Christian Bale flew to Colorado to spend time with the mass-shooting victims

After Warner Bros. canceled the European promotion for The Dark Knight Rises, it seems like Christian Bale, Joseph Gordon Levitt and Anne Hathaway were brought back to LA via Warner’s private jet. All three of those actors issued personal statements of condolence to the victims of the Colorado mass-shooting, and everyone involved with the film seems genuinely devastated by what happened. Batman himself, Christian Bale, even decided to make a personal, non-studio-endorsed trip to Colorado to meet with some of the survivors of the massacre:

Christian Bale is making a quiet trip to Aurora, Colorado to visit with the victims of last week’s movie theater massacre.

With free time thanks to the cancellations of premieres and press appearances for The Dark Knight Rises in Mexico and Japan, Bale took it upon himself to visit, a rep for Warner Bros. told The Denver Post.

On Friday, the Oscar-winner issued a brief statement expressing his sympathies to those impacted by the mass shooting, allegedly carried out by James Holmes, at the midnight screening of Bale’s final Batman film.

“Words cannot express the horror that I feel,” he said at the time. “I cannot begin to truly understand the pain and grief of the victims and their loved ones, but my heart goes out to them.”

Last week, a petition urging Bale to visit the victims in Colorado emerged online.

[From THR]

I was fine until I read the part about the petition. Really? That makes me feel queasy – while I think it’s a really nice thing that Bale would take it upon himself to fly to Colorado and meet with these people, I hate the idea that some people were like, “Yeah, he SHOULD do that. Start a petition.” It negates Bale’s good intentions and makes it seem like he was giving into external pressure, or that it’s a PR move – which I doubt it was, honestly. Mostly I don’t think it’s a PR move because Bale doesn’t seem to give a sh-t about good PR. He probably just wanted to spend time with the injured kids, and I bet most of those kids just wanted to shake his hand and have their photos taken with Batman. Maybe we should start a petition to have Christian Bale scream at and berate the POS shooter for the next 40 years too. That should be a petition.

Speaking of good PR moves mixed with good intentions, Warner Bros. has also made some large donations to the charities working with the victims of the Colorado shooting. Considering TDKR made $160 million-plus in its opening weekend, and it’s in line to make a billion (or more), Warner can definitely afford it. Still, they don’t NEED to do it – it’s just a really nice gesture:

The studio behind ‘The Dark Knight Rises’ has been in contact with the state governor’s office and will make a lump sum contribution. Warner Bros., the studio behind The Dark Knight Rises, is making a donation to charities supporting victims of the Aurora, Colo., shooting rampage.

Sources tell The Hollywood Reporter that the studio has been in contact with Colorado governor John Hickenlooper’s office and will contribute to a fund identified by the governor on the website givingfirst.org, which is a program of Colorado’s Community First Foundation. The fund distributes monies across several charities that will support victims of the July 20 killing spree that left at least 12 dead and dozens injured.

The studio will not release publically the amount of the lump sum donation but sources say it is “substantial.”

Warner Bros. CEO Barry Meyer also is set to send a companywide email on Monday evening advising employees of the donation and explaining how they can donate personally to the victims.

Warner Bros. has reacted swiftly in the wake of the July 20 killing spree at a midnight screening of the latest Batman movie. The studio quickly released a statement saying that Warners “and the filmmakers are deeply saddened to learn about this shocking incident. We extend our sincere sympathies to the families and loved ones of the victims at this tragic time.”

The studio then canceled a planned Paris premiere and other press events and declined to release box office figures for Dark Knight Rises over the weekend out of respect for the families of the victims. The Christopher Nolan-directed film grossed a robust $160.9 million in three days, the best opening ever for a 2D film.

Warners is the first of the Hollywood organizations to make a charitable gift. Cinemark, which owns the Century Aurora 16 theater where the shooting took place, has yet to announce any donation, nor has the MPAA or the National Association of Theatre Owners.

[From THR]

I have to say, I think Warner Bros. hasn’t made a false step thus far. It was very smart for them to go through the governor’s office and existing charities instead of trying to reinvent the wheel and create their own, separate victims’ foundation or something. They’ve treated the victims of the tragedy with respect, they avoided being drawn into the debates about violence and guns, and what could have been a huge PR disaster for Warner ended up becoming an example of a Hollywood studio managing a crisis with timely, respectful efficiency. Someone at Warner Bros, knows what the hell they’re doing, you know?

