Jake Gyllenhaal: growing out my hair was “almost harder” than acting

Last night was the big London premiere of The Prince of Persia, so Jake Gyllenhaal had to spend his Mother’s Day abroad. Since he’s so close to his parents, I’d imagine that killed him a little. Anyway, Jake looked very nice and not too orange, as opposed to his recent tan-tastic appearance on GQ. The British girls were all over him, too, especially his British costar Gemma Arterton. Arterton was wearing a big, beautiful ball gown that I like, but I would like better for an awards ceremony rather than a premiere. Still, pretty.

Jake gave a bunch of self-deprecating statements on the red carpet, so read into these what you will. Regarding his bulked-up body, Jake said: “My shoulders got so big that sometimes I couldn’t reach to grab things.” Regarding his shoulder-length hair for the film – which wasn’t a wig or a weave – Jake said: “It took me six months to grow it, which was the hardest part of it all. It was harder to grow the hair than do the accent or to swordfight. It’s almost harder than acting! It was shampoo and conditioner – not a two-in-one – because the physique was developed by vigorous scrubbing and rubbing of the scalp with shampoo. That really worked the bicep area and if you really focus on the core while you are doing it, your abs get totally ripped up.”

Gemma Arterton, meanwhile, outed Jake as a man afraid of ostriches, which are in the film: “Jake is scared of ostriches. He ran away and the look on his face is not acting, it’s real!

By the way, I saw this dude’s photo at the premiere, and I just had to put it up. His name is David Gandy and isn’t he just the prettiest thing you’ve ever seen? According to Wikipedia, he’s a British model, not an actor. Sigh…

Sensible chap. I’m scared of ostriches too. They combine the territorial viciousness of a Tasmanian devil with the brainpower of a retarded chicken. Not good.

  2. photo jojo says:

Well HELLO, hot British model man… whoo, Kaiser, that’s an early morning treat!!

  3. carrie says:

  5. Bonfire Beach says:

I’m afraid of ostriches too! With their big, creepy eyes and stretching neck. They’ll peck the crap out of you.

    @embertine – spot on! LMAO!

  6. Kaiser says:

LOL @ all of the ostrich-bashing.

  7. Crash2GO2 says:

    LOL @ Embertine!

I’ll have to take Jake’s workout advice – sounds much easier than my current routine.

*sigh* I love me some Jakey-Poo in the morning <3 that British male model is nothing next to my Jakey 🙂

And I’m terrified of all birds, so we can go live together in a birdless paradise 🙂

Jake is a fine looking young man. And, his picture definitely helps to kick-start the morning.

  11. raincoaster says:

Have you seen that video of an ostrich attacking a kid’s pony WHILE THE KID WAS RIDING IT??? They are evil, evil dinosaurs who don’t realize they’re stupid ostriches instead of still velociraptors.

Also: I hate that lipstick. It should come with batteries. I’ve blogged about how much I hate that lipstick. On her, his is fine.

  12. embertine says:

Oh my, there’s a lot of people out there who hate ostriches. I don’t feel so alone now.

  13. Fire says:

thanks for the man candy – makes my monday morning. :o)

waiting for all the “he’s afraid of ostriches therefore he must be gay” comments. i hope they don’t come – i love me some jake!

  14. gg says:

I’m also with embertine. The buggers sneak up on you and attack. Like goats.

  15. canadianchick says:

Mmm thanks for the Monday man candy.
Yeah, given the above commentary I will stay away from ostriches today.

  16. kai says:

He’s not gay because he’s afraid of ostriches, he’s gay because he likes having sex with men. I mean, really…a man who says growing out his hair is “hard”? Seriously? Hell, I’m a woman and would shave my head tomorrow if I could. Only weirdos and gays are that SRS BIZ about their f-ing hair.

Ostriches are AWESOME, I don’t get all the hate for them, but I prefer Emus really. Smaller and just as cool.

  17. Macheath says:

Kaiser, I don’t appreciate you posting pictures of my husband, David Gandy, without permission. Hmph! *just kidding*

I would cut off my arm for one night with Gandy. Sigh.

Ostriches are damn scary and they are faster than humans. You can’t outrun those angry fothermuckers!

  18. I should be working says:

@Kai- *mocking voice* Seriously? If you could shave your head? What’s stopping you?

C’mon, smile, I’m razzing you. I really don’t like any of the comments you’ve made on any of the stories, and I was even all set to defend the poorly voiced opinion on the Duke & Duchess.

But you’re taking things TOO FAR talking about Jake Gyllenhal. ENOUGH. (LOL)

Kaiser- YESH! I think David Gandy is hot too, w/his incredibly hooded eyes. However, one false move and he could go the way of GAH!

  19. Camille says:

Oh Jakey, you are so hot. Yum.

  20. Ana says:

I’m terrified of ostriches as well.
When I was younger we went to a petting zoo and one took my daddy’s red baseball cap. My dad crawled into the cage to get it back (well it was his favorite but WHAT WAS HE THINKING?!?!)
I was so scared they would attack him. They are very mean and dangerous. I’m still scared to this day.

  21. Fire says:

Kai – I like that you say that so matter-of-factly. It must be because you know him personally or have seen some lost male porn tape of him having sex with men. Oh, you don’t and/or you haven’t? Then SHUSH! I’ve only seen him dating women, so I need to keep the dream alive. :o) Just because he was in Brokeback Mountain and is a good ACTOR, doesn’t mean he IS his character!

And the growing out his hair is hard comment doesn’t make him gay either. He, like many STRAIGHT men, is used to using the shampoo/conditioner in one (unlike metrosexual and gay men, who, most likely, shampoo and condition their hair separately). Because he had to grow his hair out for the role and keep it nice, he had to use separate products. Therefore, in my opinion, this statement is further proof that he is STRAIGHT! :o)

  22. Alexis says:

I don’t think he’s gay…I feel he’s wound tight. A homebody in a sense, like his sister, who just wants to start a family and just settle down. Though Maggie seems more adventurous.

  23. Spot on with this write-up, I really suppose this web site wants much more consideration. I’ll in all probability be again to learn way more, thanks for that info.

  24. wonderlust says:

I am going backwards on Celebitchy and I cannot believe this is where the Gandy lust starts!
