Cher tried to contact Adele, but Adele wouldn’t return Cher’s phone calls

I keep forgetting that Cher has a Twitter account. It’s true. It seems like she mostly uses it to converse with her fans and friends and at times to discuss politics in that hard-to-read text-speak. Apparently, she’s also been using her Twitter feed to drop hints about her new album, which will probably be coming out at some point this year, maybe in the summer. Cher was hoping to collaborate with some of the younger girls for this album, but she was thwarted by the one lady she really wanted: Adele! According to the National Enquirer, Cher tried to contact Adele, to ask Adele to collaborate on just one song… and Adele wouldn’t even call Cher back. But Lady Gaga called back, and now Cher and Gaga are collaborating. And now Cher is all about Gaga and she hates Adele. Or something.

Cher is going gaga over Lady Gaga – but she gagging over Adele! Gaga happily stepped in to help Cher with her final career comeback album after Adele turned her down. Cher was “over the moon” when Gaga offered up the song, “The Greatest Thing,” as a duet with her her for her new album, Cher’s 26th, said an insider.

Cher first met Gaga at the 2010 MTV VMAs – at the time, Gaga was wearing a dress made out of meat.

When Cher – incensed by Adele’s snub – got the news that Gaga was going to write a song to sing with her, she tweeted that she could “hardly wait” for “The Greatest Thing” to come out. On the other hand, Cher has nothing but disdain for Adele.

“Cher would have moved mountains to get Adele to write her a song or just sing a chorus on her album, but Adele wouldn’t even return her calls,” said the insider. “Cher is acting as if she doesn’t care about Adele’s rejection, but deep down she’s absolutely fuming!”

“Cher’s thrilled that Gaga stepped up to help,” said the insider. “But she’s insulted that Adele has no interest in contributing.”

[From The Enquirer, print edition]

Well, a collaboration between Cher and Gaga just makes more sense in general. Adele and Cher… well, that would have been interesting, but I get the feeling that Adele doesn’t want to do a lot of musical “stunts” you know? Plus, it’s perfectly possible that Cher tried to contact Adele when she was in and out of the hospital for her vocal chord surgery and Adele was simply incapable of speaking to her (or anyone). That was all going down for Adele last fall and winter, you know. Anyway, I’m sure everybody will love Cher and Gaga’s song.

I hate Gaga. I hate her music and her voice. The only thing I am OK with is her support for victims of bullying and hate crimes.

Is Adele’s music even in the same genre as Cher’s. Cher does club stuff, right?

I don’t understand why celebrities demand for other celebrities to jump in and help their dying career, i mean if Adele didn’t want to write a song or sing with Cher, she shouldn’t be given a hard time, she can do what she wants! I don’t think Adele needs to be seen collaborating with other artists to boost her career, she’s perfectly fine on her own in my opinion. so Cher please keep fuming because you’re behaving like a spoilt brat.

    • Moi says:

How many friggin final tours and final comebacks is she gonna have? Way past time to retire. Lady Gaga is the new version of Cher and Madonna.

If Adele wants to collaborate, fine. If she doesn’t, fine. This isn’t even newsworthy.

    • Candyland says:

Luv Adele and never heard of this weird looking grandma.

    • Enny says:

I think the issue isn’t that Adele wouldn’t collaborate with Cher, but that she was rude for being too good to respond (or have her people respond) to a musical legend.

      • deehunny says:

yea, seriously. I think it’s funny how the post was making excuses for Adele not getting back to Cher. Even if that was the case you can always get a person on your “team” to call her back

    Why Cher, Why?!!!

I grew up watching the Sonny & Cher show. I cheered for her and her outlandish style she brought to the Oscars during her “Mask” & “Moonstruck” years. I bowed to her for having the courage to show off her 40 year old butt in her music video (it was shocking at the time). But now, Cher has become a giant parody of herself. She went to far with the plastic surgery and as much as I admire her for staying in shape, a woman in her 60’s shouldn’t be dressing like an aging biker barfly.

I’m sure the song will be a commercial success but that speaks more to the bottom feeding music industry rather than music itself.

This news was almost as cringeworthy as Clint Eastwood’s reality show.

I applaud Cher for all the boundaries she’s broken, and she has worked hard long enough….Cher, it’s time for you to put on some decent clothes that are within normal standards–say, 10+ years of your age, sit down in the shade somewhere and just enjoy your time left in the world, k? Let the young’uns take over.

  4. Chelle says:

Majorly excited about Cher and Lady Gaga!!that is bound to be be an awesome track…as for Adele, I think she is too busy tring to lose weight before she can even be seen next to any slim person

    • paola says:

If there is someone out of the 2 concerned with their looks it should be Cher, not Adele.. and i’d like to remind you that Adele is a singer, a very good one, not a model, so she should be able to perform in any shape or form without facing any judgment..Cher on the other side is fooling herself trying to convince us all that she is still a 25 years old.. and all this big fuss about coreographies, costumes, backdancers and loud backup music it’s only to disguise the fact that they can not properly sing, not talking about Cher now, but about lady gaga, katy perry, rihanna. that’s a reason why everyone talks only about their boobs or the drama they always put into presenting themselves on a red carpet. Adele just brings her voice to every event and she wins all the time. So cher, please move along, it’s time to retire.

