Is that Sara Ramirez?

Sara Ramirez, who plays Dr. Callie Torres on Grey’s Anatomy, is an accomplished stage actress and debuted on Broadway ten years ago. She won a Tony Award for best actress in 2005 for Spamalot. She announced this year’s Tony nominees at a press conference yesterday with Frasier favorite and fellow Tony winner David Hyde Pierce.

Ramirez looked much different and I had to double check to make sure it was the same person I was thinking of. She’s wearing her hair straight now and has lost weight since the last time we saw her. She looks great and like a different person. She was beautiful curvier, and she looks lovely now. Congratulations to Sara.

The Tony nominees are led by musicals “In the Heights” with 13 nominations and “South Pacific,” with 11. Here’s the full list of nominees. The Tony Awards will air June 15th at 8pm on CBS.

Madonna’s trainer reveals insane starvation diet with 2 hour/day workout

US Weekly has an article with a diet created by Madonna’s trainer, Tracy Anderson. I’ve always followed diets in which you eat at least 1200 calories in small meals throughout the day, and that’s about the lowest I can go without freaking out and binging on carbs in the afternoon. It’s uncomfortable for me, though, and I prefer to stick to around 1500 calories when I’m trying to lose weight.

Madonna’s trainer recommends a diet at under 800 calories a day, which is about 1/2 the recommend amount for women. Most experts say that 1200 calories is the absolute lowest a woman can go without feeling lethargic and deprived. A diet of 1500 calories a day is considered healthier and safer for women, and you can even eat 1,800 calories a day, exercise and lose weight safely.

So US Weekly is printing a diet that falls well under 1,000 calories a day, with some days less than 700 calories, along with recommending 2 freaking hours of exercise 6 days a week. Supposedly you can lose 20 pounds in 6 weeks with this diet. That’s insane and counter productive. Here’s the diet, along with what I’ve calculated are the calories for each from FitDay.com. (which I highly recommend if you’re counting calories - it’s free.)

WEEK ONE
Sunday
Breakfast
1 cup Kashi cereal, with ½ cup plain — or vanilla — nonfat rice milk [262 calories]
Lunch
3 oz grilled chicken breast — or fresh turkey breast (no deli meat!) — with ½ cup each of chopped cucumber and tomatoes [189 calories]
Snack
1 cup mixed berries (try raspberries, blackberries and blueberries) [45 calories]
Dinner
1 cup organic pasta with ½ cup steamed spinach [330 calories]
[Total: 826 calories]

Monday
Breakfast
1 cup Kashi cereal, with ½ cup plain—or vanilla—nonfat rice milk [262 calories]
Lunch
2 hardboiled eggs with ½ cup each of baby carrots and cherry tomatoes [194 calories]
Dinner
3 to 5 oz grilled sea bass with ½ cup steamed spinach [240 calories]
[Total: 696 calories]

[Diet from US Weekly, calories calculated at FitDay.com]

I could eat twice that, still lose weight, feel normal and content that I’m eating healthy. It really pisses me off that a diet that can fall under 700 calories a day is touted as healthy by some celebrity trainer and that’s somehow ok.

A much healthier diet is the one that Janet Jackson follows which consists of five meals a day of around 250 calories. You can even eat 6 to 7 meals at 250 calories and it’s still healthy and will help you lose plenty of weight. You should eat a mix of carbs and protein, either at each meal or at separate meals if you prefer to separate. But please - don’t go under 1200 calories a day. You’ll end up losing weight in the short run, but how are you going to keep up that diet? It could also slow down your metabolism. I’m so glad I don’t have to starve myself like that for my job. It just seems outrageous to me, especially combined with 2 hours of exercise. I’m super hungry if I eat 1200 calories a day and do an hour of hard exercise, can you imagine following this starvation diet?

Kelly LeBrock lost 12 lbs in 3 weeks on diet w/ unlimited chocolate, cake & cheese

Kelly LeBrock on 2/24/08 before she lost weight
Kelly LeBrock is best known as the hot British babe in 1985’s Weird Science. She’s a fuller-figured woman now at 48 and had everyone talking a couple of months ago by saying that she’s “never going to diet again” and will “never eat lettuce again.” She lost 31 pounds on VH1’s “Celebrity Fit Club” in 2005, but has gained it back and says it wasn’t healthy how she lost the weight so quickly.

She has a brief segment on Extra! in which she claims to have lost 12 pounds in 3 weeks on a diet that lets her eat chocolate, cake and cheese, but there’s a catch - they’re organic, flour free and sugar free alternatives. She claims to eat “as much as I want.”

