    hahaha.

    bitch move.love.it.

    • corny says:

both of them are overrated, madonna was stealing from everyone in her hay day, at least gaga has some vocal chords, but is just too full of her bad self..wonder what cyndi lauper has to say about it all

      • skuddles says:

Exactly! Madonna has stolen every creative idea she’s ever had from other artists – and that most definitely includes Cyndi Lauper.

      • sarahtonin says:

Yep! She was really good at taking something from the street or club and making it her thing, but she stole them all. She’s just jealous someone else is beating her at her own game. Bitching about it just makes her look old and bitter. She’s had a good run, time to hand over the baton.

  2. Trish says:

just ego talking…. there is more than enough money to go around and Madonna has ALOT of it… whether Gaga released a near identical song or someone just remade the original, a new generation heard a new version and loved it. Imitation is the sincerest form of flattery and Madonna had her time in the sun and has millions. It’s time for her to step back, retire, and let the younger talent step forward. enough with the ego already!

    • LucyOriginal says:

It’s a great form of flaterry when acknowledging the original, non? As far as I know, gaga never acknowledged imitating Madonna. I guess gaga never did because she is super original *eye roll*

      • Jayna says:

She didn’t and when everyone was comparing it, she in a passive-aggressive diss thanked Whitney for inspiring her when she was writing Born This Way. It was do bizarre and a transparent way of distancing herself as far away from Madonna as she could for that song.

      • LucyOriginal says:

If gaga acknowledged copying “express youself”, does it mean she has to acknowledge all artists from the 80s and early 90s she copied? It’s a long list…

      • Tiffany says:

Madonna took her idea from the Staples Sister’s song “Respect Yourself”. Is Madge ever going to acknowledge where the idea originally came from? Gaga borrowed chords, but Madge borrowed my more, considering the lyrical similarities.

      • only1shmoo says:

Yeah, but in all fairness, Madonna’s “Express Yourself” was just a rip-off of “Respect Yourself” by the Staple Singers, so Madonna has no right to criticize here.

    • Tiffany says:

Music repeats itself ALL the time. For example, “Dani Californication” by the Red Hot Chili Peppers is the same chord progression as “Last Dance with Mary Jane” by Tom Petty. Musicians know this, because in western music there is a limited number of chords to work with. (And Gaga has said so many times that she has been influenced by Madonna, it isn’t really a secret she has been a life long fan).

Madonna is just being petty, IMO. This is beating a dead horse.

    • LucyOriginal says:

      oh well…

    • Jayna says:

Retire? Her concert looks phenomenal from the rehearsal clips leaked, even grainy. There is a lot of artistry put into this one. The concert is expected to gross $500 000 and be one of the top grossing concerts. Madonna puts all her energy into her tours and it’s why people keep paying the big money to see her She is usually worth it.

      • Adrien says:

Jayna, it’s not about the money. If you are doing the same thing, cashing in on the same schtick and now ripping off the artist who ripped you off for publicity’s sake then yeah, I agree, she should retire. How is she different from the band Journey or Nickleback?

    • Karen says:

Madonna looks and sounds great- younger stars should hope their careers will have the longevity of hers, so step back with those ageist comments.

    • StopItLuke says:

The ones that say imitation is the best form of flattery are never usually the ones being imitated… funny that.

    • Karen says:

They should do a duet- blending the song actually made it better!

      • Kasey says:

I was thinking along similar lines. Gaga should have come out with this as a duet w/ Madge. That would have been so cool having them both prancing around singing “she’s not me” alternately. Addressing the issue, but not really in a way that put it to rest once and for all. So sad Madge had to be the one to do it. Also, doesn’t it sound like she’s singing “respect yourself”? I’m not familiar with Madge, Gaga or Staples Sisters but is that a mash-up of all THREE? If so, is Madge showing a sense of humor while acknowledging her borrowing from the Staples Sisters? Anyway, I love it! Madge never fails to amuse.

      • gg says:

I have to agree there. My ears have gotten very tired of the old version.

People seem to have forgotten also that hello, Gaga can actually sing, whereas Madge? CANNOT. That is all.

    • Eleonor says:

This time I’m team Madonna (even If I think her latest album sucks) because Gaga announced her Born this way album like something which was going to change the history, and she came out with a Madonna rip-off.
      Team old bitch!

