I think the thing to do is feel some kind of sympathy for Sandra Bullock. Because it’s all over her face – this time last year, she was at the height of her winning streak, she gushed about her husband from the Kodak Theatre stage as she accepted her Best Actress Oscar, and she had quietly adopted a baby boy (which we wouldn’t find out about for another two months). Sandy was in a much different position this year, but I liked that she didn’t play it for sympathy. You got the feeling that she truly just wanted people to pay attention to the nominees. I’m glad that she chose a bright red gown – Sandy is not going to play “The Widow James” in black. Sandy’s red is Vera Wang – it’s not really the most flattering color on Sandy, and I think her makeup is a little underdone, but still. You’ve got to love her. Her presenting Best Actor was another one of my favorite moments – especially when she called Jeff Bridges “dude”.

Jennifer Hudson in orange-red Atelier Versace. During the red carpet show, this dress looked more red, but in photos, it looks totally orange. Whatever. Now, while I think J-Hud looks great and I’m proud of her for losing the weight and being healthy… I hate this dress on her. It’s just the top – and what it’s doing to her boobs. It’s really ugly and unflattering and trashy. And I hate saying that about J-Hud, but the boob situation in this dress is tragic.

Jennifer Lawrence was one of my best dressed of the night – I thought this Calvin Klein dress looked amazing on her. I don’t know if it was fully lined with all-body Spanx or what, but there was not one bulge or lump anywhere on her body. I also loved that she kept her hair down and her makeup simple. She’s very young, and she looked simple and sexy and appropriate.

Since the theme is “ladies in red” – Selena Gomez in a red Dolce & Gabbana dress at the Vanity Fair party, with her lover Justin Bieber. No comment.

We rarely cover a story that we’ve already featured as the lead link, but I want to write about this so badly it makes me itch. I love how Lainey covered this story in that her defense of Sandra Bullock’s naivete was almost poetic. In Lainey’s take she explains the fact that Sandra didn’t get a confidentiality agreement with her divorce declaration as another example of how Sandra trusted the slimebag, even after she was so publicly betrayed, up until the very end. Sandra pushed the divorce through in order to finalize her adoption of Louis, and by many accounts she was still talking to James and expected him to do the right thing. Of course he’s not going to, and is going to try and continue to humiliate her.

So Jesse James got a book deal with Simon and Schuster that will “divulge intimate details about his marriage to Sandra Bullock and his engagement to Kat von D.” I want to know what James is going to write exactly, and if he’s going to get into the detail of what he did day in and day out with various strippers and tattoo models on that coffin couch when he was supposed to be running a business. How is he going to explain that away, and how is he going to explain his fascination with the Third Reich? That’s neo-nazism and it goes way beyond an interest in history, just as his banging the lowest of the low goes way beyond seeking women to advertise his clothing and custom car business.

If Jesse owned up to his behavior, if he admitted to the crazy, self destruction, cruel sh*t he did to his family and to women over a span of months and years, only then I would read his book. You know that’s not going to happen, though. All he could manage in his Nightline interview were some crocodile tears and a trumped up unsupported story of childhood abuse, as if that explained away his behavior. Then he got engaged to a woman on his level and announced that 2010, the year he was exposed as a serial cheating conniving bastard was “The best year of my life.” Well all we can say to that is that it’s probably all downhill from here. He’s going to marry someone as manipulative as he is, and she’s not going to be much to come home to after he’s done picking up randoms on the Internet and in strip clubs when he’s supposed to be working. He’s met his match, though, and I can’t wait to see how fast and how publicly this relationship with Kat Von D implodes. You know it’s coming. They’ve already broken up at least once.

The sad thing is, this guy still has kids that live with him and depend on him, and he’s managed to alienate just about all the women in his life.

As I was reading through our exhaustive past coverage of this scumbag I found this story from June of last year in which In Touch reported that Jesse was fielding book offers back then. In Touch reported that “Jesse would never in a million years say a bad word about Sandra. He just wants to take responsibility, and explain why he did what he did.” So basically he’s going to repeat his Nightline “I was terrorized as a kid,” but it wasn’t physical abuse performance to make a bunch of excuses for himself, only this time he’ll get a ghostwriter to try and create some sort of interesting story out it. I think I’ll take a pass. He should go for the trashy details.