At 169 pounds and 5′ 8″ tall she says “I ain’t that fat!” and she isn’t. Back in February she said she didn’t weigh herself and that “If I can fit into a ten/twelve, I’m happy.” She does seem to have backtracked a little on her previous stance that she wouldn’t diet, but that’s good for her that she lost weight and is happy. You can’t help but thinking that her flour-free sugar-free cake must taste like ass, though. It doesn’t sound as if it’s that palatable and that’s certainly got to keep you from gorging on it.

Britney’s new bikini body? Did she share a kiss with Kevin?

Britney Spears sells magazine covers, so the tabloids are going to exploit every little change in her life and body to the fullest extent possible. She’s been working out to potentially get a gig representing the fitness chain Bally Total Fitness, and she probably has firmed up. She looks fine and I’m not bashing the girl, but she doesn’t look a hell of a lot different to me.

Last week’s Star says that Britney and Kevin shared a kiss during a moment when they were discussing their two boys, and the way they described it sounded so romantic and fake:

“The were discussing the boys and how they’re doing,” a family insider tells Star, “when she suddenly got in close and kissed Kevin. She did it because she felt so close to him at that moment.”

Kevin’s reaction? “He loved the kiss, of course,” reveals the insider. Kevin’s only concern was that they smooched right in front of Sean, 2, and Jayden, 29 months. “Should we be doing this in front of the boys?” he asked Britney, according to the insider. Her rsponse: “We’re their parents, so why not?”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, April 28, 2008]

Star also claims these two talked to a therapist for two hours on April 5, but even if that happened it’s just as likely that it was about their boys and not their nonexistent romantic relationship. Star claims that they’re headed for a reunion, but that’s highly doubtful. Britney is more likely to get super fit. I would bet that she does get in shape, but it seems a little premature to be putting her on the cover and touting her success.

Here’s Britney with her dad going to a bank in Beverly Hills yesterday, thanks to WENN. Header image thanks to popbytes.

Kelly LeBrock says screw diets, she’s never eating lettuce again

csh-039932.jpg
80s fantasy chick and Weird Science babe Kelly LeBrock, now 47, lost 31 pounds on VH1’s Celebrity Fit Club back in 2005, but has since gained it back and says that the way she lost the weight wasn’t healthy. She told OK! Magazine that she’s “never going to diet again” and that she will “never eat lettuce again.”

Now I understand never dieting if it’s something that means starving for you, as long as you’re not talking about taking it to the extreme and eating huge portions of bad food, which would be someone’s prerogative I guess, but never eating lettuce? Maybe she just means that crappy iceberg lettuce that has no nutritional value, because there are a lot of different kinds of lettuce that make a nice salad and I can’t see swearing them all off.

OK! caught up with Kelly at the Oscar party Night of 100 Stars, where she was fighting mad — because, she said, a nasty magazine recently implied she was fat.

“I’m not fat!” Kelly declared. “I don’t look like a 400-pound heifer! I’m going to keep eating. I eat normally. And I’ve had three kids.”

She added that actresses like herself, “have to be role models for all these young girls” so they don’t become scary skinny.

Two years ago, Kelly, now 47, lost a total of 31 pounds on the VH-1 reality show Celebrity Fit Club, but the Weird Science star found dieting just wasn’t right for her. “I didn’t eat for three months,” she explains. “It was dangerous. It was a really bad way to lose weight. I will never eat lettuce again!”

[From OK! Magazine]

LeBrock said that she doesn’t weigh herself and that “If I can fit into a ten/twelve, I’m happy.”

If she’s happy and comfortable with herself, and from the looks of that plunging neckline on her dress she is, that’s all that matters. She looks fine apart from those chemically enhanced lips and not everyone has to be a stick. We do need more normal-sized actresses as role models, but it’s not like she gets much exposure.

There are health issues associated with being moderately overweight, and a lot of the articles I consulted about this stated that “studies show that by losing as little as 10 to 20 pounds you can dramatically improve your overall health status.”

So maybe she thinks dieting means starving yourself and eating only iceberg lettuce, but it also means getting more vegetables and maybe cutting some of those empty carbs in favor of more nutritional food.

Jennifer Love Hewitt recently said that she’s not going to exercise just to look good, and that she’ll do it for her health and so that she can live a long and happy life. That sounds like a more sensible approach to all this body criticism instead of just saying “f’ck it”

Jennifer Love Hewitt is shown at “The Envelope Please” 7th Annual Oscar Viewing Party and Kelly LeBrock is shown at Night of 100 Stars Gala Viewing Party both on 2/24/08, thanks to PRPhtoos.

