Farrah Fawcett seeking alternative cancer treatments in Germany

top-csh-015042.jpg

Farrah Fawcett’s cancer has returned, but she’s apparently stayed in pretty good health, everything considered. The actress is currently seeking alternative treatments in Germany, and is taping everything she’s doing for a possible documentary. The producer of her reality show “Chasing Farrah,” Craig Nevius, is currently with Fawcett overseas, and talked about the actress’s plans.

“‘She was declared 100 percent cancer free and then it came back,’ he says. ‘She was discouraged by the treatments she got here. The fact that it recurred after all that she went through was heartbreaking.’ He adds: ‘She has been in Germany. That’s true. She’s getting alternative treatments not allowed in the U.S.’

“Fawcett was originally diagnosed with anal cancer in September 2006. After undergoing chemotherapy and radiation treatments, she was declared cancer free by her doctors on Feb. 2, her 60th birthday. However, in May, doctors discovered that the cancer had returned. A malignant polyp, smaller than a pea, was found during a routine three-month checkup.

“The German magazine Bunte first reported that the actress is undergoing chemotherapy in the University Clinic in Frankfurt, combining the treatments with alternative healing methods in Bad Wiessee, in southern Germany. Contacted by PEOPLE, Ricarda Wessinghagen, a spokeswoman for the hospital, said: ‘I can confirm that Farrah Fawcett was here and was treated here, but I have no more information.’

“Nevius declined to reveal the nature of the treatment in Germany, but did say, ‘She’s been documenting everything in a video diary’ for ‘what could be a very important documentary.’”

I’m a big fan of alternative and complimentary medicine, though I think traditional medicine is still the best place to start. But in Fawcett’s situation, she’s already gone that route and wasn’t satisfied. I have a lot of respect for being open to other ideas and other forms of treatment. Hopefully Farrah will have kind of positive experience, even if she does eventually decide to go a more traditional route.

Picture Note by Jaybird: Farrah’s been laying kind of low lately, so there aren’t a lot of recent pictures. Good Celebrity: Shakira donates $40 million to relief fund

top-sgg-003024.jpg

I’ve only been doing this “Good Celebrity” thing for a week or two now, and there were a few days I forgot about it and all, but Shakira is already being nominated for the “Good Celebrity” hall of fame. I freaking love her now. Why? Because she started charitable foundation, Latin America in Solidarity Action, that has donated $40 million to aid victims of a hurricane in Nicaragua and an earthquake in Peru. And she created the foundation with the amazing writer Gabriel Garcia Marquez.

“A charitable foundation set up by Colombian pop star Shakira has donated $40 million (£19.6 million) to help victims of natural disasters. The money will go towards repairing damage caused by an earthquake in Peru and a hurricane in Nicaragua.

“A further $5 million (£2.46 million) will be spent on health and education in four Latin American countries. The singer made the announcement at a New York summit on climate change organised by ex-President Bill Clinton.

“Shakira, who has sold more than 50 million albums worldwide, will also host a discussion on youth activism at the Clinton Global Initiative on Saturday. Her foundation, Latin America in Solidarity Action, was set up with fellow Colombian and Nobel Prize laureate Gabriel Garcia Marquez, in a bid to combat the deaths of children.

“Shakira also fronts a charity to help children who are victims of violence.”

[From the BBC]

Um, what doesn’t Shakira do that’s not awesome? I can’t think of anything. I used to be kind of so-so on her music, but now I’ve decided that everything she touches turns to gold, and thus her music is perfection too. Plus she’s smart, spunky, and takes college courses in her spare time. And the other day, I was walking by this cliff, and there was a bus full of school children teetering precariously, about to fall off, and Shakira came along with her magic lasso of awesomeness, tied it around the bus, and whisked them off to safety. Then she delivered three babies and planted some trees in the just-demolished forest. This is all completely true; I saw it with my own, non-exaggerating eyes. Shakira = Wonder Woman.

