Ethan Hawke is about to become a father for the third time. The “Training Day” star has two children with ex-wife Uma Thurman, and he is expecting a third with Ryan Shawhughes, 27, whom he met when she worked as a nanny for his family back when he was with Uma. It is unclear whether the two are living together or engaged at this point, but Ethan’s camp says the actor is pleased at the news of his impending fatherhood:

“I can confirm and they are thrilled,” says Hawke’s rep Mara Buxbaum. “No further details will be made available.”

In the fallout after Uma and Ethan’s split, there were rumors that Hawke was unfaithful, but neither spoke about it publicly. Ethan only had this to say on the couple’s split in a 2006 interview:

“To be honest, [fame] was an undue pressure on my marriage. I didn’t like being famous when I was single, and what it did to my celebrity status to be married to another famous person was a huge pressure — one I didn’t enjoy. And it had nothing to do with her. Nothing to do with her,” Hawke says.

Uma has been linked to a handful of rich suitors since then, but Ethan’s love life has remained very private. In fact, there is only one photo of Ethan and Ryan together, and it was taken in December 2007 as they dined in a restaurant in Manhattan. Ryan bears more than a passing resemblance to Uma. The NY Daily News’ Gatecrasher column says keeping the relationship secret for so long was a ploy to protect Ethan’s image.

“They seem to be trying to rewrite history by saying they waited a whole year, so they could look innocent when word that they were together finally got out,” an “insider” tells the mag.

“He [Ethan] was terrified, because he knew if Uma found out he was with their nanny, she’d blow up and the divorce would get nasty when it had been going relatively well.”

While I don’t agree with cheating on a spouse—especially with a nanny—it seems as though both Ethan and Uma have moved on with their lives and manage to co-parent their kids quite nicely these days. They even schedule movie shoots around their children’s needs, and try to accommodate each other’s careers. My guess is that Uma’s fans and sympathizers will be a lot more offended and upset by this news than she will. Uma seems to be doing quite well without Ethan.

I missed have missed a memo stating that Maggie Gyllenhaal is now the go-to girl for sex appeal. First, she’s the spokesmodel for Agent Provocateur Lingerie, and now the “Stranger Than Fiction” star is appearing in a short film urging Hollywood producers to start negotiating an end to the WGA Strike that has Hollywood in a strangle hold. While many other celebs, including Felicity Huffman, Conan O’Brien and Jenna Fischer, have been making videos to support the Writer’s Guild Association, Maggie is taking it a step further with a black-and-white, porn-inspired video that hints at some girl-on-girl-on-girl action:

MAGGIE GYLLENHAAL has taken part in a spoof lesbian orgy, as part of a video campaign supporting the Writer’s Guild Association’s strike.

In the clip, the Secretary star turns up to a hotel room to meet a man only to find two other beauties waiting to see the SAME fella. The man, called AMPiTePa - short for Alliance of Motion Picture and Television Producers - has stood them all up.

After a period of frustration, Maggie takes a swig from her glass of wine and says: “We don’t need him. We’ve got everything we need right here. Girls - you want to make an interim agreement?”

The other ladies join her on the bed, but, as things start to get interesting, the lights fade and the film ends with a sexy pizza delivery girl entering the bedroom.

The clip is actually well written and pretty clever. “Is it too much to ask to be treated fairly? It’s not like we’re asking for anything crazy,” Maggie says to the other girls in the clip. “The last time I went on a date with AMPiTePa, he said he didn’t want to waste his money tipping a waiter 20 percent because he didn’t think the restaurant business was going to pan out.” This, of course, is a shot at the producers’ cutting WGA members out of residuals for Internet viewings.

I doubt the film will do much to kick start negotiations between the two sides at this point. Especially since it refers to the fictional AMPiTePa as “arrogant,” and likens him to a bad tipper. And seriously—who decided Maggie Gyllenhaal was sexy?

Yesterday commentors over at US Weekly were overwhelmingly critical of a new cover story about Heath Ledger’s supposed past drug use. They claim to have an exclusive about how the recently-deceased up and coming A-list actor decided not to go to rehab in 2006. As if that had anything to do with his death nearly two years later, in which no illegal drugs or even alcohol was found in his apartment. Multiple sources have said that Heath only drank nonalcoholic beverages around them in the months leading up to his death, and the autopsy was inconclusive, but showed that he had pneumonia. Sources tell TMZ (who never hesitate to print negative news when they get their grubby hands on it, so this seems plausible) that preliminary toxicology reports are inconclusive and point to a natural or accidental cause of death.

