Sarah Jessica Parker demanded that SATC movie poster feature only her

sjpsatc.jpg
I’ll bet the stars of the “Sex and the City” movie can’t wait for this film to open so they can move on. The last few months have been non-stop gossip about all four of them, and there are no signs of the rumors slowing down. The latest word is that Sarah Jessica Parker, fresh from being voted Maxim’s Unsexiest Woman, is making demands that the movie posters for “Sex and the City” only feature her character.

Kim Cattrell might be in for a little competition for her title of Most Demanding SATC Cast Member. Sarah Jessica Parker may not be the only star of Sex And The City, but you’ll have a hard time telling her that. According to new whispers from the Rumor Mill, SJP has irritated film bosses with demands that she be the only star featured on promotional materials for the May 30th, 2008 film Sex And The City: The Movie.

“She fought to have the movie poster feature only her,” Star Magazine writes.

“They planned to sell luxury T-shirts and shoes to coincide with the movie’s release, but Sarah demanded that the merchandise be sold only through her Bitten line. This way, the focus will still be on Sarah and she’ll profit from the sales.”

[From Pop Crunch via Gossip Rocks]

Sarah Jessica is also listed as a producer of the film, and was an executive producer of the show. I suppose if she’s taking the largest share of the business risks for the movie- which, based on the trailer I saw, looks terrible- she should reap the benefits. Even though the actresses all insist that everything was hunky dory on set, Sarah should have known that appearing solo on the movie poster would cause people to talk.

Note by Celebitchy: Sarah Jessica Parker might be taking business risks by producing the film, but she’s also cashing in big time. She’s making $10 million for playing Carrie and another $5 million for producing the film. Kim Cattrall will take home a reported $6 million for being the hold out and negotiating a larger share, but Cynthia Nixon and Kristin Davis are only said to have made $2 million each. It hardly seems fair that they’re not featured on the posters too, since it’s the ensemble cast and the friendships between the women that were the focus of the show, not just Carrie. It looks like her fellow cast members are getting screwed out of the publicity too.

A lot of people think it’s only fair that Sarah Jessica Parker is getting paid so much more than the other actresses since she’s the lead, but $10 million is 5 times the amount some of her equally-important co-stars are getting. Maybe that’s common in the industry.

Sex and The City Sequel already planned; Nursing home version to follow

jtm-029511.jpg
In case you haven’t had enough Sex and The City after all the on-set photos and perhaps-misleading plot leaks before the much-anticipated first film is even out, you can rest assured that it won’t be over after you’ve spent two hours in the theater watching it this spring. Producers are said to be so convinced that the movie will be a commercial success that they’re already planning a sequel. In fact they want to do four or five films!

Producers are so sure the movie version of the classic HBO show… is going to be a box office hit that they plan to exercise the sequel option in the contracts of stars Sarah Jessica Parker, Kirstin Davis, Cynthia Nixon and Kim Cattrall. “They are hoping it will become a franchise,” an insider tells In Touch. “They would love to do four or five Sex and the City movies. Script ideas were even in the works before the writers’ strike.

[From In Touch, print edition, December 3, 2007]

Four or five Sex and the City movies? If this is true, maybe they’ll be derailed by the writer’s strike, although I hope it reaches an amicable conclusion soon so that more worthy entertainment is not affected.

I guess this isn’t surprising, considering how many successful film ideas get run into the ground with sequels. (Where is the Finding Nemo sequel? If they can do three Shreks there can be at least one more Nemo.)

It seems like the movie took so long to make that they should put it out and see what happens before jumping into a sequel. All of the stars except Kim Cattrall are in their early 40s, with Kim 51. Can they continue to play these characters convincingly for another 5-6 years? As long as the plotlines mature along with them, I suppose it’s possible and there definitely aren’t enough older women in current films. Still, you can’t help but think that the movies are going to decline over the years, getting older and more haggard as they cling to a shopaholic youth and carefree sexuality that wasn’t that appealing in the first place.

