Kathie Lee Gifford confirms that Taylor Swift crashed a Kennedy wedding

I can’t believe how much interest there is over Taylor Swift crashing a Kennedy wedding. I guess it’s not that surprising – it’s one of those genius stories that has everyone interested because it has an element for everyone. The purely gossip-lovers enjoy the story because we’ve been following Taylor Swift’s sudden summer romance with a high school Kennedy boy, and we’ve been uncomfortable the whole time. The political people are paying attention because it involves one of the most important political families in America. And the judgy, Miss Manners-types are interested in the story because it involves a self-involved celebrity stealing a bride’s thunder on her wedding day. They’ve even been discussing the story on Morning Joe, of all places.

So, what more is there to add? Either you believe the mother of the bride, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, who told the Boston Herald that she asked Swifty to leave, or you believe Swifty and her rep, who claimed that the bride was super-thrilled that Swifty crashed her wedding. Well, someone else has chimed in! And that person is perpetually-drunk Kathie Lee Gifford, who was actually AT the wedding:

Visit NBCNews.com for breaking news, world news, and news about the economy

Am I alone in not really understanding who Kathie was related to? I think she’s related to somebody through marriage. Anyway, here’s the summary:

On Thursday Today show, Kathie Lee Gifford confirmed what the Boston Herald reported Wednesday: Conor Kennedy and his girlfriend Taylor Swift crashed the wedding of Victoria Gifford Kennedy in Boston last Saturday.

“The truth, because I was there,” Gifford said on television, “[is that] Vicki, [my husband] Frank’s daughter’s account of what happened in Boston is accurate.”

Kathie Lee, the step-grandmother of the bride, explained that Conor was invited to the wedding but failed to RSVP and, instead, texted the bride’s mother, Vicki Kennedy, right before the ceremony and asked to attend.

“He got in touch with her an hour earlier and said, basically, ‘Can I bring my girlfriend?’ ” Gifford explained. “[It was] a beautiful sit-down dinner that had been planned for months.”

Nevertheless, the pair showed up at the wedding, says Kathie Lee.

A source close to the bride and groom confirms the account, telling PEOPLE, “It was kind of weird, and the family felt like they couldn’t do anything.”

Still, says Gifford, Conor and Swift, whom she said was waiting in the hallway for her boyfriend, did eventually leave. “[Conor] came out and took [Swift] by the hand and they left,” said Kathie Lee. “So, I didn’t know there was any drama going on at the time.”

So, why were the two asked to leave? As Gifford’s Today co-host Hoda Kotb put it: “When Taylor Swift walks into your wedding, she gets all the attention and you’re chopped liver.”

Meanwhile, the source tells PEOPLE that Conor and Swift did return to dance at the reception. (“At that point [the bride and groom] didn’t care,” says the source.)

And Kathie Lee adds, perhaps the Grammy winning singer didn’t know she committed a faux pas.

“I’m not sure she didn’t know she wasn’t invited,” says Gifford.

Swift’s rep, Paula Erickson, told the Boston Herald that the singer was indeed invited to the wedding and “the bride thanked her profusely for being there.”

[From People]

Granted, Kathie Lee’s version is just repeating the mother of the bride’s version, but I like how People Mag got independent confirmation of what went down. It does make Swifty seem like an a—hole. Conor Kennedy too. As for why all of this is being aired publicly… I think there’s been a shift in how the Kennedy family sees Taylor Swift. There are divisions – which is nothing new. The Kennedys always disagree amongst themselves. I think there’s a pro-Swifty camp which is dwindling, and an anti-Swifty Kennedy camp which is growing. She simply moved in too fast, and she has provoked too much controversy too fast.

Did Taylor Swift crash a Kennedy wedding and refuse to leave when asked?

