Russell Brand asked Katy Perry to remove him from her movie, she said no way

Katy Perry

Katy Perry has been in London over the past few days, and I sense that this studded, leather jacket is very important to Katy’s new purported image. As in, we’ll be seeing the jacket a lot as part of Katy’s recent effort to goth out like a slutty Morticia Addams to promote the alleged darker music that will spill forth from her next album. So Katy is still faux-gothing it up with various “serious” outfits in London while she appears “somber” by not making eye contact with the camera. Oh look who’s standing behind her in some of these photos — Robert Ackroyd of Florence + the Machine. I guess they didn’t break up after all, or maybe they just hook up when they’re in the came city. Who knows. I do like this cream-colored dress.

Meanwhile, a few stories continue to circulate in regards to Katy and her estranged husband, Russell Brand. If you compare their respective recent visits to “The Ellen Degeneres Show,” the difference in attitudes is quite apparent. Russell claimed to have only love and positivity for Katy, and she proceeded to tell Ellen that her upcoming concert movie will talk about Russell — perhaps in slightly unflattering terms. Supposedly, Russell isn’t happy about this and asked Katy to pull his footage, and she refused:

Even though Russell Brand has gone out of his way to say nice things about Katy Perry since their split, there’s buzz the Brit actor and comedian is more than a little nervous about Perry’s upcoming documentary, Part of Me.

Brand apparently asked that any footage shot while they were married be deleted, but that request was turned down. He’s supposedly worried that some of his more caustic rants may come off as making him look bad – if they indeed are used in the film.

[From Chicago Sun-Times]

So we all know that Katy’s movie will portray the demise of her marriage as sympathetic to herself. No big news there, and I doubt that any of Russell’s “caustic rants” will make it into the family-friendly flick, but I can see why he’d ask her to remove his image and likeness from the movie. And since Katy isn’t budging, I find it interesting that she’s quite irritated that Rusty dared to mention their courtship onstage at the MTV Movie Awards:

With his famously loud mouth, Russell Brand has never been known for taking the high road. But when the comedian made a clear jab at his ex-wife, Katy Perry, as he hosted the MTV Movie Awards on June 3, he seemed to hit a new low. “The last time I did an MTV awards show, I did end up marrying someone that was there,” said Russell, 37, who met Katy at the 2009 VMAs before splitting up more than two years later. “Tonight I am going to keep my eyes peelied for my next wife!”

While the thousands of audience members — not to mention the millions of TV viewers — were shocked by hs comments, none were more disgusted than Katy herself. “This made her realize just how insecure he really is,” a friend tells In Touch. “She absolutely cannot stand him!”

But Katy, 27, isn’t dwelling on her anger. “She’s so over him and ready for the next thing,” says the friend. Perhaps a man without a microphone should be first on her list!

[From In Touch, print edition, June 18, 2012]

Just to point out a trivial inaccuracy, Russell actually met Katy on the set of Get Him to the Greek. They filmed a kissing scene together, which was their first kiss as well. Okay, they rehearsed it together in private right before cameras rolled, and the way he described it in Booky Wook 2 was very sweet. Too bad things went down hill so quickly, right?

I don’t blame Russell for making a joke about looking for his “next wife” onstage at the MTV Movie Awards. Everyone was pretty much expecting him to make some sort of joke about it, and he kept it relatively tasteful. Mostly, it seemed like he was picking on himself (not her), and then he hit on Fassy. Win win.

Katy, please stop trying to make a dull and much expected break-up into a sensation.

It ain’t gonna happen. No interest there. Move the eff on.

    • CG says:

ITA. Her post-divorce PR campaign is so transparent. Seriously, she’s acting like she’s in junior high/high school with all the “I’m so over you!” stuff. I actually listen to her music at the gym, but if her next album is full of doom and gloom, I probably won’t be downloading any of those singles.

      • Jordan says:

I agree with both of you. There was nothing ‘SHOCKING!!’ about his joke at the MTV awards. He is a comedian, that’s what he does. Just like she is a singer (lol) and she put out that song that everyone thought was about him. She is immature, as evidenced by the smiley face she signed on the divorce papers. I can understand him being worried that the footage of any arguments be cut so as to make it seem like he is being irrational and making her look like the victim. Plus, it means he is going to be asked about the film for a while (or as long as her publicity machine is active) and maybe he just wants to move on.

      • Tiffany says:

” Her post-divorce PR campaign is so transparent. ”

I completely agree. She doesn’t seem to have much integrity or maturity, and not only that, she overestimates her ability to manipulate the public. Just because you are trying to be “goth” now, doesn’t mean that people will buy it. Now that Dr. Luke is on another label, she won’t be able to have him write/producer her music (he worked on vast majority of her hits).

      • MW says:

I don’t understand either. Does she think there has to be a Team Katy/Team Russell? Is she making a “movie” in an attempt to keep herself relevant? They split, he walked away without asking for a penny. He has said nothing negative about her. End of story. I guess I’m Team Russell.