    • Gia says:

But gaga didn’t just copy a song…it was her whole persona, look, attitude. That whole suffering in NY crap..my god she came from a super wealthy family. I’m glad Madonna is biting back. Born this Way just took the whole thing too far…so blatant.

      • Minty says:

        @Gia

Yeah, and Madonna came from a middle class family. Her father was a design engineer for the auto industry. A widower/single parent, he could afford to raise 6 children and employ a maid (whom he later married and had 2 more children with). Madonna’s story about how she arrived in New York City with only $35 is a myth, according to her brother Christopher. She never experienced chronic poverty. She received financial support from her father before she became famous. She has lied and said other contradictory things before.

Madonna is just as derivative as Gaga. She regularly borrowed her “persona, look, attitude” from Marilyn Monroe, Marlene Dietrich, and other Old Hollywood stars and stole ideas from other musicians. I could write a long list. People complain about Beyonce, but if the internet had been around then, Madonna would not have gotten away with all her thievery.

Madonna hires the best people to produce her albums, write her songs, choreograph her perfomances, and stage her concerts, but of the two, Gaga is the one with actual vocal talent (doesn’t need studio help to fix her voice) and can truly play an instrument.

  3. Dorothy#1 says:

Good for Dominic Monaghan!! Glad some people can speak the truth!! <3

    • kay says:

      amen.

and I can’t believe this story wasn’t the headline!!
      great tweets- no hold barred.

      • Dorothy#1 says:

I was thinking the same thing!!

      • LucyOriginal says:

OMG! I read Dominic ‘s responses to the Lost fan on twitter…He got balls! lol

By the way, I am not laughing at the situation or what he said. But I am laughing at the girl for defending Matthew Fox and even making childish comparison between Fox and Monaghan looks. Ridiculous! So glad I no longer have twitter!

      • LucyOriginal says:

I am surprised no one is talking about it. He even told another Lost fan to f*** off because she was (apparently) insulting him and then tried to follow him. Wow!

ps: I don’t know if this other lost fan was involved in the first discussion.

      • Dorothy#1 says:

LOL this makes me wish I HAD twitter!!!

    • Esmom says:

Yes, love that he went out on a limb like that. Guess they won’t be working together anytime soon. Although M. Fox doesn’t seem to be working much at all, period.

Nice to see another Lost story, and Charlie’s final scenes still make me tear up even thinking about them.

      • LucyOriginal says:

oh that see was wonderfully shot. Charlie’s was one of my favorites in Lost.

I always wondered why M. Fox was not working. Is he difficult to work with? Now we hear these stories…sad, just sad…

    • marie says:

agreed. although I just realized that I have no idea how twitter works, it took me forever to read the tweets, I feel old..

    • Adrien says:

I follow Dominic Monaghan…not on twitter, I follow him around. I am stalking him. No, seriously, he’s my fave hobbit. Like Megan Fox, he donated his Eminem video TF to some women’s organization. I’m not shocked he is calling Matthew Fox out.

    • Eve says:

My jaw dropped when I saw that on Dlisted.

Let’s hope he won’t backpedal on this.

  4. Jayna says:

I love the mashup. Madonna always does mashups in concert or sames a song. I think it sounds great. My Gaga friends going say, great, because they love the song and hope it is meant in a playful way.

    • gg says:

I’d like to think so, but I seriously doubt it. Madonna does not make “light” statements.

And I totally agree with the below statements that she really shouldn’t give a toss about Gaga and should ignore her if she doesn’t like being copied, etc. By bringing it to light, one notes the comparisons, which are unflattering to Mdna.

  5. UniqJaz says:

But honestly, why does Madonna care so much? Shouldn’t her own career speak for itself. People with brains can tell if someone is copying someone else. She is being soo elementary school about lady gaga.

    • LucyOriginal says:

Why does she care? to be controversial and people talk about her like we are all doing it. That’s all. She knows how to manipulate media and her audience, doesn’t she?

      • StopItLuke says:

+1 Besides minor irritation at having a wannabe stalker like Gaga I can’t imagine Madonna cares, why would she when she’s still making $500,000,000 which is more than Gaga ever will… She’s manipulating the media and they’re falling for it.