I feel like an idiot for missing this story earlier this week, but better late than never, I guess. I apologize for not seeing it! Taylor Swift is cray, obviously, and I mentioned yesterday that Swifty managed to finagle her way into a Kennedy wedding over the weekend. What I didn’t mention – but several commenters discussed – was that Swifty was asked REPEATEDLY to leave the wedding, and that she and Conor Kennedy basically crashed the wedding. Some details:

Taylor Swift crashed the Kennedy wedding in Boston over the weekend and did not leave after being twice asked to do so, the mother of the bride, Victoria Gifford Kennedy, told the Track yesterday. But Swift’s publicist insisted that the country superstar was a welcome guest and that the bride was happy to have her share the spotlight.

A source at the hotel reported seeing Swift being asked to leave the Fairmont Copley Plaza hotel where Kyle Kennedy, the daughter of the late Michael Kennedy and Victoria Gifford Kennedy, was celebrating her marriage to Liam Kerr on Saturday. So we rang up Vicki for the 411.

“They texted me an hour before the wedding and asked if they could come,” Vicki Kennedy said. “I responded with a very clear, ‘Please do not come.’ They came anyway. … I personally went up to Ms. Swift, whose entrance distracted the entire event, politely introduced myself to her, and asked her as nicely as I could to leave. It was like talking to a ghost. She seemed to look right past me.”

But Swift’s spokeswoman Paula Erikson insisted it was not true.

“There is no truth to that,” she said. “Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there.”

According to Vicki, Conor was invited to the wedding, but he never RSVP’d. When she got a text asking if he and his new girlfriend could come to the reception, the mother of the bride declined, because she didn’t want the country superstar to detract from her daughter’s big day.

But Swift and Conor showed up at the hotel and the singer’s appearance caused a mild commotion in the lobby with fans asking for pictures and autographs. Vicki said the duo left the reception during the dinner — and indeed pictures of Taylor walking through Haymarket in her wedding outfit were posted on Twitter and the singer was spotted in the North End. But, Vicki said, they returned after the meal and spent the rest of the night dancing at the reception.

As you know, Taylor, 22, and Conor, 18, — who is going to be a junior at Deerfield Academy in the fall — have been dating for most of the summer. According to The Associated Press, the Grammy winner, Conor and several other members of the Kennedy clan, made a visit to the grave of Conor’s mother, Mary Richardson, in Hyannis the other day. Swift held hands with Conor, consoled him, and the group at one point bowed their heads in prayer, according to the report.

Conor’s 52-year-old mother hanged herself May 16 in a barn behind the couple’s home in Bedford, N.Y., amid bitter divorce proceedings and a battle with depression and addiction. Reports say Swift is helping Conor deal with the tragedy.

[From The Boston Herald]

Some people are blaming Swifty. Some people are blaming Conor. You know what? They’re both to blame. It doesn’t make either of them look good, and if I had been that bride, I would have pitched an unqualified fit. Why would a famous person – any given celebrity, just name one – crash a stranger’s wedding? The average bride would be totally pissed that the celebrity is hijacking her special day, and while I think Swifty’s denial is funny (“Taylor was invited to the wedding and the bride thanked her profusely for being there”), I’d be interested in hearing that from the actual bride, you know? RUDE. As for the discrepancies in just what year Conor Kennedy is – junior or senior – we still don’t know. CB thinks Team Swifty is saying he’s a junior, but the Boston Herald probably has more credibility.

Oh, and Us Weekly has a story about Swifty’s romance too – I tend to put a lot of stock into Us Weekly’s Swifty overall coverage, because Swifty pretty much called up Us Weekly’s editors and told them everything from her side of the Jake Gyllenhaal relationship and breakup. Anyway, a “source” tells Us Weekly that Swifty “is not bothered” by the fact that Conor will only be starting his senior year of high school in September. Swifty thinks Conor is “a smart, sensitive guy… She says it’s a fantasy come true.” Because she’s had fantasies about becoming the next unhappy Kennedy wife, I guess. Another friend tells Us Weekly, “She’s always rushing into love. We all wonder why she can’t take it slow.” Cough. Another terrible, negative person says, “She has a habit of smothering guys and pushing them away.” OMG, you mean Swifty is NOT the second coming of Jackie Kennedy. Color me shocked.

