason Lewis who convinced her he was the actor? Those were good times. She’d surely take up with him, but I have a feeling that is even less likely than the Britney scenario.

Rosario Dawson looks pregnant

Rosario Dawson, who is featured in Alexander, Rent, and Sin City, goes out with uber-hottie Jason Lewis, who played Samantha’s boyfriend on Sex and the City. In the last two events she was photographed at, The Costume Institute Gala on 5/1, and The Roberto Cavalli Vodka Release Party yesterday, she wore a loose gown and looked like she was sporting a little baby bump. There’s even a picture of her at the Costume Institute Gala putting her hand over her stomach.

Dawson, 27, and Lewis, 34, were first linked together in the summer of 2004. She dated Colin Farrell earlier that year, and J.Lo’s ex, dancer Chris Judd, in 2002.

Dawson will appear in Clerks II, and will reprise her role in Sin City 2 opposite Angelina Jolie.

If our overactive imagination is correct - congratulations to Dawson and Lewis. Their child is going to be gorgeous.

Here’s our flimsy evidence:

Costume Institute Gala over 100 photos

The Costume Institute Gala at the Metropolitan Museum of Art held a ball last night to celebrate the opening of an exhibit on British design. Sienna Miller, wearing an awful gold sequined minidress and black tights, served as co-chair for the event.

The star-studded Costume Institute Gala was the opening event for a new exhibition celebrating British design at New York’s prestigious Metropolitan Museum of Art.

The flamboyant show, made up of themed rooms including a Hunt Ball and a Gentleman’s Club, is the latest example of the city’s growing obsession with all things from across the pond.

Celebrities from the UK including Liz Hurley, Kate Moss and Naomi Campbell put on their glad rags for the lavish event.

The Americans were represented by A-listers including Jennifer Lopez, Sarah Jessica Parker and Richard Gere.

The British-born editor of American Vogue, Anna Wintour, swept in first.

Miller, who teamed her glittering frock with opaque black tights and wore her hair tied back in a simple ponytail, shared the limelight with Christopher Bailey, the creative director of Burberry.

He and Wintour were the starlet’s fellow co-chairs. The fashion house and Vogue publisher Condé Nast have sponsored the exhibition.

The guy dressed like a cabaret pirate posing with Charlize Theron is Dior designer John Galiano. He’s responsible for her monstrosity of an Oscar gown with the giant shoulder bow. Sienna Miller is shown with Christopher Bailey, Burberry’s creative director.

We have over 100 pictures from the event. Stars and designers attending include Alexander McQueen, Sarah Jessica Parker, Jennifer Lopez, Marc Anthony, John Galliano, Charlize Theron, Lindsay Lohan, Victoria Beckham, Emmy Rossum, Eva Mendes, Gisele Bundchen, Gretchen Mol, Jessica Alba, Josh Hartnett, Lenny Kravitz, Donatella Versace, Rupert Everett, Linda Evangelista and Amber Valetta, Jessica Alba, Marcia Gay Harden, Mary-Kate Olsen, Ashley Olsen, Melania Trump, Donald Trump, Molly Sims, Rosario Dawson, Scarlett Johansson, Stella McCartney, Amanda Peet, Andre Leon Talley, Naomi Campbell, Angela Lindvall, Angie Harmon, Billie Joe Armstrong of Green Day, Bridget Moynahan, Tom Brady, Chloe Sevigny, Ciara, Dita Von Teese and Marliyn Manson, Drew Barrymore, Elizabeth Hurley, Erin O’Connor, Matthew Williamson, Eve, Gina Gershon, Ginnifer Goodwin, Ivana Trump, Jacquetta Wheeler, Jason Lewis, Jessica Stam, John Legend, Johnny Rotten, Josh Lucas, Joy Bryant, Julia Stegner, Iselin Steiro, Karolina Kurkova, Lily Cole, Lauren Bush, Lily Donaldson, Gemma Ward, Liv Tyler, Francisco Costa, Lydia Hearst, Mandy Moore, Minnie Driver, Nick Cannon, Petra Nemcova, Rachel Roy, Damon Dash, Ralph Fiennes, Richard Gere, Cary Lowell, Thandie Newton, Selma Blair, Shalom Harlow, Sienna Miller, Christopher Bailey, designer for Burberry, Zooey Deschanel, Sophie Dahl, Ivanka Trump, Mark Ruffalo, Taye Diggs, Idima Menzel, and Sarah Wynter.
