i love her. she’s so cool and together. i would kill for her self esteem.

  2. geronimo says:

I’ve seen her (and pics of her) before without make-up, out and about in London. She looks great either way.

  3. Bisou says:

I think she looks great either way… great skin!

  4. chamalla says:

Wow, she looks fab with no face on. That woman has some killer genes.

I never wear makeup. I wore mascara to a funeral a couple of months ago, but the last time I wore foundation was on my wedding day in ’99. I look nothing like Gwynnie, so this may not be a good thing. I do have pretty good skin for a woman of a certain age, though, I wonder if NOT wearing makeup for all these years has been good for it….

As an aside, Gwynnie stopped annoying the crap out of me about a year ago, and I hardly know what to do with myself.

  5. Kaiser/ Hippacrat says:

She looks 19 again. Seriously, no hate.

    *BUT*
At that Estee Lauder event I thought Carolyn Murphy was the one who looked completely gorgeous.

  6. Roma says:

How many times do our men tell us that they like women with minimal makeup and hair in a ponytail? That’s exactly what Gwyneth is rocking. Yes, she looks a little younger with the makeup on, but without you can tell how beautiful she naturally is.

All my guy friends talk about the scary morning-afters, when the woman you wake up beside is NOT the woman you went to bed with! I love, love, love her confidence.

  7. Syko says:

If it’s any encouragement, Chamalla, I haven’t worn foundation since Nixon was in office and at 66-next-month, my skin is soft, smooth, and has only a few laugh lines around the eyes. So I think you’re okay.

I miss mascara, though. I used to ALWAYS put on eye liner and mascara, blush and lipstick, and about 12 years ago developed a severe allergy to any sort of makeup around my eyes. If I use something, even Clinique or Almay, the whites of my eyes turn bright red, eyelids puff up, itch and then crack open and peel and bleed. Very very attractive. So my usual makeup is eyebrow pencil, a touch of blush, a touch of lipstick. And on weekends I don’t bother with that. It feels good, whether it looks great or not. It’s terrific to rub an itchy eye without worrying over mascara all over your face.

She looks great with no makeup. I’d never put it on if I were her. Much prettier without than with.

  8. Hambone says:

She looks better without the make-up. I’m a guy. I think most women look better without make-up.

  9. Cassie says:

I’m less concerned with the (lack of) make-up and more concerned with the one-earring fashion trend she’s trying to start. Please tell me that’s just something in the background? It’s hard to tell.

  10. feather says:

    More power to her.

I can never wear mascara, just I don’t know how to apply it properly, so there is no eye makeup for me, but I have to have a light foundation and lip gloss before going out.

  11. daisy424 says:

I like her, but still thinks she needs at least foundation to even her skin tone. Not everyday, just at public event. She should put in some effort, even if it’s just a bra.

I just turned 49 and miss my younger days where I could go out ‘as is’ and look great. Sometimes I cheat and add a bit of lip gloss and throw on BIG sunglasses.
BTW, I have the best mascara and love it, very easy to use. Can only get it on-line or in Europe. I have never had an allergy to it.

  12. ks says:

sorry but she needs atleast a bit of foundation and a bit mascara,i think she looks so 😕 bad with no makeup on at all.

  13. hmmm... says:

I would never, but I think she looks absolutely beautiful

  14. Linda says:

I think she looks great – amazing that she is just as beautiful without makeup as she is with makeup and for someone in Hollywood to be that comfortable and have that much confidence. I wish more women were like her!!

  15. lola lola says:

I don’t go out without makeup on–but only because I like makeup. I like to put it on and I don’t make myself look like Lauren Hill or that fat chick from the Drew Carey show. Most women can wear a little makeup and guys never even know. The “women look better without makeup” is just dumb. Why would making my lashes darker (which makes my eyes stand out) ever be a negative thing?

  16. KERRI says:

She is a natural beauty. I prefer her without make-up. She looks like a teenager. I would love to have her looks. She so resembles her mom. I saw her mom in an old Columbo eposide. I swear, if one didn’t know any better, you would think she was Gwenyth.

  17. Diva says:

    LOL

It’s so funny to me that a woman going out in public without makeup is a headline!

  18. lola lola says:

Kerri: yeah they do look so much alike BUT her mom has that awesome scratchy/sexy voice.