As for how Conor’s mom recently died and how Conor is in charge of his late mother’s estate, a Swifty insider says, “Taylor’s been counseling him. He’s taking over Mary’s estate and she can relate. She oversees everything in her life. They’re so similar.” LIKE OMG Your mom just died and you’re in charge of her estate that’s so funny because I write checks for my bills OMG we should get married.

Will Taylor Swift bring her high school boyfriend Conor Kennedy to the VMAs?

I really wish we had just a few of the new photos of Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy from the past week. Over the weekend, they were making out in full view of the paparazzi in Hyannis Port, and Swifty was cavorting around in her modest, vintage-y polka-dotted bikini. The NYDN also got exclusive photos of Swifty and Conor visiting his mom’s grave a few days ago – because apparently the paparazzi don’t even have qualms about taking photos during that sort of thing. Oh, and Swifty was Conor’s date at a Kennedy family wedding over the weekend too. Wow. She really is moving in hard and fast, isn’t she? Damn, Swifty.

As I’ve said before – and I will continue to say – I’ve grown quite creeped out by this whole “romance”. This young man is still in high school/prep school – he doesn’t graduate until next year. And Swifty is already making long-term plans to be with him during his final year of high school too – she bought a house adjacent to the Kennedy compound. Because why not? Ugh. Anyway, People Mag now asks if Swifty is going to bring Conor as her date to this year’s VMAs, which are going down in less than two weeks.

It’s been quite a summer for Taylor Swift and new her beau, Conor Kennedy.

The enamored couple have held hands at a pizzeria in Mount Kisco, N.Y., been welcomed by the Kennedy clan, visited Swift’s hometown of Nashville and escaped to Hyannis Port, Mass. together

Swift, 22, is even reportedly purchasing a 13-room home across the street from Connor’s grandmother, Ethel, in Hyannis Port.

Things are moving quickly for the young couple, but is Kennedy, the 18-year-old son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy, ready to make his red carpet debut at the MTV VMAs on Sept. 6?

The singer, who is not nominated for any awards, is slated to perform her latest single, “We Are Never Ever Getting Back Together,” for the first time live at the awards show. Fans can’t help but wonder if Kennedy will accompany the Grammy award winner on her big night.

If he attends, Kennedy will have to deal with more than just posing for photos. Swift’s ex-boyfriends, John Mayer, Taylor Lautner and Joe Jonas may also be in attendance.

But there is one major hitch for the couple’s potential date: Kennedy, a senior at a boarding school on the east coast, is due back on campus Sept. 6 – the same day as the awards show – for the beginning of the new school year.

Other scheduled acts at the VMAs include Pink, Alicia Keys, Green Day and One Direction. The VMAs will air live from the Staples Center in Los Angeles.

[From People]

Yes, there’s just SO MUCH high school dramz, isn’t there? Like, literally, there’s drama because her boyfriend is in high school. And beyond that, Joe Jonas will, like, be THERE. AND Taylor Lautner! But I don’t think Swifty should count either of those boys, since it’s not like she really did anything with them, you know? I doubt they even got to second base – or, as Joe Jonas calls it, “The Place Mommy Says Is The Second Most Ickiest Place On A Girl.” No, the real concern is John Mayer, because I’m pretty sure Mayer got to spend time with her in the Biblical high school sense. Jake Gyllenhaal too, but God, I can’t imagine that Jake would come to the VMAs. Especially not when Swifty is singing her latest breakup anthem which I’m assuming is about Jake.

Taylor Swift really did buy a house close to the Kennedy compound: creepy?

What started out as a minor, bizarre little summer love story has become increasingly creepy and bothersome… to me. For the most part, I don’t take celebrity gossip all that seriously – meaning, I don’t personalize it, I don’t try to interject myself into the proverbial shoes of any given celebrity. But this Taylor Swift-Conor Kennedy thing is really bugging me, and I can’t help but feel a tidal wave of emotion for and about 18-year-old Conor Kennedy. Conor just lost his mom. He’s still dealing with all of the “shoulda, woulda, coulda” of his parents’ awful split, which was then compounded by his mom’s suicide. Now he’s the administrator to his mother’s estate too, going through her papers, dealing with all of the loose ends she left behind. And he’s still in high school – one source claimed he was going into his junior year of prep school, some sources say he’s headed into his senior year, but the common denominator is that he’s STILL IN HIGH SCHOOL.

