Did Marion Cotillard say the 9/11 attacks were an inside job?

cotillard1.jpg
Like Diablo Cody’s nude photos, the past of another Oscar winner is coming back to bite her in her cute ass. 32 year-old French actress Marion Cotillard, who won the Academy Award for best actress for her portrayal of tragic French singer Édith Piaf, once made statements questioning the official version of events on 9/11.

She said over a year ago in a television interview that “I think we’re lied to about a number of things… They [sic] was a tower, I believe it was in Spain, which burnt for 24 hours. It never collapsed. None of these towers collapsed. And there [in New York], in a few minutes, the whole thing collapsed.” She then went on to offer a possible motivation for an inside job destroying the towers and causing the deaths of thousands, saying “It was a money-sucker because they were finished, it seems to me, by 1973, and to re-cable all that, to bring up-to-date all the technology and everything, it was a lot more expensive, that work, than destroying them.” [As quoted in The Daily Mail]

Her quotes were taken out of context though. A French reader commented on D-Listed that Cotillard wasn’t making blanket statements, she was talking about the points that were made in specific documentaries she had seen. This would explain why she touched on such heated topics. It also was an informal interview and according to this person who has seen the show, Cotillard wasn’t set up to be interviewed ahead of time, she was caught off guard and was speaking off the cuff:

I’m french and some datas were missing here. So Marion was interviewed in a show called “Paris derniere” which is a very informal show at first. To goal of this show is to travel at night in the town, in interesting places like restaurants and museums and usually they meet randomly famous people. So Marion was interviewed and she said she was very paranoid and very influenced by documentaries. So she talked about all those events (9/11, the death of a famous french humorist,…) as an example on how her paranoid is fed by documentaries. This was not clever to talk about this in front of a camera, but it’s important to know the context.

[Comment on D-Listed by alx5962]

It’s a very controversial issue and is not something to talk to the press about if you’re famous. Still, it seems like Cotillard didn’t quite say this like it’s being portrayed and was talking about documentaries she had seen. Since this is being reported in The Daily Mail it’s not like we can expect them to get the story straight.

You can tell that Cotillard is referring to documentaries when she referred to the 1969 visit to the moon as suspicious based on the films she saw. She didn’t say she didn’t believe that it happened, just that she doesn’t trust everything she sees. It’s not clear from the way she phrases this whether she’s talking about not buying into the documentaries questioning the events or the events themselves:

She said: “Did a man really walk on the Moon? I saw plenty of documentaries on it, and I really wondered. And in any case I don’t believe all they tell me, that’s for sure.”

[As quoted in The Daily Mail]

Other celebrities who have said that there’s something suspicious about the official version of events on 9/11 include Rosie O’Donnell and Charlie Sheen. Both have recommended a popular Internet-distributed film questioning the terrorist attacks called Loose Change. O’Donnell and Sheen were widely discredited and mocked by the US press for their comments.

This strikes me as revealing a cultural difference between the US and Europe. She was expressing her doubts about 9/11, something that is acceptable mainstream conversation in Europe. I have seen documentaries questioning 9/11 on regular television in Germany, and if this type of thing is on TV people don’t think it’s a big deal to talk about it. Like Cotillard’s on-screen sex scenes, which may seem titillating to Americans, it’s commonplace and isn’t considered particularly controversial. That’s not to say that everyone believes this, just that it’s something that is not a taboo subject.

According to The Daily Mail, Cotillard will soon be in Chicago filming Public Enemies with Johnny Depp. It is a gangster film set in the 1930s, but all I need to hear is “Johnny Depp.”

Update: Cotillard’s lawyer has released a statement saying that she “never intended to contest nor question the attacks of Sept. 11, 2001, and regrets the way old remarks have been taken out of context.”

Jennifer Lopez kept other mothers awake in hospital, spent $1.4 million on birth

csh-034117.jpg
Jennifer Lopez’s manager has revealed the baby names chosen for her twins with husband Marc Anthony, born early in the morning on February 22. The boy and girl twins are named Max and Emme, which TMZ points out are coincidentally the names of the brother and sister on the PBS Kids cartoon Dragon Tales. The show also includes some snippets in Spanish to help children learn the second most spoken language in the US. When I heard that they had the same names as the characters in a bilingual children’s show it occurred to me that at least they didn’t call them Dora and Diego. Max and Emme are cute names that are original while not potentially embarrassing, and sound like a good choice.