This story in In Touch cracked me the hell up. Supposedly Johnny Depp-morphing (read: gaining weight and growing scraggly facial hair without the style and substance to carry it off) John Mayer somehow propositioned Sandra Bullock through mutual friends or something. The details are scant and this story could be completely fabricated, but it made me laugh and you know Mayer would be down with Sandy if she’d have him. Sandra of course supposedly told Mayer she was flattered but would rather spend the night with her vibrator from 1999 even when the batteries are dead.

John Mayer thinks he’s the perfect man to cheer up the Oscar winner.

“John is trying hard to get fixed up with Sandra,” a mutual friend tells In Touch. And according to a pal, in typical John fashion, he’s got an ulterior motive. Following a string of high-profile romances that all ended badly, the singer is eager to repair his reputation, and he thinks that dating America’s Sweetheart will improve his “love them and leave them” image, says the pal. “John likes dating famous women, it’s a turn on for him,” explains the pal. “And who’s more famous than Sandra Bullock? He knows Sandra’s probably not going to date him, but he did offer to enter a friends-with-benefits situation.”

For her part, Sandra is amused by the attention. “She was flattered and had a good laugh when she found out about it, but she turned John down because she’s looking for a relationship and not just a booty call,” says the friend. “Sandra’s looking for someone to grow old with and she doesn’t think John’s the type who will ever settle down.”

How does this jibe with the report that John and Miley Cyrus were getting touchy-feely at the Grammys? (Sidenote: John called Miley a “child” in late 2009. I just found that story.) We know that John’s only type is “white” (sorry to be so blunt about that, but he said it) and that he goes for older as well as inappropriately younger women. So these reports aren’t mutually exclusive. Mayer could be sliming his pseudo intellectual douche all over Miley Cyrus while putting his feelers out for Sandra Bullock. Sandra’s been around the block, though. She knows what Mayer is about.

This got me thinking about Sandra Bullock’s love life. I hope she’s getting laid well and often and that she’s got a secret lover somewhere. She doesn’t have to settle for some rebound sex with Ryan Reynolds whenever it’s convenient for him.

I had the chance to read US Weekly’s cover story on Sandra Bullock’s reaction to the Jesse James Kat Von D mess, and it’s epic. This is the same outlet that breathlessly carried the intimate details of Sandra publicist-arranged post breakup trip to the Caribbean last October. I think it’s safe to assume that the version in this week’s US was at least reviewed by her publicist, and that Sandra suspects that James cheated on her with Kat while they were married. That’s never stated outright in the article, but is heavily implied and would absolutely be James’ M.O. Not only did Kat “model” for James’ magazine in 2007 (He was married to Sandra from 2005-2010), James openly admitted to Sandra that he had a crush on Kat. (Kat was also married at the time, but she separated from her then-husband in August of ’07, and he’s stated that she cheated on him.) To add insult to repeated injury, James never told Sandra that he was engaged to Kat, and Sandra found out through the press like everyone else. US’ version of events is in contrast to earlier stories that claim that James gave her a heads up.

Note that the bolded headers below are from me, except for the last one “Sandra & Ryan: Cooling Down.” The word “cheating” isn’t used in the article, but it’s obvious that’s what they’re talking about.

How Sandra found out about the engagement
According to a source, Bullock wasn’t even given a heads-up by James. Amazingly, she got the news the same way everybody else did…

“Jesse’s statement [on 2010 being the best year of his life] is just so malicious,” says a James ex-worker, noting that he had entered sex rehab last April in hopes of a second chance with Bullock. “He was pleading with her to take him back!”

On Jesse and Kat probably cheating in 2007
“Jesse has been obsessed with Kat for years,” says a Bullock source. “It was an open secret, even to Sandra.” In 2007, the then-Miami Ink star… was chosen as the Garage Gal of the year for Garage magazine, which James owned….

To celebrate, James threw Von D a party in Austin, which Bullock and Von D’s then-husband, Oliver Peck, attended…

Soon, Von D started hanging around the bike shop. James shortly named her a spokeswoman for the WCC clothing line and she posed for ads, and ex-employees say she was a regular visitor….

Jesse told Sandra that Kat was his dream woman
“Jesse always considered Kat his dream woman, and he even talked about it in front of Sandra!” says a Bullock source. “But Sandra never worried. Kat was the girl Jesse was allowed to have a jokey crush on. Sandra thought Jesse was in love with her, his wife, and never figured Jesse would do anything about Kat.

