Bradley Cooper handed out thousands of dollars worth of coats to the homeless

If you’d like more stories about celebrities doing nice deeds, please comment on this one, even if you’re dissing Bradley Cooper in any other area of his life. The dude is milquetoast but he does random kind deeds, just like his ex girlfriend, Renee Zellweger. I actually like him a lot more after this story, which could be leaked by his publicist but if so they did it expertly. Only the National Enquirer has this news, which makes it sound real to me. I know a lot of you diss the Enquirer, but they get more genuine scoops than the other gossip rags, they just paint everything with the same awesome, sensational brush. I love that rag so much. Anyway supposedly Bradley Cooper was filming in Philadelphia, which is where he’s from, and sent his assistant to buy thousands of dollars of winter coast for the homeless. He then personally handed them out, and when one guy told him he liked his coat, Cooper gave it to him!

The 36 year-old actor, who is filming “The Silver Linings Playbook” in his hometown, Philadelphia, shelled out thousands of dollars on coats, gloves, hats and scarves for the homeless.

“While filming in Philly, Bradley noticed a lot of people shivering on the streets,” a source told The Enquirer.

“He knew that the weather was only going to get worse, with early snowfall and blistering cold temperatures predicted, so he sent his assistant to several discount stores to buy thousands of follars of clothing.

“The Bradley returned to the area and began to hand out the clothing himself…

“One homeless man mentioned that he liked the designer jacket Bradley was wearing,” recalled the source. “It had been given to him by his pal Robert De Niro, but Bradley still gave the guy the coat off his back – literally.”

[From The National Enquirer, print edition, November 21, 2011]

Ok, I was buying this story until they added the detail that Cooper gave a guy the jacket off his back and that it was given to him by De Niro! That’s a little much. Still, if Cooper’s dad used to take him to homeless shelters I could see him going to his hometown, remembering what his dad taught him and wanting to help. Cooper’s dad passed away earlier this year and he started wearing his dad’s wedding ring as a remembrance to him. The guy may have a soft heart underneath that confusing GQ exterior. Plus, this was in The Enquirer, not in one of the publicist approved magazines like People or US. After reading this nice story, I almost forgot that Cooper is fake-dating J.Lo!

I hope he gave away the windbreaker he is wearing in the last pic, because it really doesn’t fit him.
    Nice story though.

  2. Lol says:

I like him so much more now. Its nice to have stories of the rich and famous doing nice deeds, makes them seem more human.

  3. brin says:

Yeah, didn’t need the DeNiro mention, but good on him anyway.

  4. Kait says:

I like the good deed stories. Especially when it seems genuine and not released just for publicity.

  5. ZigZagZoey says:

Yup, I really don’t like him much at all, but if this is true, it’s awesome and I wish to hell that they would all be like that. JLo probably wouldn’t give anyone a turd if they asked. I wish I were rich and could help other people.

  6. Lee says:

Yes, but did he do it while speaking French?

I know people don’t like him for some reason, but I have a soft spot for anyone who used to be on Alias.

  7. inthekitchen says:

I used to think he was a wanna-be player, a big ol’ DBag and overrated and unattractive…but then I saw him (and Ed Helms) on the Graham Norton Show and I completely changed my opinion of him (and of Ed Helms – who I now think is an a-hole DB). Bradley Cooper came off as really down to earth, humble, funny and a lot more interesting than I was expecting.

I think it’s great if this story is true and just makes me like him more!

Um, also…the picture in the tux…YUM! I generally still don’t find him all that attractive but that picture is hot.

  8. Mikki says:

I kind of like the guy, and this sounds like a great thing for him to do!

  9. Kimbob says:

Yes…it’s great he’s giving back. I’m a firm believer in such. Giving is the true way to real happiness.

Even is this was leaked by his publicist…so what? He still did it, and that’s all that matters.

  10. mia girl says:

Good for him – its always nice to read these types of stories.

  11. OhMyMy says:

Yes please on the celebs doing good stories. But only if they seem geniune and not for phoney baloney pr.

    Go Bradley!

  12. Jess says:

I’ve loved him ever since Alias, even if his dating habits do seem a bit odd.

  13. lin234 says:

What a great thing to do!

  14. lucy2 says:

It does sound like a publicist’s write up, but either way, a very nice thing to do.
I liked him a lot from Alias, but once he hit it big, he bugged me for some reason. Like some other celebs, I think it’s his overly obvious PR stuff that bothers me – he might be a really nice guy, who knows.

  15. DorothyZbornak says:

Aw, that’s really nice. It’s a refreshing change to hear stories like this rather than the usual “celebrities being entitled assholes” stories.

  16. Kit says:

Really lovely thing to do, doesn’t seem half as annoying now.

  17. lisa says:

I hope he doesn’t get attacked.. I know some people get really upset when celebrities do things like this and it becomes PUBLIC.

    Good for him..

  18. Heather says:

It’s so nice when celebrities actually go out and do things themselves rather than just go to fancy photo op dinners in the name of charity. Those help too, but I like when they make connections with real people. Bravo!

  19. Julia says:

    What a great gesture !

I always likeD him because he sounds nice, educated and speak two languages at least.

His accent in french is adorable.

  20. sissy says:

Good on him, despite what people say, I’ve always liked him and now I like him even more

  21. bite me says:

    good for coop

  22. RovingLass says:

Would love more of this. Thanks for the spreading the nice. πŸ™‚

  23. Kimble says:

I don’t think the public finding this out is necessarily a bad thing – sometimes we need a little reminder that while we might not be able to spend thousands on coats – most of us could afford to buy at least one to give away!

He doesn’t do a thing for me, but I liked him on Graham Norton too!

  24. Mitch Buchanan Rocks says:

Maybe its the facial expressions but Bradley looks a little like Joe Jonas.

  25. Lani says:

I just love this story…it touched my heart. And that he wears his dad’s wedding ring. Anyway, finally a celebrity that gives back a little bit…I’d love to hear more stories like this.

  26. Dreamyk says:

Good for him. It’s going to be a long cold winter. We need more stories like this. Especially after all the vile things we have read and heard about Ped State this week. Ugh.

  27. danielle says:

Aww, good for him. I always think of him as being a bit of a dick, but maybe that’s just because of Hangover and Wedding Crashers. Maybe he’s just, gasp, a good actor?! Lol! I am now changing my opinion.

  28. K says:

It’s always nice to hear stories about the wealthy giving back.

  29. The Original Mia says:

    Nice story.

  30. Turtle Dove says:

    Wonderful. Brad’s a good guy.

    So nice!

  33. Ais says:

    Definitely more of this. πŸ™‚

  34. tara says:

I always appreciate charitable action, no matter who is responsible!

  35. Stellax2 says:

Cooper did give away winter coats in conjunction with a homeless shelter. Also, he worked in a soup kitchen two times when he has some down time.

  36. Zigggy says:

    Awww.

  37. Rachel says:

I don’t care for him, but I’d definitely like to see more stories like this!

  38. Sophie says:

    Still a douche.

  39. Meghna says:

LOVE IT! Famous folks do PR stunts all the time, wish more were like this. Not saying that’s what this is, but it’s so much better then a fake marriage!

  40. Sparkly says:

I would definitely love to hear more about nice celebrities.