More details are coming out about Jennifer Lopez’s exclusive birth at North Shore University hospital on Long Island. The tabloids are reporting that the hospital stay cost an estimated $1.4 million and that her party was loud and prevented another woman who had just given birth from sleeping. What’s more is that another woman who had her baby a few hours before Lopez came was kicked out of the room slated for the singer when she arrived a little earlier than expected. J.Lo had gone into labor before her scheduled c-section. Security was also super tight on the maternity ward when she was there:

Cynthia Leon, of Kew Gardens, NY, says she was resting comfortably just hours after giving birth to her fifth child, a son named Horatio, when she was told to pack her bags by the staff.

“I was just thinking how lucky I was because the room was so much prettier than the regular rooms; it even had a plasma-screen TV,” says Leon. “Then I find out I’m moving to make room for J.Lo!…”

According to first-time dad Tom Sheehan of Lindenhurst, NY, his exhausted wife, Elizabeth, who labored from 20 hours, had a restless night of sleep because of all the cheering coming from J.Lo’s suite.

“It sounded like a crowd of people, and they were up all night,” says Sheehan. “They were making so much noise, you would have thought they were the only ones on the floor. We’re happy for them, but my wife could barely get any sleep…”

According to one source, “J.Lo’s guards had the whole place blocked off… It’s the most security I’ve ever seen, especially for a maternity ward!”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, March 10, 2008]

And here’s In Touch’s breakdown of the cost of the birth, which they put at a whopping $1.4 million:

Hospital suite: $700,000
Private doctors and nurses: $300,000
Security: $300,000
Personal assistants: $100,000
Total: $1.4 million

[From In Touch, print edition, March 10, 2008]

A lot of people were bashing J.Lo for making such elaborate plans for the birth of her first babies, but can you blame her? I was very careful about everything before I gave birth, and even switched ob/gyns and decided to use a birth center on the day I was due as I got a bad feeling from one of the midwives. It’s only natural to want to set up a secure environment for your birth.

The Chicago Sun Times is reporting that Lopez has hired six new bodyguards and has closed-circuit cameras in every room in her mansions because she’s afraid of a potential kidnapping. She also has “a lifetime supply” of surgical masks that people must wear around the babies and has hand sanitizing liquid dispensers installed around the house. Again, I would have done that. I hated when people, namely strangers, would touch my son’s hands and face when he was just a newborn. They’re susceptible to a lot of germs at that age. When they get to be a few months it’s fine, but you understand mothers being protective of their newborns.

Little Coco Arquette swears like a trucker

Courteney Cox and David Arquette’s daughter, Coco, is three and a half and supposedly loves shocking her family by saying naughty words. Star Magazine reports that the tot enjoys riling up her family by saying forbidden swear words. They claim that Courtney says that she can’t get her to stop and is hoping she’ll grow out of it:

“Coco’s somehow learned to cuss like a sailor,” a source told Star. Courteney told the source that scolding Coco hasn’t helped. “Coco thinks it’s funny and goes right on swearing. Courteney’s just hoping she’ll outgrow it. She doesn’t want her saying these things to teachers or other kids!”

[From Star Magazine, print edition, March 10, 2008]

It’s Star so who knows if this is true, but she wouldn’t be the first three year-old to swear in order to get a rise out of her parents. They don’t know what the words mean and just like to get a reaction. My son loves singing “I like big butts and I cannot lie.” He doesn’t know the words beyond the first sentence, but he heard the famous ode to large butts in the movie Shark Tale and will just belt out the song during dull moments. We laugh our asses off, so that could explain why he does it.

Here are videos of little kids swearing, not always intentionally.

Little girl says she’s going to kick a monster’s ass:

Little boy mispronounces “truck”

This one is pretty bad, the girl yells “mother f’er” repeatedly. I couldn’t help but laugh, but I did feel slightly guilty about it. The mother explains in the comments that the girl heard her say it when she dropped a can on her foot and that her kid does not say this all the time:

Oh please, save your sanctimoneous [sic] drivel for someone whose child actually repeats naughty words in front of people that matter. Although it’s NOYB, she hasn’t repeated it since.