One friend speculates Von D may have been James’ “back-burner” girl during the marriage.

On how Sandra is doing
“Nothing shocks her anymore,” says a source, “but she’s still processing it. It’s messed up because it’s been nearly a year since the news of the affairs began, so it’s not like he’s continuing to try to hurt her…

“James like to rub things in people’s faces. He needs a new feather in his cap and probably feels like he’s winning now.”

[However] “Sandy is a no-BS kind of woman. She’s not caught up in his relationship with that tattooed woman.”

Sandra & Ryan – Cooling Down
After they rang in the new year together, dancing into the wee hours, Bullock and Reynolds had fans of their 2009 romantic comedy, The Proposal, hoping for an offscreen happy ending for the unlucky-in-love paid. But Bullock and Reynolds… seem to be back in “just friends” territory… “Friends would love to see them together,” a pal says of the pair. “But they really are just friends.”

The whole article was worded so carefully it points directly to Sandra’s people, and I don’t blame them. Jesse is predictably continuing to try and hurt her, and never seems to have emotionally matured beyond puberty. People say that she’s not as innocent and classy as she’s coming across, but I would disagree. She’s handled this whole thing expertly. Now cheater Kat will be able to experience firsthand what Sandra went though, except she can’t say she wasn’t forewarned.

Doesn’t it sound like Sandra is half admitting she had a little fling with Ryan and that it didn’t go anywhere? They’re “cooling down” and are “back” to just friends, as if they were hot and heavy for a little while. Fans of romantic comedies know that this is a typical plot scenario for the middle of the film. I’m just saying.

This is the real reason Jesse James’s engagement to Kat Von D sucks so hard – it has nothing to do with Kat being a psycho, or Jesse being a womanizing douche, or even how much sympathy we have for Sandra Bullock. It has everything to do with Jesse’s kids, and how Sandra Bullock tried to be a great step-mother, and how screwed up those kids are going to be when Kat gets her hands on them. According to PopEater, Sandra Bullock is trying to prepare 6-year-old Sunny for her new step-mom. Well… at least Sandra still gets to spend time with Sunny…? Ugh. What an awful situation.

Now that Sandra Bullock’s cheating ex, Jesse James, is engaged to Kat Von D and getting remarried as early as next month, the actress has the heartbreaking task of preparing her beloved stepdaughter, Sunny, for another mommy in her life.

“Sandra loves Sunny with all her heart and will always be in her life. However, she also knows that [Sunny] will have a new mommy soon and will do whatever she needs to do to make sure Jesse’s new wife and Sunny have a great relationship even if that means taking a step away,” a friend of the actress tells me.

Jesse was granted full custody of 6-year-old Sunny while he was still married to Sandra after her mother, former porn star Janine Lindemulder, was jailed for tax evasion. Sandra was instrumental in that court decision, telling the court she considered Sunny to be her own daughter.

“Sandra thought Jesse would never be able to hurt her again, but she was wrong,” an insider tells me. “When Jesse was in rehab it was Sandy who was a mother to his little girl. Despite what Jesse did, Sandra never walked away from Sunny.”

But now Sandra has the awkward task of prepping Sunny for her third mother figure in less than a year.

“She has given that sweet child nothing but love,” my source says. “As difficult as this will be, once again Sandra will prove what a lady she is.”

Ugh, God. I mean, I get that I shouldn’t just assume that Kat will be a horrible step-mother, but thinking about this situation just gives me a stress headache. I know I’m putting too much emphasis on Kat versus Sandra, when really Sunny is probably already screwed up just from having Jesse as a father (can you imagine?), and having Janine WhatsHerPorn as her mom. Sandra must seem like a calm, sane anchor in the hurricane of this child’s life. It’s all so sad.

Yesterday, we got an explanation for Sandra Bullock’s “Don’t look at me, don’t look at me” appearance at the Golden Globes – her ex-husband Jesse James is newly engaged to a psycho. Not only did Jesse announce his engagement to Kat Von D – he gave a whiny, insensitive, self-pitying, oblivious and hurtful interview to People Magazine where he claimed, amongst other things, that “2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend… I have never met anyone so kind and loving and committed to making the world a better place every day.” So these photos are Sandra Bullock’s answer. She just took Louis out and about in NYC. No formal statement, no tears, no half-naked photo shoot. Just this.