And then Swifty comes into the picture, angling to get into the Kennedy clan in any way possible. In what world are Taylor Swift’s actions not seen as predatory and simply wrong? Oh, I’m sorry – we’re supposed to believe that Swifty is “helping” and “supporting” Conor through this difficult time. You know what would be a big help? Not forcing a relationship on an 18-year-old who is having a really horrible year! But Swifty is willfully clueless about that kind of thing. That’s why she just bought a property adjacent to the Kennedy compound. Of course.

After getting a taste of the Kennedy lifestyle this summer, Taylor Swift apparently feels she could get used to it. The Nashville-based singer, 22, who is dating Robert F. Kennedy Jr.’s son Conor, 18, has bought a house in Hyannis Port, Mass., across the street from Conor’s grandmother Ethel, according to several reports.

A realtor in Hyannis, Mass., confirmed the purchase to PEOPLE, saying Swift bought the property last week.

“It’s in a beautiful location and right across the street from Conor and the Kennedys,” the realtor says. “It’s a beautiful home. She got a nice home, paid fair price. The house was on the market for two to four years.”

The realtor said the property – said to be a 13-room home overlooking Nantucket Sound with seven bedrooms and five bathrooms – was originally listed for $14 million but was “way overpriced.” Local reports say Swift scooped it up for $4.9 million.

Swift, who is said to be “swept off her feet” by Conor, has many admirers in the Kennedy clan, with Ethel’s daughter Rory calling her “a great friend of all of ours.”

[From People]

This whole thing deserves a siren call of “DANGER DANGER”. Best case scenario: this relationship lasts until… what? He graduates from high school? So, maybe another year. A year in which Swifty balances being an international musical superstar with her boyfriend who is still in high school. And then what after that? What happens when Conor meets some nice teenage girl from a nice political family? What if Swifty’s drama gets to be too much really, really quickly? I guess she can just put the property back on the market. It just feels so… ugh. I don’t even have the words for how icky I feel about all of this.

Taylor Swift “is helping Conor Kennedy get through” his mother’s death

A few days ago, the header photo got wide play, with many people suggesting that the photo showed Taylor Swift enjoying a lunch date with Conor Kennedy, her 18-year-old boyfriend, and her parents in Nashville. I think it does look like Conor Kennedy from behind, but Swifty’s people quickly rebuffed those reports, claiming that the dude was actually Swifty’s brother, and the photo is from June. Hm. But! There WERE sightings of Conor Kennedy and Swifty in Nashville. So… he probably did meet her parents…?

Taylor Swift’s love story with Conor Kennedy is moving to her home turf. On Thursday, Swift, 22, and Kennedy, 18, were spotted at Edley’s BBQ in Nasvhille, where she posed for pictures with fans.

“They were both very relaxed and casual and for the most part were left alone to enjoy their dinner with a friend,” one fan writes of the couple.

Writes another: “All I know is that she seems so, so happy right now and when Taylor is happy, so am I!”

Another photo posted by a fan shows Swift dining with her parents and a young man with shaggy hair.

Despite widespread reports that this was Conor meeting her parents, the photo actually depicts her brother at a Father’s Day meal in June, Swift’s rep tells PEOPLE.

[From People]

A 22-year-old country music superstar brought her just-turned-18-years-old boyfriend home to Nashville and… I don’t know how to feel. I wonder how Conor’s dad feels about him moving so fast with Swifty? Traveling from Massachusetts to Tennessee with this girl, it seems kind of sketchy to me. Last week, tabloids claimed that the Kennedy family is actually becoming divided over Swifty’s sudden appearance on the shores of Hyannis Port. Some even feel like Swifty has “manipulated” her way into the inner fold, and that she’s taking advantage of a young kid who is emotionally vulnerable just a few months after he lost his mother. Thankfully, Page Six got an interesting take on the situation from a source who is solidly Team Swifty:

The romance between Taylor Swift and Conor Kennedy continues to blossom, with friends saying the singer’s “positive spirit” is helping him through the heartbreak of losing his mother.