Here are pictures from the Sex and The City set, along with the younger versions of the characters who will appear in the film, thanks to PRPhotos.

Update: thanks to commentor na for letting us know that the picture below is of a group of girls that the aging Sex and The City ladies pass on the street who remind them of themselves. They aren’t supposed to be the younger versions of the characters.

Kim Cattrall gets $6 mil for SATC movie, Davis and Nixon each get $2 mil

Kim Cattrall sure wasn’t kidding when she said that she was just doing the Sex and The City movie for the money. Not only is she being paid the hefty fee of $6 million to do the film – her salary is three times the amount that her fellow supporting actresses Cynthia Nixon and Kirsten Davis are being paid. Davis and Nixon, who were always on board for a film version of the hit HBO series and didn’t hold out for more money and perks like Cattrall did, are receiving just $2 million a piece. That hardly sounds fair, does it?

[Kim Cattrall will] get a whopping $6 million to re-create her character Samantha Jones for the film version of the hit show, while Cynthia Nixon (Miranda Hobbes) and Kristin Davis (Charlotte York) are walking away with only $2 million each, The Enquirer has learned.

“Kim has had the last laugh on her co-stars,” said a source close to the highly anticipated project.

“For years she was the odd girl-out while Cynthia and Kristin sucked up to Sarah Jessica Parker and snubbed Kim.

“But this time Kim’s calling the shots. She’s letting everyone in the world know she was the cast holdout and she demanded triple was the other girls got.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, November 26, 2007]

According to The Enquirer, Sarah Jessica Parker had plenty of incentive to reward Cattrall for driving a hard bargain. She will make nearly $10 million for playing Carrie Bradshaw and will earn another $5 million for producing the film.

What I fail to see is how Cattrall is technically more valuable to the cast than Nixon and Davis are. If someone has a more central role, like Sarah Jessica Parker, they should get more money for it, but Cattrall certainly isn’t worth three times the amount her costars are. It sounds like they were so desperate to make this already-overdue film that they just dealt with Cattrall and met her demands. Meanwhile the actresses who played fair and just wanted to do their jobs are the ones who got screwed.

This is the woman who put out two how-to sex books and deliberately went without panties (NSFW link) to pull a “Basic Instinct” crossing-legs maneuver while promoting the second last November. Maybe she won’t have to resort to such desperate measures to revive her career now that she has some cash in the bank.

Life is imitating long-gone television for Kim Cattrall. 51 year-old Cattrall has been dating 28 year-old Canadian chef Alan Wyse since 2004.

Cattrall and her co-stars are shown on the Sex and the City set on 11/7/07. Thanks to Splash News.

Kim Cattrall says she’s only doing the Sex and the City film for the money (Spoilers)

I was such a huge fan of the Sex and the City TV series, I have the entire series on DVD and was really looking forward to the movie. But with all the spoilers that have been leaked, and the dubious fashion choices being displayed in those leaks, I’m a bit over it.

I was even more over the concept when I read this comment from Kim Cattrall.

“It’s nice to step into Samantha’s skin again, but I’m only doing the film for the money,” says the 52-year-old actress. “Samantha is very dear to me and I have such a wonderful time playing her, but I can’t say more for the experience that wanting financial security.”

Cattrall’s fighting with co-star Sarah Jessica Parker may also have something to do with her reluctance to do the movie. “When I made a stand about not being in the movie because I thought the money was terrible, there was a backlash from some of my costars. The role is very much a double-edged sword,” she added.

TransWorldNews

I guess what she is trying to say here is that maybe at her age, 51, that she needs some financial security. There aren’t many roles out there for women of that age, particularly ones who haven’t got a huge career. I’m struggling to think of what she’s done since Sex and the City was on air. She did write a couple of books about sex, trading off of her on-screen character, but she’s not really done anything else.