      • deep says:

Yes..Madonna wants people talking about her. I think she is getting ready to go out on tour again isn’t she? So, I am sure we will be hearing a lot about her in the days and weeks to come. Gotta create some buzz. That’s the way the game is played. they removed the recoding before I got to hear it. 🙁

    • Tiffany says:

And this is pretty hypocritical too, considering that Madge got her version of the song from the Staples Sister’s “Respect Yourself”…Express Yourself wasn’t original even when Madonna did it.

      • LucyOriginal says:

Lady gaga doesn’t only copy a song, she copies everything from everyone: looks, atittude, fake life story, etc.

For the record: I am not a fan of any of them (I do respect Madonna for being in the business and original at least 95% of the time). But never ever liked this pseudo artist called lady gaga. Thanks! Let’s rest this case.

      • Tiffany says:

Madonna was 95% original? She can’t have “Frozen” played in Denmark because of PLAGERISM!

Plus, she copied Marlene Deitrich, Marilyn Monroe, etc. Madonna used to be fun, but now that she is getting so grumpy her hypocricy is losing its charm.

  6. The Original Mia says:

Damn, Dom! This made me like you a helluva lot more than I did.

  7. the original bellaluna says:

I ADORE that pic of Pink carrying Willow with little Willow’s hand on Mama’s breast – breast-fed babies do that often when they want to feel secure. (Do NOT attack me; my son’s pediatrician told me that.) The pics of them on the beach are adorable too!

I’ve always liked Dominic. He’s just risen even higher.

    • LucyOriginal says:

I always liked him too! when his character in lost “charlie” died, I was so sad.

  8. SirSnarksalot says:

This just reminds me of All About Eve….Madonna is replaced by GaGa and Paris is replaced by Kim Kardashian. And the world keeps turning.

    • deep says:

      🙂

    • ZenB!tch says:

Sadly Paris and Kim are more interesting. Madonna is soooo passe and Gaga is such a caricature of a performance artist but alas, she doesn’t do anything scandalous in real life to make her interesting.

  9. Kim says:

I didnt believe all the hype way back when about Express Yourself and Born This Way being the same song until I heard this.

  10. ssa says:

andrew garfield looks meh bc he is the definition of meh. two week expired wonder bread has more appeal.

    • ZenB!tch says:

I saw the Spiderman 3D movie trailer this week. Meh was exactly my reaction. He’s totally not hot – but the effects looked really good. Granted Spiderman is not supposed to be hot so I liked him in the role. He’s a lot less offensive looking and a lot less whiny than Tobey McGuire.

      Meh > Eeew!

  11. Jayna says:

The Little Monsters are having a meltdown. They are a hateful bunch. ( not all, just the rabid ones). I noticed them in 2010 when they went after Christina Aguilera with a vengeance and was never so put off by a fanbase that was delusional. They think every popstar is copying Gaga and go to other popstars, like Britney’s YouTube videos, dissing them, praising Gaga. Some call for the death of Madonna over this.

    • LucyOriginal says:

meltdown, tantrum, you named it! hahaha. It’s just fun to watch!

Madonna, you got what you wanted it. People are talking about it! 🙂

    • StopItLuke says:

LOL they are so pathetic, they claim everyone copies Gaga when Gaga is the biggest thief of all…
One time I saw them saying a Bjork video was ripped off from Gaga when the video was out before Gaga even was lmao

  12. StopItLuke says:

She’s not covering Gaga she’s doing a mashup of “Express yourself” and “BTW” to show how Gaga ripped her off and then she performed “She’s not me” after lmao…
All the lil monsters will be mad about it but IDGAF, Gaga needs to go find some originality and stop copying other artists.

    • gg says:

I think everybody should really just keep a sense of humor about it. This is not worth getting them all in a twist about.

  13. Medusa says:

Ha ha Madonna, what a bitch, the real deal.

Gaga is a fake bitch who pretends not to be a bitch who’s pretending she’s a bitch.

  14. Madpoe says:

ahhh! Mariah & Nick’s babies are cute!
But WTF is up with Depp’s little girl dressing like that! And Vanessa, sorry, but looks meth-ish in that pix!

  15. sup says:

ok we get it, gaga copied your age old song after her record company wanted her to be the new you. a little too late to react after remaining silent and ‘classy’ for over a year.

    • gg says:

She’s just got to pick up that dusty poker and poke … can’t restrain herself any longer. Too bad.

