Susan Boyle has some fierce young competition

Brittan has got a crazy amount of people with unexpected talent. That’s the only way I can explain the phenomenon of both Susan Boyle and now young Hollie Steel. Boyle has gotten a ton of attention over the last few weeks since she shocked the world with her amazing voice during “Brittan’s Got Talent” auditions. Without having seen anyone else perform, I still felt safe in assuming Susan would win the competition. Not just because of her insane talent, but because she’s become quite the worldwide phenomenon.

Now 10-year-old Hollie Steel has thrown her log into the fire with a sensational performance of “I Could Have Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady.

After fans everywhere fell in love with Susan Boyle on Britain’s Got Talent, whoever would have thought a teeny 10-year-old in a tutu could give her a run for her money?

Hollie Steel recently wowed judges on the talent competition. After flitting about stage briefly, she opened her mouth and shocked Simon Cowell and the others with her rendition of “I Could’ve Danced All Night” from My Fair Lady.

And now she’s weiging in on her competition telling Extra of Susan, “I like her new look, but I think it looked better before. My advice to Susan would be, ‘Don’t change your look [more] because if you change your look you won’t be who you are…’”

And oh, also? May the best woman/girl win!

“My message to Susan is, ‘Good luck and I hope I can beat you.’ ”

[From OK!]

I know people will be impressed with Hollie’s performance, and it is very good. I didn’t think it was as spectacular as Susan’s – probably because it wasn’t as shocking. Yes, a strong, surprisingly mature voice came out of a very little person. But she sort of reminded me of every overly-trained theater kid. She’s certainly very talented, but after watching her little dance I could sense the perfectionist routine that was coming.Which was awesome, just expected. I’m still pulling for Susan. I know she’s gone all fancy Hollywood according to some, but I still see her as the underdog, and it’s hard not to root for her.

Susan Boyle now has dyed hair to go along with her new eyebrows

30170pcn_boyle02-682x10241

Susan Boyle has gone Hollywood, and there’s no saving her now. In the last 48 hours she’s had her boobs raised 3 inches, lost 45 pounds thanks to liposuction, had Ken Paves hair extensions put in (and not the fake hair ones; the good stuff), and got 2 nose jobs – I don’t know how. While that’s all obviously utterly impossible, you’d think that’s what Susan’s done, judging by the way the British press is treating her. They’re making her out to be some vampy harlot who’s turned into a glamour queen overnight. When in fact Susan got a haircut and plucked her eyebrows. What a hussy.

In a 90-minute makeover in a salon near her home in Blackburn, West Lothian, Boyle had her frizzled grey hair dyed and styled to wavy auburn. She also had eyebrows plucked and had new additions to her wardrobe, such as a print dress and leather jacket. Salon management said: “The TV folk might not like what she’s done with herself. She looks really nice – nothing like the image that’s had the whole world talking about her.”

British tabloids have gone into a frenzy over the makeover, with front-page splashes suggesting her smoother face could be the result of Botox injections. But some fans were concerned the makeover could change the “Hairy Angel” into another bland reality TV beauty.

The Sun reported that the talent show’s producers were concerned about her smoothed-over appearance. Judge Amanda Holden said: “It wouldn’t be right to dye her hair and suddenly make Susan all glam. People have fallen in love with the real Susan. We don’t want to change what they fell in love with.”

Holden wanted to protect Boyle from further superficial changes, saying she did not want her to experience the overhaul past winner Paul Potts had.

[From the New Zealand Herald; Quotes from The Sun]

Jeeze, I wonder why a woman dubbed the “Hairy Angel” on national TV would want to go to a salon and spruce up her look? Clearly Susan Boyle was just waiting for the first excuse she got to flit about in revealing clothes and smooth hair. You know what the nuns say…

(I don’t remember what the nuns say, but I’m sure it’s uptight and condemns vanity).

Not surprisingly, in Los Angeles they’re all over Susan’s new look.

“Britain’s Got Talent” singing sensation Susan Boyle appears on the cover of the British tabloid The Sun with a startling new look. Gone is her matronly gray frizzy hair and those bushy brows, frumpy frock and old lady pearls.