  19. suede says:

As a Hamptonite I can tell you that she’s in good company being all natural that’s why people come to the Hamptons. It’s the ones dressed to the nines and plastered with make up that are the desperados looking for a money hubby.

  20. MISSY says:

I like the natural look on Gwynnie, how refreshing.

  21. velvet elvis says:

She’s trying to start a new trend…looking like hell is the new black.

  22. KateNonymous says:

I’m not a Gwyneth fan, but I think she looks nice here.

  23. Anna says:

It looks like she was really there for the event/party, to talk with people instead of just posing for snappers. She looks good without make-up but she’s so golden blond, a bit of mascara would have helped. She still looks pretty without it. It’s the slightly greasy hair that doesn’t agree with me. I never go out of the house with unwashed hair. I’m not saying made-up hair, I don’t spend half an hour styling it every day, but washed and blow-dried is a must. I don’t wear make-up every day either. I never wear foundation, only loose powder. Personally, I wear make-up (and by that I mean, an entire look, complete with eyeshadow, blush, lip colour etc) when I feel the need to express a certain feeling or mood I am in. And when I’ve got the time to properly do it. On days when I have to deal with people on a professional level but don’t feel like applying a lot of gunk, I’ll take plum or black mascara, a bit of loose powder, a hint of blush and a tinted lip balm (I always use lip care). That takes about 5 minutes to apply and it’s good for business 🙂
I love make-up and I’ve done stage make-up for various theatre productions, so I know a lot about it. But I don’t need it on my face every day. I’m glad someone who some people look up to, like Gwyneth Paltrow, has the confidence to show herself as she really is, stylist-free.

  24. Leah says:

Yeah, it is kind of funny that a celebrity going out without makeup makes a headline. However, when it’s hard to NOT compare yourself to every beautiful celebrity out there, it’s kind of refreshing to realize – hey, she’s beautiful, but she’s normal!!

I admire her for not being too vain to show up to an event without makeup. That’s really cool. 8)

  25. Leah says:

daisy424 – what mascara do you use? sounds awesome!

  26. Anna says:

Leah: I don’t know which mascara daisy 424 uses, but if you have sensitive eyes, try the Clinique mascaras. They are awesome and hypoallergenic. Plus, they separate and fluff up your eyelashes in the most gorgeous way.

  27. daisy424 says:

I actually use two, Lancome defincils for the top, Helena Rubinstein Long Lash for the bottom.
The HR is super shiny mascara with silk fibers in it. I really like the applicator, it doesn’t have a brush, it looks like a thin screw, so just one swipe and it glides on my bottom lashes. I also heat up my mascara in hot water before applying it.

  28. Nan says:

Oh, come on now, people! Beautiful? Plain, actually. Megan Fox or Bo Derek can get away w/out wearing makeup but NOT this one. You just know she is wearing concealer and powder makeup. I hardly ever wear makeup but I always make sure I powder in my eyebrows because they stayed blond. As I got older, I realized that I didn’t really need makeup to look good. Just need concealer to cover the dark circles under my eyes from smoking. I also noticed that men are more likely to approach me w/out makeup. All done up, I appear unapproachable.

Yeah, Gwyneth is another one of those people who made it because of her parents’ connections, like Tori and Rumer. As one person said here, she needs to put on a bra, wear a dress w/a built in bra, SOMETHING! Go ahead and drink your wine Gwyneth and continue to become even more delusional. I can’t imagine how delusional she must be to look in the mirror and walk out of the house like this. Her breasts are sagging down to her elbows. She’s just all kinds of wrong.

  29. drm says:

Nan! Meow! And Hambone…bless your heart mate! And Gwennie looks fine, sometimes you just can’t be stuffed…

  30. Nan says:

Yes, Lancome makes the best mascara of all time. Heating it up under hot water or holding it in your hand is a great tip. Dusting mineral makeup over the lashes starts a great foundation. Next, apply the step 1 underbase of L’Oreal volume shocking mascara set (don’t use their comb on mascara, Step 2). Let dry, then use Lancome mascara over this in dark brown. Quickly hit the tips of your lashes w/Lancome mascara in black. Gives the illusion of more length. If you can’t afford the Lancome, you can make do w/L’Oreal as they are the same company. Difference being one is made in France, the other U.S.

  31. Nan says:

Anna, Clinique mascaras SUCK. I worked for them during the holidays many years ago and I refused to sell anyone their mascaras. I would send them over to the Lancome counter. For allergies, Almay is the way to go or Shu Umera.