Now, where are all your chastisments for the myriad other mummies and daddies who have videos similar to mine? Thanks, have a nice day!

Ellen Launches a range of organic dog food

sgg-073498.jpg
Ellen Degeneres is launching a range of organic dog food, and you can eat it too!

She tells Parade magazine, “Ours (range) is all human grade. It’s all natural. And yes, you can eat it.”

“People love their animals so much so that they put little clothes on them and necklaces and booties and things like that. And if you love your animal, then you should feed them something that’s not dangerous for them. There’s a lot of poisonous stuff that they’re putting in a lot of that food, those by-products.”

KeyeTV

I don’t think that Ellen is actually suggesting that you should eat the food, just that you can if you want to. Or if you are ever caught in an emergency, like flooding or an earthquake, it’s good to know that it is safe to eat.

This follows Ellen’s previous issues with her adopted dog Iggy, where Ellen and partner Portia DeRossi adopted the dog and then gave it away, violating their agreement with the agency they took the dog from. Ellen cried about the new family losing custody of the pooch Iggy on her show, and got a huge amount of coverage for situation. Buying and promoting a dog food brand after that publicity is a great business move.

I might also suggest that it is a very subtle ‘up yours’ to the Mutts and Moms dog adoption agency, since she’s now used her infamous love of dogs to make money, while they have only received bad publicity.

Picture note by Celebitchy: Ellen Degeneres and Portia DeRossi are shown at the Primetime Emmy Awards on 9/16/07, thanks to PRPhotos.

Steve Irwin’s family are feuding

binditerri.jpg
When a family member dies all sorts of issues can surface amongst the remaining family. It’s been 18 months since Steve Irwin died, and now his family members seem to be in conflict.

Bob Irwin, Steve’s father and the man who started his interest in wildlife, has left his role at Australia Zoo after 36 years. he will be moving to a new property he has purchased in Australia, separate from Australia Zoo, where Steve and Terri Irwin based their work from. Here is his statement.

bobirwin.jpg

Bob Irwin

Steve’s ultimate passion, even from a young boy, was always for the conservation of Australian wildlife and its habitat. When Judy and I move to our new property we intend to carry on with wildlife rehabilitation and conservation projects and therefore continue Steve’s and my dream.

I would like to thank Australia Zoo for their valuable assistance in acquiring our new property in SE Queensland. Australia Zoo has kindly offered to assist us in the relocation (to our new property) of animals needing special care.

I would like to sincerely thank all of the dedicated and hardworking staff at Australia Zoo, Wildlife Warriors and the Australian Wildlife Hospital for their kindness and support over many years.

To all of Steve’s friends out there, you may rest assured that Judy and I will continue with Steve’s dream, with the passion and commitment he would expect.

I would appreciate that my privacy be respected at this time. A more in-depth statement may be released at a later date, if necessary.

Courier Mail

Originally, only a brief statement was released by Australia Zoo suggesting that Bob was retiring. You can read the whole statement here – note that it doesn’t mention Terri Irwin, Steve’s wife and manager of his estate.

This follows quickly behind a family feud being reported in the Australian women’s magazines last week, which Terri’s managers were quick to comment on, but didn’t actually deny the reports.

It is a huge shame that Bob Irwin, who is credited by Steve with introducing him to wildlife conservation and who started the Australia Zoo in the 1970s, isn’t on good terms with his son’s wife and children following his son’s death. Bob’s statement seems to suggest that he is unhappy with the management of Australia Zoo, I suspect because it is now less about conservation and more about tourism.

Terri Irwin has never been particularly liked in Australia, mostly because of her grating accent and now for putting Bindi into the spotlight. Which is probably unfair as Bindi’s projects were in the works before her father died. Steve Irwin was never well-liked Down Under either, I think he embarrassed Australians. ‘Oh no, the whole world is going to think we’re like him!’ Which is probably a legitimate claim. I am Australian and when I was overseas I was asked what is was like to wear normal clothes, not khaki. I own no khaki, and never have. I do have a pet kangaroo though. She carries me in her pouch.

