I thought Pippa Middleton was on the cover of People last week, but my aunt lent me her newsstand copy of the latest People and it had Shania Twain on it in with the title Finding Love After Betrayal. As we’ve heard before from Shania, she really blames the other woman for her husband cheating, when she should have just as much ire, if not more so, for the ass whose bullsh*t she dealt with for 15 years. The thing is, the other woman was Shania’s best friend, her only friend in Switzerland, where she felt lonely and isolated in her multi million dollar estate.

People’s interview with Shania confirms In Touch’s story that Shania has barred the other woman from seeing her son, despite the fact that she sees the other woman’s daughter all the time. (Since she married her ex husband’s mistress’ estranged husband.) People also has the detail that Shania’s new husband was the guy who broke it to her that their spouses were cheating on them. This is some Shakespearean shizz. I love what Shania writes about the mistress. It’s like she’s spitting it out with a sneer and giving her the evil eye at the same time.

She took a break [from her career] in 2004 and settled with Lange and their son Eja, now 9, in Switzerland – she she barely knew a soul – and “the isolation started to spiral,” she says. “I wasn’t expressing myself anymore.”

At the same time, she and Lange were growing apart. “It’s very hard to be honest with yourself when something’s just not working,” says Twain, who devoured self help books. “Mutt had already made up his mind on what was going to be done, but I was in the dark.”

In March 2008 Lange told her he wanted a divorce. The next day Theibaud broke the crushing news that he believed his wife, Marie-Anne – her best friend, to whom she had confided her marital problems – was having an affair with Lange… The double betrayal sent her into a tailspin…

[Twain writes] “Fred explained that his wife had spent some time with my husband in luxury spas in the area over the last months. Of course, I demanded proof, and outside of what he’d witnessed personally, he had the classic evidence in the form of phone bills, hotel information and receipts, and the memory of a garter belt and lingerie he saw packed in her luggage. She was meant to be going away for time ‘alone.’”

Twain reserves most of her ire for Marie-Anne; even now, she utters that name only once in the course of an interview. “I hated her,” she writes in the book. “I was disgusted that another woman’s lust for a lifestyle upgrade was worth the devastation of my family…”

In truth, the one time she did encounter the other woman, not long after the split, “I had a total panic attack,” she says. “I just told her that she was a bad person – that’s all I could get out! When I left her, I thought, ‘You’re such a wimp, you coward!’ That was my big moment, and I blew it!”

Today Twain has no interaction with Marie-Anne and won’t allow her to have any contact with Eja either. “I just have no desire,” she says. “In fact my desire is to avoid her!”

Ok, I get it now. I get that it was her best friend, that the woman lied to her when she confided in her that she was worried about her husband acting strange, and that the friend was committing the ultimate act of betrayal behind her back. So, though, was her husband if not more so. If this stupid wench wasn’t around he would have found another one to cheat on Shania with, he was just looking for an excuse. Same goes for this Marie-Anne person and her relationship.

At first glance this story sounds completely reasonable, considering that Shania Twain’s ex husband was seeing her best friend and assistant behind her back when they were still together. Then you realize that Shania married the mistresses’ ex husband and is currently spending time with that woman’s daughter (it’s complicated, but if you think of it like a partner swap it makes sense). In that context she seems like she’s still got an ax to grind when she should maybe let it go and let her son see his dad with his new partner, presuming they’re still together. She got wronged, but she’s moved and it’s fine for her to see the other woman’s kid, but not the other way around. It’s been three years now. Here’s the story, and hopefully it makes more sense than I’m explaining:

Even though Shania, 45, allows her son, Eja, 9, to spend time with [her ex] Mutt, she’s made it clear that Marie-Anne [the mistress] can’t go anywhere near him. Meanwhile, Shania treats Frederic, 41, [Shania's new husband] and Marie-Anne’s 8 year-old daughter, Johanna, as part of the family. While the two kids are close, they can only spend time together when they are with Shania and Frederic. “Shania laid down the law with Mutt,” a source close to the family tells In Touch about keeping Marie-Anne away.