Now there’s supposedly a new video showing Heath snorting coke confessing to being a habitual pot smoker for 20 years while another man on the tape snorts something. It was taken on January 29, 2006, and Heath mentioned his baby daughter by name and says he’s “going to get so much shit from his girlfriend.” This suggests to me that it was a rare occasion when he did cocaine he was just out at a party and felt guilty about it. (Update: The NY Daily News’ story about the tape clears up the misconception in Page Six’s report that Heath was actually shown snorting something - he wasn’t) . Entertainment Tonight and The Insider bought the video, shot at the Chateau Marmot, for $200,000. They sent a warning to other outlets not to publish it, but Page Six notes that Entertainment Tonight is still deciding whether to air it or not.

How many of us have done illegal drugs in the past, including cocaine? If you keeled over tomorrow for some other reason, how fair would it be if all people talked about was how you did drugs a few years back?

It’s possible that Heath did die from some kind of drug-related cause, either prescription or illegal, but what good does it do to speculate about that just a week after he died? And how flimsy is this “evidence” from nearly two years ago? We don’t have any new information about his death yet, except for testimonials and heartfelt wishes that keep pouring in from people who knew him. It just doesn’t seem fair to bring this up.

There are stories that Heath had a drug problem and that Michelle wanted him to get tested before he had visits with Matilda. Those reports originated in the Daily Mail, which is notorious for making shit up entirely. It could be true, but what kind of evidence do we have other than a two year old video and some hearsay?

Thanks to commentors for pointing out that last week on “The Soup” host Joel McHale showed a picture of Heath and said “Stop digging through the dirt, weasels. A talented decent guy is gone and our thoughts go to those who knew him.” Here’s a link to the video.

Update: Entertainment Tonight reports that they will not run the video of Heath “Out of respect for Heath Ledger’s family.”

According to the many, many articles about this available today, Britney’s family and her new psychiatrist have put her on a psychiatric hold for 72 hours at UCLA medical center. She was admitted to the hospital at 1:30 am this morning. This was done after she was witnessed driving erratically around her neighborhood, having stayed up for over a day and refusing to take her medication.

Britney has reportedly been undergoing treatment for bipolar disorder. There were rumors yesterday that she attempted suicide, but TMZ and The LA Times report that those rumors are false and that “it was apparent that the operation had been carefully planned over a period of time.”

The route to the hospital was blocked off to all paparazzi vehicles and The LA Times says that “The line of emergency vehicles stretched longer than a football field.”

Britney’s mother, her friend Sam Lufti, her psychiatrist, her boyfriend Adnan Ghalib and her assistant/faux cousin Alli Sims were all at the house when she was escorted away.

TMZ has more details of the incident, and says that Britney wasn’t resistant to the intervention, which was planned ahead of time and managed to shield Britney from photographers at a vulnerable time:

TMZ has learned the plan to get Britney into UCLA Medical Center had been hatched for days — it was aborted last night, but executed just minutes ago. And we’re told the plan was so intricate the FAA had cleared airspace in route to the hospital.

Back at her house, Britney’s psychiatrist told her she was going to the hospital. Her response was, “Is something wrong?” She was not resistant. She made hot chocolate and waited before paramedics arrived and placed her on a gurney.

We’re told the psychiatrist felt her condition had deteriorated. Britney had not slept since Saturday — a day and half longer than she stayed up in recent memory.

The reason she’s at UCLA is her new treating psychiatrist practices out of that medical center.

We’re told during her initial 72-hour stay she cannot be forced to take medication against her will. If, however, she refuses to take meds, the plan is for the the psych to go to court and have Britney held for an additional 14 days, during which time he can administer proper medications.

And get this ironic twist — Lynne Spears and Adnan drove to the Medical Center in the same car. A source tells us when Lynne found out Britney was being committed, she blamed it on Sam and was extremely agitated. When Brit heard that, she screamed to her mother, “Shut the hell up.”

Britney’s last hospitalization was on January 3 following a standoff with police when she refused to handover her youngest son for a scheduled visit with his father. She has since lost all visitation rights with her two boys and is only permitted to speak to them over the phone.

