Kiki Dunst sported the finger and a Carl Sagan book while on vacation in Hawaii. She paired a gauzy plaid top white a black bikini and sported white sunglasses. Before you call her a brain, Carl Sagan’s books are written so that average people can understand them and they’re pretty accessible. I read “Demon Haunted World” quite a few years back and I really like the late skeptic’s theories on religion and science. He uses logic to debunk myths and faulty rhetoric and I often use his baloney detection kit to evaluate information. (While I love celebrity gossip I’m also a bit of a geek, I must admit.)

That said, Kiki is looking fug as ever, she’s smoking a cigarette, and she sure wants people to know she’s reading Sagan. Dork.

As Chic Mommy detailed, Liz Hurley’s wedding to Indian-born Arun Nayar was over the top in England with an initial civil wedding at an castle followed by a week long of festivities in India, and another Indian wedding this Friday to cap it off. Hurley sent all the invited guests to her Indian wedding a dress code and set up a special shop for them at the Hilton in Mumbai so that they can dress according to standards. The men were told to wear turbans and long orange tunics and women should don hot pink saris.

She’s thought to be riding into her Indian wedding this Friday on an elephant, and Bollywood type dance numbers will entertain guests.

At their English wedding, Elton John walked Hurley down the aisle as her father is deceased, and gave a speech which left her new husband in tears. Hurley wore a Versace chiffon gown with a Chopard diamond tiara. (I read somewhere today that she ate one meal for a day for a month and snacked on veggies and vegetable shakes in order to lose weight, but I can’t find the link again.)

Hello! Magazine has 50 freaking pages of pictures from the Glouchester wedding in their upcoming issue, and will have scads more from the Indian leg of the bridezilla tour in the following issue. It doesn’t matter what it cost, they probably recouped most of it selling the pictures.

Robbie Williams has successfully completed 21 days of drug treatment at a secluded facility and is now back at home in LA. He was thought to be at the Meadows Center in Arizona, where Kate Moss was rehabbed after her cocaine scandal, but he was really at the Cottonwood de Tucson clinic, which is hidden away in the desert.

Williams’ spokesperson has confirmed that he is out of rehab. The story claims that he enjoyed “trivia, reading quiz books and looking up amazing facts online” while he was recovering, and that the counsellors at the clinic told him to keep his mind active.

Hello! Magazine has Robbie falling into a pit of prescription drug despair after the great success of his old boy band Take That without him. As Robbie’s career falters and has not reached the level of international success he was hoping for, his ex bandmates are doing well and that is said to have contributed to his depression. Some even accuse him of timing his rehab stay to coincide with Take That’s comeback:

One [music industry source] told Hello! “Rob is a very complex individual. He makes out he doesn’t care about anything - particularly the press - but this is a guy who goes online every day to look at the British papers to see what everybody is writing about him.

“He likes the guys as individuals, but as a band and as Take That he really can’t bear the success they’re having. In Robbie’s world it’s always about him and he sees their success as directly affecting the way people look at him and the fact it highlights the album’s failure.

“This turns the whole Take That story back into a Robbie Williams story. It spoils it for them and it brings it all back to him. This is exactly the sort of mixed bag of emotions Robbie is all about.”

The article goes on to say that all the members of Take That have wished Robbie well, but that they didn’t mention him in their acceptance speech for best single at this year’s Brit Awards. (Where Williams was only nominated for one award that he didn’t win.) Jason Orange of Take that said “We didn’t thank Robbie because it’s about his private situation. It’s not for us to comment… we wish him the best - we love him… He’s going to get through this. It’s sad for him and it’s sad for all of us.”

Take That’s new single “Shine,” the second from their album “Beautiful World,” is now number one on the UK singles charts. Their UK Tour of 29 dates sold out in just under three hours.

Meanwhile the Hello! article paints Robbie as a lonely guy who is deeply affected by criticism and the slump in his career.

People were dissing Robbie in the comments for being addicted to prescription medication, including Paxil, as if that was less hardcore than an illegal drugs addiction. Paxil is called Seroxat in the UK, and is known as a very difficult drug to wean off of with serious side effects for some. The guy was on a cocktail of all sorts of prescription drugs including sleeping pills and painkillers and they were clearly affecting him. Good for Robbie for taking care of himself. Maybe his career will pick up once he gets his head on straight.

There’s a controversy brewing over the way American Idol producers are handling the sexy photos of Antonella Barba that are plastered all over the gossip sites. Candidate Frenchie Davis was booted unceremoniously by officials more four years ago after they heard that she posed for nude photos for a paid porn site to “help pay for college.” Since Frenchie is a bigger boned African American woman, people are crying racist over the treatment she was afforded compared to the support offered to Barba.

