I really am excited. Kate Middleton has started working! Huzzah! Today in Wales, Kate Middleton and Prince William stepped out for their first official royal appearance before the public. It was a ceremony for the naming of a lifeboat. For real. They hold ceremonies for that junk! The lifeboat was christened “Hereford Endeavour” with is so, so fancy. I wouldn’t be surprised if Hereford Endeavor joins a fleet of lifeboats with names like Higgenbottom Fancypants and Rumpcrumpet Biscuitshire. Anyhoodle, I guess when you’re christening a smaller vessel, you don’t slam a champagne bottle against the fiberglass hull, you just pour champagne on the hull. Sure.
Prince William and his fiancee Kate Middleton are making their first public appearance together in Wales at a lifeboat ceremony.
The visit has been highly anticipated because the couple have kept such a low profile since announcing their engagement last November, making only one other prior appearance at a charity event.
They plan to marry April 29 at Westminster Abbey.
William is to name the Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Station’s new lifeboat the “Hereford Endeavour” at Thursday’s ceremony. He is an active search-and-rescue helicopter pilot with the Royal Air Force at the Anglesey base in Wales.
The couple will visit their alma mater, the University of St. Andrews in Scotland, on Friday.

So… how did Kate do for her first public outing as a soon-to-be-royal? Lady Biscuits (Kate) did well, I think. She smiled a lot and seemed to be pleased to be there. The Welsh probably already adore her. My only criticism is that she chose this plain beige suit and a funky feather hat. Hatlet. Headpiece. Whatever. Oh, and she looks super-skinny too. She’s losing a lot of weight for her wedding day.

very classy! i like this 50s Grace Kelly look. Hope she maintains this, but also mixes it up with modern twist, now and then, otherwise she would end up looking ‘too safe’ and conventional, which can be really boring for our day and age.
MUST she wear a hat? I like the outfit otherwise. She is getting awfully skinny but I’d do the same thing if I was going to be on display like she’ll be at her wedding. Too bad her face doesn’t seem to be slimming down along with the rest of her….

I agree that a couple pounds wouldn’t hurt her, but I also think she just has really slim hips, which make her look smaller than maybe she really is. If I recall, her legs don’t look overly twiggy when you can see them.
However, I think generally Kate is ADORABLE and I actually love her wardrobe. I myself am drawn to classic, simple lines and colors, so maybe that’s why her outfits do it for me. I really find her cute – in a normal person way and not a movie star way.
I love her outfit including the fascinator (new word for me) too bad she isn’t very pretty. But like someone said above they both look late 30’s so I guess they suit one another. I would be starving myself too if I was about to marry a prince before millions of viewers.
I like Kate’s outfit, very formal and appropriate. I am close to her age and kind of have the same style..her hair looks okay kind of half-curled, but with the wind her hairdo got messed up pretty quickly.

I think she looks great-classic but with a twist (the hat, the booties). She’s not supposed to really be pushing the envelope style-wise as a royal-plus, she has never come across as the flamboyant type-why would she start now with all eyes on her??

I really like the outfit and the fascinator. I like her. I know she is boring but it’s not like the future King of England is going to pick a VS model or a Lindsay or a Christina. She is pretty and classy. He was pushing the envelope enough by picking someone common.

I love the suit and fascinator although the scarf is grandma fail. Otherwise, wow,what happened?! When Kate left college and she and William were enjoying life she was slim and healthy looking. Now she is pinched looking and skeletal and the slightest wind would blow her clean away. Dear God. I hate to say this because I’m very hopeful for this royal couple, but they are reminding me of the Duke and Duchess of Windsor, the king who abdicated and his brittle, skin and bones, fashion plate American wife, the much married Wallis Warfield Simpson.

I guess the look is really classy but that outfit couldn’t be more boring; there’s just nothing there, it’s like a blank canvas. 202 lives have been saved by the RNLI (volunteers) at the small Trearddur Bay Lifeboat Station….not bad for junk. The children of Anglesey named the boat. ‘Hereford’ for the volunteers that come from the Hereford area in England (down the road from my home). If anyone’s interested.
I’m not really in to the royals but I am fond of Anglesey island, it’s beautiful, well worth a visit if you’re in the area.

@Liana – I called them old too at mid-thirties and that will be me in a few months too. Even though I don’t think it is old it is old if you aren’t even 30 and you look 37 or something like that. We can all be real bitchy about celebs when in our own world we aren’t nearly so critical of our peers or friends and family.
I think she looks lovely. She’s prob losing weight for the wedding but it’s probably stress (good or bad stress) and hopefully she’ll stop and eat every now and again.
