Peter Krause on his relationship with Lauren Graham: ‘she’s fantastic’

Peter Krause was a guest on the Today Show yesterday to promote his NBC show Parenthood. There was some minor buzz that Parenthood might be canceled before the end of this second season, but E! just reported that it will continue to air on Tuesdays at 10 into March of next year, when they’ll move it to Mondays for a little while. So it’s not being canceled before the season is out at least. The numbers for Parenthood have been disappointingly low. This an incredibly solid and entertaining show that has a genuine feel to it and is one of my favorites. I hope that something can be done to ensure that this show continues into a third season.

Anyway Krause was inevitably asked about his off-screen relationship with Lauren Graham, who plays his sister on the show. He was coy but smiled widely when he said that she’s “fantastic.”

On how everything started to “click” halfway through season one
I did feel that way last season, we’ve had a great second season so far. There was a little to-do about this last episode last week where the character I play Adam Braverman punches out a guy in a supermarket… My son on the show, Max, has Aspergers… the gentleman calls him a ‘retard’ so I take a swing at him at the supermarket.

On whether he’s dating Lauren Graham
She’s great. She’s fantastic. She’s a fantastic actress and a wonderful person.

It’s a great bunch of people, enjoy to go to work every day. Very happy that the ratings have picked up a little bit and we’re going to be moved to Mondays. I guess people want their Parenthood a little earlier.

That was cute how he sidestepped that. I like them both and hope they stay together. Krause is such a good actor and this show is full of very excellent performances. The relationship between his character Adam Braverman and his son with Aspergers feels real, too, and I love the actress who plays his wife, Monica Potter. If you’re not watching Parenthood, I highly recommend that you give it a chance. You can watch it on Hulu and NBC.com if you’re in the US.

I haven’t seen this week’s Parenthood yet, so please don’t comment with spoilers unless you write “SPOILER” over the top. Minor plot details should be ok, though.

(This is a personal recommendation. I started watching this show on my own and we were not encouraged to promote it. We are a member of the Today Show Network, which is owned by NBC.)

Such a fantastic show, I really hope it continues! I look forward to watching it every week, and it is on eo fmy very favorites right now.

I think they are cute together, but I have a soft spot in my heart for her since Gilmore Girls!

  2. brin says:

    I like them together, too.

  3. Sam says:

This is such a great show! All of the characters are believeable and well acted. Monica Potter is phenomenal in her role.
You can watch it online in Canada at citytv.com. If you haven’t seen it, i highly recommend checking it out before it’s gone!

  4. Leila says:

    Love them both!!

  5. kelBear says:

I love this show! And I would hate for it to be canceled. I like how it has all the stories of each family to make it one big family story.

  6. tracking says:

Love, love, love the cast, but the writing could be improved (JMO). Other than Adam Braverman’s family, there isn’t a very consistent focus (Sarah’s daughter, yes, son, no; Sarah seems to find hot new boyfriend but he’s immediately dumped in favor of makes-no-sense Billy Baldwin character. Where was Julia this week?) and the pace is a little slow. I hope the show finds a rhythm because it has such potential!

Love Krause and Graham. They are too seriously fantastic catches to have remained single for so long. Glad they found each other!

  7. Bonfire Beach says:

This really is an awesome show. All of the acting is wonderful and they really seem like a real family with real issues. Dax Sheppard surprised the crap out of me with how good he is! I hope this show doesn’t get canceled. It seems like all the shows I watch (and there aren’t many) never make it.

  8. Po says:

I think NBC (It is on NBC right?)has been doing a horrible time promoting its shows lately. I have no idea what is on NBC right now. The only thing I know about the shows is what is being cancelled.

  9. Emma says:

It’s so cute they’re dating. I only watch this show for them and their characters. I cannot stand anyone else especially Kristina and Julia.

  10. esblondie says:

I love, love, love this show. I am so happy it made it to the 2nd season and if it gets cancelled after that I’m going to freak the hell out. What does it take to have one decent goddamn show on television?! I’m still pissed about the cancellation of Journeyman (the main star, Kevin McKidd is now in Grey’s and a muy hottie; recommended for HGF). And I never even got a chance to watch Flash Forward. For the love of god, give me Parenthood!

  11. Stephie says:

I like the show but it has the same problem Brothers & Sisters has (for me)…the talking over each other/arguing all the time crap is annoying. At least it’s interesting and I’m glad it will at least finish season 2.

  12. julie says:

I love this show, so therefore I pretty much assume it will get cancelled. Probably be replaced by some mindless reality show which I wont watch. I watch almost nothing on the networks anymore, thank goodness for cable.