And who could blame her? Once her closest confidante, “Marie-Anne used all those private conversations they had just to get closer to Mutt,” the source says. “Shania will never forgive her, and she doesn’t want her around Eja.”

But despite Shania’s no-stepmom rules, Johanna often visits Shania and Frederic’s home in Canada and even tags along on family trips. “Shania told Frederic she thinks of Johanna as her own daughter,” says the source.

Shania said on Oprah that the other woman was her best friend. When she realized that her husband was acting weird (because he was boning the best friend, natch) Shania asked Marie-Anne if she saw a change in Mutt, and Marie-Anne was all “no, he’s the same” or whatever. So I get that she doesn’t want to see her, and that she doesn’t want her kid around that wench. However, this makes me realize how kind of vengeful Shania’s new romance seems. I like her and find her to be a genuine person who feels things deeply. Taken in this context though (she sees the other woman’s kid as her own daughter and is now sleeping with that woman’s husband) it just all seems kind of creepy, like Shania had an agenda and didn’t just fall in love when her heart was broken.

This is the other woman. No sh*t.

Some publisher made the decision to release Shania Twain’s memoir yesterday, the same day as Jesse James’ memoir. I realize that they don’t have the same target audience, but I hate that publicity for Shania’s memoir could be overshadowed by Jesse’s drama. (I got Jesse James’ memoir on iBooks and we have a story coming up with quotes from it in just a moment.)

Parade has some advance quotes from Shania’s memoir, From This Moment On. She discusses how she dealt with the shock and pain when she found out her husband of 12 years, Mutt Lange, was cheating on her with a good friend of the family. Shania ended up hooking up with her husband’s mistresses’ estranged husband (it makes sense if you think of it like a partner swap) and it was a trade up for the both of them. She just remarried in January and seems blissfully happy but still wounded and affected by what she went through. She’s also back in the spotlight now after a long career hiatus. In these excerpts she’s almost poetic when she describes going through that ordeal and falling in love again.

In her revealing new memoir, From This Moment On, the 45-year-old star takes readers through the events that have made her who she is. In the excerpts below, Twain opens up about the impact of her mother and stepfather’s abusive marriage and the devastation of her husband, rock producer Robert John “Mutt” Lange’s affair.

On the devastating discovery, in March 2008, that her husband of 14 years was having an affair with her friend and confidante, Marie-Anne.
Twain describes it as “the most shocking and painful truth of my life since the death of my parents twenty years earlier….For the first week after finding out about the affair, I was ready to die–to go to bed forever and never wake up. Or to hurt someone. I was ready to do something desperate, but in reality, there was nothing to do but to suffer through it. Fortunately, when you’re a mom, the responsibility of caring for your child can keep you going.

“Denial can have multiple layers, and rationalizing is common when you’re trying to absorb something you just don’t want to believe. I thought: Okay, so maybe they made a mistake. My husband and my friend will come to their senses and realize that. I was ready to forgive, and forget, make things right , move on, and get on with our lives. Not like nothing had happened, but like something had happened that I thought was fixable. But his was not to be.

“Despite everything, I still loved my husband. And I still loved my friend. I put myself in their shoes with the understanding that accidents happen, we’re all human, and we all make mistakes….Eventually, I came to the point of accepting the end of my marriage.”

How she came to fall in love with Frederic Thiebaud, the ex-husband of the friend who betrayed her.
“I describe what happened to Fred and me this way: we were two people who had been jettisoned from our lives as if we’d been shoved off the edge of a high cliff. Thankfully, we managed to grab onto each other on the way down in midair, and break each other’s fall.

“I spent months shutting myself off from any thoughts of a relationship, but Fred loved me and was brave enough to come out and say it, even though I had made it clear that the thought of ever being in love again scared me out of my wits….It’s true I swore I would never allow myself to love again, but Fred is impossible not to love.

“Three years after our hearts were broken, together, I feel more love now than any other emotion I’ve felt since that time. I consider myself the luckiest woman on the planet that I have Fred to share the rest of my life with.”