  32. daisy424 says:

Hey Syko, did you ever consider tattooing your eyeliner on? Just a thought, because your allergies.

  33. Megan says:

Wow, that is brave of her. I hate make up, I just put up with it.

  34. Sue says:

    Bitch has balls!!!!! would never.

  35. Anna says:

Nan: well, all I can say is my experience with the Clinique mascara is really good.
What’s all that business about heating the mascara up before applying it? I know it’s not inherently bad, but that’s putting too much effort in something that doesn’t deserve *that* much consideration.
Daisy is right about the Helena Rubinstein mascaras though. They rock too.

  36. Jen says:

Gwyneth looks great. I don’t get the fascination with makeup – I rarely wear it and I actually feel more uncomfortable with makeup on than without. I get away with it because I don’t look “washed out” without anything on – I have super pale skin but my eyelashes and eyebrows are black, so there’s a natural contrast there already.

  37. Idna says:

Blondes tend not to be naturally pretty light eye brows and eyelashes void of definition.Plain nose and thin shapeless mouth. Well This picture proves that! She looks terrible and I love her to pieces. Gwennie get some make up on!!

  38. Idna says:

    ——————
Exactly brunettes with golden to light complexions like ours have more definition than natural blondes do. I agree. I am light golden brown and have long black eyelashes I always look like Im wearing makeup anyway because of my skin and the way my eyes are shaped.

  39. Idna says:

gwen is plain she has great cheekbones. That is the one good thing I can say about her. But she is not beautiful. BO Derek and Kim Kardashian are beautiful women.

  40. Mr.Stinkyfishface says:

I never wear make up unless I”m going out some where special, I think the natural look is beautiful 🙂

  41. Nan says:

Anna, it’s just physics. Think of paint and lacquer. Think of the molecules as they are heated. Same thing goes for nail polish. You roll it, not shake it and heat it in your hands. Cleavage works, too, if you have it. The consistancy of a product becomes more pliable with thermage. There’s also a trick w/eyelashes. Heat your eyelash curler under the blow dryer for 30 secs. (clean it w/makeup remover first). You will not believe the difference.

P.S.- I really think Gwyneth has gone off the deep end. I have a sneaking suspicion that a certian pair of twins are partially responsible. AJ is not gonna feel so good about Brad dating THAT.

  42. Anastasia says:

It’s so sad that this is even a big deal. It shouldn’t be. Who cares?

That being said, your hair should at least be clean. I’m looking at you, Gwyneth. I’m down with no makeup, you go girl, but at least be clean, you know?

  43. Nan says:

There’s a priceless upclose shot on Dlisted.com where you can see tons of blackheads on her forehead. She’s too busy drinking to bother with pore strips. Just more proof that she is gonna be in a rehab for drinking within the year.

  44. kate says:

i think she looks sweet here. usually i think she looks bitchy, but i guess it was the makeup!

  45. Aspen says:

I never wear makeup unless I’m going to an event. It’s bad for your skin to wear makeup every day, and I like my face just fine the way it is most of the time. The rest of me…oh, that’s not interesting, but the point is that Gwenyth can go wherever she wants however she likes, and I don’t see why anyone would care. As for her hair, you don’t know anything of the sort about her hair being dirty. I don’t “shimmer” when it’s hot out. I sweat. Perhaps that’s why Gwenyth went to this thing like she did. It appears to be outdoors. She pulled her hair back and went sans makeup. It could be nothing more than she knew she’d be sweating all day–making hair and makeup a moot point anyway. Wow. The comments that rip this woman every way from Sunday because she went out without makeup and perfect hair just kill me. I’d love to see photos of you people on a hot day in July.

We know Gwenyth is gorgeous, and we know that when she’s all made up, she looks like a million bucks. So…leave her alone, I say.

  46. DesertCat says:

Whether she looks good with or without make-up doesn’t hide her ugly personality. She’s a pretentious snot.

  47. Hollz says:

i never wear make up unless it’s for a special event (prom, wedding, etc) or someone else does it. I don’t count lip gloss in that, but thats because my lips are so dry and i can’t use lip chap and frankly, most guys i know prefer it that way. I find it harder to have fun when my face is covered in that gunk- can’t get sweaty or anything like that without worrying it’s gonna run down my face

  48. Kate says:

I love it that she has enough confidence to do that.

