Last week, a handful of blogs got access to new photos of ex-spouses Michael C. Hall and Jennifer Carpenter looking especially chummy and affectionate together in LA. It’s not like they were at work – they apparently just went out to eat together, not caring if they were photographed. It warmed my heart a little bit, mostly because I actually liked both of them, and their divorce had made me think that Hall was rather skeevy. I was also thinking to myself, “Watch out girl.” Because Jennifer Carpenter really loved the hell out of Michael, I believe, and I think she got her heart broken really badly with whatever went down. In any case, Us Weekly’s print edition has this little blurb about what’s going on with them these days, and it seems like Michael might still be a d-bag.
Exes Jennifer Carpenter and Michael C. Hall seemed very friendly February 8, snuggling as they watched the sunset in LA’s Venice Beach. The Dexter costars were affectionate during a January 18 coffee date and hung out at Amanda Seyfried’s December birthday bash (just days after their divorce was finalized!).
So what’s up with their relationship staus? In a word: complicated.
Carpenter recently split with a new beau “and is desperate to get back with Michael,” says an insider.
“Their friends think they’re sleeping together. But he’s not into commitment.”

“…But he’s not into commitment”???? He’s been married twice!!! Why get gun-shy now? Besides that, their divorce JUST became final. It’s not like Jennifer is begging for another ring (hopefully she’s not). Maybe she just loves him and wants to be a part of him life? The big douchenozzle. I can’t believe he’d play Deb like that.

Hmm, so was Julia Stiles just his mid-life crisis?
Other than Lainey’s less-than-blind vice, there was never ‘any’ evidence that Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles had an affair. Other gossip columnists got the ‘Hall/Stiles Affair’ call too, but they (wisely) decided to sit on it until better proof than someone on set saying that Michael looked at Julia’s butt and an undocumented report (not even a cell phone picture) that they attended a Haloween party together in New York City in the midst of their filming schedule in Long Beach. To date, there has never been one picture of Michael C. Hall and Julia Stiles any where but on the set of “Dexter.” They had chemistry (it’s called acting), so (I think) people assumed.
When Jennifer Carpenter filed divorce papers three days after Lainey’s Blind Vice listing August 8, 2010 as their separation date, the other gossip columnists (mainly Ted Cassablanca) were glad they had sat on the rumor. Lainey tried to save face by saying that Michael C. Hall had paid Jennifer to say that their separation date was earlier than November/December 2010.
I think they separated because Michael’s bout with Cancer scared him and he decided he didn’t want to pass the Cancer gene on to his kids. His father died of Cancer at the age of 39, and I think his mother has had Cancer as well. They obviously still loved each other, because Michael visited her in New York City a month after she filed for divorce during her play run.
It’s interesting to me how quick we are to vilify the man whenever a couple splits. You’re right, other than baseless rumors, we don’t know what went down. It was even reported that they were fighting on set etc., but I saw video footage (youtube) of them hanging out together during her play run and they looked very affectionate with each other. Would she really be this chummy with him after their divorce if he had had an affair? I think not. We don’t know the reason why they decided not to be married any more and we probably never will. But based on their behaviour towards each other both during and after the divorce I’m going to say with confidence that there was no third party. Oh and ‘friends’ speculating that they might be sleeping together does not make him a douchebag.

I do think Jennifer loves him though or at least very loyal to him. Nowadays you get celebs and politicians leaving their spouses when sh*t hits the fan (so to speak) but she stayed with him through his cancer ordeal.
I get the warm fuzzies thinking of them back together, I hope it works out.
On a kinda unrelated topic, is anyone else concerned about how skinny Jennifer was looking in the last season of Dexter? I know I was, it looked a little scary 🙁
I think she has ALWAYS been way too skinny, to the point that it makes me uncomfortable to watch her. That, and the fact that I really dont like her character at all.
I really like them both and I like them together so I hope they work something out. I never got the impression that someone ‘broke’ someone else’s heart. Hall went through cancer and a very serious illness like that can ruin a relationship. I’ve seen it happen all around me again and again and again. He’s okay now though so all the best to them.
Yeah I agree, they went through a lot of difficulties early into their relationship. I do not even remember a real reason being confirmed for their break up, just that Julia stiles rumor but that never really panned out like I had hoped.
I do not think Michael C. Hall is a douche bag, I think its pretty unjustified to jump to that conclusion when we really don’t know their relationship at all…unlike other Celebrity couples.
Yes, I really, really hope they succeed as a couple. I don’t know why I feel so strongly about that, but I do, lol.
Publicly they have both said that they will always love each other and will remain the best of friends. Maybe this is one of the very few divorced couples that actually meant it.
I really like her and wish she would move on. I don’t think this will end well 🙁

I dunno. I liked them, I was sad when they split and pleased they so obviously kept it amicable. He could’ve had her fired, had he chosen, to be fair to the guy. They have no show without him. I like that they seem to have such a connection, whatever happened between them in private. I hope they work it out in a way that suits them, as a couple or as friends.

They looked so happy at that award show. Michael won an award (Emmy or Golden Globe?). He still had cancer then. Sad.

I really, really like her. A Lot. Unfortunately, she is one of those women who tends to have major bitch face if she doesn’t show her teeth when she smiles. I feel bad, b/c I think she is not that way, and probably doesn’t feel like putting a big, fake smile on all the time. But the top pic doesn’t really do her justice, whereas the one in the green and black striped shirt does.
I know nitpicky, but I feel bad for her, seems nice enough.

That’s adorable. MCH is a great actor, I hope he gets out of Dexter and into some more movies. Preferably with serial killers in them.

It’s nice to hear they’re trying to work things out… they seem to make a nice enough couple. But I can’t help but wish he’d just Dexter her ass on the show already – Deb has got to be one of the most annoying characters EVER!
I was also super bummed when these two broke up. I hope he’s not a douchebag … his alleged affair with Julia Stiles certainly suggests otherwise, but I know there HAS to be more than meets the eye with that whole divorce situation … and maybe if we had the whole story, it would make more sense? And we wouldn’t think MCH was such a d-bag? Maybe it was like Ross and Rachel, “We were on a break!?” Maybe I’m just being naive.

p.p.s. I HATE HATE HATE what the writers did with Dexter (the entire show) this past season. Awful. And what they did to the character of Deb. A total abomination. I might have to cancel my season pass. I’m not sure yet.
I dislike her character so much on Dexter that I find it difficult to like her as actress. Plus I think she looks anorexic.