I could be splitting hairs, but I think it is a bit different and has more to do with the nature of the photos than the physical characteristics of the contestants. Frenchie was paid for her topless photos, she knew what she was doing, and she probaby signed the rights over to the website. Antonella, however slutty her pictures, did not intend them to be for a wide audience. (There were some supposed Antonella Barba blowjob pictures, but these were exposed as another woman.) According to Antonella’s good friend and fellow Idol contestant, Amanda Coluccio, the sexy posed pictures were meant for “one person.” That’s up for debate since many of the pictures involve groups of people, but the fact remains that they were private photos and not paid photos for a porn site.

Frenchie, who is now starring on Broadway in “Rent,” says she doesn’t really think racism is at play but that there was a huge difference between the way she was treated and how producers are standing by Barba. She says she would appreciate some kind of acknowledgment of what she went through and an apology. African American rights groups are calling it racism, though, and are demanding an explanation from American Idol, which refuses to comment:

“We object to having one rule for black contestants and a different rule for white contestants who exhibit the same behavior,” said Najee Ali, community activist and founder of Project Islamic H.O.P.E. Davis said she is bewildered over what’s happened with Barba, 20, of Point Pleasant, New Jersey.

“I don’t necessarily think that (it’s racism), but I can certainly look at this and understand why people would draw that conclusion,” Davis said Tuesday from New York, hours before going on stage in the musical “Rent.”

“I’m not bashing `Idol’ or Antonella. She’s a beautiful girl and she’s young. I think it’s great that she didn’t have to go through what I went through,” said Davis, 27, who suggested that the show’s producers might have learned from how they treated her.

Davis would welcome a public apology from them as “a great start.” But she said she is owed more for “the manner in which I was humiliated and the manner in which Antonella was defended and protected by the same people who humiliated me.”

“Now they need to come to the table and see what we can do to make up” for her treatment, Davis said. She declined to say if she would seek a financial settlement or a record contract or other deal…

In a statement Tuesday, Fox said, “We have never discussed the specifics of why Ms. Davis was eliminated, nor will we now.” The network said it had “no desire to revisit history and sully the reputation of Ms. Davis. She was removed from the show over four years ago and has gone on to a successful performing career.” That achievement has been a salve, of sorts, for Davis.

And of course Rosie O’Donnell has weighed in on the controversy. Despite taking a week of pressure from Asian advocacy groups to get Rosie to apologize for her own unnecessary and racist comments, she is more than willing to call American Idol producers racist and weightist for booting Frenchie while giving Antonella all the chance in the world.

Indeed Antonella is getting more chances than she normallly would without those pictures. She remains in the competition despite mediocre performances.

Spiderman 3 is out on May 7, 2007, and from the looks of these screenshots, they did a great job making one of the villians, Venom, look scary as anything. This looks excellent and I can’t wait to see it. (I love when Tobey says “hate those things,” but I won’t reveal much more in case you’re holding out for when it’s in theaters.) I’m not much of an action movie fan but the first two Spiderman films did not dissapoint.

Hunky Prince William, 24, might get married soon to his longterm girlfriend Kate Middleton, 25. It sounds like speculation to me, but the news reached British Parliament and lawmakers were discussing the marriage plans of William, second in line to the throne behind his father Charles.

British royal photographer Arthur Edwards was speaking to The House of Commons select committee about a recent intrusion of Ms. Middleton’s privacy. She was hounded relentlessly by paparazzi around her 25th birthday in January, and MPs want to work on a new privacy law that will protect royals and celebrities.

Photographer Edwards said “She’s in love with Prince William. I’m sure one day they’ll get married.”

Just because a friend of the family thinks it will happend doesn’t mean it’s imminent, though. William himself has said he has no intention of getting married until he is 28 or 30, and it is thought that he will finish his duties with the Armed Forces first. He has two more years to serve. A spokesperson for the royal family has countered that he has no plans to get engaged.

Kate, an assistant accessories buyer at a High Street department store, was dating another guy when she lived in a student home with William in 2001. They both attended St Andrews University. They started to date in secret in late 2003 and their romance went public in 2004 when they took a ski trip together.

Kate lives in an apartment in London’s Chelsea neighborhood, where William visits her on the weekends. They also have weekday date nights on Thursday night, as she has off from work every Friday. William and Kate will have a long distance relationship when he takes a six month training course in Dorset in Southern England. Prince Harry will join his regiment in Iraq in May of this year although it is unclear how long he will stay. Britian has announced a phased withdrawl of troops that is likely to ensure that William will not be deployed to Iraq.

British news outlets were all over Kate and William’s recent appearance together at the Six Nations Rugby Tournament between England and Italy, which is where these pictures were taken.

Angelina Jolie has sort-of been fast tracked through the Vietnamese adoption system, but not really. Officials there say she applied to adopt a four year old boy she met at the Tam Binh orphanage during her visit with Brad to a suburb of Ho Chi Minh City back in November. She filed the papers three months ago, and they were approved by the Vietnam’s top adoption agency and sent to their justice department for review. The head of the adoption agency is the person who originally confirmed that Angelina had applied to adopt a child.

Now Vu Duc Long, the agency director who confirmed Angelina’s adoption, says the process is only going to be a month shorter for her than it normally would take:

HOLLYWOOD movie star Angelina Jolie is set to adopt a Vietnamese boy in May after being fast-tracked through the system, the nation’s top adoption official said today.