  16. FreeSpiritedGirl says:

Madonna, just admit it that your days are over and you’re no longer a favorite of youths of this generation. It’s time Grandma. Leave Lady Gaga alone. LOL!
P.s. We would love to see your daughter become a popstar. She’s cute. 🙂

  17. Happy21 says:

The video is no longer available…

So my take on this from the beginning was that I never understood how people can claim that Gage ripped Madonna off with Born this Way. I didn’t think it sounded anything like Express Yourself and I still don’t.

I love Madonna. I got her first album when I was 5 and didn’t stop until my late 20’s. I also really like Gaga and I honest to God never thought the two sounded the same.

Apparently though I would have been able to hear the similarities if I listened to this. Now I can’t!

    • gg says:

I didn’t really think they sounded that much alike either. The chords are the same but the melodies are completely different – and Gaga sings better.

  18. Nicole says:

Madonna has copied plenty of people. How can she get upset when someone copies her? At least Gaga has talent.

  19. HappyJoyJoy says:

I love how she ends with “She’s not me” I love nothing more than an upbeat passive aggressive bitch fight. Will they fight with opposing armies of gays while they glitter bomb each other? Prepare the disco balls. Shit’s about to get real… dance-y

  20. Lisa says:

Yawn. I used to be really into this x copied y debate, but when you get down to it, there is no originality. It’s all media trying to pit this artist against that one, when there’s no real feud at all. Unless someone blatantly copies someone to the point that it’s like a step-by-step ripoff, who cares?

  21. Lisa says:

@skuddles: she definitely did! They ended up influencing one another throughout the 80’s, but that look was Cyndi’s to begin with: There are pictures of her from 1981 performing with Blue Angel with a modified version of the look that made her famous. She didn’t have the crazy hair yet though it was orange), but the clothes were there. Madonna’s style when she debuted in ’82 had none of that.

    • skuddles says:

Lisa, hate to admit I’m this old… 🙂 but I do remember the onset of Cyndi Lauper’s and Madonna’s careers. I recall thinking Madonna was just a cheesy rip off artist of miniscule talent. I wasn’t a huge Lauper fan but it bugged me that she was later forgotten as Madonna’s fame grew to gargantuan proportions; I always considered Lauper the more authentic and more talented of the two. Still do.

      • Lisa says:

I liked Madonna for a time, but Cyndi won me over. I met her a few years ago and she is the cutest little thing still!

      • skuddles says:

You met Cyndi Lauper??? Do tell! I’ve always had the impression that she’s a genuine type, a trust artist minus the big artist ego.

  22. Norma says:

everyone’s copied everyone. david bowie copied popol vuh. bob dylan copied that bluegrass guy from the 30’s. There isn’t anywhere left to go. it’s all sponsorship and big money now. They have no right to complain as artists about plagiarism, they have nothing to plagiarise really, and what little there is they need to take on the chin. Lord knows they make enough and are not unknown to disappoint from time to time. Perspective needed.

  23. deep says:

Madonna’s last album bombed. Please, tell me…who listens to Madonna?? I will give credit where credit is due, she looks better than she ever has. Everybody loved to dance to Madonna’s music in the 80’s/90’s. But, who is her audience now??

    • Jayna says:

Well, stadiums full of people still see her all ages. I am in my 30s, and my friends and I will be there. She always tours in support if the new album, playing nine songs and the rest of her songs are scattered from 2008 to the ’80s, but only a few from the ’80s. She she isn’t an oldies goldies act. People still go knowing they will hear a lot of newer music, Very few acts her age can get away with that. U2 is llike her. But most are reduced to a nostalgia act.

MDNA will still sell several million. It’s already sold 1.2 or 1.4 million worldwide. Hardly a failure. Just a failure for Madonna. But older artists have to face
lower sales. Bono was disappointed in their sales, but their tours are still massive. If Madonna would focus solely on a sophisticated pop album next time I still think she can pull better numbers.

  24. Str8Shooter says:

The old hag is just jealous cuz no one bought her crappy new CD. And GaGa has all the fame and popularity that she once had.

Madonna miffed at someone ripping HER off? Now that’s rich!

    Marilyn Monroe, anyone???