PS… If you want to have a good cry, you should read this story about how three of the young men died protecting their girlfriends.

    he’s hot

    • K says:

I agree! Never had any interest in him whatsover before wathching the first 2 Batman in preparation for TDKR. Now I’m in love. He is hot!

      • ZenB!tch says:

We’re all in love now. Even those of us who had him high on the douche list. Well the talented douche list. He was never on the boycott list.

    • NYC_girl says:

Yes, he is very hot. Esp in the pic with the hospital staff. I’d like to nibble on his shoulder. That 3-piece suit he’s wearing is hot too.

    • GoodCapon says:

He IS hot. Shame about his attitude… although I’ll give him a pass because of this. This was really a classy thing to do.

    • Chris says:

Ah yes once again my long standing support of Christian Bale has been justified. What a great guy. 😉

    • hoya_chick says:

I’m thinking the same exact thing. He is so freaking hot! And he is a great actor. He takes his work seriously and I can see why people think he is douchey and full of himself but I think acts like these and the fact that he is oh sooooo talented supercedes that. I’ve been a long time fan. Good for the studio for donating money. I want to cry just thinking about the horror those people must have faced in that theater. We need to do better, be better as people. As a race. As a community. Makes me sad for humanity that senseless violence like this happens. Hopefully Christian’s visit was a bright spot in this terrible ordeal for the victims.

    • darkladi says:

      He is sooo delicious!

  2. Sharon says:

Sorry to be a cliche, but I really don’t care what anyone says about Christian Bale and his on-set tantrums… I’ve been obsessed with him since American Psycho.

    • Memory30 says:

      +1 and he’s awesomely hot 😉

    • Mia 4S says:

Why do people always mention tantrumS? We have evidence of one, four years ago. People are far too cynical. Sometimes a troubled guy can find peace and move forward. We believe RDJ has done it, why not Bale?

      • KAI says:

I agree. He apologized and took full responsibility for his behaviour. He seems like a good man who made a mistake. Who hasn’t?

“The thing that I really want to stress is I have no confusion whatsoever. I was out of order beyond belief. I was way out of order. I acted like a punk. I regret that.

“There is nobody that has heard that tape that is hit harder by it than me. I make no excuses for it. It is inexcusable. I hope that that is absolutely clear.”

      • Jilli says:

Mia, you are so right! People remember one thing and label a person. Too bad. He is a fine actor and did a really decent thing.

      • ZenB!tch says:

        Because he’s not troubled enough?

I was mad at him about the incident with his mother which I’ve since found out was exaggerated.

I was never angry or judgmental with him over the crewman thing. We all work with assholes and idiots. It was an incident between 2 grown men. He apologized and the movie was finished.

He’s just lucky he didn’t work for the place I used to work for or else they would have called in HR… I’m serious. Everything was an HR incident at that place and they had set HR too.

      • Otterette says:

After hearing the details and and actually listening to said “tantrum,” I think he was totally justified. How many times have you had that one co-worker who just dicks around all day, getting in your way, and ends up really costing you some focus/work? He takes his work seriously, as he should, and there is just no excuse for unprofessionalism/dicking around on set. I would’ve reacted the exact same way. Sans apology.

    • Bodhi says:

Hell, I’ve been obsessed with him since Little Women

    • LucyOriginal says:

Sharon, I can’t blame you! I like Bale since he played the kid in Empire of the Sun, so cute!

  3. Kate says:

That petition was ridiculous. I think the person who made it had good intentions, but it was so stupid. https://www.facebook.com/BaleOutAurora

I like that he went, but I completely think he didn’t have to.

    • ZenB!tch says:

I saw the photo of the status but I never saw the status. Ironically, the one I saw was not from Emily Sanchez but from a guy named Jared.

I hope they aren’t going to take credit for it.

    • Latoya says:

+1 agreed, didn’t like the petition either, what Kaiser said was exactly what I thought. CB had nothing to do with the shooter, so he had no responsibility to go. It was just really sweet that he did.