Pals say the 22-year-old superstar has really helped 18-year-old Conor, the son of Robert F. Kennedy Jr., following the death of his mother Mary Richardson Kennedy. And Taylor has encouraged Conor to pursue his interest in whale research as well as take on the huge responsibility of becoming administrator of his late mother’s estate.

A source told us, “Taylor has a really generous and positive spirit, and the whole Kennedy family loves her. She met Ethel at Sundance in January [when the singer attended the screening of HBO documentary “Ethel”], and then she came out to visit the family at Hyannis Port on the Fourth of July. It has been a very difficult time for Conor, losing his mother, and Taylor has great positive energy. She is definitely helping him through this. He is so young and has a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, becoming the administrator of his mother’s estate. It’s a lot of work, but he is smart and reliable, and will stand up to the role.”

The source said Conor has been doing volunteer work to help extract DNA from whales to research how the Gulf of Mexico oil spill affected the mammals. His father is the president of Waterkeeper Alliance, which campaigns for safe waterways worldwide.

Our source added, “Conor is a genuine guy and, like his father, is interested in environmental issues and is trying to save the world.”

Aside from spending time with the family, the Kennedy kids have been concentrating on personal projects as they grieve the loss of their mother. Kyra, 16, has been in Africa on a church mission. Fin, 14, has been at ski camp.

Conor’s half-sister Kick, 24, appears in HBO’s “Newsroom” and has been working with patients at Bellevue Hospital. She told us, “Conor has the biggest heart in the world, and Taylor is lovely. It’s been a tough summer, and I hope he gets to enjoy a little peace now.”

[From Page Six]

He’s administrator of his mother’s estate? That seems kind of odd, given his age. And I’m really not sure how much I buy this whole “Taylor has great positive energy, she’s helping him through all of it” take. Frankly, this whole thing is making my stomach churn. Even if Swifty isn’t actively trying to manipulate her way into the Kennedy clan (which she’s probably not), she is moving incredibly fast and working to make herself invaluable to a young guy who has had a really, really difficult year. Ugh. I really wish she would just take a step back.

Taylor Swift “manipulated her way into the Kennedys,” sources say

On to the continuing adventures of Swifty & Jailbait Kennedy. Yesterday, we discussed whether or not Swifty moved in for the kill (“the kill” being “putting a 17-year-old’s hand on her boob”) on Conor Kennedy when he was only 17 years old. Considering Swifty has been circling the Kennedy family like a hawk looking for dong-shaped prey for months, I have no problems believing that Swifty was simply looking for the first somewhat eligible Kennedy boy to pounce on. Still, Swifty wants us to believe that she’s not doing anything but falling in love with a lovely boy who has swept her off her feet. Yes, a boy barely out of high school (I think he was still IN high school when they first began dating) swept a musical superstar off her feet. But there’s danger! Danger because Swifty could get her little heart broken:

With Patrick Schwarzenegger declared off limits, Taylor Swift has moved on to his 18-year-old cousin Conor Kennedy – but pals are warning Taylor that she’ll wind up singing the blues!

“Everyone has been reminding Taylor that Kennedy men are notorious womanizers,” said a source close to the 22-year-old. “There’s a long history in that family of cheating, and she should just run for the hills! But Taylor just laughs it off, at one point saying, ‘Don’t be silly, Conor has a heart of gold.’”

“Taylor and Conor have taken over the Kennedy compound,” revealed the source. “If they aren’t sailing or tossing around a football on the lawn, they’re strolling the grounds hand-in-ahnd or smooching under a tree.”

Now Taylor is looking to buy a nearby $4.9 mansion. Said the source: “She and Conor remind people of a young John and Jackie Kennedy – they’re the talk of the town!”