Now she has freshly dyed and styled reddish brown locks and newly shaped eyebrows. She definitely does look hipper and younger. And we like the black leather jacket, khaki pants and Burberry muffler. Not what we would have expected to see her wearing AT ALL.

But let’s hope she stops here and doesn’t head for the tanning booth or the gym. Or worse, to the dermatologist for some Botox and filler.

Toni Jones, assistant fashion editor of The Sun, praised Boyle for getting a 35-pound ($51) haircut and color locally at Miss Toner salon in Whitburn, near Blackburn, West Lothian, instead of going to a swanky shop in London.

[From the L.A. Times]

I think Susan looks wonderful. I understand the point about not wanting her to turn into everyone else. Because we’ve got plenty of those. I mean this in the kindest way, but Susan stands out for the contrast between her outward appearance and her inner beauty – both her talent and her charming personality. That said, she didn’t get her boobs done, I doubt she had Botox, and… a patterned dress, really? We’re going to critique her for getting too posh because of a patterned dress? Something tells me it’s not Pucci. I think it’s safe to say she’s still Susan and hasn’t gotten all full of herself. She’s found cause to make a few minor improvements, and if it makes her happy more power to her. And if she never wants to pluck her eyebrows or cut her hair again, so be it.

Susan Boyle says she was joking about never being kissed

30279PCN_Boyle

I know some people are suffering from Susan Boyle fatigue, but I have to admit I’m still a fan. I’m always a champion of the underdog, and I find her plucky spirit and perseverance to be very inspiring. During her “Brittan’s Got Talent” audition, Boyle said she’s, “never been married, never been kissed. Ooh shame!” Now she admits it was just a joke, noting that she has a “wicked” sense of humor.

Britain’s Got Talent star Susan Boyle has captured the hearts of millions, but did she really go 48 years without a kiss? She’s coming clean only to “Extra’s” Terri Seymour, admitting that she fibbed the truth about her romantic past. “It was meant as a joke…I’ve got a wicked sense of humor, you know!” she exclaimed.

The Scottish songbird has been making headlines since she amazed the world with her extraordinary voice, but what rumor has surprised her the most? Boyle tells Seymour, “The one where I’m willing to take my clothes off for a million dollars…Really crazy!”

Although passing on THAT offer, she reveals others saying, “The most exciting offer so far has been a trip to Hollywood to make a film…There is talk about it…It’s only rumors right now.” Boyle also tells Seymour that she might even appear on Oprah. “It’s in the pipeline, but I don’t want to get into it here.” But don’t expect to see her on Dancing with the Stars. She declares, “I’ve got two left feet so I don’t know…[I] have to learn to dance first!”

Boyle sends Simon Cowell a personal message saying, “Thank you for giving me a chance, Mr Cowell and I’ll do my best.” She adds, “He’s a good judge and a very honest person.”

PLUS – No makeover for Boyle! She declares, “I wouldn’t like to change anything. I’m perfect the way I am.” Another person who agrees is rocker Jon Bon Jovi! At last night’s Food Bank for New York City’s Can-Do Awards dinner, he told “Extra” he hopes she wins the competition saying, “God bless her. After pursuing the dream and never giving up, good for her. I hope she knocks this one out of the park!” Boyle reaction to the kind words? She blushes and says, “I think he’s fantastic!”

[From Extra via the Huffington Post]

I know it’s totally cheeseball, but everyone rooting for Susan makes me all warm and fuzzy inside. I can’t help it. I’m glad she’s been kissed, but not really surprised. I also doubt the virgin thing is true. Clichéd as it is, I believe there’s someone for everyone. And you can tell Susan has an awesome personality; I would think she’s had interest from some gentlemen over the years.

I also doubt her description of herself as living alone with her cat – which I think was meant to imply she’s the stereotype of someone who’s lonely (at least when coupled with the never been kissed thing) – is accurate. She just seems so funny and down to earth. I’d imagine she has plenty of friends. If she didn’t before, she sure does now. Along with gentlemen callers, according to some internet rumors.