Kirstie Alley to become an authority on weight loss as well as the mind

kirstiealleyweightlossprogram.jpg
Despite the fact that Kirstie Alley hasn’t yet lost the 75 pounds that she gained back in the past year, prompting Jenny Craig not to renew her contract as spokesperson, she has announced that she’s going to start her own “Weight Loss Brand” in 2009. Maybe she’s doing this to help motivate her to put her money where her mouth isn’t, and hopes that she’ll lose the weight and eventually be able to cash in on it. She’s got to make back some of that $5 million she gave to Scientology somehow:

The weight-loss field is wide open and not immune to new ideas and improved solutions for the fat problems that plague many of us Americans every day. I want to create something new that will help millions of people end the seemingly never ending fatty-roller coaster ride. I am especially passionate about seeing to it that our next generations are not struggling with the same weight issues that my generation has struggled with.

There was a time when America was not fat, and that was in our not-so-distant past. I’m confident that I can create something exciting and innovative: something that if all goes well, will help change a fat America back into a fit America and will offer this country the healthiest, yummiest, easiest and most effective weight-loss program on the market.

If not, I’ll see you at Central Casting.

Oh, but hey, don’t “Call Kirstie” just yet. You’ll be on hold too long. Call me next year.

[Kristie Alley’s statement on People.com]

A lot of you wondered that since the Scientologists are so good at solving everyone’s problems why they didn’t have their own weight loss solution. This obvious question seems to have occurred to them too, and now overweight victims can have their wallets emptied along with their minds. Maybe they’ll lose some weight too.

The Scientologists have front cult recruitment programs for detoxing 9/11 volunteers, for “rehabilitating” criminals, for getting addicts off drugs, and for running successful businesses. It’s only natural that they would have a weight loss front program too. It’s going to take a little while to develop, though, and for Alley to lose all that weight she put back on while she was battling her inner thetans. Several days in the sauna accompanied by blank-eyed minders feeding her nothing but vitamins ought to help get her back on track.

If this cult has anything to do with her new weight loss program, you’re better off spending $5 g to go to expensive all-inclusive weight loss spa for a week. It will be cheaper and ultimately much more rewarding, and you know ahead of time exactly how much it will cost.

Tara Reid hospitalized

header-1jeje.jpg

Despite my recent lapse in judgment which resulted in believing the Daily Mail’s bizarre Tara Reid surgery story… and then repeating it… I believe that dignity is completely overrated, so I will now bring you more news that depicts Tara Reid in a bad light. This time I’ve triple-checked it (apparently my former double-checking system was not nearly as foolproof as I’d thought). And most importantly, my number one oath as a writer is to report any and all negative Tara Reid news I may hear. Number two is to eat as much oatmeal as possible, and for similar reasons: they’re both good for the soul. Reid, who has been looking scary-skinny lately – collapsed in a Bali nightclub and was rushed to the hospital.

The ‘American Pie’ actress was enjoying a night out on the island of Bali when she lost her footing and injured herself. A source said: “She was having a couple a drinks and then all of a sudden she lost her footing.”

She was taken to a nearby hospital, where she was treated for cuts and bruises and she is now recovering at her luxurious hotel. The 32-year-old is in Bali promoting a new pajamas range with entrepreneur Peter Alexander. Earlier this month, Tara hosted a ‘Hookers Ball’ in Australia at Darwin’s Discovery nightclub. The club’s hospitality manager Guy Dunne said: “We thought Tara Reid would be a great choice for it. It was a kind of naughty night, like ‘pimps and prostitutes’. Tara was very enthusiastic to come and do it.”

[From Monsters & Critics]

Anyone who’s ever seen Tara Reid utter more than six words knows that she didn’t just “all of a sudden” lose her footing. She was have 38 drinks when she drunkenly fell over, losing her footing. Nineteen types of cocktails will do that to a 57 pound girl. Just when you think she can’t get any cheaper or tackier than hosting the Hooker’s Ball, she hosts the Hooker’s Ball and then stumbles around the greater part of the Southern Hemisphere for two weeks.