      • megs says:

DING DING DING Paola but I think adele could be a model she is gorgeous.

      • Justinc says:

Lady Gaga disguising the fact that she cant sing ?? Shes a great singer, and even better performer.. And as far as the red carpet she didnt even walk it this year !! But adele is a great artist + i dont even see what Lady Gaga has to do with the situation ?

    • atorontogal says:

What does her weight have to do with her beautiful voice? Why does weight and looks always enter in to things these days? Adele outsings Cher and GaGa in every way. Period!

  5. megs says:

Am I the only one that thinks Cher and Madonna need to just stop it? It’s to the point where both of them are old enough to have grandchildren and in Cher’s case, adult grandchildren. It’s just bizarre and off putting seeing them in bedazzled thongs, dancing around like they are 18 years old at a fetish club. There isn’t anything wrong with toning it down, covering it up, and singing more mature music. Imagine if Barbra Streisand made songs about shaking her butt in a club (ok that would be pretty badass). Half of the time they are trying to prove they “still got it” and look good for their age, but they don’t. They don’t look good for potatoes age with the amount of surgery they have both had.

    • hunter says:

Yup. I agree. It’s a bit sad but maybe they just don’t know what else to do!

They’ve been doing it their whole lives and probably can’t imagine NOT working on this stuff.

Madonna should probably hang it up though, the sex stuff is getting a bit overdone. (a bit?!?)

  6. lucy2 says:

The base story might be true, but the “fuming” reaction sounds overblown.

I think everyone wants a piece of Adele, to hitch their star to hers. I hope she ignores it all and just does what she wants to do.

  7. kristipistol says:

If Adele didn’t win all those grammys, it would be Cher doing the snubbing. Now she wants to feed off of Adele’s success. Gaga and Cher deserve each other

    • Justinc says:

Gaga has her own fucking grammys + i really dont see what she has to do with the situation !!! Shes a bigger artist than both adele + cher

  8. lisa says:

Lady Gaga and Cher collaborating make much more sense than Cher doing something with Adele. In any case Adele is not obligated to work with anyone and I can only imagine how awkward it is having to turn down someone you don’t feel like working with who may be famous but is a stranger essentially.

  9. OXA says:

Adele may have thought it was a joke someone was trying to make at her expense. Maybe she thought it was a set up and refused to bite or she just likes being a solo artist.

  10. D1 says:

That first picture of Cher – all I can think is, “That’s why her hair is so big, it’s full of secrets.”

  11. cutelittlehappything says:

Um…I hate to point this out, but it seems that Adele didn’t “turn her down” she flat out ignored her. If it were any other artist, wouldn’t we be hearing about how rude she or he was for not acknowledging the offer? But with Adele, she may have been sick, or thought it was a joke, or….? I’m no fan of Cher, but Cher’s on her 26th album and Adele’s had 2. I don’t think Cher needs to ride Adele’s coattails. This Adele worship is making me dislike her.

    • Kate #2 says:

I dislike her because she had a massive hissy fit about her tax bill. She made millions and millions, and in this country for about a nanosecond people were taxed at 50% on earnings over £150,000. (Earnings below that were taxed at 40%, and earnings below £44k at 25%. So she had the same tax allowances as everyone else.)

In the middle of a huge economic crisis, when cuts are savagely hitting some of the poorest people in our society, to whine that you “only” made 4 million in one year is breathtaking. Especially as her sales were and are still growing. Exactly how much money can one person need?

  12. jen says:

    LOLz!

  13. Lisa says:

If that’s a recent picture, I feel sorry for her. She used to be gorgeous, now she looks like a parody of her former self.

  14. Amanda G says:

I don’t want Adele to go the “collaboration” route unless its with Tony Bennett. That would be awesome!

  15. Hmmm says:

    User.

  16. sup says:

cher isn’t all that. gaga would be an appropriate choice, they’re both full of image and gayxploitation (yeah i made this term up but i think it’s the best word to describe what gaga does tbh)

  17. hillbillygirl45 says:

I love Adele’s voice, she gives me cold chills she’s so good. I also grew up watching Sonny and Cher and loved Cher…don’t have much of an opinion on Gaga. That said, IMO, Cher needs to put some clothes on, and just stop it. She doesn’t need the money, or the fame, she’s had a long very successful career, it’s just time to call it a day. She’s damn near become a parody of her younger self, (WAY too much crap done to her face), and if she’s not careful, she’s gonna make a complete ass out of herself. I’m just sayin’…

  18. jferber says:

I don’t get all the negative talk about Cher. She is an icon and a legend. No one told Frank Sinatra to stop singing and doing what he always did in his 80’s. Part of Cher being Cher is her look. It’s totally her call if she wants to continue that look into her 60’s. Age-appropriateness has its limits, too. Cher is an entertainer, not a Wall Street executive. SO you rock on, Cher. And Adele SHOULD have contacted Cher, even to turn her down. Common courtesy to a fellow professional and a trailblazer.
