Stephen Moyer on if he’d have vamp sex with Alex Skarsgard “we’d totally embrace that”

True Blood’s Stephen Moyer has a new interview in The Advocate that I enjoyed the hell out of. I have to say that I haven’t always had the highest opinion of Stephen. He seems a little prima donna-ish to me – I think it’s how he makes that sexy face on the red carpet – but I do appreciate how tight he is with his co-star, Alex Skarsgard. In this interview he seems humorous and cool. I especially like how chill he is with his gay fans, and how open he is to doing same-sex love scenes. I’m seriously fantasizing after reading this. Anyway Stephen says that he’s talked to Alex about having a hot sex scene for his character Bill, and Alex’s character, Eric, and that the dream sequence with Sookie having a threesome with them (that video is below!) was their idea! Yes. Here’s more:

The Advocate: The LGBT community has embraced True Blood from the start. Are you conscious of your own gay fans?
Stephen Moyer: I feel very at home in that world, so I’m very pleased about it, but I may come in fourth behind Joe Manganiello, Alex Skarsgård, and Ryan Kwanten, if I’m really honest. I’m a little upset. Once upon a time I was doing very well in that area, but after Alex and Joe joined the show, I naturally went down in the pecking order.

There has been criticism that True Blood has alienated some viewers because it’s become “too gay.” What’s your response?
Is there such a thing as too gay? We live in a very different world than we grew up in, so if people can’t embrace that aspect of our show, then that’s a shame. I certainly don’t think it’s specifically gay, but our show ticks a lot of boxes for a lot of people. We have an incredibly broad audience, one of the widest demographics in terms of sexuality and age groups, so obviously we’re doing something right.

You’ve gotten in on the action with a fantasy sequence involving you and Sam Trammell. Was that a challenging scene?
Not at all. We had an awful lot of fun that day, and I happen to think Sam’s a very good-looking man. We also had a lot of fun lighting the scene with our shirtless stand-ins, Nate and Lenny. [Laughs] Not that that particular scene was a challenge, but anything that seems like it could be a challenge in the script is just meat for an actor. So I looked at that scene like, Oh, my God, that’s fantastic. I can’t wait to do that!

Speaking of sexual tension, when will Bill and his adversary Eric just get it over with already and have angry vampire sex?
I’ve been asking myself that question for a long time. Alex and I would absolutely embrace that. Last year, when Sookie had her fantasy about the two of them with her, we even suggested it. Of course, Bill and Eric together isn’t necessarily Sookie’s fantasy.

Has Anna inspired you to get more involved in politics and philanthropy?
I’ve always been a flag-waving, bleeding-heart liberal. Anna and I have very similar feelings about a lot of that stuff, including LGBT causes, so we support each other in it. Being in the public eye has its benefits when you can be the face of something important and raise money for a charity that wouldn’t otherwise have had that profile.

Are you excited to see your costar Joe Manganiello in Magic Mike?
We’ve been privy to most of Joe’s performance in Magic Mike just from being on set with him. Joe is not somebody who’s afraid to take his top off or hump desks. If you went up to Joe and said, “I hear you’re playing a stripper,” he would do the dance for you then and there. He would probably do it for my dog Banjo. He has no shame.

Would you ever play a stripper?
I’m open to all offers.

Do you have a celebrity man-crush?
Yeah, but mine is totally talent-based: Philip Seymour Hoffman. With any kind of attraction for me, it ultimately comes down to what’s underneath the surface.

In the upcoming movie The Barrens, you play a man terrorized by a legendary monster called the Jersey Devil. Are you trading Sookie for Snooki?
It does sound like it could be. No, I’d be truly horrified if that came towards me.

[From The Advocate]

I guess I’m warming to Moyer. He’s very droll and funny. I’ve seen interviews with him and didn’t get his appeal, but maybe I just didn’t give him enough of a chance. Also, it really sounds like he’s dissing Joe Manganiello, doesn’t it? That guy is such a tool, I’m not surprised his coworkers don’t think much of him.

Here’s the sexy shower scene with Sam and Bill. It was a dream of Sam’s after drinking Bill’s blood.

Here’s the segment Moyer mentioned where Sookie, Bill and Eric almost have a threesome in Sooki’s dream. Sexy times FINALLY start at about 4:00. It needs less/no Sookie and more Bill and Eric making out.

OK, I need to say something really weird here, but I was just listening to “Relax” by Frankie Goes to Hollywood and thinking, ‘I can just picture ASkars and Moyer getting freaky to this on True Blood’…then I came to Celebitchy and saw THIS. Hmmm, the Universe works in mysterious ways; now if only the lotto was this reliable.

    • marie says:

ha, if only. I’ve always like Moyer, never got his attraction on the show but in interviews he seems like a cool guy..

I don’t think he’s dissing ManJello, he’s just poking fun.

      • CC says:

His fans made me dislike Moyer, when I’m out of their “circle”, he seems ok, but …yea until I can remove the bad taste from my mouth, courtesy of his fans…. Kind of ironic, if you think about it.