Britney is clearly affected by the crush of paparazzi who document her every move when she leaves the house. She has been behaving oddly and speaking in a British accent, and if you watch the videos of her interacting with photographers a lot of them are British, including her boyfriend Adnan Ghalib. There have been theories that she suffers from a type of “Stockholm Syndrome,” which is a psychological disorder that occurs when kidnap victims start to identify with their captors.

When you watch the videos of the paparazzi who surround Britney, you can see how it might be an environment that would make someone lose touch with reality. I’m not placing any blame here, she courts the press too and she’s clearly unstable, but this is a very disturbed person who has been exhibiting out of control behavior for a while. It seems she would have a much better chance at recovery if she could start over in another country or a more remote location where she can get some peace and quiet. A hospital in California where her every move will be leaked to the press is a start, but it doesn’t seem like enough for her at this point.

Paris Hilton has popped into a lesbian bar on Sunset Boulevard twice in the past month, most recently with her friend Brittny Gastineau. Paris is rumored to be bisexual, and there were some suggestive photos leaked from her hacked blackberry in early 2005 of her kissing a gorgeous female MTV VJ from South America.

Paris Hilton and her House of Wax co-star Elisha Cuthbert have recently renewed their friendship and were supposedly spotted full-on making out at club Tenjune on Tuesday night in NY. Were they just fooling around for publicity or was it something more?

Paris Hilton’s film The Hottie and The Nottie comes out in theaters on February 8th. Surely her PDA with Elisha was honest and wasn’t meant for self promotion.

On New Year’s eve Paris was photographed kissing an unknown woman, also at a nightclub.

Kate Hudson chose an unfortunate cobalt blue dress with a giant asymmetric ruffle for the premiere of her new romantic comedy Fool’s Gold. Her co-star Matthew McConaughey’s girlfriend, Camilla Alves, is over three months pregnant and rocked a short black dress with feathers at the hemline that made her look less pregnant than Kate Hudson did.

Kate’s dress looks like it’s gathering at stomach, creating the illusion that she has a bump when she might not. What is with that dress and her matronly up-do? Maybe the outfit looked better on the runway. It was very windy that night and that must have thrown off the look she was going for. Alves’ was seen laughing as she tried to keep the wind from blowing her skirt up, and Hudson also took the windy weather in stride, laughing and trying to keep her coat on.

When I first saw these pictures I thought Kate was pregnant, but this is a conclusion I often jump to when a celebrity wears an unflattering dress. Looking at other images, she doesn’t look quite as pregnant and could be the victim of an overzealous stylist. It’s interesting to note that she also wore a loose dress to the SAG Awards.

Fool’s Gold is out in the US on February 8. It an adventure romance about a divorced couple in search of treasure. Here’s the trailer:

Who knew Bart Simpson was so religious? So pious? So into volcano aliens? Well it turns out Bart is kinda neutral on the whole thing; but his voice, lent to him by actress Nancy Cartwright, is one of Scientology’s biggest donors. She even out donates Scientology golden son Tom Cruise - giving double what Tommy gave. And in Scientology, dollars equals devotion. So Nancy clearly loves Xenu twice as much as Tom - even though she doesn’t get close to half the attention. According to Page Six - which got a hold of “Impact,” the Scientology magazine put out by the group - Nancy Cartwright donated $10 million to the church’s Global Salvage effort.

Surprisingly, Nancy, 50, forked over twice as much as the Scientology’s most prominent member, Tom Cruise, who only gave $5 million in an installment plan. In 2004, the 46-year-old Lions for Lambs actor was awarded a Platinum Meritorious Award for a $2.5 million gift. Two years later, he doled out another $2.5 million, for which the International Association of Scientologists kicked him up to Diamond Meritorious awardee.

Recent Scientology publications reveal that a host of A-list Scientologists were honored for their generosity at a black-tie awards ceremony at the church’s headquarters in Clearwater, Fla., last summer. PageSix.com obtained copies of Impact magazine, which feature images of the various gold trophies, crystal statuettes and plaques “awarded to members who have donated” the respective amounts of money.