I have a big thing about not making fun of people’s bodies… although to be fair, my big thing is really about never calling anyone fat. So at the risk of being a bit unfair, Tara Reid REALLY needs to put on some weight. Since I don’t know the first thing about her, I’m in no position to call her anorexic… but I’m struggling to think of something else that could cause someone to become so gaunt so quickly. Tara has never been big, and has definitely gone through a few waif phases before, but she looks much worse to me here. The only reason I would say she probably isn’t anorexic is that she’s clearly very proud of her body, since she’s constantly flaunting it in unfortunate swimsuits and painfully tight jeans. My understanding of anorexics is that even when they’re gaunt, they normally think they’re still fat and thus hide their bodies. Those camel toe-inducing jeans certainly aren’t hiding anything. Tara, try putting some turkey into your mouth. It’ll let you drink more before you fall over.

Picture note by Jaybird: Here’s Tara on November 23rd 2007, and here she is on November 11th, 2006 – a year earlier. The comparison is pretty astounding, . Images thanks to WENN and PR Photos.

Carrie Underwood says food journaling is the key to her health

csh-034029.jpg

Carrie Underwood has slimmed down considerably since her days as an American Idol contestant. Carrie has admitted that she was aware of some of the negative things people said about her weight on the internet, and that she made the choice to slim down as a result.

Carrie Underwood recently shared some of her secrets for staying fit with People magazine: everything in moderation (except maybe cheese) with a lot of cardio. Carrie says when some American Idol viewers were candid in their online postings about her weight, she decided to slim down but didn’t change her diet or fitness routine radically to do so.

“I do work out, but not with a trainer,” she says. “I just do lots of cardio.” And yet, after a whirlwind year (which included lots of awards and a second CD, Carnival Ride), Carrie is in better shape than ever. A longtime vegetarian, she says she watches what she eats but also admits to a weakness for cheese. “I can eat a pound of it,” she says. “It’s a real problem.”

Carrie says she also keeps a snack tucked in her red carpet bags at all times. “I carry [whole-grain] Kashi bars everywhere.”

[From Great American Country]

Underwood also told people that she’s a bit obsessive when it comes to watching what she eats. The way she phrases it (using the word “obsessive) makes it sound like she has some food issues, however when she says she’s “obsessive” she’s referring to writing down everything she eats. Food journaling is a cornerstone of many well-regarded diet plans like Weight Watchers. It serves to remind you what you’ve eaten.

American Idol winner and US chart topper Carrie Underwood’s apparently has a great diet tip - and it involves a pen and paper! “I’m slightly obsessive-compulsive about what I eat, more than I should be. I write down everything I eat,” the 24-year-old singer tells Glamour magazine in its January issue. “I started doing it last year. And the last year is when I’ve gotten more healthy and lost weight.”

[From This Is Nottingham]

To be honest I’d never noticed anything about Carrie’s weight on American Idol. They’ve had a wide variety of body styles over the years, which has been refreshing to see. Simon Cowell’s nasty remarks about contestant’s weight weren’t so great, but it’s good that people of all shapes and sizes were succeeding on the show. There have been some rumblings that Underwood has gotten too thin. Compared to some of the shrinking stars we’ve seen in the last few years, she seems alright. Like anything, the issue is knowing when to stop. She seems to have maintained her current weight for a while now, and is definitely drop-dead gorgeous.

Picture note by Jaybird: Here’s Carrie at the 2005 Country Music Festival about three weeks after she won American Idol. I’m not sure what people were talking about in terms of her weight at the time, though she is definitely much thinner now. Lily Allen The Face Of Agent Provocateur

It’s amazing how quickly you’re willing to get your clothes off and star in a lingerie ad once you lose weight. Back in May, Lily Allen was lamenting her body issues on her blog, now she’s the ‘face’ of Agent Provocateur.

An insider said: “The owners of Agent Provocateur, Joe Corre and Serena Rees, are delighted. They feel her natural look will appeal to a lot of women. She’s in amazing shape since she lost the weight, and the pictures of her are absolutely incredible.”

news.com.au

Reports are that the newly svelte Lily has dropped from a UK size 12 to a size 8. She’s put her weight loss down to love (for boyfriend Ed Simons of the Chemical brothers) and also hypnosis.

Lily’s following in the footsteps of Kate Moss, Dita Von Teese and Maggie Gyllenhaal.

As an Agent, Lily has secured a rumoured six figure deal and a photo shoot, and I guess she also has an unlimited supply of underwear to keep her warm under her New Look clothing range.

Being paid, and professionally lit and airbrushed, is definitely a better way to flash your knickers than some others have demonstrated. I think we all know who I’m referring to by now.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Here are a bunch of pictures of Lilly from her myspace. She’s cute as hell and I love her attitude. She didn’t need to lose weight, either.