In other Sex and the City movie news, the New York City Mayor Michael Bloomberg will be appearing in the film as himself, following in the footsteps of former mayor Ed Koch who also appeared in the series. No details have been given about the current Mayor’s role, but he will be filming in Bryant Park on Tuesday evening, in midtown Manhattan.

Note by Celebitchy: Kim Cattrall is shown filming The Sex and The City movie on 10/2/07 and 9/21/07, thanks to PRPhotos. She has three films to her credit since 2005, according to IMDB. I know I saw her in that Ice Princess movie with Michelle Trachtenberg, Joan Cusack and Hayden Panettiere.

Drama on Sex and The City Sex (maybe big spoilers)

From these pictures that came out on the Sex and The City movie set, It looks like Carrie and Big get into a huge fight at their wedding. Carrie is being comforted by Charlotte and Miranda outside of the church, while Big looks on angrily. In some pictures Charlotte is glaring at Big, and then it looks like Miranda is holding Carrie back from him as they get in an argument. Carrie gets out of the limo and runs down the street in her questionable wedding attire.

There has been some speculation that the whole wedding is a dream sequence, but I bet it’s real and the drama seen here is the main conflict in the film.

If they keep filming out in the open in NY City there were be little left that’s unknown about this movie. It will probably be a hit, but it seems like it’s going to come out too late to capitalize on its success. We’ll have to see how it does in theaters.

Look at Kristin Davis’ face. Can’t she learn to emote properly instead of looking like a grumpy cartoon character? At least Sarah Jessica Parker can act.

Thanks to PRPhotos for these pictures, taken on 10/12/07.

Sex and The City latest on-set pics (spoilers)

I know yesterday I said that I wouldn’t watch the Sex and the City movie in the theater and I stand by that. I would watch it half for the shockingly bad couture anyway, and we’re getting plenty of that from the paparazzi pictures.

Splash News calls Sarah Jessica Parker a “corpse bride,” while describing these pictures and although I wouldn’t be that harsh I have to say the pointy details over the bustline do manage to emphasize her clavicles and make her look old. Add that giant blue feather on the side of her veil and she’s positively witchy.

There weren’t any pictures of Big that I could find, and I looked through photos from three different agencies. It’s possible they were just filming the outside scenes and he didn’t need to be there, or maybe Carrie is marrying someone else. While we think they’re giving away the plot by filming out in the open in NY, maybe they’re deliberately making some things unclear.

Sex and the City spoilers (don’t read if you want to be surprised)

Some plot details have already been revealed for the new Sex and The City movie, and I’ll rehash them here just for people like me who can’t resist spoilers, but will still see the films and TV shows if they’re worthwhile. This is also for people who don’t care because they aren’t going to see the film anyway.

We’ve heard so far that Charlotte has a baby, Miranda has another baby, and that Big and Carrie are doing well. Now Page Six is reporting that there’s a wedding in the works, and I bet it will be at the end of the film, although I’d like to see it happen sometime at the beginning so we can see that things don’t turn out so happily ever after. Despite his long-standing commitment problems, Big is going to marry Carrie. Do you think that will end well?

Mr. Big and Carrie definitely tie the knot – and it’s no small-time affair. Cast and crew are shooting today from early morning until 9 p.m. at St. Patrick’s Cathedral, where the wedding takes place. Carrie and her gal pals will be wearing jewels borrowed from H. Stern. Sarah Jessica Parker even gets a congrats written into the script: “Mazel Tov! I read it in Page Six,” reports a woman who played a well-wisher during filming yesterday.

[From Page Six]

I have no urge to see this movie in the theater, although I might catch it when it comes on DVD. They should have been more careful to keep it under wraps because I’ve seen so many pictures and have heard so much about it that I really won’t care once it’s out. As it is, I’ve already reached Sex and the City saturation, am sick of these characters and think that the time to make this film was several years ago after the series wrapped.

Sarah Jessica Parker is shown in the header image with actor Willie Garson filming a scene for the new Sex and the City The Movie in NYC. According to photo agency Splash News “The two run into an old friend named Bitsy who was a socialite in the series.”

