Nick Cannon sets the record straight: no twins, no Santa and no heels

wenn2714774

Nick Cannon just killed my dream. My dream was that Mariah Carey was expecting twin girls, and that she was planning on naming them Butterfly Princess Glitter and Rainbow Sunshine Cupcake. But it was just a lie (not really)! Nick Cannon just confirmed to Us Weekly that he and Mariah are just expecting one baby, not two, and that they don’t know the sex yet. Nick also confirmed a few other things too:

Mariah Carey may be staying mum, but her hubby Nick Cannon wants to clarify something: they’re only expecting one bundle of joy.

“That rumor started because she said something about ‘they,” the comic told UsMagazine.com at the Time Warner Cable Launch of SignatureHome Thursday. “Something like, ‘I hope they don’t hate Christmas,” but she was using the word ‘they’ as in, like, he and she.”

And while Cannon said the pair doesn’t know yet if it’s a boy or a girl, he is coming clean about something else. Yes, he did whisper to Carey’s belly that there is no Santa.

“I got in trouble for that,” he told Us. “I’m a Santa-ologist. At three-years-old my Dad told me there was no Santa. And my wife is Mrs. Christmas, so I have to compromise on that.”

But he’s not willing to budge on his mandate that Carey stick to flats for the remainder of her pregnancy. “Yes, no more heels,” he told Us. “I’m going to make sure of it!”

[From Us Weekly]

I kind of love the idea of Nick trying to order Mariah to give up her heels. That would be like getting Posh Beckham to stop posing so hard, or trying to get Renee Zellweger to stop squinting. The heels (and the too-tight, inappropriate dresses) are what makes Mariah special. If she isn’t tripping all over herself in too-high stripper heels, what is she?

    What!?!?

No Lollipop Fairydust and Rainbow Unicorn Carey Cannon?!?

    Aw, man!

EDIT:”but she was using the word ‘they’ as in, like, he and she.”

Isn’t using “and” still an implication of multiple birth? So does he mean “he OR she?” Ah, well. They’re entertainers, not English teachers, but still…I wish happiness and health for them all.

  2. normades says:

    So happy for her.
Mariah actually looks good in that cape. Jessica Simpson wore one recently and looked just huge.

  3. Cyui says:

Love Mariah and nick Great family!!!

I love the cape too, beautiful. She looks great and cute story.

  4. KJ says:

Yea Jessica did look like a barge in that cape. For some reason Mimi looks much better. Maybe it’s because we know she’s got a case of the babies, and J.Simp just loves food with trans-fat.

  5. JM says:

I have to say it – they seem like a really cute couple. Mariah obvs needs someone who can put up with her insane self, and it seems like she found it.

  6. Johnny Depp's Girl says:

    @ Sigh…. Love that name!!!

I am happy for them, they, those guys, ya’ll, youins and these ones.

  7. la_chica says:

I think it’s like “they” instead of gender specific pronouns like he and she.

Let’s see some recent pics of her-flats or heels? Also, I thought that her foot was naturally shaped for heels…at least that’s what she told Ellen. ha ha ha

  8. ctkat1 says:

I remember some ridiculous interview where Mariah said that even when she wasn’t in heels, she still walked on her tiptoes like she was in them- something about how her feet wouldn’t flatten out anymore.

Best of luck keeping her out of heels, Nick!

  9. danielle says:

That’s pretty sweet. He loves her! I think they are a cute couple.

  10. LolaBella says:

Awww, I can’t help but like these two. They just seem to genuinely care about and actually LIKE each other.

I would have thought that she would have stopped wearing heels after she fell on stage a few months ago.

We’ve got a pool going here and I’m betting it’s a girl just so Mariah can go crazy and design an extravagant over the top Hello Kitty Nursery.

  11. chasingadalia says:

When I saw the “no Santa” part of this headline, I nearly flipped.

Mariah better keep that foot down. Not believing in Santa when you’re little is robbing yourself of so much joy.

  12. Scarlet Vixen says:

I absolutely, positively, 100% agree with no Santa! I actually grew up without Christmas at all (my mum was a lapsed Catholic, my dad a lapsed Jew), and I never ever missed the idea of presents or Santa. I never once felt I was ‘robbed of so much joy.’ (eyeroll)Now that I’m an adult and married with kids of my own I appreciate Christmas, but still dislike Santa. What’s so wrong with children being grateful to the people who actually spent the money & time on their gifts?? Plus, Santa just speaks to how commercialized “Xmas” is and detracts from the “true meaning of Christmas” and all that…

  13. gg says:

I am glad she has him. But not glad she has that awful dress. OY, keep the floppy tatas under cover hon, please! They have outworn their welcome – years ago actually.

  14. Sassy says:

I keep saying it but it’s true – Never liked Mariah but she is growing on me and I like these two as a couple. I bet, even if they have a boy, Mariah will find a way to dress him in leopard print AND sparkles. Ha.

  15. l says:

i am COMPLETELY team NO SANTA!!!!!