Twain also describes the intense domestic violence and spousal abuse she witnessed as a child. In the book, she recalls one particular fight between her stepfather and mother.
“My mother was a featherweight and so easy to push around. Jerry had her on the bathroom floor by the toilet, and, grabbing her hair, he slammed her head against the side of the basin, knocking her out cold. I could see Jerry repeatedly plunge my mother’s head into the toilet bowl, then pull it out again. I remember wondering, ‘Why is he trying to drown her when she’s already dead?’ I wanted to scream, ‘Stop, you already killed her!’ I wanted to stop him, but I was too afraid…The enormity of that helplessness transferred to me, and I felt as limp as she was.”

Despite the violence, Twain says she felt “sorry” for her parents, and while she hated the violence, she “didn’t hate them.”
“The guilt and shame they clearly felt after each incident, I sensed, weighed a ton; knowing us kids were watching must have been awful. I felt sorry for their shame and didn’t have the heart to hold it against them even at that very young age. Each time, I just wanted it to be over, behind us and forgotten.”

Twain rose to fame in the early 1990s with her debut album. She describes the difficulty in dealing with her newfound celebrity, loss of privacy, and pressure to live up to the public’s expectations.
“I had moments of sheer desperation over these years, and although I never contemplated suicide, I was looking for an escape. I wished for an illness that might force me in the hospital so I could rest, or for the album suddenly to lose steam to it would be time to get off the road and pass my hours with my guitar just writing in peace with a few friends around a fire.”

Shania was on Oprah yesterday and I read through the recap on Oprah’s site. You can also read highlights of her interview on People and Popeater. It sounds like she still sort-of blames the other woman, but that’s understandable because her then-husband’s mistress was her best friend and assistant. She told Oprah that when she asked the other woman if her husband was acting strange, she was all “I think he’s fine.” She hasn’t seen the mistress since, but she wrote her a letter asking her to leave her family alone that she shares in her book. Shania explained that we all have very low moments in our lives, and that was hers.

Shania strikes me as such a feeling person and someone who is fragile but ready to be back in the public eye. I admire her
and think she handled this all so well. To Oprah, Shania revealed that she suffers from a medical condition called dysphonia that squeezes her vocal chords, but says she hopes that she’ll be able to sing again soon. She has so many fans that feel the same.

That was fast! Shania Twain announced her engagement to her ex-husband’s mistress’s ex-husband just a few weeks ago, and now they’re married. Shania and Frédéric Thiébaud got hitched on Saturday in Puerto Pico, and it looks like only TMZ got the photos (here) and a short video (here). Both the bride and the groom wore white. According to People Magazine, Shania and Frederic invited 40 family members and friends to the beach ceremony:

Shania Twain has gotten hitched! The country superstar and Frédéric Thiébaud got married in Puerto Rico on New Year’s Day, her rep tells PEOPLE exclusively.

“They were married at sunset in Rincon, Puerto Rico, in front of 40 of their closest family and friends,” says the rep.

The couple, who confirmed their engagement last month, became romantically involved in 2009, finding solace with each other after their spouses allegedly had an affair, breaking up both marriages.

In a letter to fans she posted on her Web site in December, Twain wrote, “In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people – friends, family and beloved fans, [whose] support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes.”

“Talking about love,” she continued, “I am excited to share some personal news with you; I’m in love! Frédéric Nicolas Thiébaud has been a true gift to me as a compassionate, understanding friend and over time, an amazing love has blossomed from this precious friendship.”

I wish Shania and Frederic all the happiness in the world, I really do. If the official story is anywhere close to the truth – that Shania’s ex-husband Mutt Lange was boning his secretary, and Mutt left Shania for the chick, while Shania consoled herself in the arms of the chick’s ex-husband, who is now Shania’s current husband, while Mutt is currently engaged to his jumpoff… well, God bless. However, I’m starting to wonder – Crazy Days and Nights has done a series of pieces about how sketchy this whole thing is, and they even wonder aloud if it was Shania who had the instigating affair.