I really reported on this because I wanted to include an artist’s rendition of a potential Sex and The City plot: Mr. Big gets a sex change and has Miranda’s baby. Thanks to Scottish artist Derek for sending in the picture below, which he calls “Sex Change and the City.” He says that he won’t see the film unless they do something outrageous.

Sex And The City Movie Filming (spoiler alert)

Sex and the City was – and still is – one of my favourite guilty pleasures on television. Even if by the time it screened in Australia the fashions were very last season. Doing my nails in front of Grey’s Anatomy just isn’t the same. So I’m pretty excited about the movie, and as hard as I tried to resist temptation, I read the spoilers.

Sporting a large baby bump and laden with shopping bags, Kristin Davis’s character and Mr Big, played by Chris Noth, get into a heated argument outside a restaurant. An outraged Charlotte takes to him with her shopping bags.

(Has Big been busted dining with a lady other than Carrie?)

Charlotte’s waters break during the slinging match and — sparing no thought for what a woman’s waters will do to luxury car upholstery — Mr Big ushers Charlotte into his car for the trip to the hospital.

In other plot news, Sarah Jessica Parker’s (SJP) character Carrie goes flat hunting with Mr Big after the pair agree to move in together.

ninemsn.com.au

I’m not sure how careful the movie is going to pick up where the series left off – and will it all be tied into a nice little bundle at the end? I sort of liked the ending, as it wasn’t a fairytale, like they were real people who would keep on living.

For those of you who can’t remember the season finale, Carrie and Big were reunited in Paris after she split with sexy Russian Aleksander Petrovsky. Big’s real name was revealed to be John.

Miranda was married to Steve and living in Brooklyn with his mother and their baby.

Charlotte married Harry and they were adopting a baby from China.

And Samantha found true love with Smith Jerrod, after beating breast cancer.

The movie has already begun filming, but Kim Cattrall’s feud with Sarah Jessica Parker may be back on again, after she stormed out of a party to celebrate the start of filming the movie. Hopefully they’ll catch some of their fights on film for the DVD extras.

Thanks to Splash News for the header image of Big and Carrie kissing, which was taken on set.

Kim Cattrall negotiatied “Sex and the City” deal to be just as good as SJPs

sexcity.jpg
Playing hard to get for once worked for Samantha. Kim Cattrall, long-rumored to be the sole holdout on the upcoming “Sex and the City” movie, signed up for the film now confirmed to be in the works only after her demands were met.

She’s now getting equal pay and equal screen time with lead star Sarah Jessica Parker. She’ll also get the same treatment on set:

After repeatedly refusing to sign on the dotted line since the TV series ended in 2004, Cattrall stubbornly held out and won what seemed like her impossible dream when producers finally caved and gave her 1) equal salary, 2) equal billing and 3) the same onscreen time as star Sarah Jessica Parker! Kick-ass Kim even negotiated an “equal perks” rider – insisting on a top-of-the-line dressing trailer identical to Sarah Jessica’s, plus an exclusive dream team of hair and makeup artists!

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, Mike Walker's column, July 30, 2007]

It has also been reported that Cattrall even worked out a deal with HBO for a new series!

This was a decent show, but when it finally comes out is it going to do well at the box office? According to IMDB it doesn’t start filming until the fall of this year so it will be some time before it finally comes out.

Will any of you guys go see it? I enjoyed the show occassionally, and could relate to it when I was single and lived near NY. To me it got kind of old though, and at this point I don’t really care what happens to these characters. I don’t know if this show has the kind of cult following needed to give it a decent draw in theaters four or five years after it wrapped, but maybe that’s just because it didn’t resonate with me.

Good for Cattrall for getting equal pay and perks with Parker, though. I hope that Kristin Davis and Cynthia Nixon aren’t too far behind, because without either of them it wouldn’t be the same, either. Woman can probably identify more with their characters’ normalcy than either sexaholic Samantha or shopaholic Carrie.