[From The Enquirer, print edition]

Oh. My. GOD. “She and Conor remind people of a young John and Jackie Kennedy – they’re the talk of the town!” SHUT THE FRONT DOOR. In NO world would an 18-year-old boy (!!) and Taylor Swift remind anyone of Jack Kennedy and Jackie. NO WAY. As for the whole “Swifty is forever a victim, she’s the one who needs to protect herself” storyline. I’ve known for a while that Swifty is the new Jennifer Aniston. Y’all need to believe me.

At least In Touch Weekly is fighting the good fight with a storyline that sounds slightly more reasonable – their Swifty story this week boils down to “The Kennedys aren’t so sure about this shifty Swifty person.” According to In Touch’s sources, “There has been a lot of talk in the Kennedy family about Taylor, and people are not happy.” There’s a rift between Swifty-supporters like Ethel Kennedy and “a small group of family members” who think that Swifty “manipulated her way into the Kennedys.”

Another part of the concern, according to In Touch (and me): Conor’s mom just passed away and Conor “is especially vulnerable.” A source says: “It should be a time for the family to get together and heal… Taylor is using Conor to get an in with his family… they feel that if he falls for her, she may break his heart.”

Which leads me to finally (!!) give you my theory on how this Conor-Swifty relationship will end:

Conor: “I don’t know, I’ve never really understood why people like ponies.”
Swifty: “OMG I HATE YOU.”

No, in all honesty he’ll probably dump her. Over the phone. Because that’s just what happens to her. And then she’ll devote a whole album to it. The album will be called… Forgetting Camelot. Or Lost Camelot. Or Bubblegum Camelot Dreams. Songs will include: “It Felt Like Dallas When You Dumped Me” and “I’m Your Marilyn”.

Was Taylor Swift dating Conor Kennedy before he even turned 18 years old?

Last week, we were inundated with reports about Taylor Swift’s newest boyfriend, the 18-year-old Conor Kennedy. Conor is the oldest son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy, who committed suicide just a few months ago. Swifty seemed to be circling the Kennedy clan for months, and there were even rumors that she was dating Patrick Schwarzenegger, who is also only 18 years old – Patrick turns 19 in September, whereas Conor only turned 18 last month. I’m pointing out the difference in ages by months for a reason – because Page Six claims Swifty was quietly dating Conor before he even turned 18:

Could Taylor Swift be a Kennedy cougar? Sources tell us the country singing star, 22, kicked off her friendship with Conor Kennedy months ago, when he was still a minor. We’re told Conor’s cousins would accompany them on dates, but the family insisted they wait until after he turned 18 to come out as a couple. Now People magazine reports: “Their romance became quite public on July 25 — just a day after Conor’s 18th birthday — with a hand-holding pizza outing in his hometown of Mount Kisco, NY.” Since then, the two have been spotted kissing in public, and a source tells us, “They’ve already said, ‘I love you.’ ” However, a rep for Swift insisted, “This is not true.”

[From Page Six]

This is really similar to what happened between Swifty’s friend Selena Gomez and Justin Bieber, right? Selena pounced on The Bieb when he was only 17, and she’s more than two years older than The Bieb. The difference between a 17 year old boy and a 19-year-old girl is big enough. But the difference between a 17-year-old KENNEDY boy and a 22-year-old girl-woman like Swifty? That is huge. I’m sorry. I would feel the same way if the genders were reversed too, and a 22-year-old boy-man was going after a 17-year-old girl. What makes it even worse – in my opinion – is that Swifty is playing it like Conor has “swept her off her feet”. Please. That’s just gross.

Taylor Swift has been “swept off her feet” by 18-year-old Conor Kennedy

Are you surprised that Taylor Swift, 22, is dating an 18-year-old Kennedy boy? I am. I had never realized that Swifty was so “into” the Kennedy family. But she is. It’s now been established that Swifty is dating Robert Kennedy Jr.’s son Conor. Swifty and Conor have been spotted all around Hyannis Port and Cape Cod over the past few weeks, after initial media reports (a month ago) claimed that Swifty was actually into Patrick Schwarzenegger, the 18-year-old son of Arnold and Maria Shriver. Some disagree and some agree with me that it’s a very big deal when the girl is 22 years old (and a musical superstar) and the boy is 18 years old (and a Kennedy). That’s a big difference in ages, in experiences, in social spheres, in everything. But Swifty is trying to sell this idea that Conor “swept her off her feet”. FOR REAL.