Grammy winner Mark Ronson to DJ Suri’s B-Day party

markronsonsuri.jpg
composite image made from Splash News and image from NYMag.com
Suri Cruise allegedly turns 2 years old on April 18, and sources say the party is going to rival anything you’ve seen on MTV’s “My Super Sweet 16.” The entertainment for the toddler’s party won’t be a clown or a pony– instead, it’s going to be a Grammy-winning producer and DJ, Mark Ronson, whose latest claim to fame was producing Amy Winehouse’s album, “Back to Black.”

Tom Cruise and wife Katie Holmes have asked top British music producer Mark Ronson to DJ at their daughter, Suri’s second birthday party.

Suri turns two on April 18 — and the Hollywood couple are planning a huge bash to mark the occasion.

They reckon Grammy and BRIT Award winner Mark — who has worked with the likes of Amy Winehouse, Lily Allen and Robbie Williams — is just the man to spin some tunes.

32-year-old Mark — who made his name as a DJ on the New York club scene in 1993 — was the official DJ when Tom, 45, married Katie, 29, in Bracciano, Italy, on November 18, 2006 and impressed the groom with a re-worked version of the Top Gun theme.

[From Showbizspy]

Last year, when Suri allegedly turned one, the Cruises had a simple party in comparison - close friends and family ate cupcakes and pizza in a backyard party on the Cruise compound, which was decorated with dragonfly pinatas. It looks like this year, Suri decided to step it up a notch. After all, she’s been alive for millions of years and already knows everything she needs to know.

Seriously, though, what does she care who the DJ is, as long as he plays The Wiggles?

I hope my 8-year-old daughter doesn’t catch wind of this. She announced last week that she wants Beyonce to sing at her birthday party in November. I don’t have those kind of connections!

Simon Cowell explains why he’ll never marry - and the answer is not Ryan Seacrest

sgg-012466.jpg
Simon Cowell recently explained why he and his longtime girlfriend, entertainment journalist Terri Seymour, will never get married. And it’s not because of his bromance with hyperactive American Idol co-star Ryan Seacrest. It’s because he’s afraid of being cleaned out like Paul McCartney.

X-Factor boss Simon Cowell has revealed the real reason he will never marry girlfriend Terri Seymour - because he fears she will “do a Heather Mills on him” and leave him broke.

The music mogul said his partner of five years was “great” but admitted the concept of marriage in the entertainment industry was a scary and unrealistic one.

“I don’t believe in marriage, certainly not in this business,” the 48-year-old told the Mirror.

“The truth is that you get married and in a year or two they clean you out! It’s just not going to work.

“I know a lot of people going through divorces now and once the lawyers get involved it starts to get nasty.”

[From The Daily Mail]

I’m curious…just how much is Simon worth? I know he’s had a successful career managing some pop stars in the UK and creating some shows, but here in the states, his success outside of “Idol” has been limited. As for his concerns about being taken to the cleaners, Terri is no Heather Mills, she has her own successful career and seems to have her own identity and interests outside of the relationship.

In another interesting part of this interview, Simon says that if he were Amy Winehouse’s manager, he would have insisted that the singer enter rehab a lot sooner than she did.

And Cowell left his nicest comments for struggling Amy Winehouse, who he described as “an amazing talent”.

“Given the chance I’d take her on, but I don’t think she’d work with me,” he said.

“If I had been managing her I would have got her into rehab from day one. Then maybe none of this nonsense would have happened.”

I guess hindsight is 20/20, isn’t it?

Note by Celebitchy: According to Wikipedia, Cowell is worth upwards of $200 million. He just bought a mansion that cost $80 million, so I guess we know where his money is going. He also revealed that he turned down a $2 million offer to be the face of erectile dysfunction drug Viagra. That’s chump change to him.

Hunter Tylo presses on with lawsuit on behalf of her son

sgg-071555.jpg
Soap star Hunter Tylo is continuing with her malpractice suit against the therapist who was treating her 19-year-old son, Michael Tylo II, who drowned last year at the family home. A judge in the case ruled against Tylo’s move to include her deceased son as a party in the legal action on Friday. Young Michael drowned last October in the family pool while his parent and siblings were out for the day. An autopsy revealed that the teen had a seizure near the pool, fell in and drowned.

A Las Vegas judge has dismissed a portion of a lawsuit filed by actress Hunter Tylo against a therapist who was counseling her 19-year-old son, Michael Tylo II, prior to his drowning last October.