  13. Chicoulina says:

I love the show.Peter Krause is an awesome actor. They’re a cute couple.
I think they’re a great on screen couple with his wife. She’s very convincing.Everytime after I see the show I keep saying honey,honey..with her accent.
I think the writing could improve, there are so many storylines that could happen.

  14. lucy2 says:

I just recently caught up watching this show, and I really like it. Great cast, I’m amazed they have so many big names on one show. Peter and Lauren seem like a good match in real life.

  15. Delta Juliet says:

I started out watching this show but I have since stopped (my husband still watches it). It IS a very good show; I think the reason I stopped watching is it is almost a little TOO real for me. Probably didn’t explain that right.

    • Kim says:

I know exactly what you mean but I love that about it. I like to call the show a real reality show. It’s all stuff that could/would happen in real life!

  16. Jeri says:

I love Parenthood and was shocked there were cancellation rumors. Great show, great performances by everyone in the cast.

Monica Potter was great on Chelsea the other night. She looked hot and came across very cute and sexy.

(Sorry, way too many “greats” but that’s how I feel about this show and cast.)

  17. Jayna says:

I thought the ratings were great last season. Maybe I’m wrong. I have to admit the storyline isn’t as good this season; although, I love the show and all the actors.

  18. The_Porscha says:

I’m really disappointed to hear that the show isn’t doing well in the ratings. This show is GREAT and it needs to stay on television. There are some shows that are on for years that seem to have no purpose, but “Parenthood” is a great series. I hope more people watch it before NBC starts rethinking the lineup. Given the network, the show might be cancelled before we have the chance to blink an eye, but this is a quality series that should be allowed to continue.

ETA: Parenthood is during the same time slot as “The Good Wife” and “Criminal Minds,” two series that do quite well in their time slots, so maybe that’s where they’re losing part of their audience?

  19. Jeri says:

Parenthood and The Good Wife are both favorites of mine. I DVR them and have never missed an episode of either show. They get watched quickly too, some of my shows sit on there a long before I watch them but not these two.

  20. guilty pleasures says:

LG always seems like a blast when I see her interviewed, like a gal you’d really want to be best friends with!
Good luck to her on any and everything!

  21. Ally says:

Fantastic cast on this show, but I just couldn’t bear the scripts — managing to be both melodramatic and boring. There’s just no tension in shows where the characters freak out about everything. Less hysteria, more suspense and/or witty dialogue!

Very similar in subject and style to Brothers & Sisters, too, (which features its own Six Feet Under alum), another show that is too treacly and overwrought for me.

  22. Kristin says:

Meh, me and my family tried watching this show but we all thought it was horrible. Well, my mom continues to watch it, but the plot was stupid, and we tried to give it another chance, we watched the first 2 or 3 episodes but it was just awful.

  23. Feebee says:

I like the show and I thought Adam/Peter punching a guy in the supermarket was freaking awesome!

  24. LolaBella says:

I really like these two; they just seem like nice, normal, down to earth people who’re not caught up in the Hollywood machine.

Miss her on Gilmore Girls and him on Six Feet Under and Dirty, Sexy, Money, but I just can’t seem to get into Parenthood.

  25. gee says:

This show is good, but last season was sooo much better.

  26. Beth says:

I LOVE this show. I will be devastated if they cancel it–it’s one of the better-written shows I’ve seen in a long time.

  27. mari says:

I love Parenthood this is the best tv show ever,Nbc give parenthood a chances.I am so sick of all the reality programs,we need moore of the Braverman family. And Peter and Lauren look so good together, you can see it at the first season parenhthood that lauren and peter had a chemestry.Ilove them both, they rock 🙂

  28. linda says:

This is my favorite show. I watched Brothers and Sisters and do not think they are alike. I love all the characters on this show. Lauren Graham has been a favorite since Gilmore Girls. By the way this is also one of my daughter’s favorites. She is in her 20’s so wide spectrum of ages watch. I love that LG & PK are a couple. They seem right for each other and I wish them happiness. If this show gets cancelled I may never watch NBC again!

  29. Judi says:

This is the MOST real show on TV. Cancel all the “reality” TV and stick to a Ron Howard masterpiece!! I, too, will ban NBC entirely if this show is cancelled. You laugh, you cry, you see things you come across each and every day in REAL life, and everyone should watch it and learn. The cast is absolutely amazing and the every day (some sad) topics are important. Keep it going, NBC. Or someone else will pick it up in a heartbeat!