    • ORLY says:

Part of Me is my favorite song! How can you not appreciate it?

  2. Sam says:

I thought that they met at the VMAs before they filmed Get Him to the Greek?

  3. Jackie says:

of course she is not going to pull the parts about him. that is one of the big draws of the movie.

her career has been mostly about marketing, anyway.

    • Veruca says:

I saw the trailer when I saw SWATH.

He’s the only draw of the movie.

    • gg says:

True – the only thing she’s really done is get married to a person of some interest. Otherwise, her life was just a bed of cupcakes.

    • Minty says:

“her career has been mostly about marketing, anyway.”

Yes. It worked for Madonna. Katy is following the same game plan. I really am tired of their cheap PR stunts, like manufacturing controversy and selling out their personal relationships. It’s the usual bag of tricks to distract from their mediocre talent.

    • Emma - the JP lover says:

Well, at least that explains why she and Rhianna are such great pals.

  4. lizzi says:

That hair color is all kinds of wrong.

  5. Jaime says:

Her boyfriend reminds me of Ryan Gosling. And, I don’t know…I can get down to a Katy Perry song when I’m in the mood. Her music isn’t as grating on my nerves as the rest of the auto-tune generation.

  6. annaloo. says:

She is such a poseur. She’s about as goth as My Little Pony.

(and YES, I am mentally back in high school, but it’s Katy Perry we’re talking about here.)

  7. Cecilia says:

How can you “She absolutely cannot stand him!” now when you loved him so much before. Doesn’t say much for HER

    • gg says:

That is exactly why she can’t stand him. You can’t hate somebody who you never cared for in the first place.

  8. Ann1 says:

I’m not surprise she will not cut his part out of the movie, he is the bigger star. Just show she hooked up with him to help her career or else she would cut his image lose and move on. Sure she will try to make him look bad. I will never bother to see it. I love Russell and I will tune into his show when it start. He is very funny.

  9. stinky says:

    that jacket is f’n CUTE!
    she, however, is nauseating.

  10. G says:

Geez, he’s been nothing but publicly kind and didn’t ask her for a thing in the divorce. You’d think she could return the favor.

Or course, she’s a million times less interesting without him.

    • Jordan says:

This is true, but she still has a film to sell so I wouldn’t put it past her to have planted this story to make it seem like something salacious about Brand is going to be in the film. That’s about the only thing that would fill the seats.

      • G says:

I can’t see the 13 year old fans of KP really getting Russell Brand anyway. But you’re right, she needs some hints of the salacious to make this interesting.

    • Tiffany says:

I agree, the contrast in how they have handled this is AMAZING. He has been kind and respectful. She disrespectfully signs divorce papers with a smiley face and tries to plant negative stories about him in tabloids.

I used to not like her because of her shrill and grating voice. Now I have a lot of other reasons.

    • Kara Ann says:

      G,

My thoughts exactly. I sometimes like Brand and sometimes don’t but I cannot find fault with the way that he has handled this divorce. He’s winning me over with this behavior and the lovely writing that he did about Winehouse. And yes, he is infinitely more interesting than she is. Hell, I even watched “her” True Hollywood Story b/c of him! Crappy person she is but great at career strategy….PR not so much!

  11. biteme says:

I love RB. that is all!

  12. Caitlinsmommy says:

He’s had nothing but nice things to say about her. Her, not so much. She is so childish. Team Russel!

  13. aud says:

if he pretended the katy stuff never happened, he would have looked dumb. Might as well joke about it to clear the air/avoid having an elephant in the room.

He’s been so nice about her, such a gentleman

    • Pamela says:

ITA. He had to say *something*. And what he said was funny and it didn’t infer anything negative about her.

He could not get up there and rag on everybody and have the nerve NOT to bring up his divorce at all. He handled it the best he could.

  14. Ainsley says:

I still can’t believe this joke of a person is releasing a movie about herself. She has to leave Brand in it because there is nothing interesting or compelling about her at all. Her attempt at changing her image into someone dark and serious is so absurd. She will never be taken seriously.

    • Kim says:

Exactly. She is only leaving him in it to create buzz about a movie i cant even believe is being made/no one cares about or will see.

    • Jen says:

Exactly! HOW in the world does she have a movie about herself coming out??

  15. Agnes says:

    wow, she’s so edgy.

    hahaha

  16. Nicole says:

I cannot stand this woman. How the hell can anyone listen to that awful voice of hers? I just don’t get it.

    • umlaut says:

I don’t get it either. She is screechy on her albums and hoarse and pitchy live. I can’t stand the ridiculous outfits, the quasi-Evangelical sex kitten act, any of it.