Think both the tantrum and the think with his family was blown out of proportion. If you read into it his family upbringing was difficult, and I think his mother and sister were insulting his wife, and as far as I’m aware he yelled at them, and they called the police. I’ve done much worse in a family argument (not beating ppl up…cept when we were little and siblings… 🙂 ) . And agreed with above posters he apologised for the tantrum, and his apology was really good. The cinematographer wasn’t too bothered, and actually things get heated on set, small things become a big deal because you’re working long hours, difficult conditions in tight confines with ppl you’re not necessairly going to get one with.

      Anyone – Team Bale.

  4. Indira says:

“It’s not who I am underneath but what I do that defines me.”

  5. brin says:

He did a good thing and so did Warner Brothers, no need for a reason why.

  6. Marianne says:

Maybe we should start a petition to have Christian Bale scream at and berate the POS shooter for the next 40 years too. That should be a petition.

Ha ha Ha ha! Great one.

    • ahoyhoy says:

I know! I just totally squirted coffee on that one!

I think Bale is a sweet, sensitive man underneath, but NOBODY can yell like he does.
I’d love to see that little sh!t Holmes stuck in a well, like the one in Batman, and have Bale up top, screaming obscenities at him for the rest of his miserable life!

      • ZenB!tch says:

Really? Have you heard Mel Gibson? I admit I have never heard the entire CB/crewman tape because it was such a non-incident to me.

I still think the idea is hilarious.

    • Eve says:

LOL! Even though I didn’t want to laugh at anything related to this tragedy, that’s a hilarious thought.

By the way, I’m among those who were pissed off at him for that rant (come on, at one point he asks the man to be fired — “I won’t walk on set if this prick is still hired!!!”) but I’ve been trying to distance myself from that feeling.

Also, every time I listen to that remix (the “Bale Out” by RevoLucian) I laugh at the episode. I shouldn’t, but I do.

P.S.: Would it be inappropriate to post the link to it (the remix, not the actual rant) here? I know it’s old, but it never gets old.

      • the original bellaluna says:

Eve – He kicked my assholedar into high green! (That’s a GOOD thing.) 😀 AND he made me cry. But I love that he did. What a sweet thing to do, and he really didn’t have to. (And he rode to the hospital in an ambulance to avoid the media!)

And Warner Brothers…CLASSY. Very nicely handled, without being showy.

What a great way to start a hump-day!

      • Eve says:

Actually, I have been trying to distance myself from what I felt about that rant not because of this visit — honestly, he didn’t have to but that’s the least he could do.

The reason I’ve been trying to cut him some slack is that I remembered I wasn’t perfect myself. And I’ve had my share of ridiculous, over-the-top tantrums.

As I said, I still hate that he lost it over a little thing, and demanded the man to be fired, but it’s been four years and I haven’t read anything about him like that again — so maybe he’s learned a lesson.

      • ZenB!tch says:

@Eve, I totally ignored that rant because it’s one of my flaws. We all have them. I could have stood toe to toe and replied back point by point and probably louder were he to do that to me.

Had the media not exaggerated the incident with his mother and sister. I would never have had any issues with him. I seriously thought things were thrown including punches. I’d never really cared enough about him to keep track of the story.

Prior to Batman Begins I thought he was cute but odd. Kind of like Keanu with brainwaves.

    • Reece says:

“Maybe we should start a petition to have Christian Bale scream at and berate the POS shooter for the next 40 years too. That should be a petition.”
lol While I love the idea I wouldn’t make CB do that. They can record it put on loop in his cell.

  7. X says:

I am with most people who labeled him a douche and a great actor after his profanity filled tantrum. However, this was a really stand-up thing to do. I’m taking him off my douche list for now. God knows he’s been on there long enough.

    • Rumorhasit says:

Seconded…this was a very classy thing to do, and appreciated even more as he appeared to do it of his own volition. Very proud of this man for using his fame, and that of the character he portrayed in this way. Not many actors would do this. It couldn’t have been very easy for him, what would you say to someone in those victims positions? But there he is, all the same. A hero in his own right. Well done CB.

    • Chicagogurl17 says:

      Ditto!

    • ZenB!tch says:

I apologized to him yesterday on the Natalie thread, after I heard about this. I called him a misogynist (hanging head in shame).

I also googled him thoroughly and found that some of the things I thought I knew about him were not exactly true. They were the really, really, exaggerated versions.

I may try to sit through the Fighter again.