Saying in a detached-ish way, since True Blood is something I no longer watch. Well, not really, I still detest what they did to the show, what could have been and never was. But I like other shows now, even if I lurk from time to time.

  2. chromehearts says:

Hot! Makes me want to have a threesome now. . .

    • beyonce's bump says:

haha yaaaaaasss!!!! except I will replace Bill Compton (Moyer) with big hunkay Alcide (magnello or whatevs)

      *fans self*

  3. Lizzie K says:

Great interview! Loved the comment about Snooki, totally agree about Phillip Seymour Hoffman, and going to take a cold shower after ASkars. Phew!

  4. Kaboom says:

As usual, reading interviews with a British actor requires a different humor filter.

    • cr says:

I love his sense of humor.

    • rundee says:

How so? What do you mean by different humour filter? Just curious, ´cause I´m European.

      • CC says:

Less filtered than what you’d get from an American. It’s like an art form, dropping the Pc to be funny and saying things your brain to mouth filter would eliminate. You see American comedians doing that, but the rule is American celebs are usually very serious in what they say, unless they’re comedians.

        Hard to explain.

A lot of people have it but in the US I guess…celebs second-guess themselves (“shoould I say it? will it sound/weird/creepy/whatever?”) and hold their tongues a lot more.

      • cr says:

More snarky, sarcastic, and more than willing to take the piss out of someone, especially themselves.

  5. MorticiansDoItDeader says:

    They have shirtless stand ins?

    • cr says:

I’m going to say it’s for lighting and stuff like that where they don’t need the actual actor, since they’re not doing any lines.
But, how does one get a job as a shirtless stand-in?

      • MorticiansDoItDeader says:

I wonder I’d Anna has a body double for her scenes? And if she doesn’t, perhaps they should consider using one for a while after the birth of the twins (so she isn’t faced with pressure to drop the baby weight in an unhealthy fashion).

      • cr says:

I’m presuming they’ve have one, and would have had one for a few months now, she’s been obviously showing for awhile.

There was an interesting casting call about a month ago:

[SOOKIE STACKHOUSE DOPPELGANGER] Female, Caucasian, Long Blonde Hair, 5’5″, 115 lbs. size 4, 34 B. Waist – 25-26″ Hip – 34-35″. No Lines.

        http://www.stephen-moyer.net/news/casting-call-for-sookie-doppelganger

But I don’t think it’s a body double, I think they’re going somewhere else with it.

      • GrandPoobah says:

Hahaha, yes there are stand ins for everything and yes, they are used for lighting.

Lighting and setting up any given shot take AGES-that’s why shooting takes forever. If you aren’t grip or electric or art, chances are most of your day on a set will be spent waiting around for them to set up the lighting/gags/props/whatever else for the next shot.

They don’t like using the principal actors (first team) for lighting because believe it or not, it takes a lot out of you standing stock still or close to it for anywhere from 10 minutes to an hour. I’ve stood in for folks on commercials when they couldn’t afford to hire stand ins and OMG it is boring, hot (because they are also testing just how hot and bright they can get the lights before they roast you alive or blind you) and exhausting.

Plus they are typically given the final pages the day they are going to shoot so they are spending that time memorizing their lines and preparing themselves for the scene.

  6. Jen34 says:

I have never gotten a diva vibe from Stephen. He has always seemed open-minded and reasonable. I don’t understand the Bill hate.

I also have to stick up for Joe. He is an actor and could do a strip tease for me anytime.

    • hairball says:

      Agree!

    • CC says:

Bill hate and Moyer hate are mutually exclusive, or can be. I don’t hate Moyer, but still hate Bill. If it makes any sense.

Hate the character, not the man. Same with Tara, actually.

Even if I’m not a fan of either actor due to their characters, I hate the characters, not the actors. The actors just irritate me.

      • Chordy says:

I 100% cosign everything you just said. I think Stephen Moyer is GREAT. I love him, and if anyone but him was playing Bill I don’t know if I could stand him. I only like Bill when he’s being nice to Jessica or making out with Sam. I also HATE Tara, but I LOVE Rutina Wesley. I hope that she gets to be awesome this season, and it looks hopeful. She almost smiled once and she looks freaking hot in Pam’s clothes.

ETA: I would add Sookie/Anna Paquin to this list. I really really really really really love Anna Paquin. I really really really really really really really hate Sookie. So much. Anna Paquin is a badass (she’s Rogue for frack sake), and they’re missing out by making Sookie such a noncharacter.

  7. hairball says:

I don’t think he was dissing Joe M., read another interview with Anna and she mentioned him doing that too with his stripper moves to the cast of TB and it seemed the crew was laughing.about it.

I guess this ship has sailed sadly and will never see again but Eric having sex with Sookie as himself not as the vomit inducing fake sex scenes from when had no memory. Sad. 🙁 Wish they had Sookie & Eric together as himself. They totally effed that up.

But yes would love a Bill Eric sex scene as well!

  8. Ashling says:

I have absolutely no desire to see Eric and Bill together. However, I would be interested in seeing Eric and Godric do the deed.