Rumer Willis’s hair thinks it’s 1987

Some days, I sit around and think to myself, “Man, I wish it were 1987. Kindergarten was awesome, my world was simple, and people had deliberately ugly hair.” The nostalgia would run pretty deep, so you can imagine my excitement when I saw the above picture of Rumor Willis. The celbuspawn of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis gets teased a lot for her looks, which I’m trying to rise above. I try my best not to call fat people fat or ugly people ugly. If you’re gorgeous, I might call you a troll, or if you’re tall I might call you shorty, because it’s clearly not true and you know I’m joking. So this credo makes it a little hard for me to figure out what to say about the above photograph, except that Rumor Willis clearly thinks 1987 had it going on.

“Rumer Willis liked the wig she’s been wearing in her latest movie so much that she had her hair dyed platinum blonde for real. Showing off the ‘do at Thursday’s opening of the James Perse store in Beverly Hills, the 19-year-old daughter of Demi Moore and Bruce Willis and stepdad Ashton Kutcher told PEOPLE that her new look jolted her folks, as well as her siblings, Scout, 16, and Tallulah, 13.

“‘I came home and my parents were really shocked when I walked in the house,’ she says. ‘My sisters looked at me like, ‘What? Your hair!’ But everyone, my parents, loved it.’ That was a relief. The makeover – by Tracey Cunningham at the Neil George Salon in Beverly Hills (‘She’s amazing’, Willis says) – required seven hours to complete.

“‘Honestly, it just took a long time. I got there at like 1 [p.m.], and I didn’t leave until 8 p.m. I have really dark hair, so it took a long time, but it didn’t really hurt,’ she says. ;I got the idea because the movie I just finished, I was wearing a blonde wig, so I saw myself like that. And I just went for it.’

“The movie comedy, ‘I Know What Boys Like,’ was previously called ‘House Bunny.’ Says Willis: ‘I always find that whenever I’m doing something big in my life, I want to change the hair.’”

[From People]

Rumor’s been rocking the short look for a while. Due to her… [holds insults back] unique jaw structure, I think she looked better with longer hair. It de-emphasized the round and yet pointiness of the jaw. I generally think everyone looks best when they stick with some shade of their natural color. It just goes better with most people’s coloring. But to each his own… I want credit for all the restraint I just showed.

Jacko didn’t get married

top-spx-002317.jpg

Apparently people were all up in a tizzy saying Michael Jackson was getting married. To a woman. A genetically original woman. I didn’t hear anything about said tizzy, but it was big enough to require Jacko’s people to release an official statement. Apparently it’s not true. Though he’s such a weird guy and there’s so much mystery surrounding him that I wouldn’t rule anything out. He probably did get married, it was just to a coffee maker or other random household appliance instead of a woman.

“Michael Jackson and his kids remain the only ones donning the veils in the family. The singer’s rep issued a firm denial Thursday in response to a sudden flurry of reports stating that the self-proclaimed King of Pop had swapped vows with his children’s nanny, Grace Rwaramba, a frequent fixture in the courtroom during his trial on child-molestation charges in 2005.

“‘Wide spreading reports regarding Michael Jackson being married are not true,’ publicist and resident rumor-buster Raymone Bain said in a statement to E! News. ‘Documents stating otherwise are a hoax.’

“Earlier Thursday, the National Enquirer’s Website quoted a source supposedly close to the pair who said, ‘Grace was happy to go along with it. She’s always been devoted to Michael and has raised the kids since the day they were born. Michael knew she’d make a perfect stepmother.’
“The tabloid also said that it had obtained a real estate document on which Jackson referred to himself as a ‘married man.’”

[From E! News]

How does Michael Jackson keep getting so many ladies? He looks like a lady! Michael’s got some serious financial worries. He’s being sued by just about every business in America, and a least three quarters of the American public. I’m guessing that – if he did marry the kids’ nanny – he just did it to save money since he wouldn’t have to pay her a salary anymore. But let’s be honest, being the King of Pop’s wife has its advantages. You always have access to blankets when you’re cold – just reach over and pull one off a random kid. You have unlimited Jesus Juice. All the monkeys you can handle. And the guy will never bother you for sex at three in the morning. In fact you probably won’t even have to share a bed with him. Sounds like an ideal marriage to me. Especially the monkeys.