      • Mauibound says:

He was actually very good in the fighter, he’s a fantastic actor with douchey moments but there’s no denying the talent

  8. Brittany says:

Good for him. I’m sure he brought some smiles to some of the victims faces during this horrible time.

And I can see that the petition had the right intentions but it is a bit sickening.

  9. Eleonor says:

It was a very nice gesture of him.

  10. kityafey says:

“Maybe we should start a petition to have Christian Bale scream at and berate the POS shooter for the next 40 years too. That should be a petition. ”

I will sign it. I believe Christian did this out of the goodness of his heart. He probably had no clue about petitions.

I read the stories of the boyfriends saving their girlfriends. I sobbed like crazy.

  11. alonsyalonso1 says:

I think he did a great thing. He’s done some great things on screen but him just showing up is something greater. He’s a good human being.

  12. lucy2 says:

I think that was a lovely thing for him to do, and I would imagine he’s not aware of any online petition, just did it because he wanted to.

  13. Ainsley says:

I agree that no one involved in the movie owes anyone anything because they’re not responsible, but I think it was really classy of Christian and his wife to go. If it cheered up the patients, it was worth it. He handled it in a quiet, polite way and he deserves credit for that. I’ve decided to forgive him for his diva tantrums now.

    • ahoyhoy says:

ITA. And I love how low-key, regular guy he seems. No star attitude, no entourage, just a concerned guy trying to help in the only way he really can.

And Doesn’t he look HOT in his lil T-shirt and scruffy beard too? I would forcibly feel him up until he smacked me off him!

In my experience, it’s always the guys who seem like the biggest jerks, who are actually the softest, squishiest, most emotional guys IRL. The bluster is often JUST bluster.

  14. Mia 4S says:

This really made me smile, particularly the fact that he asked the hospital not to inform the media. No hyperbola, this was thoroughly decent and good hearted of him.

  15. Kristin says:

Christian Bale gets a pass on any future @ssh0lery behavior from me. That was a beyond decent thing to do.

  16. Maya says:

My crush on him just increased…by a lot. What a kind, thoughtful gesture.

  17. Agnes says:

Good for him, to do it privately and low-key. (Many others would have milked it for PR purposes.)

  18. MK yarwood says:

The petition was for him to show up in costume, as Batman. People, it seems, are either terminally stupid or totally beyond help when it comes to sensationalist crap. Anyway, he rode in an ambulance and didn’t attract any attention until after the fact.

  19. TXCinderella says:

I went to the midnight showing of The Dark Knight Rises, but did not hear about the shootings until three hours after the movie ended. I think Christian Bale is a terrific actor and I have more respect for him now that he took it upon himself to visit the people affected by this tragedy. Good going Christian!

  20. TheOriginalKitten says:

I just saw TDKR last night. Loved it. And man, I would do naughty, naughty things to Bale.

Anyway, this was a really classy and genuine thing for him to do.

    • ahoyhoy says:

      Loved TDKR!

The performances, and the ENDING—just perfect. I seriously hope that no one forgoes this great, fun movie because of that jerk terrorist.

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

ITA ahoyhoy. It was a masterfully crafted film with great performaces.

That being said, I couldn’t help but think of the Colorado tragedy during the first portion of the film. The movie had been running for 20 minutes when the shooting started. Knowing how intense the opening scene was, it was hard to imagine the terror, fear, and confusion that the victims must have been feeling. It must have been so surreal for them…smh…

      • ahoyhoy says:

Me too, TOK, I was uncomfortable in the beginning, but thankfully the film swept me up and outta the funk for the remainder.

I think EVERY main actor in TDKR has an Oscar, or has been nominated….the performances were truly GREAT all-around.

LOVED how JGL’s story ended…but I won’t spoil it here, lol!

      • TheOriginalKitten says:

Completely agree. My only real complaint was Bane’s voice. I understand that it’s probably’s Nolan’s directorial OCDness that wanted to make Bane’s voice sound as authentic as possible but honestly, there were times where I really felt like I needed subtitles! Also, I sort of felt like Tom Hardy was a bit wasted in that role. He’s so frickin talented but didn’t have much of a chance to flex his chops here.

BTW, I thought Anne Hathaway was AWESOME as Cat Woman 🙂

      • LucyOriginal says:

@TheOriginalKitten: I thought I was the only one who could not understand Bane well at times. Phew! What a relief! 🙂

  21. Anna says:

I like him even more now.