  17. ria says:

The only appealing thing about Katy, was Russell. Now that they are divorced she’s back to being, meh and blah. I always wondered why someone as smart as intelligent and humorous as Russell could ever find Katy appealing, with her constant need to be idolized as a uber edgy sex symbol. Beth Ditto was right to put the smack down on her. Russell was entitled to half of her earnings made during the course of their marriage, which being a true gentleman, he forfeited, only to have her sign the contract with a childish smiley face and now refuses to erase him from her movie. She is so underhanded and immature. Its the very least she could have done, being he pretty much let her have everything in the divorce. This little attention seeker is selfish to the core.

  18. Jayna says:

Katie, you’re vanilla. The edgy goth isn’t believable and trying to be interesting ala Madonna/Truth or Dare isn’t going to happen except to her tween/early teens fans.

  19. Zelda says:

Who the f*ck wants to see a Katy Perry documentary?

  20. Ginger says:

definitely a win-win! Come on Katy, he could have said worse things. Pretty tame IMO considering his reputation as a loud mouth.

  21. umlaut says:

Her makeup in that first picture…

  22. Kim says:

She is classless. Regardless of how immature he is things in a marriage, or while married, should be kept private. She is only doing this to hurt him – really mature =(

AND WHO IN THE WORLD WANTS TO SEE A MOVIE WITH HER IN IT LET ALONE ABOUT HER?? Who cares!

  23. CB says:

I agree with all of you. If she “can’t stand him” and is “so over him”, why is putting out negative things in the press about him, aiming songs at him, complaining to her friends about him, and leaving him in her stupid movie? He didn’t say anything but the truth at the MTV Movie Awards a) his marriage was short b) he met his wife at an awards show c) jokingly that he could meet his next wife that night. I’ve read several articles that he attacked her at the MTV awards…bull. He hasn’t said anything negative about her, didn’t take the money, the house or even the cat. Leave him alone Katy…you obviously didn’t want him and only used him to sell your songs…all you appear to me to be is a selfish witch. And for the love of all things will you quit having “sources” speak to the press and speak for yourself???

    • Bill says:

Totally agree that what RB said at the MTV was not insulting to KP in any way. If she really was that upset about it, she has some serious mental issues.

  24. GreenTurtle says:

Total calculated career movie. The scorned woman “you ripped out my heart” thing is a cash cow. Adele would be the most recent example. Other than that, Katy and Adele should not be mentioned in the same breathe, obviously.

  25. valleymiss says:

Katy’s a b*tch. Russell could have take half her $ that she made on tour, but he was a gentleman and didn’t. So she repays him by not cutting him out of her tour movie? B*tch.

  26. Jover says:

Agree zelda does this moron think this “documentary” will be today’s version of The song remains the same: she is no longer talentless annoying she has crossed over into offensive delusional territory.

  27. Aysha says:

She was on the Graham Norton show in the UK and she was terrible like a 16 year old high school girl…she kept butting in when other celebrities were talking. She was just very unlikeable. Cherly Cole was on the show as well..I’m not really a fan of hers…but she seemed to classy and nice compared to hyper and loud Katy Perry.

  28. Erin says:

I can’t imagine having to put a full face of makeup, including false eyelashes, on EVERY DAY before leaving the house.

  29. Paul says:

She cant sing, her “songs” are muck and in regards to her Graham Norton appearance last night, she came across as just another immature idiot celeb who doesnt have much of a clue about anything.

  30. Aubra says:

    Girl…BYE!

  31. Marie Antoinette Jr. says:

    They both suck.

  32. hmm says:

Why is COOL to be goth now?!
I was goth in the ’90s, and people would publicly harass me and call me a freak! I also got food thrown at me in the cafeteria. I hated my life!
But pop stars do it, and it’s hot and trendy.

  33. Clara says:

Katy, to quote a recently well recieved HBO show, “You look like you’re gonna go put a hex on some popular girls.”

  34. Ailine says:

There is a pattern to on this site to first lame the woman when something goes wrong in a breakup. Maybe she has her reasons and they are valid or maybe she is a brat, but she should be given a chance to defend herself before “Team ______” is shouted from the rooftops! I’m reserving judgement until more is known. Just to give the woman the benefit of the doubt.

  35. Ailine says:

  36. Niamh says:

if we’re picking teams I’m TEAM RUSSELL all the way. He’s funny and charming and talented.
    She isn’t.

  37. KatC says:

I sincerely doubt the truth of this story. Brand has NEVER shied away from having his antics publicized (Booky Wooks anyone?), and he is at least smart enough to control his behavior while in front of the cameras filming his then-wife’s documentary. On the off chance that he is worried about some of the footage, it’s existence is completely on him.

Also the wording of the supposed request; “Brand apparently asked that any footage shot while they were married be deleted, but that request was turned down” sooo… that would be the entirety of the footage shot during the year they were married AND she was touring? So the entire film then? Makes the chance that this is true even slimmer.

  38. RHONYC says:

always thought that Robert Ackroyd dude from F&TM looked hot on stage (while in motion)…had NO idea he had an ‘American Dad’ chin! egads! 🙁