This week’s National Enquirer reports that Shania Twain’s ex husband, “Mutt” Lange, is engaged to the woman he cheated on Shania with. Shania is of course engaged to the ex husband of her ex husband’s mistress, having fallen in love with the family friend when they faced the shared experience of their spouses stepping out on them. Now they’re all going to get married in two separate ceremonies this summer, according to the Enquirer. This sounds too weird to be true, but so does this entire story and we’ve seen it happening for a while now. One detail I’d yet to hear about this is that Shania’s fiance and his ex wife have one child, a nine year-old daughter. Shania and Mutt also have one child, a nine year-old son. Please let these kids stay far away from each other when they come of age. Here’s part of the Enquirer’s story.

“It sounds crazy, but all four Shania, Frederic, Mutt and Marie-Anne – have managed to remain friends,” said a source.

“So it isn’t as outlandish as it seems for both couples to marry so close together…

“Both [of their] kids will attend both summer weddings, which will take place near their homes in Switzerland,” revealed the source.

“Everyone has remained on friendly terms for the children’s sake. Surprisingly, the whole thing has worked out.”

Swiss-born Frederic, 40, recently proposed to Canadian native Shania with a three-carat, emerald-cut diamond ring that he helped design, and sources say he’s putting together an elaborate wedding.

“It’s going to be ultra romantic will all the bells and whistles – something Shania will never forget,” disclosed the source.

“Mutt and Marie-Anne’s wedding will be much more subdued. He’s always been very reclusive.”

Star Magazine has a related story this week that Shania is writing a tell all book which will include the details about how she figured out Mutt was cheating on her. They quote a source who claims “Shania found receipts for things that Mutt never gave her, like lingerie and perfume… Mutt and Marie-Anne would give each other lingering looks. It was so obvious, Shania finally confronted Marie-Anne – and she didn’t deny it!”

The book is due out this spring, and I bet that Shania stays classy, doesn’t trash her ex and just focuses on how she felt after the betrayal. His actions are damning enough on their own. Shania has found love again and is probably grateful in retrospect that everything happened the way it did. She obviously traded up.

Shania Twain has issued a letter on her website expressing her joy at becoming engaged to her ex husband’s mistress’ ex husband, as Kaiser so aptly put it. Some of you speculated in the comments that Shania potentially cheated on her husband first by hooking up with her now-fiance, who was a family friend. I followed this story closely when it came out, and am convinced that Shania’s husband, “Mutt” Lange, cheated on her with his secretary/estate manager, after which Shania and the secretary’s husband found solace in each other. In fact the National Enquirer tracked Lange down in Switzerland two years ago to get a comment on his wife’s new romance with his girlfriend’s ex husband, and he seemed genuinely surprised that those two had hooked up. (He also kind of gave Shania his blessing, the bastard.) Anyway, here’s what Shania wrote. It’s flowery and over the top, but she really seems like she’s an emotional person like that. I remember how she cried on American Idol when Big Mike sang “It Only Hurts When I’m Breathing.”

I’ve spent much time over the course of this past year, learning about others who have suffered loss in their lives and taken inspiration from how they’ve managed to overcome it. I’m learning that grief and the suffering of loss, challenges me to be more sensitive and understanding of other’s and also more accepting of my own struggles. The support of others has helped me to move forward less fearful of change, allowing me to embrace the beauty of life today and remain more open to whatever it brings tomorrow.

The people who make my life the most joyful are the ones I am able to lean on because of my own humanness. In the last two and a half years of adjusting to life after separation and divorce, I needed to lean on others more often than I was accustomed to. These people have been gifts, and I am fortunate to have so many of these beautiful people – friends, family and beloved fans, who’s support I cherish more deeply with each day that passes. So, do you think that Shania and this Fred guy just started hanging out as a big F U to their exes? There were quite a few staged paparazzi pics of them at the time that suggested that they were getting a huge kick out of it.