  22. clumsyme says:

What a decent thing to do from a man that many consider a douche. Best part is he did of his own free will. I bet he made the day of many ppl.

  23. megs283 says:

omg. That story about the three boyfriends…

    • Elizabeth says:

The stories of the boyfriends made me cry too. Thanks for reminding me that I’m not too old or too cynical for that kind of thing.

  24. chloe says:

Good for him, I pray for all of the victims and their families. In a world where there is constant fear of attacks on our country, economy and job situation we go to movies to escape from life for just a little bit, it’s a shame one wacko has to ruin it for everyone.

  25. birdy says:

Who on earth thinks it is appropriate in the aftermath of that type of event to set up a online petition to get the lead actor of the film to come to the town?? Exploitive much? Probably the same people who are announcing from their hospital beds who they are going to sue over the incident. Sad.

That said, good on him for turning up and not making it a media circus about him. He has done it off his own back and done it in a low key decent manner whilst respecting the actual victims of the tradegy.

What I find odd was the studio comment that he was there on his own and not representing the company/franchise. Is that to avoid lawsuits so those who do sue can’t say the studio company showed up immediately after the event so they must have felt responsible therefore pay up??

    • Migdalia says:

No I think it was so people would know this was of his own free will and not forced by the studio. The lawsuit being drawn up against the studio is stupid. I understand the victims are angry but the movie nor the studio is responsible and they are doing more than they even have to.

    • Jo 'Mama' Besser says:

A lawsuit? Oh… The impulse to scapegoat is a natural one but this is entirely inappropriate, it’s impotent rage directed at the innocent. For whatever reason, it reminds me of when Amy Yasbeck sued the hospital for not being able to save John Ritter’s life when that congenital heart defect felled him too quickly for anything to have been done by anyone. His aorta ripped, that’s not their fault. The killer is to blame, not people who surely already feel bad enough.

  26. Samigirl says:

Good on him. I had so many people post that petition thing on my fb, wanting batman to show up. I think that would have been highly traumatic. I like the way Bale went about it. I’ve loved this man for years, and it warms my heart hearing about bum doing good things. He will always be Lauri to me 🙂

  27. Vee says:

    Classy move Christian.

  28. Cathy says:

I’m glad he went, especially without all the fanfare and such. I hope he was able to bring a smile to those poor peoples hearts.

  29. Dee says:

I saw a post on Tumblr that had thousands upon thousands of reblogs wanting him to show up in costume as Batman so the children involved could meet their superhero or something to that effect…

Thank goodness he had the tact not to go along with that!

I’m sincerely glad he went about it in a quiet, respectful, honourable way. Makes me like the guy a lot more.

    • ahoyhoy says:

Right? I thought it was a terrible idea that he should come ‘in costume’. I think the LAST thing those people need right now is to see a guy in black Kevlar IRL again. Talk about PTSD!
THAT’S the part I could not understand about the petition. Thank goodness CB understood that his concern & presence were enough.

    • GoodCapon says:

Tumblr is nice when you just want to look at the pictures, but the ugly side of it is is that it’s a haven for sheep mentality. Ugh.

      • Dee says:

Yeah, that’s definitely true, unfortunately! I like using the site but I have to shake my head at some of the stuff that I come across on there.

    • Issa says:

I think if I saw that in my hospital room, I would be in the perfect place to have a panic attack. Some people are dense aren’t they? Not truly empathy but letting the fanboy over-rule their brain. Thinking of what they would want from Bale, not what would be best for the victims.

  30. jc126 says:

Very classy thing to do. I just love Christian Bale, and this only deepens my crush on him. I also think his acting skills are second to none.
I particularly like that CB wasn’t the one who publicized this; if the one victim he’s pictured with and other people hadn’t put out photos, we wouldn’t have known he did this.

  31. Autumnleaves says:

Excellent move by Bale. A tremendous gesture on his part and glad his visit wasn’t turned into a spectacle by the media. Glad the victims were uplifted by his visit.

My prayers and thoughts go out to the victims and their loved ones. may they all find peace, healing, and comfort soon.

  32. Dusty says:

Bad timing. More like a “look at me” moment for Bale. Does he not realize several of the victims lives are still hanging by threads and the burials of the deceased have yet to take place. No wonder the studio said he went of his own accord – they would want to distance themselves from anything that looks like promotion at this sad time. Stupid Bale.