Susan Boyle gets an eyebrow makeover

30348PCN_Boyle
I know a lot of you are getting burnt out on Susan Boyle stories, but we couldn’t pass this one up. The 47 year-old “Britains Got Talent” contestant was seen outside her home in Blackburn, Scotland today with thinner, groomed eyebrows. She also had her hair in an upswept style. There’s been a lot of speculation over whether much-watched YouTube sensation Boyle would get a makeover. She’s been wearing slightly more fashionable clothes lately and now that she has thinner eyebrows I think we can assume that she’s open to some makeup and maybe a new hairstyle.

Boyle told The Times that she was happy with her appearance but that she wouldn’t mind a little help:

“Maybe I’ll consider a makeover later on,” she laughs. “For now I’m happy the way I am — short and plump. I would not go in for Botox or anything like that. I’m content with the way I look. What’s wrong with looking like Susan Boyle? What’s the matter with that?”

[From The Times]

Britain’s Got Talent judge Amanda Holden expressed similar doubts about a makeover for Boyle, saying “The minute we turn her into a glamour-puss is when it’s spoilt.”

I think she looks great with thinner eyebrows as they really open up her face. We’re more interested in hearing her sing again than watching her beauty transformation. It seems like she has a lot to live up to the next time she sings given all the hype. Boyle’s talent is probably not a one-off though, a 1999 recording she made of the song “Cry Me a River” for a charity CD is just as good if not more so than her rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream.”

According to photo agency Pacific Coast News, Boyle was seen out holding a piece of paper with Oprah’s PR number on it. I guess we can look forward to seeing her on the show. I’d rather hear all about this older lady with the beautiful voice than Octomom any day.

Susan Boyle hounded by paparazzi, has most-viewed video clip of all time
Susan Boyle Seen At Home After Her Recent Success On Britain's Got Talent

47 year-old previously undiscovered songstress Susan Boyle has captivated the world with her compelling story and moving voice. Plain-looking Susan wowed the world with an amazing performance of “I Dreamed a Dream” on competition show “Britain’s Got Talent” a week and a half ago, and has graciously granted interviews around the world from her modest home in Scotland. A single video on YouTube featuring Susan’s audition has been viewed over 38 million times, with Internet experts estimating that clips of Susan have collectively been seen over 100 million times, making her performance the most watched video on the Internet in history.

There are all sorts of theories as to why and how Susan moves us – she’s single, picked a song that conveys deep longing and lost years, and has unparalleled talent that laid hidden for decades as she struggled to care for an aging mother. Whatever the reasons, Susan is a new star and we can’t get enough of her.

Unfortunately all this attention seems like it’s bothering the woman from a small town who mostly kept to herself before plucking up her courage to perform in front of millions. She’s being hounded by the paparazzi and journalists camped outside her house:

How famous is Britain’s YouTube sensation Susan Boyle? Her home is staked out with photographers and journalists hoping for an interview, nine days after she belted out a song on “Britain’s Got Talent” and shot to superstardom.

On Tuesday Getty took a new batch of photos of her in Blackburn, West Lothian in Scotland, including shots of one journo trying to get a quote.

“Britain’s Got Talent” is currently in the audition phase of the show, and Boyle won’t return to perform for at least a few weeks. Wikipedia says that the final competition is on May 30, but we hope to hear Susan again before that. Maybe if the world can see her sing again soon, she’ll get a little peace. It’s hard to imagine that we can get enough of her, though. I know I’ve watched her YouTube clip at least 10 times. Whatever happens, Susan’s life and fortunes have been changed forever with that beautiful song. Hopefully it’s for the better for her and she’ll be able to come to terms with her newfound fame. From the interviews I’ve seen, she seems to be coping quite nicely and a little annoyance with photographers just goes with the territory.