PopEater does report that Jesse gave Sandra a heads-up about the engagement announcement though. So she was… prepared for it, at least.

While the rest of America shook their heads in surprise at the swift engagement between Jesse James and his girlfriend of six months, Kat Von D., one woman took it all in stride: Jesse’s ex, Sandra Bullock.

Sources close to Sandy tell PopEater that she was given a heads up that this would come out this week and that while she isn’t exactly jumping for joy, she has accepted that Jesse is moving on with his life with Kat. Sandra’s biggest priority right now is her adopted son, Louis, and she isn’t planning to let anything get her off course from being the best mom she can be.

“It may seem like only yesterday that Jesse and Sandra split, but for her, life has changed so much, that it seems like ages ago,” our source tells us.

While Sandra and Jesse aren’t exactly close friends, they do have ways to keep information flowing between the two of them, and our source says that Jesse knew he needed to let Sandra know that things between him and Kat were serious.

“Sandra knew it was coming, and she was ready,” our source says.

It does seem like tattoo queen Kat is a much better match for bad boy Jesse James than the buttoned up Academy Award winner was. Jesse reiterated that sentiment in a statement about his future wife: “2010 was actually the best year of my life because I fell in love with my best friend,” he said.

Do you think she even cares at this point? I mean, I get that we aren’t even one year past the first revelation of Jesse’s infidelity, right on the heels of Sandra’s Oscar win last year. But don’t you think that at some point Sandra just looked at the women Jesse was boning… Bombshell McGee, Kat Von D, and those other chicks… don’t you think Sandra just realized that they’re trash? That he was a waste of time? I imagine it clicking for her suddenly, like, “Oh, I get it. I am SO much better than this loser. Life & Style has an interesting take on all of those Ryan Reynolds-Sandra Bullock stories. I don’t why this didn’t occur to me, but their cover story theorizes that Sandy and Ryan were perhaps hooking up, but that Sandy called the thing off when she decided to “choose” her son over a potential lover. That… makes sense, doesn’t it? I could totally see it going down like that.

Sandra Bullock is single again. After starting the new year full of promise with actor Ryan Reynolds in her adopted hometown of Austin, Texas, Sandra has made the agonizing decision to sacrifice her own happiness so she can devote herself fully and selflessly to her beloved 1-year-old son, Louis. Sandra’s rep confirmed the budding relationship between The Proposal co-stars was no more on Jan. 14, telling Life & Style Sandra and Ryan “are literally nothing except friends.”

It had seemed like a perfect match: Both endured painful splits in 2010 and reportedly found comfort in each other’s arms during romantic jaunts to Sandra’s cozy Jackson Hole, Wyo., house and a lunch date with Louis at Sandra’s sister’s bakery in Austin. But sadly, Sandra couldn’t follow her heart and let herself fall completely.

“They like each other,” says an insider to Life & Style. “While there is a spark, it’s not happening now. It can’t. They’re done.”

Instead, Sandra seems to have decided to focus all of her love and attention on Louis — who’ll always be the No. 1 man in her life.

Sounds like Sandra is still struggling with the idea of how to date as a single mother. Which I will buy. Of course, I also bought that she and Ryan were probably hooking up, however briefly, and I’ll buy that they are not hooking up currently. While I want to believe Page Six’s Christina Hendricks story with every fiber of my being, I’m kind of thinking that Page Six is pulling this Tom Cruise and Nicole Kidman story out of their ass. According to sources, at the post-Globes CAA party, Tom and Nicole totally avoided each other like they were in friggin’ high school. Ugh.

Tom Cruise and ex-wife Nicole Kidman kept a safe distance from each other as they partied at the same Golden Globes bash. Cruise and wife Katie Holmes attended the Creative Artists Agency party at the Sunset Tower Hotel following the awards. Meanwhile, Kidman, who divorced Cruise in 2001, was across the intimate room with husband Keith Urban.

A spy said, “There was no drama, but nobody saw them have a conversation, either. Tom and Nicole stayed apart all night, but they must have seen each other. Everybody was mingling, but they kept their distance.”

Security was so tight that many CAA clients weren’t allowed in — even director David O. Russell had to wait in his car after being told he wasn’t on the list. Those who got in included Robert De Niro, Jane Fonda, Christina Aguilera, Anne Hathaway, Julianne Moore, Scarlett Johansson, Halle Berry, Oliver Stone, John Legend, Demi Moore and Jake Gyllenhaal.