It’s a ridiculous notion that I did away with in my house when my kids were very little. Not exactly proud of how I told them, but still….Parents BUST THEIR A$$ to give their kids a Christmas and some creepy fat guy gets the credit? I don’t think so!!!! 🙂

  16. DeE says:

Not to get into a heated debate and to each his/her own # 11 but, why have people/parents made it a habit of “lying” to children about things as Santa and Tooth fairy and such and uphold it as if it is a fact when it isn’t? When the child is then told the “truth” will they not question other things they were led to believe as factual as now not holding any weight? I don’t understand the concept of making an innocent believe something when there are so many things they need to believe from you that shouldn’t be compromised. When some “beliefs” are compromised all beliefs are then questioned. Am i getting it out correctly? This baffles me and even disturbs me. Sorry Santa and Toothfairy believers. Life is too complicated to knowingly muddle things with unnecessary untruths…

  17. Crash2GO2 says:

@gg: I was thinking exactly the same thing. Put them away pretty please. Yikes.

  18. Courtney says:

she’s told that story since her first holiday Special in 1993. here’s a picture of her from the taping of the Disney Christmas day Parade she’s in flats granted it was her second performance All I Want For Christmas Is You she’d worn heals earlier in the day to tape her Oh Santa performance
    .

when she said they in the radio disney interview it was because they don’t know the sex yet and want to keep it private until the baby arrives. they should be entitled to that privacy after having struggled for a successful pregnancy and finally having one which she carries beautifully by the way.

  19. Chica T says:

LOL!! Butterfly Princess Glitter and Rainbow Sunshine Cupcake.

  20. gee says:

On Nick Cannon’s morning show, he keeps calling the baby, “they” and “them.”

Don’t judge me for listening… when z100 goes to commercial I have to do something.

  21. OtherChris says:

I like them together. He seems delightfully whipped, and I mean that in the nicest way.

  22. Maritza says:

They are so good for each other, I’m glad they are happy.

  23. chasingadalia says:

@ Scarlet Vixen: Well, you didn’t need to be rude about it.

  24. Cletus says:

Santa is FUN, that’s why people tell that shit to their kids. I told my daughter that I used to be a pirate before I had her and that my mother -her grandmother- was my first mate who had a wooden leg until we got her a new real leg for Christmas one year. Lying to kids is awesome.

  25. Courtney says:

Nick should keep his mouth shut twins are more likely in mothers over 40 weather they were helped by science or not especially first timers infact the odds in black mothers over 40 is 1 in 50 for twins so they very well could be having twins. but they want to keep certain parts of this precious moment in their lives private which they are entitled to particularly after struggling to be blessed with a child of their own. leave him alone he’s exited about becoming a father

  26. REALIST says:

Her hubby sounds cool. Finally she has a solid, decent, reliable guy (fingers crossed-Tiger Woods has made me skeptical about every man).
I wonder what it’s like to be married to a comic? I wonder what it’s like to have your dad be a comic? Fun, I would think, assuming he’s not extreme (too early, no examples at hand..)

  27. mel says:

I think Nick keeps Mariah grounded. He’s good for her.

  28. Lady LaLa says:

My God, woman. Cover those udders up
    already

  29. Aspie says:

What a genuinely cute couple! Mariah used to irritate me but now she’s grown on me. Best of luck to them and their little bundle of sweetness!

  30. ghoulish_moose says:

She used the word “they” beacause it’s nicer than saying “it” if they dont know the gender yet. When I fall pregnant I want to know what I’m carrying. But till then, i’ll probabaly just refer to them as “bump” =D

I’m really happy for both of them, you can tell they’re over the moon. The amount of times she mentioned it on that QVC thing, she oozes excitement.

  31. becky says:

    @ courtney

what i have always heard is that the chances of ceceiving twins naturally is much lower after the age of 20. Infertility treatments r the reasons we see so many multiple births in women over 40. i remember this from articles when the Jolie got pregnant (i think she was 29?) and there was much speculation about whether or not she had used IVF. Although twins do run in Brad’s side of the family, he has twin nephews. Also I’m sure there is a huge difference in odds for conceiving id vs fraternal twins.

  32. Moops says:

    @becky –

The hereditary link for fraternal twins has to do with the mother, not the father. The mother is the one popping out more than one egg to be fertilized – Brad’s family history of twins would have no effect on that. (And Angie conceived the twins at 32, not 29 – not that it matters!) 🙂

  33. Ruffian9 says:

Re heels or flats; It’s not like she walks anywhere, why does it matter?

  34. slymm27 says:

i hope nick remains a devoted dad when he eventually starts creeping oaround and hanging out with the hos…..

  35. fwozbo says:

Thank you Moops! I always have to explain the same to people who don’t understand fraternal twins.

  36. aenflex says:

I for some unwitting reason adore these two together.

  37. Emily says:

Boo, I had my heart set on Sparkles Blossom Unicorn and Rainbow Butterfly Glitter. So not what I need to read on a Monday!