Also, as Kaiser reported Shania’s engagement is on the cover of the new US Weekly this week. I tend to think that Shania announced it to coincide with her new reality show, which premieres on the Oprah Network in January. I also think she’s pretty triumphant after all she went through, and I don’t blame her. It seemed clear to me that she gave People Magazine the details of her husband’s infidelity back in 2008 and now she’s all “I’m engaged, bitches.” I love how she stayed out of the spotlight for so long and then kind of edged back at a difficult and critical time in her life. She’s a survivor.

Back in 2008, Shania Twain was devastated to find out that her husband Matt Lange had been screwing around on her with his secretary, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. Frederic and Shania have been together since 2008, and now Shania’s rep confirms to Us Weekly (for this week’s Us Weekly cover story) that Shania and Frederic are now engaged! Good for them.

Looks like they made it! Country superstar Shania Twain is engaged to Frederic Thiebaud, her rep confirms exclusively in the new issue of Us Weekly, out Tuesday. Twain, 45, stepped out with Thiebaud, 40, for a PDA-packed lunch at Serafina’s Fabulous Grill in NYC on Thursday with an enormous engagement ring.

“I’ve never seen Shania so happy,” a pal tells Us of the singer. Swiss-born Thiebaud, a Nestle business executive, popped the question about two months ago in Switzerland.

The couple’s road to matrimony was an exceptionally complicated one. Thiebaud is the ex-husband of Twain’s former best friend Marie-Anne Thiebaud — the woman Robert “Mutt” Lange, Twain’s husband of 14 years, abruptly left her for in May 2008. (Both Lange and Marie-Anne denied the affair.)

Twain and Frederic reached out to one another in the wake of the stunning double betrayal, and were spotted vacationing together in Canada, New York City and Florida.

Finally, in August 2009, Twain — who has a 9-year-old son, Eja, with Lange — came clean about their new romance.

Writing on her official website, she called Frederic “a dear friend and true gentleman…We leaned on one another through the ups and downs, taking turns holding each other up. We’ve become stronger and closer through it all.”

Adds the Twain pal: “She has ended up with the love of her life.”

I kind of like the story of how Shania Twain recovered after her husband of 14 years cheated on her with a married woman she considered a close family friend. It must have been very painful and difficult for Shania, but she had sweet revenge by revealing details of her husband’s affair to People Magazine and then hooking up with his mistress’ husband – a very hunky dark-haired Swiss guy. Shania, 43, and her new lover Frederic Thiébaud, 39, were spotted out on several outings in December that seemed a little too well photographed for paparazzi photos, suggesting they were staged. And who could blame Shania for wanting to let it be known that she’d moved on?

There didn’t seem to be any hard feelings between Frederic and Shania’s ex, Mutt Lange, who was quoted back in December as saying he had no idea Shania and Frederic were dating but that “I wouldn’t mind if it was the case they were dating, not at all.” Shania, Mutt, Frederic and his wife were all friends with a business relationship back when Mutt started the affair. Mutt’s mistress, Frederic’s wife, worked as the manager on Shania and Mutt’s massive estate in Switzerland.

It’s now over eight months later and Shania and Frederic are still together. The pair was spotted on a vacation at Shania’s cabin in her native Canada along with friends and her eight year-old son. I wonder if their cheating spouses are still a couple too. Both Shania and Frederic were wearing rings on that important left ring finger, but her rep denies that they’re engaged or married:

On the heels of news she’ll be a guest judge on American Idol later this month, Shania Twain was spotted kicking back in Canada with family and friends, including Frédéric Thiébaud, who comforted the singer after the alleged affair between his wife and her husband ended the singer’s marriage last May.

Despite the rings both appear to wear in some photos, “They are not engaged and they are not married,” says Twain’s rep.

Photos show the group relaxing by Twain’s lakefront cottage and Thiébaud, 39, jet skiing, horsing around with the kids – including her son Eja, 8, and his young daughter Johanna – and sharing some tender moments with Twain.

“She loves being back in Canada. That cottage is probably her favorite place in the world,” says a source close to the singer.

The next few weeks promise to be busy ones for Twain. She’ll guest judge on Idol’s Chicago auditions, and she’ll turn 44 on Aug. 28.