The Bold and the Beautiful star filed the suit in the form of a Jan. 24 amendment to an April 2006 malpractice lawsuit filed against Henderson, Nev., therapist Shanna Downing, who was working with several members of the Tylo family in 2004 and 2005.

Downing countered the wrongful death lawsuit with a motion to exclude Michael Tylo II as a party in the legal action, and Tylo was required to respond to Downing’s motion by Feb. 11, but she missed the filing deadline.

“To date, no opposition has been filed,” court papers state.

While the judge agreed to dismiss Michael Tylo II as a party in the wrongful death action, his estate remains a party in the earlier malpractice lawsuit, set for trial in the fall.

Downing’s attorney, Michael Shannon, had no comment. Tylo attorney Patricia Vaccarino was unavailable for comment.

[From People]

In the malpractice suit, Hunter states that her son had a seizure disorder which his therapist, Shanna Downing, failed to diagnose properly and treat. Hunter Tylo says in her filing that her son’s seizures should have been treated with medication, and that if Downing had been doing her job, Michael would be alive today. The actress plans on continuing the suit in her name instead of her son’s.

According to court papers filed by Downing, she counseled Michael II because he was having “conflicts” with his parents, who were going through a divorce. Downing claimed that the seizures were brought on by stress and could be cured with acupuncture and behavioral therapy.

It’s hard to say which side will prevail here- but either way, it must be very difficult for the family.

Picture Note by Celebitchy: Hunter Tylo is shown at the Daytime Emmy Awards on 6/15/07, thanks to PRPhotos. Yes she has had a lot of work done, not all of it enhancing her appearance, but this is about her son’s tragic death. Keep that in mind in the comments.

Prince Harry enjoyed serving in Afghanistan; disappointed by press leak

On Thursday the Drudge Report leaked information that Brittan’s Prince Harry, 23, has been serving with his military unit in Afghanistan since December. The media had agreed to keep his deployment private, since knowledge of his whereabouts would endanger his life. Harry is a cornet, which is the equivalent to a second lieutenant in the U.S. He was in Afghanistan as a forward air controller with the Joint Tactical Air Control. Not too shabby for a guy who used to be most known for little more than his hard partying. Harry said that he was glad the British press had stuck to their end of the bargain, but was pretty disappointed that the foreign press had given up his whereabouts. Within an hour of the leak, Harry was on his way back to England – four weeks shy of the end of his deployment.

“I didn’t see it coming, obviously it’s a shame,” the 23-year-old said. ” I am so disappointed, I thought I could see it through to the end and come back with our guys and the colonel himself.”

He added, “I suppose I think deep down inside it would be quite nice to have a bath … but, no, I’d like to still be out there with the guys … I would love to go back out. I want to go out very very soon.”

On Saturday, Harry said he was “surprised by the way the British media kept to their side of the bargain and … I am very grateful to that.” He added, “At the same time it doesn’t surprise me that once again it came down to media, foreign media, that’s once again spilled the beans.”

[From CNN]

Prince Charles said he gained new respect for how hard it is for families to have children serving overseas. He said he was glad to have Harry home, but also disappointed that his tour had been cut short. CNN reports that within a short time of the news leak, messages were posted on several Islamist Web sites “alerting their “brethren” in Afghanistan to be on the lookout for the royal soldier.”

The prince is apparently back with his girlfriend, Zimbabean student Chelsy Davy, 22. She left school in Leeds to join Prince Harry and his family for a celebration on Saturday evening. Harry has gotten a lot of positive press for going to Afghanistan – he certainly could easily have gotten out of it if he wanted to. It took a lot more effort for him to make it work. He was not allowed to go with Iraq, as it was deemed too dangerous. As a result, most people assumed he wouldn’t be allowed to serve anywhere in the Middle East. Both he and the army obviously went to great lengths to get it to work. Prince Harry has said he hopes to be able to go back, and plans to continue his military career. He’s certainly turned into a man his mother would be proud of.

Here’s Prince Harry patrolling the deserted town of Garmisir close to FOB (forward operating base) Delhi in Helmand Province on January 2nd, eating a a boil-in-the-bag lunch in the desert in Helmand Province on February 19th, and returning home at RAF Brize Norton in Oxfordshire, England on March 1st.