The Simpsons star (above) appears in a photo at the event with fellow Patron Laureate Awardees Steve Brackell and Jack and Lucy Murphy, as well as Church of Scientology leader David Miscavige. Kirstie Alley matched Tom’s donation, but fellow actors John Travolta and wife Kelly Preston donated just a million each. Former Mrs. Elvis, Priscilla Presley, kicked in a relatively paltry $50,000.

Who knew Priscilla Presley was so cheap? She probably had to save some money for some more cheek implants. The Global Salvage effort that Nancy Cartwright donated to sounds like a worthy cause, right? It’s got a pretty important sounding title - who wouldn’t want to salvage things from the globe? Wait, what? Yeah it sounds like a really worth cause with an important name, but the Global Salvage effort’s whole purpose is to “de-aberrate” Earth. Don’t you love that crazy Scientology lingo? Essentially the point is to rid the planet of psychology and all “aberrant” behavior. That sounds like a really bad plan to me. Think how many crazies would be running amuck. Think how many Scientologists could use a really good analyst. Can you imagine what Tom Cruse might be like if he had the benefit of a good shrink twice a week? That’s right, Oprah’s furniture would still be in good working order.

The inquest into the death of Anna Nicole Smith’s son Daniel has resumed. Though he died sixteen months ago, the inquest has been plagued by delays. The essential point is to determine how Daniel Smith died and if anyone was responsible for his death. His autopsy blamed a fatal combination of prescription drugs. However the inquest’s purpose is to figure out if it was accidental, suicidal, or if someone killed Daniel. A lot of suspicion has fallen on creepy Howard K. Stern, Anna’s “partner” - though it seems that they were likely never romantically involved. After Anna died last spring, the inquest was put on hold again. However they’ve been working at a steady pace the last few days, and have taken testimony from several of Anna’s friends.

Several of Anna’s associates have described Daniel as a boy who was painfully shy and somewhat embarrassed by his mother.

Ford Shelley, the son-in-law of G. Ben Thompson, a former boyfriend of the reality star and the developer who owned the Nassau home Smith and Howard K. Stern resided in the months leading up to her death, told the Coroner’s Court that the 20-year-old boy was a “brilliant” child who had for years been “living in a shell” as a result of his mother’s overshadowing fame and larger-than-life public persona.

“He wanted to break free,” Shelley said. “He loved his mother but didn’t want to be known as her son.”

Shelly denied that Daniel could have had a drug problem, noting that he “couldn’t even hold his liquor” and was “afraid of his own shadow.” Shelly noted that after Daniel died, he saw Howard K Stern find two white pills in the pockets of a pair of Daniel’s pants - which Stern quickly flushed down the toilet. Shelly said that he knew Daniel had recently broken up with his girlfriend and had a history of serious depression, but that he did not think he was suicidal. However the director of the medical examiner’s office in Miami-Dade County (where Daniel’s toxicology tests were performed) said it was likely an “intentional ingestion” due to the sheer quantity of drugs.

While eight different drugs, a combination of antidepressants and stimulants, were found in Daniel’s body at the time of his death, “clearly the methadone was the key in understanding this death. But for the methadone, he would not have died.”

[Dr. William Lee] Hern further claimed that, while he could not know for certain whether he did so deliberately or unintentionally, the large amount of drugs taken by Daniel in such a short amount of time—a onetime dosage of four pills rather than one, possibly diluted in a drink—lent itself to “a high degree of probability” that the overdose of drugs was “an intentional ingestion.”

“Based on the amount in the stomach, it was not an attempt to get high,” he said. “It was enough to kill him, with some left over unabsorbed. If what was in his blood hadn’t killed him, the remainder would have continued its toxic effect.”

I never though Daniel’s death was accidental, it was just a matter of speculating whether he killed himself or Howard K Stern did it. Whenever I considered the possibility of suicide, I couldn’t help but think about the timing. When you’re 20 years old, an only child, and admittedly very close to your needy mother, it must be incredibly bizarre for her to suddenly have a brand new baby girl and be shaking up with an evil guy. I thought Daniel might have been suicidal depressed because he perhaps thought he didn’t matter to his mother as much as he used to. I would think a lot of things were changing in his life, and that’d have to be a shock to the system. It never occurred to me that he obviously had his own life and own issues, and breaking up with a girlfriend can be really hard - especially when you’re just 20 years old. It can feel like the world is ending.