Included in the celebration plans: a “gift of thanks” to fans that Twain will post on her Web site, which will include a video travelogue documenting her life since her split with producer Robert “Mutt” Lange after his reported affair with her friend, Marie-Anne Thiébaud, a longtime manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland.

A source close to Twain says she’ll reference her relationship with Thiébaud in a personal letter that will accompany the video.

At first it seemed like Shania was flaunting her relationship with Frederick after the news of her divorce and it came across like a kind of revenge romance. It’s nice to see that it worked out for her, and that she’s found something lasting. I wonder what we’ll hear about her relationship once she’s ready to reveal more. Shania’s new album, her first in five years, is due out either late this year or early in 2010. It seems like she’s trying to prepare for her comeback by getting everything in her personal life in order, and it really looks like she’s happy now after so much heartache.

People were kind of shocked that singer Shania Twain, 43, was seen at the airport earlier this month with the husband of the mistress who is said to have broken up her marriage of 15 years. Shania and her husband Mutt Lange lived a quiet life in a compound in Switzerland, where Mutt is said to have cheated on Shania with his married estate manager. Shania and her husband were good friends with the other woman and her family, and Shania trusted the woman and felt understandably betrayed by both parties.

Shania may have set up photo opportunities with new boyfriend
It looks like Shania is finding solace in the arms of the hot husband of her ex’s new girlfriend. Both In Touch and The National Enquirer have photos of the pair out together in Key West, Florida, where they’re seen having lunch, laughing as they take a stroll and even parachuting together. There aren’t many paparazzi in Key West and considering the quality and variety of the photos of Shania out with her new man, I would say it’s safe to assume she’s more than happy to share her new relationship with the world and of course her cheating ex.

The National Enquirer confronted Shania’s estranged husband with the news that she’s now with Swiss businessman Frederic Theibaud, the husband of his mistress, Marie-Anne Thiebaud. He said it was the first he’s heard of it, but he gives them his blessing:

When we broke the news to Mutt that Shania was dating his love rival, he seemed to give the extraordinary “wife swapping” arrangement a green light!

“I had no idea at all! Seriously, I am out of the loop and I just didn’t know,” Mutt told The Enquirer on December 8 – four days after Shania and Frederic, 38, were first photographed together.

When asked if he was “upset” Shania was stepping out with Frederic, Mutt replied: “Not at all. He’s a great guy. I have no idea that is even the case. They are very good friends anyway…

“I wouldn’t mind if it was the case they were dating, not at all.”

Mutt went on to backtrack a little and deny he’s in a relationship with Marie-Anne, saying “The whole story was just a story as we are just friend in the same way Shania and Fred are.” I bet they are.

Good for Shania for moving on and rubbing it in her ex’s face. I hope her new boyfriend is decent to her. If they’re just playing an elaborate hoax on the media and their cheating spouses I wouldn’t be surprised if it ends up turning into something more.

Shania Twain joined some friends in manhattan for Christmas shopping, bringing a few pals from Nashville with her. Most notably Frederic Thiébaud, the ex-husband of Shania’s former best friend Marie-Anne, who sources say broke up her marriage to Robert “Mutt” Lange.

Twain and Thiébaud were photographed arriving from Switzerland at JFK airport together.

Back in May, Twain, 43, split from her producer husband Lange, 60.

Though Lange denied having an affair to People, sources close to the situation told People that he was involved with Marie-Anne Thiébaud, a close friend and manager of the couple’s chateau in Switzerland. The two couples had socialized together for years.

Twain – who has been staying strong after the split – came to New York City to “hang and shop,” says a source close to her. Among her group of pals is Thiébaud, whom the singer has considered a friend since the days when their families were close.

Adds the source: “She loves NYC during the holidays.”

Maybe they’re both just enjoying being seen out and about with hotter, younger partners than their former cheating spouses. People’s last article with ‘insider’ information about the divorce seemed to be leaked straight from Shania, so maybe she’s just adding insult to injury. Sure, it’s a little petty, but who doesn’t sometimes like to rub in an ex’s face that you’ve moved on and up?
