Video of Madonna promoting her book on the Home Shopping Network

Madonna seems uncomfortable at first in this appearance on the Home Shopping Network. She soon gets into her haughty stride, talking down her nose in her faux-Brit speak about how Lourdes helped her with these books, and how she came up with her nefarious plan to convert a new generation of vulnerable young girls to her cult religion.

You can watch the rest of the interview on YouTube:

Proceeds from the books are being donated to “Raising Kabbalahan Malawians” or whatever Madonna’s charity is called.

OK, Im not much of a fan of Madonna but c’mon give her a break. She does not have a faux-brit accent and she doesn’t sound haughty at all. She sounds normal to me. If she does occasionally pronounce a few words with a British inflection it is because she lives in the UK and even the most American of us tend to start sounding slightly like the locals after a while, especially if you have school aged children who are learning to speak that way as well.

I myself am an American living in the UK and my accent has become much less American and more British over the years. More so now that my daughter is in school and is learning to pronounce things the British way and expects me to do so as well.

I dont think she sounds haughty in the interview. She just answered honestly. Give the girl a break. Its bad enough nobody would buy her book in the shops and she has had to resort to hawking it on the Home Shopping Network!

I totally understand that it’s impossible not to get some accent, without even trying. People will always slam you for it but if you don’t adapt a bit, the locals will point it out too. It’s a no win situation. She doesn’t sound phony to me, just very much Madonna, trying to sound sophisticated.