The issue of the methadone still remains incredibly suspicious, considering it played a role in Anna’s death a few months later. Being a lawyer, you’d think that if Howard K Stern were involved in some way, he’d be smart enough not to use methadone twice. But he’s never struck me as a particularly intelligent fellow, at least to hear him speak in interviews. So at this point we know that Daniel Smith’s death was caused by an “intentional ingestion” of drugs. What remains to be ruled is whether foul play was involved.

Earlier today I was duped into reporting a story by Page Six that the “Heath Ledger Drug Tape,” taken in January, 2006, at a party at the Chateau Marmot, actually showed Heath snorting cocaine. The video was purchased by Entertainment Tonight and the Insider for $200,000 and they sent out notices to other outlets warning them not to show segments from the tape or risk a lawsuit. Ultimately Entertainment Tonight made the wise decision not to air the tape after immense public pressure.

Page Six reported:

In the video, Heath is shown talking while at a private party after sniffing a cocaine-like substance off a table with a rolled up bill in his hand. As he speaks, his face noticeably twitches.

According to the NY Daily News, it is someone else on the tape, not Heath, shown snorting something. I noted in the earlier article that it hardly seemed fair to dig up this crap from nearly two years before his death and it turns out that he wasn’t even seen using drugs on the tape. The video may still air on an Australian channel despite widespread opinion that it is not appropriate to show it to the public.

In the video, Heath mentioned that he shouldn’t be at the party because his wife and baby were upstairs in another room and said “I’m going to get serious s–t from my girlfriend. We just had a baby three months ago.” He also supposedly said “I used to smoke five joints a day for 20 years.”

So not only was Page Six wrong about the video, they’re now repeating the claim in their latest column that the video shows Heath doing coke, and reporting that he was some big time drug user according to a source. I would not put it past them to make that shit up or to dig up any old person that would make a statement incriminating him.

In November, 2005 Heath wrote a letter to the Post admonishing Page Six for revealing the location of his new brownstone in Brooklyn. He said “Page Six’s revealing our whereabouts could possibly put our child in danger.” Now they’re not hesitating to report false information about that “drug video” and to damage his reputation after his death.

I have never understood what the big deal is with Justin Timberlake. I think he’s surprisingly talented, but what the hell is so irresistibly sexy about him? It seems like he’s considered the ultimate celebrity to date. He’s cute, but I wouldn’t exactly call him the cat’s meow. He’s more like that plaintive cry they make when they see a bird at the window. It’s kinda cute, but entertaining for only so long. When Justin first started dating Jessica Biel, everyone seemed to act like she was so lucky to get to be with him. She’s gorgeous! He’s certainly a bigger celebrity, but it’s not like an upside down Beauty & the Beat situation. But apparently Justin didn’t realize how lucky he was. According to Star, he recently cheated on Jessica with Kate Hudson. Jessica was in England filming her new movie “Easy Virtue.” Indeed.

JT flew VIP class on Virgin Atlantic Airways and was first off the plane when it arrived at Heathrow Airport. He dashed to a waiting Range Rover for the 30-mile, 110-mph trip to 16th-century Englefield House, where Jess is working on the romantic comedy Easy Virtue. And he arrived not a moment too soon. Jessica, 25, was furious, insiders tell Star, when she got wind of the reports that he had hooked up with Kate Hudson at Hollywood club Villa on Jan. 11.

…Justin spent an evening flirting with Kate, 28. While reps deny the hookup, an eyewitness said, “They seemed to be so into each other.” By the end of the evening, Justin was “full-on kissing her. They barely came up for air!” That’s all Jessica need to hear to go ballistic.

According to Star, Jessica claimed she couldn’t trust Justin. Shocking. Several people on the movie set said the reunion seemed stiff and uncomfortable, and Jessica wasn’t exactly throwing herself back into Justin’s arms. The mag goes on to say that Justin wined and dinned Jessica and won his way back into her heart in less than 36 hours.

“After dinner, Justin “waited until he was in the back of his Range Rover, then cupped her face in his hand,” an eyewitness reveals. “Jessica brushed the hair out of her face, and he moved in for a kiss. It was a very romantic gesture.”

You know what else is a romantic gesture? Not making out with other women when you’ve got a girlfriend. Maybe I’m old fashioned, but that always works for me. Flying to London and driving 110-mph to get to me is really sweet, but certainly less so when you’ve been shoving your tongue down other girls’ throats.