    • StopItLuke says:

This is what makes me laugh, people that think Madonna actually even cares about “MDNA” album sales… If she had cared she’d have done more than ONE SINGLE PERFORMANCE to promote it, instead she’s going on annother record breaking tour (her last was the biggest by any solo artist ever) which is set to rake in $500,000,000 a sum Gaga could never get and if she’d spent all that time promoting the album and it’d sold a huge amount like 10m copies she’d have made what… $10m? Madonna has brains.

      • Minty says:

Musical performers make the bulk of their fortune from concerts/touring, not album sales. Of course, Madonna will focus more on her upcoming tour. She’s all about the money. She is shallow and greedy. Here’s a woman who had the nerve to lecture the public about materialism when she was promoting her “American Life” album. How hypocritical, coming from someone who owns several mansions, wears fur, and employs an entourage of nannies, security people, assistants, publicists, and lawyers. She opened a chain of gyms in Mexico only the rich can afford, and she insisted on seeing photos of prospective clients before granting membership.

And she’s a trend follower, too: pushing her clothing line and perfume when other celebrities did it years before she did.

The millions she makes touring doesn’t equal artistic talent, nor does it mean relevance in today’s pop music. McDonald’s sells billions of burgers and no one calls their food cuisine. Madonna’s loyal fan base attend her concerts for the nostalgia factor. It’s the same with Barbra Streisand and The Rolling Stones (who are miles more talented than Madonna). Young people aren’t interested in her new music. Radio doesn’t play her new songs.

  25. Paige says:

Yes lady gaga did rip off madonna song madonna will always be the queen of pop. The point is Madonna is being a petty childish bitch. She does this everytime she releases a new album it call lets pick on the younger current artist. Yes her new tour will sell massively.she has become generic.her voice and sound is no longer appealing. She refuses to admit that she is old. They had to help her do a cartwheel and can someone tell me why a 53 year old is doing cartwheels. Grow up bitch. Gaga is also a gimmicky reductive bitch but she has a beautiful voice and will still sell out stadiums regardless

  26. mary simon says:

This is a publicity stunt to make herself look like she’s still relevant – “look at me – the biggest pop star in the world ripped off one of my songs.” I don’t think Born this Way sounds that much like Express Yourself anyway.

  27. Mourning the Death of Music says:

Dammit. I work a 12 hour shift and miss my chance to see the video, since it’s been removed. 🙁

  28. ZenB!tch says:

I didn’t like Madonna in the 80s and I don’t like her now. She was trashy then and she is pathetic now.

    Gaga is just boring.

  29. MadgeSinclair says:

… and both of these hags copied off of David Bowie and Grace Jones. So tired of recycling …

  30. Jover says:

Well spoken minty and zenbitch; has everyone forgotten laurie anderson; lady xerox is way overrated, and while the Stones may be nostalgia anyone that watched snl’s season finale, that surprisingly was overlooked, would see that Mick at 68 still has it, gaggles will be long gone before she reaches 68; I’m glad i favor music from the 60s/70s any live song from Led zeppelin try BLack DOg msg 1973 just pisses over everything on today’s charts. There are still a small number of decent bands out there, but the way most play is childish given all the electronic tricks and gimmicks that are used nowadays.

  31. Jacqueline says:

And Madonna has been copying Marlene Dietrich for more than a decade now

  32. Lisa says:

@skuddles It was at an album signing… almost three summers ago now! She called me sweetheart and I got a hug. 🙂 It was all very quick, but it was such a fun day hanging out with everyone on line to meet her.

  33. sarahtonin says:

What surprises me is that I haven’t heard a big public outcry over the name of this album: MDNA is a play on MDMA, or ecstasy. She even said at a show, “Have you seen Molly?” This is a nickname for MDMA, and is an old has-been’s transparent attempt to connect with a younger audience. Just like when your Mum used to say ‘cool’ around you. Totally tragic in itself but the real issue is it condones drug use. I know there’s been some discussion, but you’d think more people would have a problem with that.

    • CBA says:

MDMA is fun, have you even tried it? Then don’t criticize. We have more people dying from drinking then ecstasy.

Madonna’s album sucked, her voice was so computerized and high pitched. I love Ray of Light and Confessions. I don’t know why her fans especially the gay ones, automatically accept EVERYTHING she does and can’t admit when she sucks. I’m bored of the religious crap she does too. We get it, we saw it before.