The process is being speeded up because Jolie had already chosen the child on a previous visit to an orphanage on the outskirts of the southern business hub of Ho Chi Minh City, the official said.

“She might receive her adoptive child in three months, one month earlier than the normal timeframe for an adoption,” said Vu Duc Long, the head of the justice ministry’s international child adoption department in Hanoi.

“He is between four and five and now stays at the Tam Binh orphanage,” he said.

Jolie filed the first application papers three months ago.

During last November’s Thanksgiving holiday, Jolie and her partner, fellow screen idol Brad Pitt, travelled to Ho Chi Minh, the communist state’s largest city, and spent several hours playing with children in the orphanage.

Angelina’s paperwork now just needs another seal from the justice department in Ho Chi Minh City before it is sent to the orphanage.

Maddox and Zahara were just babies when Angelina adopted them, so it’s nice to hear that she and Brad are adopting a slightly older child. There was a story I reported from the NY Post that Angelina was getting “special favors” in her adoption because she was filing as single, but since she’s not married people pointed out to me that she doesn’t have any other box to check. It seems like Page Six always trashes her, and was just looking for an excuse.

There was a story in Star Magazine in mid February that Tom Cruise was annoyed that Katie Holmes was going to take Suri with her on a three month film shoot in Louisiana for the comedy Mad Money with Queen Latifah and Diane Keaton. Tom was said to be planning to send Scientology minders to babysit Katie as well as visit her as often as possible. The story at that time was that Tom couldn’t manage to be there with Katie throughout the entire film shoot as he had to run the United Artists studio back in LA.

Page Six reports today that Tom has gotten rid of any pretense of needing to spend time apart from his fresh-faced wife and is now planning on staying the entire time with her while she makes the film.

Holmes is due to start shooting “Mad Money” - a comedy about three women who plan to steal millions from the Federal Reserve and also starring Diane Keaton and Queen Latifah - in Shreveport, La., in the next month or so. One insider said, “Tom has called producers and told them he will be on set every day.

“He wants to observe what’s going on and will probably help Katie out.” The couple will likely bring their infant daughter, Suri, along as well.

Jim Acheson, one of the movie’s producers, told Page Six, “I don’t know if that’s the case, so I can’t confirm. We are happy to have both Katie and Tom on set.”

A rep for Cruise and Holmes wasn’t available for comment.

The insider added, “Katie’s agent, Hylda Queally [at CAA], chose this role for her because it is a female buddy movie. There is no love interest and she wouldn’t be kissing anyone or have a sex scene.”

Ever since Katie debuted her new face at Paris fashion week the gossip rags have been reporting that Katie is breaking away from Tom, and that she has turned from a Stepford wife into a nag. She does seem to have come onto her own since marrying Tom, and to have regained some of her old sparkle. I don’t find it surprising that Tom wants to make sure she behaves herself while she is away working. There were also rumblings that Tom rejected many scripts sent to Katie, ostensibly because they involved love scenes. This may be the reason she’s not doing the Batman sequel, although that’s just speculation. She is rumored to be replaced by Rachel McAdams.

Anna Nicole was buried in a gown that would be at home on a Barbie doll. I got a lot of heat for calling her funeral, which featured a pink velvet covering on her casket festooned with feathers and ribbons, “tacky.” (I took it back and admitted to it so don’t bash me on that same point again please.) This dress isn’t tacky, it just looks like it’s made for a young girl, which was to her taste. She was filmed speaking baby-talk, so that’s probably what she was into. People commented that it’s what she wanted and that it’s a funeral, after all. I get your point and am contrite. (I’m not a hypocrite, though, and I didn’t like her when she was alive and my opinion hasn’t changed now that she died. I do hope she rests in peace and no one deserves to die young.)

Anna Nicole Smith’s funeral was modeled after a wedding, right down to her ball gown.

“Every stitch was a labor of love,” says Beverly Hills designer Pol’ Atteu, who crafted the dress that Smith wore for her burial on March 2. “My tears are all over that dress.”

The pink and ivory gown (with a matching tiara) was made of French lace, pearls and Swarovski crystals and took a day and a half to make.

The heart design and embroidered silk flowers over the bust symbolize Smith’s devastation over son Daniel’s death, “She died of a broken heart.”

And O.J. Simpson wants everyone to know that he, too, slept with Anna Nicole. According to a guy named Norm Pardo, who is ostensibly O.J.’s buddy since he took a lot of video of him, the double-muderer claimed he slept with Anna back in 1994 when they were filming Naked Gun 331/3 together. Of course O.J. had to throw his hat into the ring for paternity of Dannielynn, and supposedly said he has “slow-moving” sperm so she could be his. He then made a completely tasteless joke saying that if Dannielynn was his that Ron Goldman (the father of the young man he murdered) would try to sieze her money. That’s great, O.J. You should be in jail awaiting appeal now, so STFU. Be grateful you breathe fresh air every day.