I doubt this just because I doubt Tom Cruise was in town for the Globes – I think he’s still filming Mission Impossible in Canada, last I heard. Considering he wasn’t nominated for anything and he didn’t present anything at the Globes, why would he fly into LA just for a CAA party? But I do believe that Nicole and Keith were at the CAA party – just the ticket after a three-hour awards ceremony. You want to kick back and schmooze and have a few drinks and not be with your three-week-old newborn baby. Look, I get why Nicole went – she was nominated, after all. But Keith just had to come with her? Why? Because his job is holding her hand in front of cameras, not bonding with their new baby that they just had to have and announce conveniently before the Oscar nominations.

UPDATE: Okay, I’ve just been told that Tom was in town and was at the CAA party. Guess this story is pretty true, and Tom and Nicole really can’t even say hello to each other. Gawd.

In other “awkward, CAA” news, Life & Style is reporting that Scarlett Johansson and Sandra Bullock ran into each other at the same CAA party. Ooh, they got a confirmation from Bullock’s rep too:

Here’s an interesting turn of events – Sandra Bullock told Al Roker in a new interview that she’s NOT rubbing her bangs on Ryan’s gerbil dong. Girl fight cancelled? Or is Sandra just playing a game, not confirming that she and Ryan Reynolds are hittin’ it? Sandy’s got a history of denying stuff that ends up being true, so who knows?

There’s only one man in Sandra Bullock’s life right now – her son, Louis. In an interview with Today’s Al Roker, Bullock made it clear that rumors of her and newly single Ryan Reynolds being an item aren’t true.

“I think there will be a collective sigh amomgst women across the united States when I say he’s not my lovah,” Bullock, 46, says on the red carpet before Sunday night’s Golden Globes. “He’s just an amazing friend for 10 years … but I don’t get his loving after dark.”

Bullock, who is currently working on Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close with Tom Hanks, added Louis is the only man in her life right now, saying “it’s all I can handle.”

And as for her 1-year-old, romance is a few years off: He is “off the market ’til he is 18,” she says.

She’s so specific about how they’re not having sex… so I tend to believe her. So where are those reports coming from? They’re just hanging out as friends…? Sure, I’ll believe that on Sandra’s side. But now I’ve got to wonder if Ryan wants more and Sandy’s all “No thanks.” Ah, peace has been restored and now we no longer have to hear stories about Scarlett calling Sandy a man-hungry tramp.

How horrible did Sandra Bullock look last night? I mean… the dress was not good, but it could have been saved if Sandra had been styled well. Sandy is almost 50 years old – it’s time to stop with the little-girl bangs trauma and the rocker-chick “I don’t give a frig” styling. Be a professional. Be classy. Unfortunately, Sandra decided to go for some radical bangs trauma… because that’s what boning Ryan Reynolds will get you.

Bad choices, bad hair, bad bangs. Speaking of boning Ryan Reynolds and having the horrible hair to show for it, Scarlett Johansson….

Totally Bride of Frankenstein. What’s worse is that ScarJo thinks this is a “high fashion” and “editorial” look. Yes, there are models in fashion magazines who will have this hair. That doesn’t mean it should be worn on a red carpet.

I hestitate to call out Helena Bonham Carter, especially over her hair, which was only one small part of HBC’s crazy-bitch styling (also included: two different colored shoes). But the hair was a spectacular mess. Just the icing on the crazy cake, really.

Michelle Williams: “Hi, I’m the second coming of Mia Farrow, aren’t I precious?” Me: “No, your 30 years old, it’s time to grow up and stop with the 10-year-old-boy haircut and the 10-year-old-girl daisy dresses.” What’s even worse? The fugly daisy dress is Valentino. WTH?

I actually like Olivia Wilde’s Marchesa dress (shock), but I thought she ruined the look with her dumb bangs trauma. Her hair wasn’t red-carpet. It wasn’t Golden Globes. It was much too informal for this event. And you know she was aiming for “I’m such a hippie, I can wear this fancy gown with simple beach hair.” And she can’t.

Did you see the back of Helen Mirren’s head? Her new haircut is HIDEOUS. It looks like she cut it herself. With a weed-wacker. It’s all choppy and cheap-looking. As for Tilda Swinton… well, she’s an alien. I mean, am I supposed to critique the hairstyles of aliens?