    • whatthehell456 says:

I think if he wanted a “look at me” moment, someone would have tipped off the media in the area. He attempted to do this off the radar on his own time. I think this was very classy of him.

    • Mia 4S says:

Does the sun ever come out where you live Dusty? It must suck to live in negativity. At the end of the day by all reports that survivor in the photo and the others had a moment of happy distraction as did the medical staff. They enjoyed it. Their opinion and feelings are the only thing that matters; not my opinion and not yours.

    • marigold says:

I thought it was really sweet to read all the comments that were in agreement that this was a genuinely kind act on his part. And then I got to yours.

    • ZenB!tch says:

So he should have waited until they croaked? Yeah I said it because that is the kind of reply your post deserves – blunt and awful.

I think he visited those victims whose lives are hanging by a thread and it disturbed him. He was holding his wife’s hand very tightly at the memorial. Something clearly affected him very much.

  33. Sonia says:

I like him. Now. I never paid any attention to him before. 🙂

  34. Feebee says:

I’m not going with the misunderstood label but I think Bale’s always been this type of guy and the on-set berating was just so epic it’s stuck, partially because of his work personality it was easy too.

He was probably not even aware of that dumb petition.

The emotional lift he would have given survivors will be untold.

  35. elay says:

Loved TDKR … it is only me or Bale looked really attractive? Cool, hot very sexy Bruce Wayne.

  36. Eve says:

I was fine until I read the part about the petition. Really? That makes me feel queasy – while I think it’s a really nice thing that Bale would take it upon himself to fly to Colorado and meet with these people, I hate the idea that some people were like, “Yeah, he SHOULD do that. Start a petition.” It negates Bale’s good intentions and makes it seem like he was giving into external pressure, or that it’s a PR move

    Agreed.

    • Esmom says:

I know, a petition, WTF? Pretty soon any petition will be meaningless if people create them for everything.

  37. Tif says:

Saw TDKR on Monday, and he was incredibly hot, sexy, gorgeous, etc. I don’t know why I hadn’t noticed before, but…wow.

Anyways, this is a truly awesome thing to do, and now I love him even more.

  38. GrnMtGirl says:

While I’ve never felt one way or another about Christian Bale before this, he definitely has moved up on my Hottie list. It was a very Cool thing to do and I Love that he tried to keep it low key.

Ever since I heard and read about the Men who sacrificed themselves for their Women I have been in Awe of their behavior. It pulls at my Heart and continues to bring tears to my eyes. What an honorable thing to do… chivalry is not Dead! Kudos to those Men!!!

  39. the original bellaluna says:

Very classy on the parts of Bale and WB. So nicely done. No pomp and circumstance; just some kind words and actions for the victims and their families.

Question, Kaiser. Do you know if the woman in the grey shirt, in the pic with the hospital staff, is the same doctor Today interviewed, the one who treated like 21+ victims? Because I really hope it’s her. Her interview had me in floods.

  40. Flounder says:

He might be crazy..but now that he’s gone out of his way to visit the victims…he’s my new favorite actor.

  41. Christine says:

How is it that he is even better looking with no special lighting and no special cameras? He is just plain beautiful and visiting the victims is just icing on his hotness cake.

  42. Sarah says:

These photos and the video of him singing the Power Puffs theme song is what makes Christian Bale my favorite actor in the whole world.

The Powerpuffs Themesong? Now I’m getting nostalgic for when I was 30 and the Cartoon Network was good.

  43. garvels says:

Christian didn’t visit because of some lame petition. I believe Bale is one of the few actors in Hollywood who could care less about what people think.

I think Christian’s visit truly lifted the spirits of the victims and their families. I like Bale because he really doesn’t play all of the PR games like the Aniston types in Hollywood. He seems to be really down to earth.

  44. laura says:

there was a petition going around facebook trying to get christian bale to go see the victims… i thought to myself when i saw it that no one should petition that. its not right. its not christians fault that a maniac did what he did, and i truley feel sorry for everyone involved.

  45. Dahlia1947 says:

Yeah I was looking at pics of him at the hospital and I thought: “How sweet of him to do this!”
It was so cool of him to visit with the injured patients and then go to the memorial site!