  9. Jenna says:

Eww; no thanks. I dislike TB Bill so much. And I hated that dream of Sookie’s. So ridiculous.

    • rufustfirefly says:

+2 I hated that scene too. Except for the first few seconds when Alex walks his ridiculously long legs through the front door to grab Sookie and kiss her lips off. Seriously UNF!!!

  10. serena says:

That was so hot! I wouln’t mind both of them now, LOL. Obliviously Sookie/Anna needs to gtfo.

  11. Jordan says:

I like Stephen and Alex’s bro love. And I don’t think he was dissing Joe, the comments were in line with his other sarcastic and humorous comments.

  12. mia girl says:

Beeeyell. (my phonetic attempt at Sookie’s speech). Ha!

I don’t get the Bill hate. I like the character (and how Moyer plays it) because, still, to this day, you are not sure what his real motives are when it comes to Sookie. I guess I’m one of the few who really likes Bill.

And I really have been enjoying the Bill/Eric dynamic this season. Thank god the real Eric is back, bc I hated that puppy love struck Eric last season.

  13. Jennifer says:

Love, love, LOVE the idea of the two of them together! It’s hot as hell that they’re both so comfortable with it, too. If I still smoked I would totally be lighting a cig right now. I might anyway.

However, I will never understand the attraction to Anna. That chick is just fugly. I can’t be the only one.

    • Minty says:

You’re not. In the books, Sookie is described as pretty. When they cast Anna, I thought, WTF? Anna is interesting-looking, but not someone you’d call a head turner. She has hard features.

    • melior says:

Actually I totally see why they cast her. But that’s because I’m familiar with her career and the ‘quirkiness’ she brings to her characters. She’s compelling to watch. As to purely physical aspects, I think she goes from pretty to artistically beautiful when she does photo shoots or on the red carpet. But I think most of her fans don’t dissociate her looks from her personality because that’s what makes her a pretty unique presence in HW. As, for Sookie, you said it yourself in the books she was described as pretty not a head turner so I think that gave the casting director a lot of room as to what the character’s prettiness should be incarnated.

  14. RHONYC says:

a movie about the ‘Jersey Devil’…awesome!

all the ‘Weird N.J.’ geeks are gonna love this (me included, lol). 😉

  15. Bored suburbanhousewife says:

I loved Sookie & Bill together in the first season. Their real life chemistry really popped on screen.

But does anyone notice how much better Moyers looked, esp his hair & skin, in season 1 v now? Is it aging? Also bad hairstyle.

  16. Jennifer12 says:

I love how cool and brave these actors are- it’s called acting for a reason. I just don’t like when they start throwing in any scene possible just to up the ante.

  17. Zvonk says:

True blood has really been skimping on the sex scenes lately. To make up for it, I think they should have a gay orgy with Bill, Eric, Jason, Alcide, Sam and Roman. And to top it off, they could have Pam come in at the end and be utterly sarcastic and bitchy.

    • Chatcat says:

Zvonk…that is brilliant! And when they are all finished Pam turns to Sookie and says “see bitch, I told ya you weren’t getting Eric”

  18. Izzy says:

I think he comes across as having a very British sense of humor. The Brits do have a different kind of funny bone. Has anyone ever watched the BAFTA awards? I caught the BBCA broadcast of the last one, and it was exactly the opposite of the Oscars. The BAFTAs ran at a quick pace, and NO ONE in that room took him- or herself too seriously. AMPAS members could take a lesson or two from it.

  19. Rachel() says:

Stephen Moyer is ALWAYs cool and funny in interviews. I don’t get the “prima donna” thing at all. I hate Bill, a lot, but I love Stephen! He has the most personality of any of the cast.

  20. Lizzy says:

No, he’s not dissing Joe. He’s making friendly fun of a dude co-worker who, if asked “Are you playing a stripper?” says “HELL YEAH, WANNA SEE MY MOVES???”. It’s such a guy thing to do, and the other men on the set have a responsibility to mock him for it. Do you not have any experience with man-on-man social interaction?

I like Moyer a lot better in real life than I do on the show.

  21. Izzy says:

I hereby volunteer MYSELF to have sex with either of them. Or both.

  22. Autumnleaves says:

    Again, yuck. Gross.

  23. Vivienne says:

If they keep it in a dream sequence, okay because that means the deed is actually not DONE and it’s really out of their control. lol

But if these guys are supposed to be straight vampires, and supposed to appeal to “straight” female fans, I don’t think I’d want them to cross the line and have sex with each other. Sorry, not to hurt anyone, but I’m just saying it would take away any heterosexual appeal…..
Anyone else that’s a straight woman feel this way?

    • Lisa says:

Not at all. I’m 100% heterosexual and female and I think two beautiful men together would be hot. Whether Stephen Moyer is a beautiful man is debatable for me, though.

As to Eric being heterosexual I don’t think anyone can say that for sure. He’s been around for a 1000 years. I’m sure in that time he’s done everything, including other men.