Fresh into his relationship with Taylor Swift, has Conor Kennedy already joined the ranks of her famous ex-boyfriends – including John Mayer, Taylor Lautner and Joe Jonas – whose memories with the country crooner play out in her music?

Not so fast, according to one source, who says this love song is still being written, with Swift falling hard for the son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy.

“They have been dating for a bit,” says the source. “She is swept off her feet.”

Age is clearly not a factor – he’s 18 and she’s 22 – but what may be is the Grammy winner’s affection for his extended family. Even before they were spotted getting cozy, Swift made no secret of her fascination with the Kennedys.

She attended the Sundance Film Festival last January to take in his aunt Rory Kennedy’s HBO documentary, Ethel, about her mother (and Conor’s grandmother).

“She really just loves my mother, which is so sweet,” Rory Kennedy told ABC News some time ago. “I’m a huge fan of hers – I have young girls and we had been to a few of her concerts.”

“I met with her at one of them, and she had read a ton of books about our family,” Rory continued. “She was inspired and wrote a song.”

And Swift said in an interview in February’s Vogue: “The only time in my life I have ever been star-struck was meeting Caroline and Ethel Kennedy. I got to spend the afternoon with Ethel a couple of weeks ago,” she added. “She is one of my favorites because you look back at the pictures of her and Bobby, and they always look like they are having the most fun out of everybody. You know, eleven kids, all these exotic animals on their property.”

She went on to say, “I’ve read a lot about them.”

[From People]

I hope Swifty HAS read a lot about them. I hope she read the bad parts of those books as well as the interesting, awesome parts. Because with Kennedy greatness comes Kennedy awfulness. And Kennedy men aren’t really known for making the best boyfriends and husbands. Besides that, I just don’t see how an 18-year-old Kennedy boy (who just lost his mom, FTLOG) is suddenly the most romantic, perfect, sparkly boyfriend ever and HE is the one who is sweeping Swifty off her feet.

Meanwhile, Rory Kennedy (Conor’s aunt) and Ethel Kennedy (Conor’s grandmother and widow of RFK) have given Swifty their approval. Ethel said she didn’t set Swifty up with Conor: “As for my involvement, certainly not. Rory [Kennedy] went to a concert.” And Rory confirmed: “I went to a concert with my two daughters and that’s how it all started. She’s a great friend of all of ours. She’s awesome and we love her.” When asked if Swifty would be welcomed into the Kennedy clan, Ethel said, “We should be so lucky!”

Oh, an eyewitness told Us Weekly that last Friday, “Conor put his arm around Taylor and they kissed behind the boat shed.” How 50 Shades. If you’ve read the book, you know what goes down in the boatshed.

Taylor Swift is actually dating 18-year-old Conor Kennedy, son of RFK Jr.

*This is a Twitter photo of Swifty and Conor out and about over the weekend.

A few months ago, Taylor Swift was spotted on vacation with the Kennedy clan. The vacation spot was Hyannis Port, of course, where the Kennedy family maintains their extensive compound. The rumors – at the time – were all about Swifty trying to get on Maria Shriver’s son Patrick Schwarzenegger. The evidence seemed to be some photos (of a larger group) in which Patrick and Swifty looked somewhat attentive to each other. The tabloids picked up on it and tried to make it into a “Romeo & Juliet” situation, in which the Shriver-Schwarzenegger-Kennedy clan wanted nothing to do with Swifty and her low-class, musical ways.

But! As it turns out, Swifty wasn’t with Patrick. Or maybe she just wasn’t with him for very long. There are new photos – go here to see them – that indicate that Swifty is actually with Conor Kennedy, the son of RFK Jr and the late Mary Kennedy (who just hanged herself a few months ago, yikes). He’s 18 years old!!! She’s 22. I’m sorry, but that’s a big deal when you’re that age. What’s worse? Lainey’s sources say Swifty is already considering a real estate purchase close to the Kennedy compound!! Oh, Swifty.