Susan Boyle on Larry King Live, accepts date, sings “My Heart Will Go On”

Everyone wants a piece of Susan Boyle, the 47 year-old unemployed Scottish spinster who captured the hearts of millions with a beautiful pitch perfect rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” on last week’s edition of “Britain’s Got Talent.” People around the world are captivated by Susan’s story of an older woman living in obscurity who was able to audition for a reality show and instantly change her life and fortune with an immense talent hidden for years. I was hoping that Susan would perform again on this week’s edition of the show, but similar to the first round of American Idol it’s currently in the audition phase and Susan has made it to the next phase and won’t appear for some time. She’s been interviewed from her home in Scotland throughout the week, though, and has appeared on CBS’ early show, The Today Show, and CNN’s Larry King Live.

On Larry King, Boyle sang a new song, Celine Dion’s “My Heart Will Go On.” Judge Pierce Morgan, also on via satellite, called it “amazing” and asked Boyle if she would go to dinner with him. She gladly accepted. Boyle explained that the mild taunting of her ahead of her performance on the show didn’t bother her and that she knew she had to just push through it and perform. The choice of her audition song “I Dreamed a Dream” from Les Miserables, about lost hope and lost love, was significant, she said:

True, she astounded the likes of Simon Cowell on England’s Britain’s Got Talent with her vocal stylings. But prior to her performance, the judges and audience made no attempt to hide their snickering as they openly made fun of the 47-year-old’s appearance on stage.

It’s fair now to say that Boyle showed them, but what was she thinking up there as she faced a sea of judgement?

“It didn’t bother me at all,” Boyle told Larry King on Larry King Live Friday night. “I just got on with my act because that’s what you’re there for, to keep going.”

Britain’s Got Talent judge, Piers Morgan, says it’s Susan’s confidence that really sets her apart. “I think she’s got an amazing spirit and determination,” he told King. “I think that Susan had an absolute confidence in her ability as a singer so she didn’t really care that people were laughing or not laughing. I think she was more focused on the fact that she had her chance, a shot. It was almost like the Rocky Balboa script. Coming out of nowhere and you get a shot, you take it, and suddenly you’re the world’s champion.”

Susan tells King she’s taken “a few singing lessons” for two years. When asked why she chose the song “I Dreamed a Dream” from the Broadway smash Les Miserables, she said, “I sang that song because it fit within the circumstances of the particular time. It was the way I was feeling at the time, it sort of summed up what I was aiming for.”

[From OK! Magazine]

In a taped segment ahead of Boyle’s Today Show appearance on Friday, panel judge Amanda Holden said that no makeover was planned for Boyle and that “The minute we turn her into a glamour-puss is when it’s spoilt.”

Susan’s performance has received nearly 33 million views on You Tube. I know I’ve watched it many times. I’m just waiting to hear when she’ll perform again and can’t wait to see what she does next.

“Britain’s Got Talent” sensation Susan Boyle on the Early Show

Watch CBS Videos Online
47 year-old Scottish woman Susan Boyle made headlines around the world with an incredible audition for “Britain’s Got Talent.” Boyle’s haunting pitch-perfect rendition of “I Dreamed a Dream” is an Internet sensation and has been viewed over 12 million times on YouTube. “Britain’s Got Talent” set up Susan’s audition as one in which you expect the person to not be able to sing a note. She’s a frumpy older woman with bushy eyebrows and puffy hair and they played that kind of music during her introduction that pokes fun at the person. Susan told the camera ahead of her performance that she lives alone with her cat, Pebbles and that “I’ve never been married, never been kissed.” She got a little flustered when Simon was questioning her on stage. You just kind of expect her to fail and then she belts out this amazing, touching tune.

Boyle appeared on CBS’ Early Show this morning, and she’s not quite media savvy yet, but she sang the song again and you can tell her performance on “Britain’s Got Talent” was no fluke. She hit every note in her A cappella version. Boyle said her courage to sing in front of so many people came from her mother, who died recently. She said we’ll have to watch “Britain’s Got Talent” to see what she sings next. Millions around the world will be tuning in.

In an interview posted on Britain’s Got Talent’s website, Susan says her dream is to sing for the Queen. I’ll bet that comes true for her before the year is out.

The next episode of “Britain’s Got Talent” airs this Saturday.