  46. mek821 says:

I am officially in love with Christian Bale now. I live in Denver and have seen movies at the theater where the massacre took place. The fact that Christian cares enough to make a trip here and spend time with the victims is amazing. I adore him.

  47. I Choose Me says:

And my crush increases exponentially. Love that he’s showing his softer (other) side. That was a pretty decent thing to do.

  48. luls says:

    Sigh… .I love Christian Bale.
    Always have, always will <3

  49. Mrs. Ari Gold says:

The hottest role he ever had was in the movie “Laurel Canyon”. There are some scenes in there that just melt me. It’s such a little gem of a movie – I’ve seen it about 50 times.. And Frances McDormand is the best she’s ever been. http://m.imdb.com/title/tt0298408/

  50. ZenB!tch says:

I’m pretty active on social media and I did not know about the petition. I did know about the post on FB. What I saw was a screenshot of a status on FB asking him to do this. I reposted it and asked my friends what they thought. I am pretty sure it wanted him to show up in costume (can he even walk in that thing off set?) so we all thought it was not a good idea.

Crap! I can’t find it. I did find the one where my friends and I stuck up for him for using Purell after meeting fans. He was still on my douche list then but cleanliness is next to godliness.

  51. Issa says:

You’re right Keiser he doesn’t care about PR. He’s private and what PR he does receive is often negative. So many people in Hollywood are fake, fake, and more fake. Using good PR to build their true insider arsehole image. One of the reasons why Bale comes off the way he does, is because he’s himself. If we truly knew what the stars were behind the scenes, think we would loose respect for most of our celebrity ‘crushes.’ Bale is authentic, doesn’t put on the fake Hollywood mask and isn’t always tactful, its why I do like him as actor.

  52. Tiffany says:

I liked his response to his rant, and I LOVE this gesture for the victims. He also went to the memorial set up for the victims.

This is a very respectful thing for him to do.

  53. mia says:

The petition isn’t relevent. Thiis puts Bale in the Bruce Willis ‘good guy’ category.
Maybe now little Miss Natalie Portman aka smartest woman in L.A. will rethink her snarky remarks! HAH!

  54. chalkdustgirl says:

Loved Christian Bale way back when in “Little Women”, but haven’t thought much of him after he became such a loopy method actor with a rotten temper.

But….this puts him in a whole new light for me, and, he kinda looks a whole lot hotter!!

  55. Hakura says:

I think Christian truly pursued his visit in an extremely classy way. Purely to (privately) do whatever he could to cheer the people who’d experienced such tragedy. Using his celebrity for others, & not at all for himself. (Which is apparent in his ‘sneaking’ in inside an ambulance).

My little brother (20) went to the midnight showing here (in Baltimore) as well… We didn’t hear about what happened until the next day, but it could’ve just as well been *anyone*. Horrifying.

  56. hatsumomo says:

After enduring such a horror, being able to have a small bit of pleasure of meeting Batman must be f’ing awesome. But I have to say, that photo of the boy with Bale is so grainy, you can barely tell who you’re looking at. Jeez, my Evo takes better pics than that! If that was the photo of me with my idol, Id be angry!

    • Hakura says:

It is… It really looks like the sort of picture my cell phone from several years ago (which was outdated, even in 2000) would’ve taken. I hope there are some better shots for the boy/his family to keep.

  57. LittleDeadGirl says:

See, this is why I like Bale and defended him a few weeks ago when people were saying he is a douchebag. I think he’s a very direct guy who can come off as harsh but he is genuine and a great actor. I don’t think he did this as a PR move cause like has been said he doesn’t give a fuck about PR.

Warner Bros’ on the other hand does have great and smart PR. They have handled this perfectly and I’m so happy they didn’t do something stupid to taint this tragedy and make it about them somehow. Classy moves all around.

  58. Kris says:

Awww, I LOVE him. I have always loved this guy, long before he even became Batman. He’s such a great actor and his movies are just so wonderful. And I’ve seen so much footage of him interacting with his fans and he’s a real, genuinely good guy. I live in Chicago and we get alot of actors here, but honestly this guy is nicer to fans and bystanders than any other celebrity I’ve seen.

  59. carrie says:

he met several victims enought stable to see him but also the medical staff, the policemen and the firemen to thank them
    and some hearthcare persons