Oops, wrong Kennedy! Over the Fourth of July, Taylor Swift was photographed hugging Patrick Schwarzenegger, Maria Shriver’s son. But now it appears that Conor Kennedy, the son of Robert Kennedy Jr. and the late Mary Kennedy, is actually Taylor’s love interest. He is pictured just to the right of Swift in the same photo – and the two have been spending lots of time together.

On July 25, Swift, 22, and Kennedy, 18, enjoyed slices at Kennedy family favorite Marcella’s Pizza in his hometown, Mount Kisco, N.Y., and “walked out hand-in-hand,” according to a source. Earlier that day, Kennedy was appointed as the administrator of his late mom’s $2.1 million-plus estate, according to the Boston Herald.

Days later, the pair grabbed pizza again and visited with his grandmother, Ethel Kennedy. And on July 29, they lunched with friends at Baxter’s on Cape Cod where she ate chicken fingers and sat next to Kennedy. Swift “was smiling a lot and she looked happy,” says an observer.

The New York Post also reports that the couple were seen kissing and holding hands over the weekend.

Swift has been open about her love for all things Kennedy. She said she was “starstruck” when she met Caroline and Ethel in January, and has called Jackie Kennedy a style inspiration.

And the Kennedy’s seem to admire the Grammy-winning country star as well. On Dec. 3, Swift will be honored by the Robert F. Kennedy Center for Justice and Human Rights for her commitment to social change, especially her work against bullying and LGBT discrimination. Ethel Kennedy will present the award.

I can understand how Swifty might want to get involved with the Kennedy clan, and how that legitimizes her in a different way, and makes her stand out from many of the other young music stars. What’s Rihanna up to, you know? But I feel like this is going to end in disaster. It’s going to end up with Swifty being dumped over the phone (again) and Swifty trying to figure out what rhymes with “Kennedy” and “Hyannis Port” and “Schwarzenegger” for one of her sparkle-pony songs.

Oh, here’s an ABC video with some of the photos. Did anyone else snicker with the “family trampoline” reference? HARSH. You know I like Swifty, but she’s acting like a boy-crazy teenager in the middle of one of the most powerful political families in America. I hope she watches her ass.

Here are the only photos we have of Conor Kennedy at our agencies – at his mother’s funeral in May. I’m really sorry about that. Conor is the tall kid with his dad, Robert Kennedy.

Taylor Swift vs Lea Michele at the Teen Choice Awards: who looked better?

These are some photos from last night’s Teen Choice Awards, which I didn’t watch, of course. You know what I watched last night? A really awful Masterpiece Mystery: Inspector Lewis. Inspector Lewis is one of my least favorite of all of the Masterpiece Mysteries, which should tell you a lot about how much I did not want to watch the Teen Choice Awards. But I do enjoy the fashion from these events, especially because it seems that so many of these young stars struggle with what to wear – they can’t look like they’re trying too hard, they can’t over-dress, but they can’t just wear jeans either. It’s always interesting.

So let’s start off with Taylor Swift in Maria Lucia Hohan, one of her go-to designers for these events. I don’t really hate the dress, it’s flattering and the nude panels on the side and back are well-executed. You know what this dress reminds me of? Baby’s dress during the final dance in Dirty Dancing. I’ve had the time of my life…and I owe it all to you….! Swifty was totally making that reference too, I think. Also: I really do think that Swifty got bolt-ons. I really, really do.

Next up: Lea Michele in Versace. I think I might have to praise Lea, quite honestly. The dress is… it’s fine, it’s a standard little cocktail dress, I don’t love it or hate it. But I have to give Lea some credit for several things. One, she seems so much more relaxed on this carpet. Sure, she was pose-harding and making sure everybody got her dress from every angle. But looking through the photos, she just seems so much more relaxed, so much looser. I also have to give her some credit for gaining some weight back – when she went vegan a few years ago, she lost so much weight very quickly. Some of it has started to come back, and Lea looks so much healthier and happier. Overall, she just looks great.