Other actresses would not walk out without having a team of hair-makeup people work on them.

Angelina Jolie who has been hiding in Namibia and now in the South of France, so no one would see her “big” before giving birth and “normal” after, should learn something.

  49. Persistent Cat says:

I love make-up. I get dressed in the morning and my make-up choices reflect my outfit. Sometimes I do the very light route, I’m wearing make-up but you wouldn’t know it and sometimes I love the severity of liquid eyeliner.

My pet peeve is women who wearing make-up improperly, like when the smudge in some eyeliner or eyeshadow but no mascara. Looks horrible and amateurish.

If drinking some red wine at a party makes you destined to rehab, I guess I should stop there on my way home from work.

  50. Anastasia says:

Nan: where did you get that Paltrow is an alcoholic?

And Kate: amazing how you work in Angelina insults in threads that have nothing to do with her. ROFL!

  51. breederina says:

daisy424 : GET OUT! HR is still making the brushless mascara!!!!!
That was all I used thru high school. I thought it was long discontinued. You’ve made my day, I’m tracking it down asap. Any help would be most welcome. I love this stuff !

  52. Nan says:

Anastasia, the doormen click in NYC, that is how!

  53. breederina says:

Nan, pop bitch has been running blind items about a female celeb who’s all about macrobiotic diets and organics but is also a heavy drinker.
So it was Gwennie, hmmmm, makes sense I suppose.

  54. daisy424 says:

    Hey Breederina,
I used it through HS also, back in the 70’s. I used to use a pin to separate my top lashes to get that ‘long spiky’ look. If you heat it up, it glides on your lashes like hot flux around a fitting, no effort. Try Google, there are a few places on line that sell it. I have gotten it on ebay. I have also bought it in Berlin & Paris if you live in Europe.

Anna, I fill my sink a bit with hot water and start heating the tubes while I am doing my meneral bronzer/powder, by the time I have my liner and brows done, it’s ready to apply, super easy. It’s like faux painting, better to have few thin layers, than a thick clumpy one.

  55. Nan says:

Age has nothing to do with it. Even with pics of Madonna without makeup, she looks good. Just goes to show the old adage, It’s not HOW old you are, but WHO you are.

  56. daisy424 says:

Sorry to disagree with you about Madonna Nan,
I am only a few months younger than Madonna and I look much better than her. I don’t have her $$ for surgery, chefs, gym Guru’s, skin and make-up experts. Plus I have given birth to 3 more kids than her.
She tries too hard and it shows.

  57. Blackalicious says:

She looks good. Nice strong bone structure, decent skin (non smoker/tanner) but.. if she does drink like someone said here all the time that will not last.

I find the less makeup I wear the younger I look; seems to be true for a lot of women. Also… @ Suede in the Hamptons- yes! She does fit in there in terms of look/appearance. Low key, very old money east coast look to be understated: I notice they wear less makeup and neutral clothing, nothing too garish or ostentatious. It’s a class thing, too, partially. Interesting.

  58. Little Hutt says:

I want her skin. And not in a ‘I want to kill her’ way.

  59. Nan says:

Blackie, sorry to say but your comment here is just a bowful of wrong.

It’s over a month since this post & I just look back at it in awe. She really has no idea how horrible she looks w/the no-makeup makeup job. The delusion astounds me.

Oh, just so you know, she can never be one of those old money individuals who’s family has had a home in SOUTHampton for generations. Those people don’t have grandparents from Brooklyn named Buster, okay?

  60. cosmetics says:

all women are basically beautiful without makeup or wearing makeup, regular treatment will be help you perfect even without makeup.by the way nice blog
the articles you write, can be a self.

  61. You may have a great approach of putting points into perspective.

  62. Katniss says:

Make up or not there is nothing she could do to disguise that unfortunate square face and enormous forehead of hers.

i know most women dont look as good without makeup, Goopeth and myself included… but dear lord going out to a public event like that?…

im sorry but unless she gets a head transplant with jessica biel or adriana lima she CANNOT pull of the no makeup look
shes just not a natural beauty and should at least do SOMETHING to fix herself up

a bra would be a good start. You would think a woman as flat as her would be wanting to support and enhance what little chest shes got.. yet i almost never see her wearing a bra at events

    wierd.
